I must be missing something..... where does it say that we can flee AND charge? Scurry Away is not worded that way....

    2. Yes you could take the same spell from a spell lore for your hero’s.

Although, you won’t be able to cast the spell twice or more so, not really sure why to bother.

It's my understanding that when you pay the points for an endless spell, all of the casters in your army have access to it. They simply can't cast it twice, and if it gets dis-spelled, you can't recast it until a later turn.

I agree with a fair few of the posts so far as to what the new battletome/releases will entail. Here's my 2 cents as to the updates.

Hero wise is already pretty set. There's: Archaon, Chaos Lord/Sorcerer on foot & on Manticore, Gaunt Summoner, Darkoath Warchief/Warqueen and Daemon Prince (maybe Belakor with a resculpt). I think that both the Exalted Hero and Chaos lord on Daemonic Mount will be discontinued and replaced with a mounted Varanguard "Lieutenant" and a Darkoath Shaman in the same vein as Theddra.

Units wise: Chaos Knights, both flavours of Chariot, Warshrine and Varanguard sculpts all hold up. Chaos Warriors, Marauders and Marauder Horsemen will get resculpts. Even though the Horsemen sculpts still hold up, they won't fit the aesthetic of the new Marauders as seen in the Godsworn Hunt. Marauders will be hand weapon and shield with X amount of Great Weapons per 20 or the option to give them bows instead. Chosen will probably be replaced by an Everchosen elite foot unit that fulfils a similar role. Perhaps also Chaos doggo unit similar to Gruul. Not sure if "stateless" daemons/units like Soul Grinders, Furies (with a resculpt) and Warhounds will be included.

Rules wise, while not the same, they'll probably be in the same design space as Beasts of Chaos. Separate allegiance abilities/command traits/artefacts for Everchosen, Slaves to Darkness and Darkoath. Spell Lore with a smaller one exclusively for Darkoath Shaman or Gaunt Summoner perhaps? Similar battalion set up with one focused on each sub-faction, a few that mesh sub-factions together and four god specific ones as well. Terrain piece would probably be a Chaos Shrine that has effects in the same vein as the Herdstone but obviously distinctly unique. Endless spells I have no idea really.

I'm just spitballing here but overall at most that's 9 new kits plus terrain piece and endless spells which is pretty much in line with the other Malign Portents Harbingers army releases.

I hope you're right.... My wallet wants some extra room in it that can only be provided by this type of release!

That may be, but it still stands as I stated.... there's no guarantee that there'll be any real new stuff for StD, other than a hero or two, endless spells and maybe some kind of terrain. Just sayin'.

  5. 32 minutes ago, Frowny said:

I think you all are forgetting how many new kits the 3 prior foretold factions are getting.

Nighthaunt used 3 existing kits but got 4 infantry kits, another 5 heroes and the black coach, about 10 kits total.

Sacrosanct got sequitors, castigators, Evocators (mounted and unmounted), the ballista and 4 heroes (ordinator and like 3 varients of Lord arcanum) is almost 10 kits again

Gloomspite got manglers, loonboss, 2 squig kits, the multishamans, trolls, trogboss, new fanatics, the snufflers, for again about 10 kits, some with multibuild options.

I think there will be quite a few...

Hm.... Let's not forget that BoC got only endless spells and a herdstone. And it looks, at least so far, that shaven haven't gotten too much either. The endless spells, sure. Gnawholes, check. A rocket engineer? Yup. Not really too much else that I can see. Fact is, the armies that have been around a long time and have a plethora of units already available i.e. StD only get the bare minimum as far as new stuff. Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to see a Mammoth, maybe some shooting units but we'll just have to wait and see. Chaos just doesn't seem to get the love as much as Death and Order.

With the new Verminlords all having a 4+ armor save with a 5+ save after the save and 2 spells for about 260 points do you guys foresee a substantial price drop for GUOs in the new GHB? I was hoping for a small one, mostly because of the sword, but looking at these I'm think as low as 280 is possible.

Either that OR, more likely, the price of VLs will go up once it becomes apparent just how OP they are.... Points adjustments are inevitable. Maybe a nic 'move toward the middle'. As, I think, VLs will increase by approx 20-40 pts, maybe the GUOs could come down 20?

