Just saying, it could be benefitial to use, for being in combat pretty soon.

As that sorcerer I would recommend Sayl the Faithless, since he himself can teleport one Chaos unit across the battlefield.

He can only teleport slaves now 😟

if you want some to get across the board then do consider chaos marauders, they can do some crazy long charges now with the various buffs. Min 11 inch charge with a drummer and blood stoker, and I think can go even further with other buffs.

i would be wary of a sorceror as our innate antimagic will make it harder to get spells off and the Mage will also take up a leader slot.

Not to say don’t do it, just be wary of the impliications

I've been using this as my newbie starter list for a bit, any thoughts on where to go from here? I'm not super competitive but interested to see where the list can improve and what new stuff I should buy. In addition to these I have a Khorgorath, Mighty Lord of Khorne, Gorebeast Chariot, a Bloodstoker, and 6 more Chaos Warriors.

Should I be aiming for a Skull Altar and some Daemons for summoning? Been eyeing the Khorne half of the Wrath and Rapture box too.

If you have not built the lord yet then can I make a case for lance and sword build. Give him hew the foe and gorecleaver on the lance. On the charge he will be devastating as natural 6 to hit on lance is 7 damage plus rend.

I'm running my DP in a mortal goretide list, so I'm not taking any thirsters, I just want my DP to smack the pee out of anything he touches, heroes, monsters, hordes, wizards, parents, etc.  I thought the sword of judgement only goes off on a 6+, but I've heard that on a DP it goes off on a 4+,  does anybody have  proof/evidence that this is true?

Maybe I'll just magnetize my sword and axe so I can switch them out

The sword of judgment is in the way it is written ie 6+ as opposed to an unmodified 6 which is how the 2MW on the Sword go off. It will go off on a 5+ on the charge due to the princes +1 to hit on the charge which also stacks with killing frenzy for the 4+. Conversely hit debuff will make it harder to get off. I combine this with hew the foe in a goretide list. He serves a dual purpose in charge debuff and hero killing. It works well.

If you want a pure beat stick then go for rend and hew the foe. Maybe dimensional blade on the talons with axe. Will give you a lot of high rend attacks.

the other builds are more supportive in my opinion ie torc to make him immune to rend or crown for free charge debuff.

al are good builds but the best for you depends on the rest of your list. I tend to play foot slogging small infantry units so tend to have the tithe for command points or to have him take advantage of the tithe table, so the sword of judgement and hew the foe combination works well for me, but may not in list which finds it harder to get tithe.

Is there a consensus on  what weapon and artefact you should have a DP use? The axe can do a lot of damage, but the sword seems more consistent . I've  heard dimensional blade on any of his weapons is really good, but I think that Ghyrstrike on his axe could make it do some serious damage. Are there any artefacts I should be considering I'm not? I'm trying to get consistent, good damage.

After some mathhammer work, I found that the axe and claws should do more damage than the sword and claws, have you guys noticed the same thing in your experience?  I calculated his whole attack profile with one of his two weapons and claws against a 4+ save,  putting Ghyrstrike and Dimensional  blade on each weapon separately.  It looks like Ghyrstrike on the axe  and dimensional blade on the claws add up to almost the same amount of damage,  with each dealing roughly 7.5 wounds, with the dimensional blade on the claws having a slightly better chance of inflicting 12 wounds (going from 13% to 14% which I guess is almost negligible) . Do you guys have any thoughts on what you use on a Daemon Prince?

I typically build a Khorne prince with blade of judgement and send him hero/monster hunting. That build is best with the sword over axe in order to maximise the number of dice thrown for the MW which will pop on a 4+.

I've been leaning towards 5 man Knight units for ease of maneuverability, extra Blood Tithe, extra Champion, and ease of buffing with the wholly within ranges. I've played plenty of games trying to figure out how to use Skullcrushers to know that units with big footprints are much harder than you think to use, although Skullcrushers do have a much bigger base size...

In regards to the Karkadrak Lord, I just ran the numbers against Mortek Guard comparing him when under the Slaves to Darkness allegiance with Khorne aura, vs being in Goretide as the General. I've linked the combat calculators I used below; I can't find one that allows to re-roll all saves rather than failed saves. This is looking at the Hexed Battleaxe only, with the Dimensional Blade.

