Leaner orcs? So just regular non-black orcs ala Fantasy? Or, maybe, going by this Mongolian talk about their look and the Hobbit... a re-visit to how Orcs used to look like back in the earlier editions of Fantasy?

If this comes to pass, It would be wonderful! - I have around 80 or so Orcs from this era just waiting to be re-based on to rounds.

Thank you for this very good advise. Even if ethereal+speed+shield look to be like every eggs 🥚 in the same cow 😉 I want to play Avalenor now

Can you make this nation exciting to me? Because as this it looks to be the only nation that I don’t want to try. +2bravery is quite useless with Cathallar, Calligrave and native bravery, no?

Well, I have to admit that what drew me to Illiatha initially was the (albeit small) lore.  It felt like the Nation that was closest to the ideal of balance and harmony following the fall - the reference to Mothers of the Spirit aligning with my love of Wanderers, of which I have a full army and no real place to put them.  I've tried, but Wanderers from a city doesn't work for me.

I do think, though, that from a playing perspective, they could likely be stronger in 3rd edition, if some of the rumours are true.  If Inspiring Prescence disappears and/or 40k battleshock comes in, then that +2 bravery suddenly looks much more useful and units less needful of a hero to chaperone them.  Likewise, there is talk of units, with some exceptions, being capped in size so the opportunity to affect 2 units with one Command Ability would be something to plan a strategy around, perhaps 2 units of Sentinels next to a Shrine so no CP spent at all.  The CA they gain is just right for Sentinels and there is a distinct possibility that the generic rerolling 1s to hit CA may disappear too.

Also, as I said, I like the flexibility it allows when creating your general.  Include a Battalion and you could have any variant of General you like: an 8 wound Stonemage with a 4 up against spells;  a Cathallar (or Loreseeker?) with 2 spells from the lore and 2 casts, or 2 casts with a reroll; A 2 cast Windmage with a 5+ DPR.  Even without a Battalion, the Artifact you have to take isn't bad - an 8 wound Stonemage becoming a 16 wound Stonemage on a 4+ may be enough to make them a less optimal target.

Under the current edition, I agree they are not as strong as Syar or Zaitrec, but that could all be about to change and anyway, their Lore drew me to them and helped to fill my Wanderers' void.  I'm sure I will try out others from time to time, once playing is possible again, but Illiatha is where my heart is.

I thought we blew up the "The Great Oubliette" during the dread solstice  campaign?

    End

    The Great Jailbreak

As battle rages through the Prime Innerlands, Nagash casts ever more enemies into the Great Oubliette. Warlords and warriors alike tumble helplessly down hissing wells of grey sand, before plunging into the deeper darkness below. They stagger to their feet amidst endless stone corridors and whispering walls of shadow.

In his arrogance, distracted and set off balance by the sheer amount of foes hurling themselves at him from every side, Nagash has erred. More and more armed warriors mass in the corridors and halls of the oubliette until at last its guardians cannot hold them back. War rages through halls that have known naught but silence for thousands of years. Weapons are unleashed whose power even the arcane wardings of the oubliette cannot withstand.

Hundreds of cells are smashed asunder and the souls within released to recorporeate. Occupants trapped since before the Age of Myth emerge, blinking in the light. Ancient magisters and mages, disgraced vampiric aristocrats, snarling greenskin warlords, ice-hearted queens and Sigmar-touched heroes, blind loremasters, duardin kings and arrogant Skaven clan-lords; all of these and countless others burst from captivity and seek to make good their escape.

Anarchy reigns as battles are interrupted by the resurrection of beloved heroes, the return of long-lost loved ones and the sudden recorporeation of nemeses long thought slain. Some souls are trammelled once again, of course, but many more escape.

So are the ranks of the Anvils of the Heldenhammer hugely reinforced, Sigmar’s lightning spearing down again and again to snatch up heroes loosed from millennia of hardship. So too do many races see the return of heroes enshrined since time immemorial in folklore and legend. None can say what fate the Mortal Realms will face in the dark days to come, and all attempts to unseat Nagash have failed, but at least the forces of Order, Destruction and Chaos alike will face the looming darkness with their greatest heroes restored to them.

You were an instrumental part of this great victory, warlord, and you stand taller in that knowledge. Let the shadows gather – you are ready.

I always considered it a mass prison breakout, rather than complete destruction of the oubliette.  It does say "Some souls were trammelled once again", so some of the gaolers must have been still around to recapture them and put them back in their cells.

  4. I'm wondering whether the maximum of +/- 1 is an overall maximum, but can be affected still.  For example an enemy unit has +1 to hit; it may be possible to put -2 to hit on that unit, bringing it back to an overall -1 to hit.  If that is the case, then there will still be play in having multiple ways to modifying a roll.