Mate, can you show med the list you've used with the Vermin lord? Would love to se it and if you could share your overal strategy when playing it?

I made my own just now, what you think?

    Great Unclean One (340)

     Gutrot Spume (140)

    Verminlord Corruptor (220)

    Poxbringer Herald of Nurgle (120)

    30 x Plaguebearers (320)

    10 x Plaguebearers (120)

    10 x Putrid Blightkings (320)

    6 x Plague Drones (400)

    Total: 1980 / 2000 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 0 / 400 Wounds: 150

    Thanks man!

I can't find the list I used, but this one you show is basically the same. You can give the VL either the dimensional blade,(great v those good armor save units), or the sword of judgement for hero/monster sniping.

If you want them for that reason, then you want to go with 40. Simply due to the fact that you need some ablative sponge Wounds to keep them from loosing 1 model and immediately loosing the Rerolls of 1-2s.

Plus those 40, while short in range, can dish out surprising amount of dakka if left unchecked :D Keep them alive and those re-rolls will do a lot.

(Granted anything with 4+ save is gonna ignore them, but 5+ save 1W models ? Oh yessssh)

40 is the way to go..... with all the shots, they can be a real pain. I've taken Valkia and a bloodsecrator off the table with one turn of shooting, splitting shots. Then had them pump arrows into anything that came near until they were gone. Spent some points and brought back a couple smaller ambush units to annoy the heck out of my opponent. It worked well.

Regarding Drones: I reckon they are a staple for our fast mover offensive slot.

Assuming a List with  30PB and 10 PB as Anvils, Gutrot Deepstriking 10 BK and a Bell GUO and space for one Wizard of Choice (Blades might be a good idea but is pretty unreliable): Would you run one unit of 6 or two units of 3? Also whats your preferred Locus-Hero? I do like the idea of Slimux but am afraid, that he wont be able to keep up.

    List I´m thinking of is:

    Allegiance: Chaos

    Leaders
    Great Unclean One (340)
    - General
    - Bile Blade and Doomsday Bell
    - Trait: Pestilent Breath  OR Grandfahters Blessing?
    - Artefact: The Witherstave
    - Lore of Virulence: Sumptuous Pestilence OR Favored Poxes?
    Gutrot Spume (140)
Horticulous Slimux (220) OR LOA with Rustfang (No Witherstave?)
Festus the Leechlord (140) OR a Herald with Favored Poxes?
    - Lore of Malignance: Blades of Putrefaction (Blades worht it? Even when taking 2x3 Drones?)

    Battleline
    30 x Plaguebearers (320)
    10 x Plaguebearers (120)
    10 x Putrid Blightkings (320)

    Units
    3 x Plague Drones (200) OR 6x PD?
    3 x Plague Drones (200)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 147

I've used Slimux, and if you are careful with him, he can keep up. That said, I've had better luck, imo, with a vermin lord corruptor. Fast enough to keep up, and I give him one of the @$$-kicking artifact blades i.e. dimensional blade or sword of judgement. He's a real force with those 10 attacks!. And while he may be squishy-er than Slimux, you can help him a bit with possibly healing him from your GUO. I've never had him not get his points back, he can be a real pain to armies with that one big guy that everything hinges on (Nagash, Stardrake, etc) and is cool looking on the table as well. All good.

Plus most resin models for warriors of chaos either got moved to the god armies (various chaos lords of X), moved to BoC (dragon ogor) or were removed (chaos trolls, chaos ogres). That really just leaves chosen/foot varanguard.

Also assuming the underworlds warband is any indication of a unit, there may be a "marauder hunter" unit of foot archers/javelins.

I'm also very curious if they'll bring Forsaken back. Really weird they killed off an 8th edition chaos plastic set even if it sold poorly.

    That would be nice....

With the lack of shooting in the meta, as long as you’re smart and keep him out of threat range or hiding behind chaff walls he takes a fair while to die, however I encourage you to try building lists without him because after a year of playing with the model I’ve realised I use it as a crutch more often than not.

I don't know..... there's still plenty of stuff out there that can shoot him down pretty quickly. It's hard, next to impossible to screen that big dude from shooting.

