I was initially really cool on AoS 3.0 as my army was messed up and did n it transition well. However in recent weeks I have started to warm to it. This is mostly driven by my son and nephew rekindling their interest. We have had a few games at home and at element games (first time been, was great). I am not as positive o 3 as I was on 2 prelockdown, but you know what, having games w my family is a lot of fun and the trajectory is upwards.

Why is he stabbing her in what might be the root thighs? Like she has a very solid looking upper body and even stomach and he decides to stab what might just be a completely non lethal clump of roots? Or is this some soulsucking weapon and I'm an idiot?
That’s what a bloodreavers hit on a 4+ looks like

Daemon prince and crown are some of the first things on my lists nowadays. Controlling the flow of battle is important to us

I have given up on goretide. Hew the foe is nice but I don’t value the other aspects of it. Buffs to reavers and warriors run/charge isn’t that amazing on a smaller field. Likewise the wound roll buff isn’t great for units that struggle to hit anything. Reapers has been more of a goto host now, even if running mortals. The antimagic is too useful. With save stacks and the 2+ magic shrug item my general is hard to kill thus denying a source of VP.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think we have a bit of plan with the ironclad, start collecting and arkanaughts. That gives him enough for some practice games as he plans later steps.
Looking forward to it

I believe (and competitive players please stop me if I’m wrong) that meta KO builds are more about the skyport and certain artefacts rather than what units you take. For a casual setting I’ve found there aren’t really any units that are so bad you should always avoid.
A good start might be to get the ironclad, a start collecting set and a box of arkanauts. That’s 1105 depending on how you build the balloon troops. He’ll need to go with Urbaz or Nar (to make the gunhauler or thunderers battleline) if he wanted to play some test games with it, but it’d be a good starting point.
From there I would expand on what models he like the look of. Getting an endrinmaster with dirigible suit and using that as a general makes having the rest of his battleline easier, but isn’t essential if he goes with a skyport that unlocks battleline choices or just likes arkanauts.
Hope that’s some helpful thoughts for a starting point
Thanks that’s great. Sounds like a good start and advice. Knowing he can’t trap himself with poor units is good. His sylvaneth experience had been difficult. Getting to about 1000 is good as we can do some test games.
The advice on sky ports is helpful. I know my way around a tome but wasn’t sure where to properly start with the KOs when I was reading the book last night (was 11pm so I have an excuse).
I know he is excited to get started, I’m less excited about having my Khorne shot off the table 😀
Thanks a lot

Hello Admirals! I am after advice. My 13 year old nephew is wanting to start a kharadron army. He will want build to 2000 points and is determined to use the big boat.
What would be a decent and economical build that involves the big boat? That way he can plan purchases and birthday/Christmas presents. If it helps, He mainly plays with his dad, me and my son and we have Khorne mortals, seraphon, slaves and sylvaneth. So we’ll need a decent but not meta chasing list for him. His current sylvaneth army folds like a wet paper towel, so something with some staying power.
Finally, I have only looked jn the tome for the first time yesterday. Are there any dos and fonts with regards abilities, traits, builds etc? Thanks so much in advance

-6 is with the alter. And yes you are right for the GHB rules it’s fine.

With the latest FAQ, do you think there is a way to make Vorgaroth & Skalok work? They went up another 150 points which brings them to 1250. In return their damage table looks much better now. Thinking about something like this, could be funny against some armies with a -5 to cast bubble and the canons in combination with the dragon have a pretty decend shooting power.
Allegiance: Khorne
- Slaughterhost: The Skullfiend Tribe
- Grand Strategy: None Chosen
- Triumphs:
Vorgaroth the Scarred & Skalok the Skull Host of Khorne (1250)*
- General
Slaughterpriest (110)*
- Artefact: Crowncleaver
- Prayer: Bronzed Flesh
5 x Flesh Hounds (105)*
5 x Flesh Hounds (105)*
10 x Bloodreavers (80)*
- Meatripper Axes
Skull Cannons (280)*
Hexgorger Skulls (60)
*Battle Regiment
Total: 1990 / 2000
Reinforced Units: 1 / 4
Allies: 0 / 400
Wounds: 80
Drops: 1With the alter you will get to -6 casting. I don’t recall if it’s a legal list though at 2k. No one unit can be more than 50% of points