I also have a feeling that bravery and battleshock are going to be overhauled in 3rd ed, possibly like 40k, so I'm happy sticking with Illiatha with their +2 bravery.  Given that this tome was written with 3rd in mind, I'm hoping that bravery will not be affected by modifier restrictions.  It's also the only Nation that allows you to choose your own Command Trait and I like that flexibility.  The artifact would also be nice on a Loreseeker, if the FAQ goes in our favour.

I'm personally quite looking forward to the new edition.  It'll be here before I've painted 2000 points of Lumineth that's for sure - I'm only just reaching 1000 now.

The brightside is their souls were taken by Nighthaunt instead of something like daemons tearing them apart. So that leaves an open plot-hook for any remaining Brotherhood Stormcasts or other Stormhosts to crusade to Shyish and reclaim the souls for reforging(if not something more shadowy like bargaining with Soulblight for them).

The chapter in the book that describes the fate of the Sigmarite Brotherhood is called "Ruination" - just saying....

The browser is the software you use to go online - e.g. Internet Explorer (Microsoft Edge), Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc. Depending on which you use, it's different how to clear the cache (your pc/device saves parts of websites you often visit, sometimes even part of their code - which could in theory mean that it stored part of the faulty code before the update was complete, hence it might help to refresh said cache). Look at the icon you click to go online - or do you only use your smartphone?

Thanks, that makes it clearer - I use Google Chrome.  I've only had a smartphone for a couple of months (after years of resistance), though gradually getting used to it.  I'll have a look into how to refresh.  The main thing is I still have access to this site, so any inconveniences are minor issues.  Thanks for the breakdown.  Every time I think I'm getting the hang of it, it all changes again, but that's modern life for you. :) (I really must learn how to do more emojis)

  7. I  have a query about the ballistas.  Do the Blinding bolts also do damage in the same way as Starshard bolts or do they only give -1 to hit.  You still have to hit and there is only one attack profile, but they are called different names.  I like to err on the side of caution, so don't want to gain something I'm not supposed to.

    Fit'like? Still having issues?

Your settings have probably reset to the default. To change your preference (if you haven't done so already):

    1) You'll see your name in the top right corner of the TGA banner, top of the screen. Click on your name and this will give you a drop down menu. Select Account Settings

    2) On this page, you'll see the Overview Menu on the left hand side of the screen. Select Content View Behaviour from the menu

    3) This should give you 3 options

    - Take me to the comments I haven't read

    - Take me to the beginning

    - Take me to the latest comment

Select your preference then Save. Hopefully this should be you sorted. Sounds like the first option was what used to happen before the update?

Thank you for the your breakdown, It has been very clear and helpful.  I saved it to "comments I haven't read", but it kept taking me to page 1 anyway.  So I changed to "take me to last comment" and that works.  I have a tick next to "mark site read" and I'm wondering whether that is the problem, but I have no idea how to undo it if it is.  If this is the issue, any help in undoing that would be greatly appreciated!  Otherwise, I can live with what I have :) . Thanks again.

Site works fine for me - maybe you need to refresh the page manually and/or clear the cache as you got some temp files in your browser? Which browser do you use?

I have no idea what a cache is or where to find it, I'm afraid, and I have no idea what browser I have - yes I am that ignorant :). When my child returns from uni, I'll ask them for another crash course.  I have managed to get it to take me to the last post each time, so that's a bit of improvement.

  10. Hi.  Since the site update, I am being taken to page one on every thread I go to, no matter how many times I go to any particular one.  Before, it would take me to the last entry I had read.  Can anyone give me (simple) instructions on how to fix this.  I'm sure it's something I have done as the change took me by surprise and I probably clicked something I shouldn't have done.

    Thanks.

  11. Brings back wonderful memories of when Grots were among the best with bows.  That was Gitmob, of course with their +2 to hit with 30 or more and a shaman casting thier spell of "Sneaky Stabbin" giving +1 to wound and +1 rend.  In the most heady days, you could cast the spell more than once!

1: Alarielle warns Teclis that "there is a traitor within your ranks". Is this referring to Morathi's betrayal in the first book, or is someone else going to be a betrayer?

If it was Morathi (or Malerion), Allarielle would have said traitor in our ranks, since She is also part of the Pantheon.  I would say, therefore the traitor is either a Lumineth Realm-Lord or an Aelemental. So far I haven't come across any indications as to who it is in BR: Teclis, but currently reading "The End of Enlightenment" and there may be something in there.

  13. Although I like the Bladelord models, I have 20 Spire of Dawn Swordmasters still on sprue who have been waiting patiently for many years and I am not a millionaire.  So, they will be my new Bladelords.  I am assuming they are on 32mm bases, but could someone confirm this before I actually put them together.