I usually have to shadow him with Festus so he can potentially get 2d3 wounds back per turn. That's a huge point sink even though Festus has a cool (if short range) spell to offer.

Played my first game the other day with the following list below. Very happy with the outcome (first game first win!) Played against the following list

    1x Demonprince

    2x5 Skullcrushers

    2x10 Chaos Knights

    1x Warshrine

1x Banner of some sort that has an 18inch aura of something :)

    1x Chaos Lord on Jugger

    1x Chaos Lord

    My list:

    Allegiance: Nurgle
    Mortal Realm: Ghyran
    Archaon (660)
    - General
    - Lore of Virulence: Glorious Afflictions
    - Lore of Foulness: Magnificent Buboes
    The Glottkin (420)
    - Lore of Malignance: Blades of Putrefaction
    - Lore of Foulness: Plague Squall
    Harbinger of Decay (160)
    - Artefact: The Witherstave
    40 x Chaos Marauders (200)
    - Axes & Shields
    5 x Putrid Blightkings (160)
    5 x Putrid Blightkings (160)
    20 x Plague Monks (140)
    - Foetid Blades
    3 x Nurglings (100)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 157

You do know that both Archie and the Glottkin can only choose one of those spells, right?

Its like a huge cash cow. Make the minis and watch them sell out like hot bread on a Sunday morning !

I dont believe that with the relatively big success the BoC book garnered, with many new players starting the army from s scratch, GW is not planning on releasing some new stuff for us, even if its just updated models. I mean look at the old mental Khorngors Pestigors and such, they got sold out rather fast, so the market certainly has the buying power and interest required for.
Hope they wont be lazy and instead just plop another stupid copy-paste looking Stormcast Retardant (yes I honestly despise that faction and wast amount of models associated with it, with only few exceptions).

Ditto on the SCE remark. Space Marines really have no place in Fantasy, imo. They've certainly gotten all the love as far as new releases. I'd like to see the chaos factions get a little of that attention, BoC, Slaanesh (hopefully Wrath and Rapture addresses this), and Skaven need some new stuff for sure.

    Hi,

I'm just getting started with AoS and have two quick rules questions.

    1) Does Spoilpox Scrivener's Keep Counting ability work for Plague Drones? While it says Plaguebearers units, it isn't in capital letters and therefore doesn't refer to the keyword, so no?

    2) GUO's selfinflicted wounds with the Bileblade can't be ignored, so Blubber and Bile can't save it? But for example if the GUO is equipped with The Endless Gift In can try to heal the selfinflicted wound?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. No reason why not.

    2. Just heal him in your next hero phase with Corpulent Mass ability.

What stops me from running him in Despoilers? You can run Gors, Bestigors, and Wargors in that formation. It isnt JUST warherd.

He can't be used in matched play, unless you just use the model to represent a Beastlord, like I do.

i dont know in Your meta but in mine blightkings are not the big deal there is a lot of things that give them -1, or obliterates them 1Turn.  Against Ironjawz they do nothing if they fight brutes or charged by gore gruntas

I was talking about how Plaguebeares can be used when summoned....

  17. 20 hours ago, Hannibal said:

The thing is: 30 Plaguebearers are really hard to remove and well worth the 320 points. But compare 10 Plaguebearers to 5 Blightkings. There is no competition, Blightkings are better in every single aspect and only 40 pts more expensive.

Plaguedrones with GUO's command ability and a Daemon hero nearby are able to bring the hurt, but I doubt that 3 will be enough.

Blightkings are great. But they aren't summonable. Units of 10 PBs can be a major pain for your opponent when summoned in as speed bumps.

  18. 15 hours ago, peasant said:

yes, but I read here of people having trouble with units of 6 being so hard to pile effectively in.combat

I've had success with units of 3. I just shadow them with a DP or a vermin lord with an artifact (sword of judgement or something)

Regarding chariots (gorebeast or regular), as individuals each one is exalted and gets the +1 to hit for the axe/flail. However if you plan on buffing them, with a lord on daemonic mount's ability for example, then putting them in a unit ensures they all receive the buff.

