  1. Welcome @GurgleMyNurgle

Great looking lists! The witherstave is by far the best Artefact in the book. Slot that in over the 1000 poxes tome. The +1 to cast is nice until you realize it’s only on the lore of nurgle. So it wouldn’t affect the casting rolls of “foul regenesis” (the spell to move the cycle), the plague wind spell or any realm spells. Only the spell you assign the GUO. Witherstave up my dude! It shuts down a lot of units special abilities that proc on 6s to hit.

3xfold (I reckon GUOs have a lot more folds then 3 hahah) strengths are the three incredibly tough characters and the 3d3 spell is great! The main weakness is damage and synergy is based on spells with only a couple of ways to buff spells. So you will struggle against seraphon, Lon, Gitz...any army that can dominate the hero phase.

Have fun, come back and report any games played and ask any advice!!!

  2. This is standard at Blood bowl tournaments. The challenge is coming up with tiers. Especially in a game where one faction might have only one competitive build. Like what if Deepkin were placed in tier one, but someone ran a thrall heavy army with allopexes, both of which are sub-optimal. They are “penalized” for bringing a competitive faction, but a sub-optimal build.

its certainly an idea I have given thought to. But creating the tiers is very hard.

This is a hobby, one of the few things that does not cause stress.

Oh honey! I think you underestimate the seriousness at which some attach thier self worth to this and other hobbies!

    From the WC article:

You’ll be able to order the first of the Ossiarch Bonereapers from October – Nagash waited for an aeon to unleash his creations, but you only have to wait a couple of months. Can’t wait for more goodness from the Mortal Realms? Don’t fret – before these guys arrive, both Order and Destruction aficionados will have a chance to bolster their defences with new battletomes coming in the next few weeks.

Sylvaneth: Come in various flavors, but they might not necessarily be male and female in the way we understand it (plant reproduction is fascinating). They also have a sort of pseudo-resurrection in the form of lamentiri.

I am an arborist IRL and can offer some insight into the Sylvaneth  portion of the OP.

Trees (on Earth anyway..) can be monoecious, diecious, or polygamodioecious. This means that a particular species can produce ONLY male flowers and will require a separate individual with ONLY female flowers to produce a seed (diecious), or a single individual can have both male and female flowers and can produce seed without any other individual (monoecious), OR a a specious can be be EITHER monoecious or diecious.

Red maple (Acer rubrum) for example, is polygamodioecious. One maple tree may be ONLY male/female,  while the maple right next to it might have BOTH male and female flowers. So in regards to sylvaneth, it is unclear what particular species of tree they are, perhaps many different species. I know in LOTR, the ents are all different species and that is some sort of class system in their society. Perhaps that's the case with Sylvaneth? Regardless, its likely they reproduce in much the same fashion as trees on Earth (or the world that was) and have many different variety of tree species each with their own characteristics.

Aside from gardeners/arborists, not many people can distinguish between tree species so perhaps thats why its not expressly written in the lore. If you are interested in both trees and miniatures (sometimes combined! @sal4m4nd3rWelcome! Looks like a a super fun list. I think the biggest challenge will be keeping your big blob of 40 Arkanauts safe while still playing the objectives game. With only 4 units (not counting the heroes) you might struggle against armies that can out drop you and make a first turn charge, since Arkanauts die fast. Although if they go first, you can smash Gotrek into them when it's your turn!

Just super excited to dig myself into this warscrolls and lore. Picked up a battletome and 4 additional arkanauts with skyhooks for cheap. Once I get some games in for the initial honeymoon phase, I will be looking to build a competitive army.  Its there, I know it! Since Im up to my eyeballs in a sylvaneth painting commision, I have commissioned the build of the 70 dwarfs out to a buddy.  Its also my absolute LEAST favorite part of the hobby. So cant wait to get those back and get some paint on them! For now, I'm off to scour the interwebs for more skyhooks, and decide on a paint scheme!

See you boys and girls in the sky!

  6. While we are on the subject of painting VLC's...here is a Verminlord Corrupter I painted as a commission. Client needed it QUICKLY so didnt have a huge amount of time to pronounce the details.  But I LOVE the idea @Fluxlord. The pale skin fits with the nurgle theme, and the red eyes certainly make snese from a predator/evil theme. But also works with the "lab rat" theme. Works on multiple levels which means more people will appreciate it. Great idea cant wait to see it completed!

  8. It absolutely does! And if you ever get an extra Artefact, the sword of judgement is ridiculous on him!!! I have given him pestilent breathe as a command trait to great success to stack with his existing shooting attack as well. With this combo and his spell...he will WRECK hordes

Does it have an attacks characteristic?

