  1. I fear few people here have experience with 4k team battles and it will be hard to judge  a list since we don't know what the opponents will field either.

In fact even with a lot of data points and 1v1 battles at 2k points there is a lot of discussion space of what works and doesnt work.

You may have to wing this event at your own judgement :P

I am curious about how picky people can be about counts as models in regards to frost sabers.

I wanted to get some wild wargs and use them as frost sabers but with only two poses I figured I would just convert some. Was either going to do something goofy like gnoblar knights or more edgy and double base something that would look a bit like mortal kombats barakka. With only one model with that cavalry base size in the army I do not think it would be confusing to anyone. Just not sure if looking nothing like the stock model would become a problem.

As long as you stick with warhammer figures (AoS and 40k) there should be no issue. Using LoTR minis isnt allowed in official GW events due to copyright claims. Same with 3rd party miniatures.

Well, Giants are usually portrayed in a rather negative way (from Warhammer to DnD to movies); something new would be to make them smart and sophisticated like their ancestors supposedly were.... would be funny to see them in GA: Order.

I'm sure Damon Lindelof and JJ Abrams are taking notes - such an unnecessary twist could be turned into a franchise!

As much as I would love that, I think many of the ogor-like rumour engines are bits and pieces of the gargants. So i doubt they could fall under Order.

The Lumineth's situation sounds like they go through default eastern enlightenment.  Detachment from emotions and ego  to become one with the realm of light. And of the elimination persona.

The sub-factions sound like they could be interesting.

Off-topic, so I'll add it into a spoiler.

    Spoiler

The enlightenment you describe is mostly a zen buddhist approach and some practices in hinduism as well, but not really the default for 'eastern enlightenment'. As an active practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism myself I think there is a slight mistranslation that even I have fallen victim to in the past, and frankly a common misunderstanding concerning what the practice towards enlightenment is about, because while the practice helps to not be as attached to the ego or emotion, the english word for "detachment" has a different feel/meaning to it then what the Tibetan teachings would suggest.  To not be attached to something just isn't the same as to be detached of something. Where one is in a sense a form of indifference, while the other feels like its like its meaning portrays a constant action to not be associated with these things at all.

As sentient beings, we all have emotion and ego, its always present all the time. A lot of practices try to get rid of the emotion and ego, but this is a difficult approach. Instead, one should try to overcome emotion and ego and in a way tame it. Then once tamed, we become less susceptible to the negative side effects of just letting the ego and emotion do whatever it wants, going from 1 negative pattern into another with only a few positives woven in between.

A good comparison would be if you buy a new shirt for example. For all intents and purposes that is "your" shirt, relatively speaking of course. And while the "your" part is a fabrication of the ego, it has a function to you personally to keep you warm or clean, etc. And there is no issue in having some enjoyment in having/using that shirt. Issues arise however, if, for example, the shirt suddenly goes missing, it rips, it gets destroyed in the laundry, etc, at which point, an untamed ego will immediately get upset and sad for losing something that was 'theirs'. A trained approach would be more along the lines of "That was my shirt, now its not. Oh well. Time to move on."

In Tibetan Buddhism (and other forms of Buddhism) therefor, you are continuously aware that everything, including the shirt and ego, is of temporary nature and constantly changing form. So the "you" you are now is different from the "you" you were 10 years ago, or the "you" you are going to be 10 years in the future. Its a constant flowing stream of change. So, at some point things will cease to have its original function. And that is ok in the grand scheme of things. So in a way, by being less attached to something, your emotions are easier to control and less negative thoughts will arise if stuff does go wrong.

If properly practiced, you can basically re-align your thoughts in such a way that you can have clarity and a positive mindset. Then, when having a clearer and wiser outlook on life (and death), you can use these tools to practice sincere love for all sentient beings.