These were the buffs I factored in:

Slaves to Darkness: Aura of Khorne, +2 attacks. Calculator: http://40k.ghostlords.com/dice/aos.html#attacks=7&hit=3&rend=3&wound=3&d=2&save=4&wound_mod=1&save_mod=1&wounds=1&hit_reroll=1&save_reroll=fail&shake=6

Khorne: Killing Frenzy, Bloodstoker whip, +2 attacks, Hew the Foe. Calculator: http://40k.ghostlords.com/dice/aos.html#attacks=7&hit=3&rend=3&wound=3&d=3&save=4&hit_mod=1&save_mod=1&wounds=1&wound_reroll=fail&save_reroll=fail&shake=6

When under Khorne, he kills almost twice as many Mortek Guard compared to being in Slaves to Darkness, it's amazing.  That's far more than any Bloodthirster that's not Skarbrand.

That’s interesting on the lord. Are you able to do the slaves with blood stoker allied in?

How viable are Slaves to Darkness units with Khorne? I've always wanted to run fur cloaked classic chaos warriors, chaos knights, just like...classic regular chaos, but khorne.

Would you rather go STD Allegiance, or Khorne? If I go STD can I still use like Slaughterpriest prayers on them? Or does the Bloodsecrator work? How well do they plug and play/mix and match? Trying to figure out how to get the best...classic chaos Khorne...formula with Chaos Warriors, Chaos Knights and Chaos Lords or whatever.

The knights and warriors are viable and will benefit from all buffs if you give them the Khorne mark. The issue they have is points cost and adding to drops (unless you take the Khorne Slaves battalion).

Warriors offer us a great tank unit and MW shrug with the shields, innate reroll saves at 10 coupled with bronze flesh makes a unit which is going to be hard to move. They don’t hit amazingly hard, but having eg your priests behind them makes a great bodyguard.

Knights have been getting mixed reviews. The lance on the charge is fab but you may only get that off once or twice a game unless you can decimate the unit they charge, which probably means a unit of 10, which is a big investment of points. Mixed with killing frenzy and the krakadrak lord would be +2 to hit which is tasty. Ensorcelled weapons is the better option if they get stuck in combat. I am tempted to build a knight and krakadrak lord combo, maybe with dark feast.

With the rise of tzeentch there may be a place for both units in our army due to their MW shrug abilities.

I am going to try both slaves alligience and Khorne alligience. There are similarities eg buffing auras to punch above weight, but also some differences in the way the armies play. Khorne is all msu and tithe use, slaves is around movement denial.

Im currently down to the last bits of what army to choose, its between mortal khorne and ironjawz, i wanted to play a pretty much melee focused army, but both armies fit the build, im currently torn, khorne (has the look i like to paint) ,ironjawz have the simplicity of play, and especially easy to start collecting  from 0.

If you were going to start from 0 models for a mortal khorne army, how would you go?

I was thinking 1 SC box, 1 chaos warrior box, 20-40 rievers sourced from ebay, and then start adding heros, maybe some skullcrushers, maybe a bloodthirster?

thank you all in advance for your help.

Welcome to a really engaging army, with a tonne of options and play styles.

For a Khorne mortal player I would recomend the following:

    Battletome

Alter, it’s free and your priests will need it.

    Judgements of khorne

The start collecting box - goreblade warband is a must as it has two battleline units and some models you can’t get anywhere else. This will form a good core to the army to get you started.

At least one, preferably 2 slaughter priests

Skull reapers and wrathmongers are a great addition - with spare legs you can b hold both from the same box. I suggest 2 boxes

A daemon prince brings a useful skill - charge debuff and can be quite a beatstick

A box of bloodwarriors, this will bring you to 15  - I have never used more than 20

Some reavers won’t hurt but don’t go overboard unless you really like them

Some daemons to summon eg start collecting and a couple of boxes of flesh hounds

Thirster if you wish, but I feel they will be better in a dedicated blood thirster list and not mortal

you can mix in slaves too for other options, marauders are good but best in a big blob which does play against the Khorne ethos of small units to build tithe

Hey guys, I've been playing Khorne since early November and after about a half-dozen matches, I've settled on this list, but I do have some questions.

