So I got my first three games down, they were all 1000 points so nothing serious but I learned alot throughout all my games. I played Stormcast on Scorched Earth, Nurgle on Starstrike and Ironjawz on Total Comittment. All my games were scenario wins, with the tightest one being Stormcast on Scorched earth.

My tree revenants were fantastic at threatening backfield objectives every game, though I realise not every scenario has those sort of objectives to threaten. In the first two games I was able to place down 2 wyldwoods which again let me threaten to teleport to either side of the board, in the third I could only ever place one due to models and terrain.

The branchwych spell was very good, and got me atleast 10 dryads in every game (got me 30 in the last!) the branchwych I wasn't impressed with at all. Kurnoth hutners with Sychthe and bows were very good and dryads in a pack fo 30 were always awesome.

Did you have a nuke Wych (reaping and circlet)? I'm still trying to get that to work but in my recent games (gorepilgrims and Tzeentz) my magic was kinda hampered

So Swords are out of question in 2.0 I guess, since most of people tend to use Scythes and Bows. Anyone see a point in taking Swords instead?

I used to take 3 scythes/swords and 3 bows pre 2.0. In 2.0 I use 3 swords (only 3 hunters in the list). I already have Alarielle, TLA and TL as hard rendy hitters not to mention I deal ton of MW with magic (gnarlroot 9 spells) which will be focussed against high armor too if possible.. I don't need more rend usually. Against stormcast I might take scythes if I tailor.. but for an all comers tourney I'd go swords. Most opponents don't even have better than 3+ armor save (2+ or 3+ rr.. I guess 4+ rr is scythes too and even armies that do have access too it usually have tons of other targets which are better killed by 4 attack swords and not enough targets for Alarielle, TLA, TL my 9 spells AND 3 scythes).

Right.  Even Winterleaf, you have Dryads which are combat punch.  Trying to find a way to work my 30 Wardancers into my Sylvaneth :P

Proxy them as dryads... there seems no other way you can do this in a usefull way imho.

One thing to consider is the Glade Guard models are 13 years old, the Sisters are 4.  The aesthetic of the Sisters fits more with modern AoS armies and would look not-out-of-place on 32 mm bases.  The GG show their age compared to more recent elf kits.

As far as rules it is the alpha strike vs long game.

Are GG really that impressive as alpha strike?

Hello all I'm a new sylvaneth player and had a  quick question!

Does anyone have some documentation (FAQ etc) on movement through wyldwoods? Specifically around the trees, can you not finish a move on a tree?

It's terrain. Last thing I read was: trees should be in place. Trees are terrain like any other. If you want to move over the base of the tree then you have to move UP the tree (and later you'll have to move down of course.. taking tons of movement). You are allowed to stand on the leaves since it's terrain (and is counted like any other). I think this is in the FAQ. Basicaly Alarielle can just move on a forest and stand where she wants but a TLA will have to move on the trees taking about his whole M to get up there. How this works with attacking I'm not quite sure.. I'd probably just ignore vertical range for that myself.

Hey all, me and the fiance are thinking about doing a Sylvaneth army and I simply ADORE Kurnoth Hunters and Dryads, could a army with say 6 squads of kurnoth hunters with a mixture of scythes and bows work? Or are Kurnoth hunters just not worth using?

I'd honestly be very interested in seeing how an army without big wargroves but with 3 units of Dryads and tons of hunters would workout. 2 wraith with regrowth and summon forest and summon dryads (ofc) would but nice in there.

I like your list! Very similar to the list I played before but without alarielle and more kurnoth. What do you think about pendulum, geminids and balewind? Which one was useful and which one would you change?

I’m thinking about taking cogs to use the +2 charge, would be great teleporting and charging at 7.

In my meta there is often tons of terrain on the table (or big pieces).. very hard to place much after first turn (besides on table edge of my side of the board if I don't pu models there.

  8. I think gnarlroot still has potential but gore pilgrims is a nasty match up..Even with awesome dice it would probably a loss... 8/10.. Using spells to snipe means you won't be doing it at 30 " (as with bow hunters). Which means you can't start sniping turn 1. And characters that really stay behind the enemy line... say.... a secrator will still be hard to reach. I guess that alarielle could get behind lines (assuming you can get a forest there and teleport seems optimistic) and could snipe with spells and then hope to survive,.... against some  armies it might actually work.. but gore pilgrims has high damage output and will block so much spells that it's like,y a waste of 600 points.