Regardless, the ego and emotion are necesary tools of being a sentient being. In fact, without the ego there would be no motivation to even practice towards enlightenment in the first place. Also, enlightenment does not have to mean the elimination of persona. The part that makes you "you" is still present in some shape, form and non-form, even after enlightenment, just not in the way it is now, nor in the self centred way our minds are currently like, but still present.

The English language is an amazing tool for communication, but many times it feels the essence of difficult teachings and concepts get lost in translation. The ammount of times I've heard people tell me stuff like "Karma means doing good makes good stuff happen to you, doing bad makes bad stuff happen to you" and stuff such as "meditation is about emptying the mind", it is a bit tiring. Since these are all things carried to the west many years ago by people whom had little understanding of the teachings themselves or did not know how to properly teach them themselves. In the case of Karma for example, karma is mind. Do you have a very positive and happy mindset? You will be more likely to see opportunities and seize them compared to being a pessimist. One of the easiest ways to work towards getting a positive mindset? Practice good morality and help others. Same with meditation. Focusing your thoughts and eliminating unnecesary thought is not the same as no thought.

To get back on topic... Now when linking it back to the Hysh elves, I think, like you said, they got quite a zen buddhist influence to the way they are, where they almost seem like timeless and wise beings, yet, I am sort of missing the expression of love that true enlightenment embodies. I hope there will eventually be an army that sort of captures that essence in some shape or form. Right now it feels like all the elf factions embody a different aspect of the road to enlightenment, where the nurturing aspects are represented in sylvaneth, the connection of consciousness and the body by the idoneth and the practice of wisdom by the  new elves. XD

  5. I would assume that good sub factions would have a huge point cost in that case, kind of to discourage its use, but balance 2k battles if used at all?

I kind of like the reasoning behind it. I personally have also said it before, but if we want more diversity in Age of Sigmar games, the community needs to have more power to balance stuff when necessary. GW is a busy company and don't have time balancing stuff, but on the other hand balancing also isn't their strong suit.

I would love a system where people could take a kind of official exam with GW to access parts of their website to vote for point increase or decreases on every single unit and battalion in the game to either promote or demote the use of certain models and fix meta issues ahead of time.

I know many people hate it. Lots of people seem to like it when they can dominate other players with overpowered builds, but personally, I would like to see the passion aspect of the hobby return more, where people play with the models they like rather than Army X that is good until month Y.

  6. I think many people underestimate the impact of throwing X dice, where X is the number you rolled during the charge and each 4+ is a mortal wound.

Its like they are dealing an average of 3 mortal wounds per unit per charge even before any kind of battle starts. The odds of getting at least 1 amazing charge and wrecking an enemy unit is quite large. Not to mention charging heroes can be horrendous for opponents to deal with.

Well if ever we needed proof of the city of sigmar great squat that is coming those watery cards pretty much confirm the faction as stone dead. Every army covered but cities of sigmar. What a true tragedy for the hobby and the game.

Cities of sigmar is a large faction and warcry cards only fit like 8 different units per card. If they were to handpick favourites and release them in warcry it would likely create an outrage with dissapointed fans because fanfavourite unit X didnt make the cut but unit Y did.

Also a reliable source mentioned a steam punk kind of empire release being worked on. I would assume for the image of warcry GW would prefer those units to represent the cities rather than the current outdated ones.

I don't know why, but it tends to feel like you are trying to dump negative opinions/views as if they are proof or fact to get people riled up? I may be mistaken of course.

Maybe you are dealing with issues in real life and its a spillover effect, but just relax! 😃 If anything, AOS is just a game, nothing to get so worked up about.

On top of that, cities of sigmar is a relatively new side project GW completed in a very short time. If I am not mistaken GW had a fan design the whole book for them? Somebody please correct me if I am wrong.

Either way, the entire tome is a passion project and may not have been considered or worked into other projects since most the stuff we see is being produced waaay ahead of their release schedule.

If COS were to be in warcry the window between the start of the COS tome and the next warcry release may have been too short to be worthwhile for GW.

I just hope the next release is a cities of sigmar army led by Tyrion featuring goat cavalry of a winter theme.

