  1. As @Sleboda said, this would be an incredible announcement if it was on a different scale. But on 28mm it will heavily compete with AoS on the detriment of both systems.

And the system will not be the only one get canniballised. The lore, the stories and the novels of AoS will suffer as well. I am all for new Old World content, but the Mortal Realms need some attention on that front. They are not yet fleshed out properly and there is not much going there lorewise. Apart from Gardus and Hamilcar, how many AoS original characters can you name? There are Gotrek' sidekicks i guess...

Well, i am excited to see how this goes, but i really hope AoS doesn't end up as just an interval or a vehicle to sell pretty models, and the campaign books and the lore progression is going elsewhere.

There is a lot to unpack in this announcement. As someone that has continued to enjoy WFB & loved the first three years of AoS (this year has been ok, but I'm not impressed with many of the releases), I'm not actually as excited over the announcement as someone who loves WFB should be (Though I'm not going to shout and rant and rage on facebook either!) but it was better than I'd actually expected it be and the announcement & tease today was far better done than yesterdays.

    The good-

    • The old world is back!
    • We might finally see the battle for blackfire pass get its release! (That book looked awesome before they canned it!)
    • I'm still happily painting old world armies which now might see new models (and I have just enough to paint up at least 3 more models in this unit before the release! 🤣 )
    • More models for all the games!
    • Hoping to see reprints/remakes of classic books/campaigns, with modern quality books & terrain!
    • New fiction set in the old world! I'd love more WFB horror to come out! (Hell, I'd even try my hand at writing some!)
    • Hopefully a return of old (or at least new versions of) kits they got rid off, which have no good or easy alternatives (High elves, Tomb kings)
    • Mordheim might come back!

    The bad-

    • We just don't need it. The old world lives on in plenty of other games and model ranges. WFB rules are cheap 2nd hand (or even cheaper than that!) and there was never anything stopping anyone from continue playing it.
    • I'd hate to see them sweep away all the fan mad continuations & armies books put out since 2015.
    • It seems a little obnoxious to announce this not long after putting out CoS, as it was a bit of a refugee camp for peoples old world collections!
    • Announcing it three years in advance seems way off. Only reason they might be doing that is that they have (finally) noticed that others have filled the void WFB left and they want to try and stop some of that money going into those other games, possible before those games gain even more popularity (and it will be harder to get people to come back)
    • It's going to break up communities even more than they already are. Already arguments are breaking out between people that hate/love one game or the other.
    • Once again GW is catering to the loudest (and often most obnoxious) parts of the fan base (Or at least they appear to be, which is enough to give validation to these people. I still think they don't really care what people ask for but are happy to let them think that when they release something as it looks good on them)
    • Backwards character placement. There will be a whole host of characters (& places) added to the old world from AoS lore. I wasn't keen on them adding so many characters from the old world into AoS, but people do seem to enjoy it & for the most part, those that did return made sense (as much as sense can be made in these universes!).  But I can see it not working as well in reverse.
    • It will be just like the good old days- Only far more expensive!
    • Less resources pumped into AoS
    • Less money going into AoS over the next three years (Why would I buy the fancy new AoS army next year now, knowing I might not want to use it in WFB two years down the line) If AoS is the "most successful fantasy game ever", then why are they not concentrating on that. I've been saying for the past year it sounds like no one in GW really cares for AoS and they were just making the most of what they had been left with.
    • GW tried this before- trying to support too many games at the same time. It didn't end well and has taken them to know to bounce back from the culling of their lines.

The biggest thing I take away from this announcement is that GW do everything they do for money, but don't seem to care about the ramifications on the community. As hobbyists/a community are first loyalty should always be with each other- we are after all the ones we game with, talk too, hang out and get to know. But I know full well that all hell is going to break loose over the coming weeks/months/ years. Anyone with strong opinions has it it in for the other game and it's going to make the both games unpleasant to talk about online. I think this might be the time I final ditch both forums & social media for good and continue to enjoy the hobby in my home. I already grumble quite a bit about releases and I could see myself easily getting caught up in rows over painting/bases/games and taking away time from my actual hobby.

    This! 100% this!

I am in a similar situation. I really, really love the Old World. I 've never played WFB but i always had a soft spot for the lore, the novels and the dark fantasy feel of the warhammer world. How could i not? I grew up with Hero Quest after all!

I am currently running a campaign of WFRP 4th edition and me, and my players who are mostly new to warhammer, are loving it.

But this announcement, it is one of the few that i feel, excludes me as a consumer. My main games are AoS and 40k, but i also collect Underworlds, play warcry and i also started a small ork squadron for aeronautica. A lot of stuff and no time to properly play and enjoy everything unfortunately. And well, i can only speak from my area but there are many fellow gamers in the same situation, where for each new game GW puts out, there is one that gets dropped in order for the new one to get played.

