  1. I think we should not all let our enjoyment of Tomb Kings, an old army that is no longer produced, get in the way of the potential enjoyment of another awesome and new army that I am sure took bits from TK as well as other areas of the Warhammer universes.  While yes, there are familiarities, and also complete differences, I think we should not start out comparing it to something that is as relevant as Brettonians in matched play and instead, wait for the rest of the models, wait for the rules and judge it on its own merit.

I still have to tidy up the base and mount something on the bannerpole, as well as maybe do a design on the banner, but the Doomwheel is basically done!

Anyone hoping the Warpgnaw Verminlord will get fixed? It's really expensive and somehow has less wounds than all the other verminlords. I guess its inbuilt Warpgrinder is neat and if it somehow isn't damaged then the glaive does flat 5 damage (but starts dropping after the 1st wound). Not sure if thats worth the 320pt cost.

At the very least it should have terrifying, cast 2 spells, and 2 more wounds,

Unless theres some weird in lore reason that being a warpgnaw makes them less resilient.

Best off taking the Warpseer instead of warpgnaw. Better as a general and cheaper as well. Still Masterclan.

Short version: yes. It's causing a lot of confusion that people have been referring to 'Skryre allegiance' when that doesn't actually exist - or at least, it doesn't work in the same sense that any other 'allegiance' in AoS works.

There's only one Skaven allegiance - Skaventide. By default, Skaventide battleline options are Clan Rats and Stormvermin.

Clan abilities - sparks, traits and artifacts for Skryre, in this case - are accessed by having Skryre heroes in a Skaventide army. NOT by having an all-Skryre army.

If you have an all-Skryre army, you gain access to Stormfiends and Acolytes as battleline. You can also do this if your general is Masterclan, as long as every other unit in the army in Skryre.

So the only choice to make is 'which set of battleline options do I want', because you can't mix and match them. You can make a 'Skryre' army by combining Skryre heroes with either clanrats/Stormvermin or Stormfiends/Acolytes. The strength of the former is that you've got a lot of versatility. The strength of the latter is that you can focus on the Skryre units (many of which benefit from synergies) and build towards the Skryre batallion (which doesn't include any non-Skryre units.)

    Hope that helps!

I wont lie, that does help but I am still confused. I t could be either the coffee isn't kicking in yet or the new way Skaven works is too convoluted for someone as basic as myself. lol

  5. So I want a Clan Skryer army but I now have like, maybe, 80 Clanrats that I am not sure I can even use any more? What are our actual battleline options now? I'm still tryign to wrap my head around how this new book works with Masterclan and clan skryer or whatever that synergy is. Mostly I am just wondering what I can do as a solution for battleline other than having to field 3 units of Stormfiends... Are the acolytes even worth it? Can I still use my clanrats somehow and maintain Skryer? Perhaps I am better off as a Skaventide allegiance?

  6. I just really want to know how a Skryer heavy mixed skaven list will turn out now. I have the 2 FW heroes as well as thanquol/boneripper, a deceiver, the new carrion kit, a couple of warpfire cannons and plagueclaws, screaming bell and abunch of the little heroes etc.

@Major Honestly, as long as your Warlord is rocking Crown of Conquest you should be fine to throw general on whoever. That said, I would still make the Warlord general to get Great Destroyer to hopefully get a little more damage out of your Clanrats.

The core of any Skaven list (especially mixed) is going to be Clanrats. After that, it's best to have some Hammers for your Anvils, which Stormfiends and Stormvermin do pretty well. After that, I like to take a minimum of 2 Warp-lightning cannons since 1 seldom feels like enough to get some MW output on key characters since WLC's don't care about Look out, sir. With your list proposal, you're mostly just betting on the Verminlords + Thanquol to be your hammers and they can achieve that if all goes well.

I would advise to stay away from the Catapults as mortars are honestly better in the end. I've never had any luck with ratling guns, but some people swear by them...I would rather have Warpfire for the MW's.

Thats great advice! I wish I had two Warplightning Cannons alas I have but 1. I do agree that 2 feel better to me. So Stormfiends? How could I smash a unit of 3 of those bad boys in here? I also hear bad things about the warlord on broodhorror but have never seen it on the table. I would just hate to never use all these big hero models I have.

I have 2 rattling guns, 2 mortars, two grinders, 2 flame throwers so could mix it up.

You'll find the mortars to be pretty hit or miss...mostly miss. It might be better to take 20 more Clanrats to bump that small unit to 40 and have an extra CP.

Granted, if that's all you have then that's still good. I would proxy the mortars as Warpfire Throwers if your opponent is ok with that. That way you can run them behind the Clanrat blobs for easy MW's.

I do have the Warpfire Throwers so switching the 2 mortars out for 2 of them takes me to exactly 2000 points. Honestly, the 20 clanrats are there just to give the Warlock Engineer the Look Out Sir benefit.

I am not sure who to put as General but I had the idea that the Verminlord Deceiver would be used to pop around the tabled with either Thanquol and Boneripper or the Warpgnaw Verminlord and double team stuff in the backline while the Warlord on Broodhorror and whichever one isn't with the Deceiver are used to push up the front and be a constant threat to the enemies frontline. I do have a mixture of other stuff but I just don't know how to put an effective mixed skaven list together.

    I also have:

    3 Plagueclaw Catapults
    1 Warp lightning Cannon
    Rattling guns
    some storm vermin
    Screaming bell
    Plague Furnace

  9. so what does the competitive mixed skaven list look like these days? I was messing around and made this but not sure how effective it would be. I have all the models for it is all.

Skaven Warlord on Brood Horror (220)
    Warlock Engineer (100)
    Verminlord Deceiver (300)
    Warpgnaw Verminlord (320)
    Thanquol and Boneripper (400)

    40 x Clanrats (200)
    40 x Clanrats (200)
    20 x Clanrats (120)
1 x Poisoned Wind Mortar Weapon Team (60)
1 x Poisoned Wind Mortar Weapon Team (60)

    TOTAL: 1980/2000
