One thing that I have been thinking about is how to incorporate the bonuses that some units would receive from having large numbers.

For example, Several Seraphon units gain benefits from having 10, 20 or even 30 models in their unit. These benefits would be difficult, if not impossible to obtain with the small force aim of this style. I'm not sure how this could be incorporated.

Alternatively, some Skaven units, like the Stormvermin gain a bonus when they outnumber an enemy unit. I think this is one is easier to implement. Simply rule that individual models within melee range count towards outnumbering an opponent. (Clarification Example 1: Two stormvermin in direct base to base contact with the same opponent model would could as outnumbering 2-1. --- Example 2: Two stormvermin, one in base to base contact and a second one 3" away would not count as outnumbering because the second is not within melee range.)

I like the second suggestion because it fits that the feeling of outnumbering would still be there even in small numbers.

The bonusses for bigger units are more difficult as you say. I personally would just drop them or keep the requirement and even require them to be within 2" of each other. As most of those rules (as far as I know) relate to a unit being trained to fight in a certain manner together to get a bonus.

Example: Dark Shards (and quarrelers) get extra shots if their unit size exceeds 20. I imagine that they can shoot more often because they are trained to fire in groups. The second line does not aim but follows the trajectory of the first shot while the first line reloads and in that manner shoot more often. For me this doesn't translate to skirmish battles.

Example 2: units like executioners, dread swords, dwarf warriors get a bonus to wounds in combat. I image them fighting in a strict formation to gain that advantage. Think 300, Vikings or similar shows with the roman testudo being the obvious example. Again this doesn't translate to smaller skirmish games.

But it that's just me and my interpretation. Anyone that thinks that similar rules should translate?

Don't get your hopes up.  It is just this model, complete with jellyfish coming out of his hand:

Dang! It's one of the few periods they never really touched on (I know Nippon was there but that was never truly a faction) and I think thats a shame. As long as they give it the same sort of twists they did with egypt/Tomb Kings.

I am betting on a new AoS box in the Summer with Aelves vs Slaanesh....

Haha I'm hoping, does that count as well ;) Currently expanding the first and just started on the second so bring me that spire of dawn style double army. :D

It's more likely that GW knew their own release schedule/model production. They saw that Slaanesh wasn't getting anything new for quite a while, so figured they'd make that into a plotline. Maybe not with a conscious plan or anything. Just an idea that "once we get around to doing Slaanesh again, we'll have a cool story hook".

Very possible but you could also explain it like this: by not interlily killing slaanesh off they keep the door open for slaanesh players to make the switch from warhammer to AoS. Which would be priority one (same with the compendium scrolls). And keeping slaanesh in limbo does not hurt anyone.

Although personally I expect the elves release will bring slaanesh back. In some unexplored part of the shadow realm. Mostly based on the elf assassin from the silver tower game.

But my point was. That they would always fit the fluff to the armies and maybe  the ongoing narrative.

From the 96-page book with the starter set...

Not particularly informative, but it definitely shows that the Steamhead Duardin can be expected as a release at some point.

    Cool! Never saw that before.

Honestly... I'd photo up my source. But, he's a friend and likes his job. So, I can't. But I'm very confident things are close with that faction.

That's fair enough. But you'd break my spirit if it's not true ;)

Wouldnt be surprised if they were all linked.

Yeah I think your right. one, maybe two faction. If only one I suspect a start collecting box. If two start collecting + a starter box? We'll see but thats were i'm placing my bets.

It does seem like we are in the portion of the year where 40k is taking precedence, but hopefully AOS will get some love soon.

I kind of feel this has been said every couple of comments since the start of this thread ;)

Would be fun to see a new faction or updates but I rather wait a little longer than have GW deliver rushed products.

*Added in edit: personally I think it's a good thing they don't announce anything because it would only lead to disappointment if it misses the deadline.

  9. Some 3000 pnts of dwarfs, 1500-2000 Dark Elves, 2000 Ogres and about 2500 pnts of Skaven. I am especially proud of all ( about 10 units) the dogs of war that are painted but never saw the battlefield :D Love those models.

Also ordered around 1K of Slaanesh deamons and mortals. My first round based army, whoohoo

Absolutely not. They are absolutely an Order force. Order is not the same thing as good. Being "good" is not a pre-requisite for order. Where are the D&D people here to back me up? Say it with me Lawful Evil.

please for pete's sake stop asking dark elves to be made destruction or chaos that is completely illogical with respect to the fluff.

Don't act like a there is a single truth. There are a thousand and one ways to place DE in destruction with fluff. So if someone voices their opinion let them, accept it and don't try to suggest that their opinion is ridiculous. It doesn't help a constructive conversation and is a bit rude.  Also it decreases the value of your otherwise good point.

Order is indeed not the same as good. I play dark elves since 6th (I think) and I don't think they should be moved. But mostly because of battlefield aesthetics. Wouldn't look right placing a organized unit of dread spears next to a rabble of goblins.?

background/setting perspective and they assist in balance. I just think that any army with only a single battleline option should get at least one more, maybe two.

I get the sentiment (and support it) but for that to be viable some factions need to be expanded or merged. For example, the DE are so divided in factions that it's not possible to make more units battle line. See shadowblades (assassin + dark riders) or scourge privateers. You could make the chariots battle line but then the whole army would be hero, behemoth or battle line. Which feels like an over reaction.