I know that most would say that AoS is well established and is not in danger etc and i really hope you are correct but allow me to think otherwise. Here, in Greece where i am located, the vast majority of AoS players are WFB veterans who are, from the comments i saw today, already preparing to jump ship.

I am not going to reiterate RexHavoc's excellent analysis for the possible negatives of this development. Allow me to mention something that i noticed in last weeks Black Library Event. How many new AoS titles got announced? I think only two, one anthology with a story by Bill King(Yeah!) and a Lady Olynder novel. Nothing else... And the great Josh Reynolds has said in this forum that he hasn't written something for Age of Sigmar for a while. For someone who is invested in the lore of the realms, this was a huge dissapointment.

Sometimes i think that AoS is a playground for the model designers, some where they can unleash their creativity unbound by the limits of the Old World. But the writers, the novelists, the loremasters, the creators of great maps, unforgetable characters and gripping storylines, were and still are in the Empire and in the Chaos Wastes and in Khemri and all the other places we know so much better that everything in AoS until now, even though so much time of development has passed.

But, hey everybody wins i guess.

How so? The vast majority of the games tactics remain the same. In fact tactically it has a marginal impact because beyond holding still and keeping back you don't do anything different with or without the double turn. Screening your units with chaff; protecting leaders etc... are all things you should be doing anyway regardless of double turn or not.

The issue is that the double turn gives one player an advantage in being able to put a plan into action without the opponent being able to stop them - for a whole turn. For a shooty army its a godsend as they can now do exactly what they want for a whole second turn - sit back and fire and take the opponents models off the table

The tactics remain the same and honestly I don't see even GW advertising the double turn in any big way to make it "the" AoS feature. I'd rather say things like Endless Spells are far more uniquely identifying

If there was no double turn, the purpose would be to deal the first crippling blow to the enemy, where in a true IGOUGO system the opponent would be very hard pressed to strike back. The alpha strike armies would reign supreme without fearing a possible retaliation for two turns, as we have now with the priority roll.

In my opinion, AoS would become more of a list building game, closer to 40k, than the one we have now with most updated factions be equal in the hands of experienced players.

Having to account for the possibility of being hit twice demands different tactics than if you always know you will be in the head of a turn. Personally, if i am going second in the first round i rarely take the double turn even if i won the priority roll for the second. If i am not well positioned for example, taking it would mean i am offering the possibility to the opponent to punish me in a later, more crucial stage of the battle.

Of course, the system is not perfect and i want to add my voice to all those who wish an alternate activation system for warhammer. But in comparison to a strict IGOUGO, the one we have now is a million times better, at least for me.

  4. I agree, i think it is a great idea for him to have all three duardin keywords and give different buffs to each army. After all, Gotrek is a dawi first and foremost.

    Realmslayer spoilers follow

I wonder if the design of the miniature is before he hammered the master rune into his flesh. He doesn't have the golden streaks in his beard and hair or the fyreslayer rune. Personally, i like both designs but we'll see i guess.

  5. Yeah, nothing for the main games but it was to be expected. UK Expo is for board games mostly so these announcements make sense i think.

But, we still know nothing about WarCry's gameplay and if the release is in July, they have to start giving some more information about the game.

Curious why anyone who isn’t already in the undead faction would take ghouls. Or what the justification for them to be mercenaries are in the first place

As weird as it sounds, it is not impossible. In the last realmgate wars novel, Lord of Undeath if i remember correctly, a stormcast anvils chamber was hosted by a flesh eater court. The abhorrent ruler saw the stormcast as foreign dignitaries and treated them well. Of course that was back when Nagash was viewed as a potential ally but still.

  7. I find it interesting that so many voted against the double turn. I think it is a key aspect of the game and a possible removal to the old igougo will be a step backwards imo.

I voted for more death warbands in WU like Fec and Soulblight and more campaign books in the vein of the Realmgate Wars. Those books were great!

  8. I believe that we will be able to choose weapons for the warcry warbands.

    Look at this. AdepticonReveals-Mar27-IronGolem9bgvhfs.

The left iron golem warrior holds a hammer in his right hand, but if you go to the newest trailer at the 15 seconds mark, he holds a chain. The pose is the same but it's still something i guess.

    Very exciting preview overall!

  9. Woke up earlier to see the preview before i go to work. I was not dissapointed.

Yes, we didn't get a lot of actual reveals like new models(except the new WU warband which is amazingly cool) or a new set, but that was to be expected as the event was mostly about the new  Black Legion. I think that everyone who said we should temper our expectations for this event, were right.

But even so, cool and exciting stuff were teased and i really can't wait to see more of Warcry and the new stormcast thingy - continuation of Soul Wars.