    Thanks.

(Now waiting for a Vanari Regent on Gryphon to be released :) )

So for all three of these, while I can see why they may want to prevent them from interacting with the other subrealms from a rules perspective, I think it would have just made more sense to say they have no subfaction, rather than give them a keyword that actually is at odds with the fluff they've written about the characters.

I agree.  In fact, I find it irksome.  It's just sloppy.  I've started to just think in terms that they're not from whichever Nation I'm using (1st choice Illiatha) rather than that they're from somewhere in particular.

@Aelfric That does help, thanks for the ideas!  Would a metalic color by itself be enough to unify do you think, allowing me to change armor styles?

I reckon that should work.  Gold and siver are the standard go-to, so maybe a brass, bronze or copper would stand out in an overall theme.  It wouldn't have to be much, just enough to show through when the units are all together.

This is a really interesting concept you have. Would love to see the results, if that's ok.

So I have a hobby question for everyone.  Back in the day I painted my High Elf army to match the various different provinces of Ulthuan, each unit tying in to which province they were most iconic in.  I tied the entire scheme in with copious amounts of white paint and matching bases.

Now that we have more countries to choose from, I want to replicate this with the Lumineth.  Outside of the models tied to Ymetrica specifically, which unit would you put where, what do you think would be a good unifying color, and would matching bases still work, considering how different each country is geographically?

This is a bit of a tricky one.  As you say, Ymetrica for Alarith and Helon is the obvious one for Hurakan units.  After that it's not so straightforward since the Vanari are the standard troops for all the Nations.

You could have the Scinari from Zaitrec, as that is the wizardy one, and any Bladelords as bodyguards.

Perhaps Vanari Wardens and foot Heroes from Syar, since that seems to be the more melee killy one judging from it's abilities.

Sentinels and Ballistae (and foot Heroes) from Illiatha, as the abilities seem to encourage units to be close to each other and both can do that relatively easily.

Dawnriders and Lord Regents from  Alumnia as that makes use of movement abilities and Cavalry are all about movement.

Unifying them all with matching bases is a good idea.  Each Nation is large enough that there will be commonalities among all of them.

As for a unifying colour, I'm not sure.  White is already taken, perhaps black?  Or use the two main colours for each Nation on cloth, but have the same armour scheme throughout.

Anyway, hope that helps in some way.

Yeah,... no I understood the 1/4.  As much as I would like to agree with you I've been around long enough to be pessimistic about GW missing out on opportunities that are common sense.

I also think Lore-wise GW has moved away from old Wanderers being part of the Sylvaneth glades over them being forgiven by Alarielle and allowed to return to the living city.  However,..where are the kurnothi coming from then?  Kurnotheal (or whatever ORion's new name is) makin' babies with Alrielle?

I like to think that not all the Wanderers retreated to Azyr during the Age of Chaos and that some tribes (perhaps those dedicated to Kurnoth) remained to fight with Allarielle.  The Kurnothi could be their descendants, kin to modern day Wanderers but distinct from them.  There is no canon for this that I know of, but it would make a plausible explanation.  I live in hope (as does my Wanderers army :) )

  18. 5 minutes ago, Popisdead said:

Kurnothi are Sylvaneth.  Wanderers can already ally into Sylvaneth I believe?

They can, but they are only allies.  I mean in the same way that 1 in 4 units in a Living City army can be Sylvaneth; gaining the CoS and Living City keywords and so gaining the abilities associated with the army.  They wouldn't just be allies, but an intrinsic part of the faction.

What is the wording in the BR: Teclis? Or has it not got that updated in there?

I could see them doing an FaQ, just for peeps who don’t have the tome. Or, knowing GW, they’ll leave it so peeps need to get the new tome anyway.

I’m not really sure what else could be missing though, looking through. The Artefacts/Command Traits maybe? In the original tome it was either for the Cathellar or the Stonemage specifically. They’ve been redone now to be given to Scinari and Alarith heroes in general, (plus the 2 new selections for Vanari and Hurakan heroes).

The artifacts and command traits have been updated.  The thing is,if something is missing from BR: Teclis how am I supposed to know it's missing?  So, I am reliant on those who have both to see any discrepancies.  Also, if an opponent wants to see a rule, what do you say - "well, it's not in either of these books, but I am reliably informed that the rule exists"?

It really means I will have to buy the new battletome anyway, if only for peace of mind.

  20. 5 hours ago, Tiberius501 said:

I can confirm. Spells from the Lore of Hysh can be taken by Teclis, Scinari and Vanari wizards. As of the new tome.

So, basically, what your saying is that having the first battletome and BR: Teclis doesn't give you all the rules to play LRL. I do not have the new battletome and now I'm wondering if there's anything else I'm missing.
