  1. @vinnyt I enjoyed reading your revenge for the trees battle report.

Are you sure you're playing Unleash Hell CA correct? The ability allows you to shoot at the charging unit, and your report reads to me like you were using it to shoot something that didn't charge. Maybe I'm reading it wrong?

  2. Looking at the AoS app, the 'Wanderers' faction doesn't seem to be what it once was. Only has a few heroes and gladeguard in there. All the other units are now in Cities of Sigmar.

A coalition with Wanderers was they are now wouldn't bring us very much. So maybe we will get access to more of the Cities units, if any at all?

  3. I'm hoping the battalions in our book and the new Drycha one will still be around in matched play when AoS 3 hits. Every list I've written in the last week has the Drycha battalion and a unit of T-Revs to give me my battleline.

The info coming out of GW hasn't said categorically that these won't be usable, unless I've missed something?

  4. AoS is a game where the core mechanics are relatively simple, where complexity is introduced through objective based play and where you can leave the game for 6 months then come back and get straight back into it without any real barriers.

I think its a great game, backed up by a great community. Where I live (UK South Coast), there is always someone to arrange a game with and there are loads of clubs / stores that support it. That speaks volumes.

  5. I was in exactly the same situation as you at the weekend, not having played for a while due to Covid and other commitments. I played against FEC and had the same thoughts about my opponent's army. It moves quicker, can run and charge, is better in combat, is better at damage mitigation, is better at healing and getting models back, is able to generate additional command points and has a decent magic phase. Turn 2 or 3 I was thinking "what does my army have?"

My opponent is a very good friend with tonnes of games under his belt from various tournaments and helped me loads in my turns. With his help the game ended up a loss for me, but only by 1 point - even though I essentially only had a wraith and summoned Dryads turn 4 & 5 and he still had 2 terrorghiests amongst other units.

I think the army needs alot of finesse and having had a bit of coaching I can now see that what we have is the ability to score late game objectives. The goal is to keep units alive, not to kill the enemy. Play the scenario at all costs even above kill points. That's what I learned from my game.

Interested to see what other players with more experience than me have to say.

It does not block line of sight. Go reread it.

    OBSTACLES

Some terrain features are obstacles that block attacks to targets that lie beyond them. When this is the case, it will be noted on the warscroll for the terrain feature.

When a missile weapon targets an enemy unit that is within 1” of an obstacle then then target receives the benefit of cover if the attacking unit is closer to the obstacle than the defending unit.

Ha! I’ve been playing this all wrong. Thanks for correction 🙌

The obstacle rules tell you when a unit receives the benefit of the cover rules. Read page 9 of the app core rules.

I was just clarifying the rules of cover and the rules for obstacles.

The rules for cover in AoS is granted when a unit is wholly within or on a terrain piece, page 7 of the core rules. This grants +1 to their save roll. Note this is not the same as the rules for an obstacle.

An obstacle blocks line of sight for shooting attacks targeting a unit behind and within 1” the terrain piece, page 9 of the core rules. Note, this is not the same as the rules for cover and does not grant any bonuses to save rolls.

**Edit** ignore me, I’m wrong 😅

The woods are an obstacle which grants the cover rules. Any terrain feature that is also an obstacle will grant cover. It’s listed in the description of the model on their warscroll not a rule printed on the warscroll itself.

The obstacle rule covers line of sight blocking - not whether something counts as cover. When something grants cover you get +1 to save rolls

    **Edit** again... wrong 😘

  9. Also, worth noting that if a unit charged it can always pile in 3” - even if the models it charged have been removed.

For example - 2 of your units charge 1 enemy unit. Your 1st unit completes all its attacks and wipes out the enemy unit. Your 2nd unit can still pile in 3” towards the nearest enemy model, even though there are no enemy models within 3. This can sometimes mean you get to attack something else. This works really well with weapons that have a 2” or 3” reach.

If that’s true, and if our new woods are under 10” tall (old ones are about 5” tall) it seems like there’s nothing stopping us from picking WW as one or more of our 3 primary peices of terrain.

If thats true, that would be a Godsend and pretty much everything we could want. It’s not without precedent either, since one of the primary terrain pieces is a Sigmarite mausoleum which act as gravesites for LoN armies. It would also make sense that that each faction could use it’s own terrain pieces as substitutes for primary terrain pieces, and why deploying them after terrain is set is so restricted.

Exactly what I was thinking. Although I’m lucky enough to have a decent AoS group where we have mostly been ignoring the scenery restrictions - so don’t expect to have to resort to this.

  11. MWG seemed to only be putting down 4 pieces of (smallish) terrain for their meeting engagements game and it was super sparse - there seemed to be loads of room for faction terrain. Most comments I’ve read worry that there would be too much terrain set up.  Maybe it won’t be so bad after all?

  12. Hello all,

I'm attending a weekend event in a few weeks and since the new Tome is unlikely to appear before then I'm looking at playing a different kind of army with the current Tome.

My army is painted in the Harvestboon colours and I'm interested in trying out something different to the normal Gnarlroot / Dreadwood lists.

    Any suggestions?

  13. Really happy that GW has addressed the Wyldwood question. Are people generally seeing the change as a good thing for the army?

I’ve not played a game with theses rules yet, and my initial reaction is it hurts us (or rather it hurts lists like Gnarlroot and Bow Hunters)
