Hey guys and gals!
I've got a friend moving over from 40k. He wants to start two AoS armies.
One a fast, in your face, all out aggressive army. (thinking slaanesh, eels, DoK, FEC etc) This is mostly going to be his 'fun' army.
The second army (this would be his main competitive, tournament army) a solid defensive line which is able to hold objectives. He still wants the army to have some fighting power but wants to make it hard to shift.
I have limited experience with these types of forces and was wondering if anyone could lend some knowledge. (Again this is mainly aimed at tournament play) Any ideas would be useful.
Bit of context as well. I know through playing AoS for a while that this game lends itself to being offensive and pushing objectives. What my mate actually wants is a defensive core. With the ability to take and hold objectives without giving them up too easily.
Thanks in advance 😊

as @Gwendar said plague monks are killy monsters and definitly out class storm vermin in durability and damage.
that said looking at it the rats aren't the most OP thing as other units like evocators/enlightend on disc/witch aelves can do similar numbers or higher. That said plague monks are quite good as a hammer unit.A unit of 40 monks in combat especially if they are buffed with a furnace are the single greatest killy unit in the game. They far out shine anything you have mentioned. I run between 80 and 120 monks in my list with 2 plague furnaces. So far in combat they have killed everything they've touched. By far and away our best unit.
Believe me when I say you don't know how good these rats are until you use them.

Hello there guys, gals and rats.
I am a new skaven player and have been toying with this list. What do you guys think? I'd like to use skaven as my tournament army so this list would have to take all comers in a 5 game series.
Allegiance: Chaos
Mortal Realm: GhyranLeaders
Warpgnaw Verminlord (320)
- General
- Trait: Cunning Deceiver
- Artefact: Ghyrstrike
Thanquol and Boneripper (400)
- Warpfire Projectors
Grey Seer (100)Battleline
40 x Clanrats (200)
- Rusty Spear
40 x Clanrats (200)
- Rusty Spear
40 x Clanrats (200)
- Rusty SpearUnits
3 x Stormfiends (290)
3 x Stormfiends (290)Total: 2000 / 2000
Extra Command Points: 0
Allies: 0 / 400
Wounds: 184One thing I have already decided is to drop the grey seer and add in Cogs so the warpgnaw verminlord only needs a 7 on the charge rather than a 9.
Other than that would do you guys think?

I would bring only the 20x Irondrakes and up the Hammerers to 20 for a couple of reasons:
-10 Irondrakes could be sniped easily (thinking of nurgle spells, cicle of contagion mortal wounds, every ranged unit in the game, deep strike). Only one wound to them and you have 9 attacks at mediocre range.
-Hammerers are not durable, they do suffer mortal wounds from spell and have a 4+ save, 1 wound. They rely on number and have to run to the enemy. If you pickaxe the Ironbreakers or Irondrakes they need to walk to the enemy, if you want to pickaxe them you need to take into account a failed charge and 10 of them would not survive 1 turn. In my games Hammerers are what the opponent is concerned about, they are scary if you set up a countercharge or a pickaxe with charge reroll.
Hammerers and Irondrakes are overcosted units, in my opinion, if you want to bring them you need to be 100% sure to be able to squeeze every point they cost. I like my hammerers at 30 and my irondrakes at 20.
But again i think Dispossessed is a very experience-based army so i cannot talk for you and for your local meta, if you end up bringing your list let us know what you think and what your experience was! 😋
My local meta is death, deepkin, clan pestilence, chaos, destruction and sylvaneth.
What does a typical list look like for you?

OK so I was thinking about this as a tournament competitive list.

Hey there guys,
I am seriously considering skaven as my next army. I've always had a love for the rats. I love the models and think they could be really fun.
Before I get started I do have a few questions. This is mostly based towards a competitive environment however, all feedback is appreciated.
I would either go mixed skaven or clan pestilence is either more competitive or are they roughly equal?
1) How does the army play? Fast? Slow? Camp objectives? Defensive? Offensive? Hard hitting or wet noodle? Do units die to a slight breeze? Or put up a good fight?
2) what are the good match ups/bad match ups? Good scenarios/bad scenarios?
3) does the army need allies to succeed?
4) How competitive if at all would you say the army is?
5) What would a typical list look like?
I'm thinking three blocks of 40 clan rats supported by some hero's?

Hey guys, very new ironjawz player here (in fact I'm playing my first games this coming Wednesday). Going to play down a local club with a good bunch of guys. As I really want to start going to tournaments I have told them to bring solid lists (even though I'm new, I want to learn) With this in mind. I'm going to be playing against some pretty tough competitors, mainly playing death, chaos, deepkin etc. Mainly meta armies.
So far this is the list I've come up with.
Allegiance: Ironjawz
Leaders
Megaboss on Maw-Krusha (440)
- General
- Boss Gore-hacka and Scrap-tooth
- Trait: Ironclad
Orruk Warchanter (80)
- Artefact: The Boss Skewer
Orruk Warchanter (80)
Battleline
6 x Orruk Gore Gruntas (280)
- Pig-iron Choppas
3 x Orruk Gore Gruntas (140)
- Pig-iron Choppas
5 x Orruk Brutes (180)
- Pair of Brute Choppas
- x Gore Choppas
5 x Orruk Brutes (180)
- Pair of Brute Choppas
- x Gore Choppas
5 x Orruk Brutes (180)
- Pair of Brute Choppas
- x Gore Choppas
5 x Orruk Brutes (180)
- Pair of Brute Choppas
- x Gore Choppas
Battalions
Ironfist (180)
Total: 1920 / 2000
Extra Command Points: 2
Allies: 0 / 400
Wounds: 131
The models I own are:
9 GGs. 20 Brutes. 30 Ard boys. 2 warchanters. 2 footboss. 1 cabbage. 1 Weirdnob. 1 orruk boss with banner.
What do you guys think?
How could I improve my list using the models I have?
What should I look at for my next purchases?
Most Defensive armies?

OK so I have a skaven Army (with all the filth) I let him use them and he hated it. Didn't like the style or the infinite dice rolling (from monks).