I play two slaughterpriests cause I usually play 6 heroes and I do not have a huge collection. I favour killing frenzy and bronzed flesh but I think I should give blood sacrifice a try. I do not have any STD models. Skulls I think are fantastic since they really mess up opponents wizards and they are two models that can block the movement.
Sacrifice is handy. Getting some extra tithe could be game changing. Getting that exptra point for the unbind. I would probably take it over killing frenzy.
Bromzed flesh is really valuable with the other save stacks available.
Uou aso have utility for the bloodbind. It’s often overlooked as it doesn’t kill things, but having gotrek, Morathi, archaon or a mega gargant have to run at a eg a spawn which then ties them up for a round and has them out of position, giving you the objective. That’s game winning

Fun list I just threw together and used against my son and nephew playing sylvaneth.
Reapers of vengeance
Grand strategy: pillars of belief (not sure the best choice)
Wrath of Khorne bloodthirster, general, Mage eater, skullshard mantle
Lord of Khorne on juggernaut, gorecleaver
Deamon prince of Khorne, crimson crown
Slaughterpriest, brass skin
blood secrator
Blood stoker
Blood reavers 10 meat ripper axes
Bloodreavers 10 meatripper axes
Bloodwarriors 10 Gorefists
Warthmongers 5
skullreapers 5
skullreapers 5
Hexgorger skulls
Skull alter
The prince shuts down movement, making sure to garrison
The WokBT kills off magic and has same handy hero sniping shooting. W brass skin and all out defence he is hard to take down.
Both can take advantage of RoV ability to pile in twice as needed. Prince has handy fight first. I would build him w sword for MWs
priest is there to make BT hard to kill and do bloodbind.
Bloodstoker and blood secrator are great support heros
Reavers screen or grab objectives
Bloodwarriorrs. Can grab an objective and MW what tries to take them off
wrathmongers give extra attacks and MW bomb on death
skullreapers melt hordes and give MW. Their speed is less of an issue on these smaller boards, especially w the stoker
Its not a top tier list by far, but it should hold its own

Rules question. Bloodletters have this rule:
STANDARD BEARERS: 1 in every 10 models in this unit can either be a Bloodsoaked Banner Bearer or Gore-drenched Icon Bearer.Does this means I can get both banner in a unit of 10 or if I want both banners I need unit of 20.
Yes. If you have 20 then you can have 2 banners of your choice.