Nope, Warp Lightning Blast is an ability (listed as one) that the Warp Lightning Cannon uses in the shooting phase instead of performing a regular attack sequence. The mortal wounds caused by it are not attacks as defined by the core rules.

    Cry harder Thanquol pls ;)

Does it have a damage characteristic.. because that is what is teased down to 1. No need for insults and rudeness.

  10. 14 hours ago, Double Misfire said:

Attacks don't equal spells or abilities. It doesn't matter what you think it is designed to represent, RAW, the Warp Lightning Cannon's Warp Lightning Blast is  a single ability with a maximum and minimum amount of mortal wounds inflicted by it, and not a series attacks. Avatar of Grimnir states that "If the damage inflicted by an attack' spell or ability that targets or affects [Gotrek] is greater than 1, change it to 1" - Warp Lightning Blast is an ability directly targeting Gotrek, with the potential to inflict more than 1 damage. If it does inflict 2 or more damage on him then the amount dealt is automatically reduced to 1.

The Ratling Gun's More-more Warplead! ability in other example you've given affects the Ratling Gun itself and not Gotrek, doubling the Ratling Gun's random attack characteristic. The ability does not affect Gotrek, and he is only affected by the Ratling Gun's (2D6x2) individual attacks.

Gotta disagree with you here. WLC is a missile weapon with each of its attacks doing one MW each.  Just because it has a different firing mechanic, doesnt suddenly make it an "ability". An ability would be like a warscroll item that says "this guy is tough a nails. when he looks at you you get scared. Pick a model and do d3 mortal wounds"  If WLC's attacks did 2 or d3 MW each (lol that would be crazy) then yeah it would get reduced to one each.

But then the Slaanesh player summons 6 more keepers, so really you’ve done him a favor

i haven’t matched it out yet, but I’m fairly sure your big unit of blight Kings can one round him if they get the drop on him

5 blightkings deal about 1-2 wounds to him, if you roll average amount of 6s and each 6 to hit turns into 3.5 hits.

15 attacks. 10 hits. I aired on the side of the blightkings here and figured there would be 2 6s. so 8 regular hits + 7 extra attacks. Thats 15 hits. 10 wounds. 5 get through his armor. He maybe fails 2 of those.

I guess Im being a bit of a whiny little butt muncher. I'm STILL a bit salty blightkings didnt get unmodified 6s and Glott, plaguebearers, and horticulous didn't go down in points.

Thx for the advice! I definitely will consider this, which also means I have to get myself a verminlord and paint it up. In the mean i can try to play with what I wrote down here and when vermi is ready try to squeeze him in. I see your reasoning, but hat frightens me a little is the loss of the LoB, the -1 from PB themselfs + -1 LoB in melee + -1 horrific opponent to hit sounds so good. On the other hand do those plaguebearers need it and it sucks up CP.

Im just gonna try them out all 3! And see how hey perform...

The way I look at it...your “spending” 140 points for one extra turn of -2 to hit instead of -1. Only because in my opinion..those 90 points are wasted on a warscroll that provides very little in terms of impact on the table. I still don’t think it’s a bad list..quite the contrary. I thinks it’s really strong, well thought out. And can do well. I just am trying to help you optimize 🙂

Well first, isn't that a good thing? Second, he will be locused into submission and if both keepers will be in range to fight he might as well die before he will be able to do anything. Third - how will this stunty walk up to those keepers with his 4 inch move stunty legs? Fourth - how many games you expect to win with 1/4 of your points spent on slow af deathstar in a game of capturing objectives with bodies?

10" move for one cp. 12" with cogs. I went 4-1(3rd place) at major tournaments using a model I was told wasnt competitive (glottkin) who was 440 points. It can be done. All three keepers could swing first. he would probably still tank them.

He might kill all those Keepers ... or fight an endless fight against dozens of Daemonettes that get re-summoned every turn while the Keepers deal with the rest of the now rather small army. ^^

Well he can easily kill 32 demonettes in one turn so....

It's not that bad, not everyone will have Gotrek, even less will have actually working lists capable of winning competetive games with him. It's just harmless fun.

He cant straight up tank and kill three keepers 1v3. He will easily one shot one keeper, attack again and kill the second. Next round killing the third.  But sure.. he isnt that bad.