    1. Should I A. take different artefacts or B. give the artefacts I currently have to different heroes? This list relies on getting my buffing heroes (Bloodsecrator and Dark Feast Slaughterpriest) up the table without getting them shot/casted off the table so I can maximize my aura radius, but I'm wondering if there is a more efficient/effective way to take artefacts to better do this.

    2. Should I cut anything out to add a block of 40 Marauders? I've heard good things about them, but I'm not sure what I would sacrifice to take them. The 6 Skullcrushers seem like a good option, but I've found them to be excellent fast tar pits, especially with Bronzed Flesh.

    3. Should I take any Judgements? In my experience the Wrath Axe is inconsistent at best, and I think the Bleeding Icon isn't really worth it, so the only Judgement I think I could take is Hex Gorger Skulls, although to take them I would probably have to cut out a unit of 'reavers, which I'm not sure is worth it.

    4. Is there any prayers that I should/shouldn't take? I've considered Brazen Fury to help my Bloodreavers not fold in Battleshock, but with the MSU approach I'm not convinced its useful.

    5. Does this list have any major flaws that I'm missing i.e. I'm not taking artefacts I should, I'm not taking a unit/ hero I should etc.? I'm hoping I can play well with this list in small local tournaments, but please tell me if this list is tactically inadequate.

Basically I use the Goretide Command ability to run MSU Bloodreavers all over the table while using the extended range on my Bloodsecrator and the Dark Feast ability to buff my Bloodreavers up to 41 attacks per unit of 10. I've found this establishes good board control and brings speed and damage from where my opponent is least expecting it. If you have any clarifying questions this list or on how I run it on the table feel free to ask. Any advice is appreciated.

The only two things I can consider - and these are purely my preference - is to change a bronze flesh to sacrifice to help with tithe and add in a daemon prince for his run/charge debuff and general killiness. But that would require quite some rejigging.

Otherwise I think you are looking good

  9. The talons of the black raven - Khorne bloodbound

The Lords of the Blackraven family have been sworn protectors of the Lands of Tagge for generations. The last Lord Blackraven reign ended in ruin, with the Lands beset on all sides by orruks, Idoneth raiders, undead. The lord sought fresh counsel and was answered by a red cloaked wiseman - Tzeelian.

Tzeelian counselled an aggressive policy of pushing back and border expansion. At this time, a form of family worship began, the so called cult of the gilded skulls in which the skulls of deceased family members with covered in gold or brass and were thought to provide protection from the enemies of Tagge. This cult spread into the armed forces, with the hosts of Lord Blackraven colouring their armour red.

The red forces of the Blackraven became a ferocious force, decimating orruk clans and Idoneth raiders, but the threats to peace never left. The cult of the golden skull spread and the lands of Tagge turned further to the industry of making war. The Blackraven s forces continued to conquer in their lords bloody  name.

The lords daughter was captured and killed by orruk raiders, causing Lord Blackraven to seek Tzeelians counsel for revenge. Tzeelian who guided by visions of blood and skulls causes The Lord Blackraven to be reborn a daemon prince of Khorne bearing a powerful crown of command. The conquest redoubled in ferocity until in one battle an orruk warlord fought past his guard and banaished the prince, shattered his crown.

The forces of Lord Blackraven continue to fight. Many generals and lords command aspects but not control the full might. Each burning another wound on the world. However whispers abound that the prince is back, able to turn the Lands to blood and bearing a powerful sword.

My forces of Khorne mortals are the remains of the forces duped by Tzeelian and represent those who kept the faith in Khorne. They have recently been rewarded by the return of Blackraven.

Tzeelian has not been seen for some time.,,

Idoneth deepkin of Briomdar, raiding force of King Alrah, he who was born of agony and wielded of The jadewound thorn.

The Idoneth of Briomdar have raided this part of Tagge for generations. King Alrah leads their current expedition to claim souls to keep his people alive. They have been raiding up the coast for some time before becoming embroiled in the wars around Tagge. The harvest of souls is great and they will return with a great bounty.

My Idoneth force, a mix of namarti and eels. Fun to play but lacking some depth vs Khorne.