In 2 games I have not had the opportunity to use balewind (which is there for the circlet/reaping wych). Both geminids and pendulum are fine. Pendulum usually doesn't hit much after the first turn (I believe it's one way) but if you cast it when battle lines ate closing it's often possible to just put it into 2 units... 2D6 mw is just fine fine fine. Geminids are nice too... When moving circles with it (which is what you'll usually try to hit 3 units you'll see 8 inch isn't a lot and I've often not bothered to try to convince my opponent that I really could just pass over 1 mm of the bases of 3 units. . I settle for 2x 2d3 MW and the modifiers... Which is also nicenicenice . I'm mostly not very happy with alarielle yet in combat(below average rolls) but her spells healing, TL summon and survivability make up for it usually (in my first game vs gore pilgrims the opponents double turn got her 6d6 mw from slaughter priests which killed her.. But that batallion is insane and still way op imho). I'm thinking about how I could put a loremaster in there.. alarielle and tl/tla make him a very very acceptable choice even at his point value.... Just Not sure what to cut.... wraith? Endless spells? 10 of the 20 dryads? Not real stuff I'd like too loose...

That’s really good news!! Which list did you play?

What’s about new tzeentch summoning? Did you find it op or is it balanced?

I played gnarlroot and Alarielle I posted list in this topic (see pdf). Due to thing I mentioned he didn't play optimally so not sure it really reflects the power of the list. I used endless spells and he didn't.  I was a bit cautious with casting and we both dispelled a bit so he only summoned one herald in turn 3( which alarielle skewered on Kurno us spear her next turn). End of my turn 4 we shook hands since he only had changeling and 14 tzaangors left.. And I still had all units (only my dryad unit of 20 was down too 6)... I actually was above 2k points since I had summoned a TL.

He didn't summon in turn 1 with summon points, he used the engine to bring in 20 skinks

And he moved the skinks off but had the engine of the gods there, then when he realised his mistake he said "I really dont know what my plan was there, skinks couldnt have killed him"

It was a very silly mistake,  but he also didnt realise that I could wander a hero up and auto run six inches. Even though we went through all the stuff at the beginning of the game.

I got lucky and he made a huge blunder, so good natured ribbing about not being able to beat wanderers happened, and hopefully will continue next weekend

So.. every 2 turns he can summon a carnosaur?

Had an in-depth look at Sylvaneth in AoS2 on Warhammer Weekly this week. We discuss:

    • What units went up or down in value
    • Battalions (w/ a breakdown of Dreadwood)
    • Stand-out allies
    • Counters

    Check it out:

Not to be ungrateful. But I don't have 3.5 hours time.... recap in writing?

I personally can add that I completely obliterated tzeentsch last week with gnarlroot. I had 9 spell a turn, he had 8. Changeling and gaunt summoner are nasty pieces of work but endless spells are great snipers. Lost of spells got dispelled (an honourable mention for changeling, dispelling aralielles spell then casting it with a roll of 11 and doing 8 mw on tla with oaken armor and gnarled warrior)

Tbh I think he forgot some of his batallion abilities (he had 3) and he didn't know endless spells very well and panicked when geminids got behind his lines instead of dispelling it he wanted to get away from 2d3  damage with 5 wound mages so he charged some dryads in a wyldwood. .. And the TLA roused it with his spell.. and then rolled  5+ for the forest on top of that.... killing 3 of them (gaunt summoner had already been dealt some wounds in shooting or magic).

Anyone know if you can take additional woods in your army list? It has a points cost in GHB 18' it just happens to be zero. In the past you could bring extra to set up before the battle started for something like 40 points.

You can't set them up before the battle, couldn't do this in the past either. You could and can place 1 wyld wood before the game starts... you can bring more but those can only be placed after using (and within the limit of) abilities or spells that place them.

  14. If you start at 24" then even Drycha still has a 6" charge assuming she's positioned ideally. So.… assuming you roll 2 stratagems you can only reliably assume to have 6 hunters and Alarielle in combat and you'd have to "waste" Alarielle's command ability on that and have those 2 units positioned very far away from the rest of the army? I've never seen it (obviously) but it hardly seems THAT much of a winning strategy. Are experiences with it so much better than I'm assuming? Ofcourse you can try to get a forest near enemy lines and teleport next turn but that will inherently still leave those newly teleported units at 9".

I use Swifthawk Agent Reavers as my generic battleline. Min unit size of 5 that costs less than glade riders (granted 3 less models though), can shoot 3 times, then also run after shooting. Plus you can use the old glade rider models to represent them.

And... most importantly.. they are not dwarves... (yeah.. when in Wanderer mode I'm a dwarf racist too :D - only green clad elves need apply for any job).

Classic green scheme, cannot go wrong. Very nice mate. Is that background your gaming board or just display board? Looks awesome either way :)

Display. I been making stuff with large coatings of filler.. I've got it on some of my bases too.. but it's too brittle sadly, looses minimal chips easily so you get bright white small dots.. which is annoying. But I'm happy with it as a display. I need to find a way to make filler less brittle or get a good replacement to use a coating on the styrofoam that is beneath it but I've not yet found it. (the trees are plastic containers with clay around them... but clay doesn't look as nice and stony as the filler for rocks).