Another consideration; they get extra attacks on a charge roll of 8+ so having 2-3 individual units increases the chance of this happening for at least one of them (assuming all charging the same target at the same time). Of course as a unit of 2 or 3 then one successful 8+ charge benefits all at once. So its all or nothing on that option.

Maybe the deciding factor is that the "unit" does mortal wounds on the charge (each model within "2" of the unit takes a mortal wound on 6). As a unit of 2 or 3, the ability would only goes off once. However if 2 or 3 individual chariots successfully charge then the ability would go off multiple times.

That being said, I would probably be inclined to run them as individual units for the sake of flexibility and avoidance of battle shock.

^^ what he said. But here's something to think about:

A lord on demonic mount can buff a unit of chariots (+1 to hit, re-roll charge), and Sail the Faithless can teleport them anywhere they can fit in on the table top. Very disrupting for your opponent to have a unit of three gore beast chariots materialize in front of an important unit/character.

I would take Gutrot. I think the deepstrike, even with 5 PBKs, is more substantial for a slow Blightking list than an occasional heal and per-unit rend.

True.... in an either/or situation, Gutrot wins hands down. He's almost an auto-include in any list I make.

thanks! Great advices! to bad I only have 3 drones but definetely I would purchase 3 more the thing is getting painted for sunday. I didnt think of using blades on them, with buffs they ll get  near to 80 atks!!  +12 shoots. Even bladeless that unit can oneshoot almost everything.

Youre right with the endless gift but in my very aos game I played against a shooty tzeentch army and deleted her 1st turn and I was traumatized.

The other week I played 10 centigors (160 pts) with blades and got a 31 inches T1 charge, 41 atks generating MW at 5+, so I think theyare a thing to us.

Thanks again for the advice, I will try to get some drones !

80 attacks? I'm not so sure..... even taking into consideration the large footprint of the GUO, it's going to be almost impossible to get all 6 of those into cc.

With +2 attacks for the CA and the locus on them, it's 67 attacks. I can usually get, at best, maybe 4 of these guys in, what with terrain etc hindering movement. So call it 44-45. That's a little more realistic. Still a hefty punch if you manage to get blades on them. It's a nice combo, but the GUO can struggle at times to keep up.

Terrain will slow him down too. Maybe give him the flight artifact?

Also, remember that if they run to get close enough to charge, they can't shoot, and you may need to daisy-chain them out a bit to keep within range of the slower moving GUO. Therefore losing some attack potential.

I have been having a lot of fun with a khorne allegiance list for buffing the beasts.

    It is

    Doombull

    2 units of 6 Bullgors

    1 unit of 3 Bullgors

    30 Reavers

2 Slaughterpriests the one with Axe is general with the ability to generate extra blood tithe when he kills heroes and monsters and slays at least 1 model

2 Blood Secrators 1 with the banner of Rage

    5 Wrathmongers

    Brass Despoilers

I have only played against Ironjawz so far since that is what my main opponent plays. Last time the buffed up bulls killed the 30 man block of ard boyz in one round. 3 of them with just the blood secrator killed the mawcrusha. I definitely think the list will not perform as well against some of the other armies but I cant wait to try it. I used to run a doombull, 3 units of 6 bulls, and 3 ghorgons and a cygor. That was my list almost since the start of Sigmar. This one dishes out even more damage and is what I have been planning since the one story in the Godbeasts book. Has anyone else tried thks sort of thing as well? Any tips for dealing with some of the more shooting heavy armies? The combat armies can be mulched pretty easily by making them kkll the reavers and then piling the bulls in for maximum murder.

If the slaughter priest is your general, then you only have one battle line.....

If I understand your question, it's -1 to SAVES, not "ward" saves which are only applied to damage.

    The Daemon Prince won't.

The abilities on his warscroll aren't reliant on him having a god specific keyword. Mechanically it's a choice that triggers at start of the game. Whatever marks that he may gain after that don't activate additional abilities.

It appears that this is correct. The DP is given a mark to start the game (or not). Whatever mark is assigned gives him an ability, i.e. +1 sv etc. The artifact would give him the ability to receive buffs that apply from having those other KEYWORDS added to him.

Still pretty powerful with the right list....