Given that clarification in FAQ confirmed that priests can only chant one prayer and "judgements" count as invocations so priest can either chant a prayer or invocation or remove other priests invocation what is the threats though on priests and prayers?
I am leaning toward having at least one priest, cause with out one you can not "deal" with opponents invocations. Heroic willpower can allow regular hero to unbind or dispel but to remove invocation you need a priest. Now depending on your "local meta" you may not have armies that use invocations but if you want to build an "all corners lists" one priest looks like a potentially good investment.
As for our invocations Bleeding Icon I think is not worth it. Looks like the weakest of the three. Skulls look really good against wizards. Not sure how prevalent magic will be in 3rd but icons paired with Altar, Bloodsecrator and potential multiple ways to unbind seems like it can cause a lot of problems to magic heavy lists. Axe I am still thinking about. If the opponent has no wizards and no priests Axe look like a nice MW dealer that can not so easily be dealt with but I am not sure how often this scenario would happen.
In the end to me Skulls look like a best option and something I would consider for more competitive games. What are your thought?
I think there is good utility in priests and warshrine at the moment. There are some powerful abilities in the prayers to make use of
Slaughterpriest has bloodbind. This is excellent, pull a unit off an objective or away from a hero. Especially if you couple of with a sacrificial chaos spawn. Now that huge unit of god character has to go run at a rubbish throw away model and risk being charged by it so it’s tied up in combat. For extra lols this could be a unit of furies that redeploy away.
Question. Can a unit of archers which have been hit by bloodbind and run still unleash hell?
Curse is an excellent prayer to get some valuable MW output our army lacks. The best vehicle is the warshrine as it needs to be up close in combat and so is survivable, plus it synergises well with marauders.
Brass Skin is excellent for save stacking with al out defence, finest hour, garrison to negate rend on a valuable unit. I just had a wrath of Khorne blood thirster tank a lot of damage from rend 2 kurnoth hunters.
Bloodboil is still handy
Sacrifice is still good also. Getting tithe move in hero phase avoids redeploy and unleash hell. Or fighting on the hero phase or just a bonus command point.
Skulls are great also. Armies like lumineth will have issues if the 8 goes off and unit leaders get killed.
I think one priest is a must. I am wondering if 2 has value - maybe a priest and warshrine. I may experiment w 2 and a shrine.
-
Depending on your local players armies, anyone with any sense will try to nuke the prince off w magic. So I would be looking for the artefacts that give ignore effects of spell on a 2+ or a ward save if not possible. Garrisoning him in the alter makes him very hard to kill as it
-
Not as far as I hoped last month. However with school holidays past I may get more evenings free. I would like to
Complete 5 Khorne marked slaves to darkness knights
Build and prime 20 slaves to darkness marauders
Paint the Rohan cavalry from war of the ring board game
in addition I would like my son to prime his army and finish his old school Lord Kroak

Skarr is a decent addition. He makes the wrathmongers into a painful roadblock. Plus his deepstrike is very handy combined with a summon.
Gors are surprisingly tricksy and there are better things to target
Reavers are a cheap way to screen and grab objectives. Again no threat so no one will target then
-
He’s a very good Khorne player and well known for playing thirster lists, so this seems a variation of that. I couldn’t say how it worked, I don’t do thirster lists 😀

Thanks so much. That is a lot to think. I was trying to avoid the whole new edition new army thing, but my other armies have not transitioned well to 3.0. And feel like they currently would struggle to fight their way out of a wet paper bag.
So knowing it’s an alright start and not a huge investment to 1000 is really tempting.
thansk so mich

I was randomly in a craft store when I came across the original lumineth white box when they were first released.
I was wondering if it would be a decent intro the army? And if so what else is worth adding to get to eg 1000 points?
Second, I currently have about 2500 of idoneth. Are there any interesting combos with the two armies?

I am planning on a priest and a shrine. The priest is only really in the list because of bloodbind. It’s so useful to pull a unit off and objective it in range of something. I’ll have a blob of marauders to take advantage of the shrine which will act as a vehicle for curse
Going to try a couple of times with the skulls if I can
Also at least the shrine or the priest will grt sacrifice to maximise bloodtithe. Moving, charging and attacking in hero phase is really useful to avoid redeploy and unleash hell.

Well that is sad, another question kinda spit balling ideas around and noone else in my circle plays slaves.
If I was to take any khorne units, bloodthirster, khorne dawgs, blood warriors etc. Will they receive the aura of khorne buffs from a nearby khorne hero? And in a despoilers list would the bloodthirster gain the D3 healing, due to the monster keyword?
The blades if Khorne allies won’t receive benefit of the slaves buffs. But your Khorne slave units can take advantage of the BoK buffs brought by the allies, some of which are pretty tasty. For example bloodstoker at 85 pts w a 3 to run / charge and reroll wounds buff on a Khorne mortal unit is great value. Bloodsecrator with +1 attack and reroll all magic in 16 (careful with your mages). Wrathmongers get MW on death and +1 attack aura plus pile in after death w Skarr.

While not GW specific. This article talks about the big issues with shipping containers and the impact on board game makers. It will be impacting GWalso. Strap in for some price rises as they claw back costs on containers which cost 3k but now cost 40k