The Despoilers of Ophiocordyceps- Slaves to Nurgle

The people in this part of Tagge never workshiped the cult of the gilded skull. Their god of fecundity has always helped them, strong crops, protection and a happy life. That changed when the Idoneth raiders came, their cruel spears and arrows claiming many an innocent.

The wise leaders sought counsel and found an old rotten tome, on Old Testament of their god. In it they found and spoke the words and behold, the beautiful Prince Ophiocordyceps appeared. Under his leadership they beat back the Idoneth and now spread the joy of Ophiocordyceps to the morta realms. Each tribe they meet while at first resistant has gladly joined them to spread the joy and wisdom of Ophiocordyceps.

my new Slaves to Nurgle are based on the zombie ant fungus. In their folly They have summoned a prince of nurgle who has infected them with a mind altering fungus. Now they mistakenly spread this around the realms bringing more to their fold. As a plagetouched warband their ability to cause MW I’m wound rolls is quite thematic and represents the spores exploding from their bodies

  10. Hmm for Nurgle

    The bountiful nexus

In the hero phase, When a unit is with in 12(?) inches it takes d3 MW. In addition each additional unit within 8 inches of this unit takes d3MW as the blessings spread. Nurgle units heal d3MW instead. (May need to think of it can stack, but the idea is a spreading contagion as the first unit infects those nearby)

    The ophiocordycepian joy

in the hero phase, a unit within 6 inches is compelled to spread the joy. Roll a dice, on a 1 or 6 it stays still, 2 or 3 it moves towards the nearest friendly unit, on a 4 or 5 it moves towards the nearest enemy unit. The unit must move its full move if possible and remain in coherency. Once it has moved it takes d3MW and each unit within 4 inches takes 1 MW.

(Ophiocordyceps is a real fungus that infects ants, takes over their brain and makes them move so it can infect  other ants, look it up and fear)

    The slippery ooze that moves

In your movement phase any Nurgle unit starting the phase wholly within 8 inches gains +1 to move and +1 to run, all other units reduce move and run by 1. In the charge phase, any Nurgle unit starting its charge wholly within 8 inches gets +1 to charge, all other units reduce their charge by 1. Each round the ooze remains on the board increases the range of effect by 4 inches.

  11. I would go MSU with as I feel that 12 units of 10 reavers is going to be a real pain to deal with. They would be everywhere getting in the way and being overkilled. Plus it’s 12 tithe right there at a minimum (more with sacrifice) bringing on more.

  12. Had a battle last night vs cities of Sigmar - living city. Played focal points and won on points.

This was my second game with the new daemon prince warscroll and I have to say I am impressed. His ability to debuff run and charge is fairly brutal, it really helps counter initiative loss as you can stop units engaging and then counter charge. I had him equipped with thronebreakers so he was very hard to shift, even with shooting thanks to lookout sir. If I had a second, I would take 2!

Countercharging and goretribe work very well with him, you can hold units in place before hitting them with a unit you want. I managed to get the manticore lord charge off twice, in both times he had killing frenzy. He did a crazy amount of damage thanks to the daemon sword and lance w gorecleaver combination.

  13. I have had quite a busy hobby start to the year. I have done the following

Introduced my club to Zombicide Invader, and had many fun games with them as well as with my son and his mate

    Painted scenery for my club

Started a slow grow Slaves to Nurgle army

Played several games of slow grow and have a 2k game tonight where my new manticore lord gets an outing.

  14. It’s a functional army so would give it a go. Over time I would consider dropping the letters as 10 is not good for them and replacing with eg wrathmongers and or skull reapers.

i would split the bloodwarriors and reavers into 5s and 10s, respectively.

karanak does not take a leader,  he is a unique hero which makes him really interesting to take as leader slots are at a premium plus he brings some useful abilities.

  15. Some great minis so far! Very fun impressive all round.

from my side, this Khorne Lord is done. I will be slightly sad to have finished him as he turned in to quite a fun project. On the other hand, a new sow grow project has started in the form of Slaves to nurgle. Just working on the skin for this prince. I think I may add some agrax and blood for the blood god to the recesses, as though the skin has broken