About Warcry, it is obviously the Call of Archaon in game format. The strongest chaos champions travel to Varanspire, Archaon's fortress in the Allpoints to battle and prove who is the strongest and join the Lord of Apocslypse. I cant wait to find more and i hope it is not so Chaos centric as iy sounds. It will have some Darkoath barbarians in it so yeah.

About the Forbidden Power(the stormcast lock thing), in FB the warcom team replied to people who were angry at more SCE that they didn't announce a new chamber but something else. We will see i guess.

  10. One of my hopes for the new year is very close to be realised. An expansion to Flesh Eaters is almost upon us! I would be very happy with just a plastic vargulf and an update battletome, but this promises so much more!

New kits and endless spells are a given i think, but wouldnt a FEC Lair- style terrain be also a good idea? Subterrenean caves and charnel houses, or even ruined castles. Think of the possibilities.

Anyone here played Nations or Dungeon Rush? Wondering if they would give any hint to the gameplay etc etc.

I've played Nations quite a few times and it's very good. It is a historical-civilization building game that plays rather quickly and is considered one of the best by some of my fiends who mostly play board games.

Each player has a board of a culture such as Egypt, Greece etc, and by buying cards that represent leaders, building, technology and monuments, tries to advance its position on War, Influence etc through periods of time.

From the description of Anvalor, i guess that the gameplay would be different but perhaps some elements like card selection or that each faction has its own board to perform actions, will be featured here as well.

I already sent this link to my boardgaming fiends and those that love Nations are excited about it (they are clueless about AoS or Warhammer in general).

    Guess we'll see though.

I suggest you go with the Boss Skewer on your warchanter as your third Artefact. Bloodtoofs have sick bravery and with the Boss Skewers +1/-1 bubble it adds an extra benefit. Battleshock should be a problem

I run a very similar Bloodtoofs list

Thanks for the advice, i will try it out for sure next time!

So, i did pretty well on the first game against a legion of night list with manfred and a lot of vargheists, but i am not sure about the bloodtoofs. I want to include the fungoid shaman and a third unit of brutes, so i came up with this.

    Allegiance: Ironjawz
    Mortal Realm: Aqshy
    Leaders
    Megaboss on Maw-Krusha (440)
    - General
    - Trait: Ironclad
    - Artefact: Ignax's Scales
    Orruk Megaboss (140)
    - Artefact: The Boss Skewer
    Orruk Warchanter (80)
    Orruk Warchanter (80)
    Fungoid Cave-Shaman (80)
    Battleline
    20 x Orruk Ardboys (320)
    - 8x Pair of Choppas or Smashas
    - 6x Choppa or Smasha & Shields
    - 6x Big Choppas
    5 x Orruk Brutes (180)
    - 1x Gore Choppas
    5 x Orruk Brutes (180)
    - 1x Gore Choppas
    5 x Orruk Brutes (180)
    - 1x Gore Choppas
    3 x Orruk Gore Gruntas (140)
    Battalions
    Ironfist (180)
    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 1
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 137

I love the pigs, great models and all but with ironfist giving decent mobility, i don't think that a second unit is required.

  13. I finally built my Bloodtoofs for an upcoming tournament. Due to not having yet a fungoid shaman, i will go with double chanter.

    My list is aqshy with,

-Cabbage with ironclad and ignax scales

    -Footboss with thermalrider cloak

    -2x Warchanter

    -20 ardboys

    -2x5 brutes

    -2x3 gore gruntas

Iron Fist and Bloodtoofs for exactly 2k

    I want to ask about the third artifact choice on one of the warchanters. Is the golden toof the obvious choice;

  14. Correct me if i'm wrong, but usually before a big reveal there are some official teasers. Like the Morathi speaking videos for DoK, or the fish for the Idoneth etc. I think that except the rumour engine and LLV's rumours, this time we had few things that pointed towards a reveal for a new faction.

Well, i am happy that they at least included a slight tease for things to come. The fiery bull "screams" brayherds or/and chaos dwarves and it is maybe the first on a series of clues as to what we should be expecting to be revealed soon.

  15. The double turn and the alternate activation of the combat phase are what define AoS for me personally, and i think it will be a mistake to see them go, even if it is a matched play only change.  Otherwise i am hyped from LLV's rumours and as a SCE and a Death player, i can't wait for Summer!

  16. Just saw the email from GW with the new pre-orders (next wave of Nurgle), and I noticed the new Malign Portents Video called "The Visitor". I think the female Voice it's Morathi, and the description underneath point towards Dark Elves.

"From the shadows, a new foe emerges.

An ancient nemesis is returning to the world of warhammer, and the mystery of the Malign Portents deepens. Watch the epilogue and prepare for the reign of shadow..."