  15. I like the list @Fluxlord. I dont like the spoilpox. 90 points for essentially RR 1s to hit. Without blades of putrefaction, no real reason to slightly buff the offensive output of PBs when thier role is to plop on objectives or tarpit. IF you removed him, the LOB and the cp.. you could squeeze in a verminlord corrupter who is a nurgle demon wizard, so locus to PB, dope anti horde spell, double caster. Can be general and still get a command trait, can hold the witherstave and be given favored poxes/glorious afflictions/sumptuous pestilence to cast. I think people underestimate pestilent breathe trait and the sumptuous pestilence spell in tandem. That can do some serious damage. Combine that with his ability to blow up hordes as it is..oof.

Just a suggestion. I think those 90 points are useless, except to carry the witherstave. I mean even the spoilpox+cp turn that into a poxbringer with witherstave, favored poxes and a good shot at a triumph is better IN MY OPINION.

  16. I love the lore, history, model, and everything about this release....except the rules. I dont care about the 520 point price tag. He can ally into any order army and a true unstoppable force and immovable object. Its bad for the game to have this warscroll. Its bad precedent. It will probably be errata'd down at some point which also enrages me. Why even put this into the world in the first place?

Does match play rules allow for Slaves to Darkness battalions to be taken as part of a Nurgle allegiance army?

Does the battlaion have a keyword? Look just above or below the battalion name at the top of the warscroll. If it says StD then no it cant.

    • Thanks 1
  18. I agree with dredmund. The Harbinger of decay is essential for a mortal army. He also is just a mortal on a horse., so loads of conversion opportunity. The GW model is pretty terrible. You will also need another unit of putrid blightkings to fill out the battleline requirements. I also really like gutrot spume's warscroll. He can take a unit of blightkings and outflank from the board edge which is helpful for many different reasons.

Legion of grief gives you access to gravesites and the summon command ability. which makes the unending horde approach actually a viable option. While this feeds directly into what the original complaint was about (being forced to use masses of voting units), it legitimizes one way to play them. Also not worrying about ally restrictions to bring in necromancers and vampire lords is a nice bonus.

In a different direction, grief and the summoning allows you to super buff a unit of bladegheists or even harridans, and throw them into the enemy without worrying if they die. They can do the same damage in nighthaunt, but grief allows you to recycle that unit so you dont feel the loss of that unit nearly as much.

Legion of Grief does NOT give access to gravesites and endless legions command ability. FAQ stated explicitly it is NOT a legion of nagash. It is also NOT a nighthaunt army, and cannot use their allegiance abilities.

Amazed to see two Tzeentch lists at the top as the the codex is old and generally considered low tier. Though both are pretty extreme builds. so perhaps they caught opponents by surprise.

The 18 Skyfire list seems like insanity, but I can see how effective it could be. Hard to win if all of your characters get sniped!

Kaleb walters ran the 18 skyfires. He has won nova several times, and i think won adepticon as well. VERY good players. Joe Krier ran the changehost list. He is also one of the best players playing right now. 6th on ITC currently. I played against him in my game 4.

    Hey man!

That feature will be added soon. I'm going on vacation over the weekend but plan to have it done early next week. Brilliant suggestion!

Thanks for the heads up on the podcast. How did you place at NOVA?

I won the thursday RTT but came in 22nd in battle points in the gt (18th overall). Was slightly disappointed with a 3-2 finish. The weaknesses in my list I had identified going into the event were the issues that gave me the most trouble so thats always a good sign in terms of list building. I was glad to meet you, and thanks for chatting with me. Enjoy the vacation! I cant imagine the amount of time and energy you put into aos reminders! What an amazing tool for the community. I mean its seriously up there in the pantheon with warscroll builder when that came out., in terms of impactfulness once more people catch on.

So forgive me for being rat ignorant, but how do they get all of the extra attacks when the clawlord command ability says a unit can only be chosen to benefit from it once per phase?

Didnt mean to start up a thing. Clawlord on brood horror isnt capped.

Just wondering, how he got 3dice rolls to gain back cp, for each hero, since the rules for the  Aether quartz brooche explicitly says that you can roll when a cp us spend, meaning that heros who are affected by thanqouls command ability, wouldn't be able to roll 2dice!

    am i missing something??

Then perhaps I misunderstood him. He is part of a large and established gaming group. I'm sure he was playing it correctly  :)

Let me guess he used thanquols command ability on two other Masterclan heroes gaining and being able to roll twice with thanqoul and with each masterclan hero ones,  to gain his huge pool of cp.

Im also guessing that he used the clawlord on brood horror since the command ability of clawlord to foot cant be used multiple times on the same unit.

Isnt it 3 heros? And yes, he combined the aether quartz brooche, master manipulator and one of the sub factions allegiance ability to get 3 dice rolls per command ability used.  I suppose it had to have been the CLoBH. Didnt know the foot lord was capped.