With city of sigmar Ogryns and converted Skaven and Seraphon underlings and all of it organized by the great horned rat and we have everything any AOS player could wish for.

Easy there, baldness in a certain percentage of population in exchange for purity of spirit would be a good outcome. Remember that Teclis during his mortal years was considered a cripple and was in essence an outcast, how much he remembers or carries weight now is unknown to me.

Baldness is represented by 85% of the GW range as well. Ranging from Space Marines to Idoneth to various cultists.

So if purity means to embrace the four armed emperor? I cannot say you are wrong.

Being a bloodthirsty Khorne Berserker? Questionable.

Stealing souls of the living? The only thing pure in spirit is the essence they steal.

Like those artists that cannot draw hands, I am starting to believe a large fraction of GW's sculptors can't sculpt proper hair XD.

I'm building my first 12 gluttons, holy ******, so many special models. Do you guys build all banners (2 beast skull, 2 tribal banner in a unit of 12) ? The unit feels so cluttered with so many special models.

I built 2 of each and 1 of the bruiser or whatever its called. It makes it convenient if you run smaller units some day as well.

  11. Does anyone know the base size of frost sabres? I am going through their scroll and did some calculations and they seem to be quite good for their cost. Deepstriking a big unit can deal quite some damage early on - on average 3 to 4 times as much as an ironblaster. They can potentially delete problematic units early.

On top of that they can be buffed. So depending on their base size and ability to get in range they may be a solid unit. Perhaps even good enough to bring a sabre group of 12.

what do you think? Full video and gnoblars on the community site

I honestly hope it grows on me. The tyrant was brilliant in how it took the existing style. The hunter looks more like a non GW ogor. GW ogors in contrast always have the, relatively, small nose and gut plate. The hunter has that big Brutish nose instead and the gut plate is hidden.

hope it’s just me thoug and everybody else is really excited about him.

Bear trap crossbow is dope though

I personally love that they are working on ogors with different facial expressions and features and think its a huge win. I also like the fact that he is almost fully clothed similar to the tyrant. Kind of curious what his rules look like.

Also... I wonder what that trap will do.trap.png.d15f3dbacc1073b5843ddfd6e9c48a40.png

First said. I don’t often play the rock hard lists. For example haven’t played obr and don’t know anyone who jumped on that train. But leadbelchers for me are very valuable. I don’t leave home without 10 since my first practice games.
don’t play them as a shooting unit tho. Understand they are your rend dealers that can play second wave. And then they will really function as a utility unit.
That’s why I still believe an underguts list with two 10 leadbelcher squads will get some work done. But you will really have to built into that.

All that said I don’t have a stone horn painted yet. The damage and speed he provides will likely knock them out of the list. 😑

Thank you for the feedback! I got a hold of 2 Feast of Bones sets, so I might as well pick up a box of gluttons to build the unused Leadbelcher bits into actual models. I am currently building around 1 or 2 stonehorns, but I love the idea of an underguts army. I guess once everything is built and painted up its time to playtest a bunch to figure out what is more efficient :).

As predicted GWs lowest selling army continues to be its lowest selling army. Kharadron overlords I think are finished as a faction after this. I've seen the stats and they have been rejected by the fan base like no other faction has before. Too futuristic I reckon but dwarves were never the biggest selling faction in the old days either. Should have been a 40k army for sure.

The fact dwarves never been a huge faction in the past was already an issue, but I do have a few friends whom are absolutely crazy about dwarves and love the LotR-esque approach similar to what the old world used to have, but at the same time absolutely reject KO and Fireslayers. One being too futuristic, the other too 'barbaric'. I personally quite like that GW gave a new spin on old fantasy elements and modernised it to a steam punk quality, but I guess that a lot of people seem to want something that is more familiar to the childhood stories they grew up with.

Sometimes I feel like Games Workshop is trying to reinvent the wheel by trying to push out ideas nobody has explored before just for the sake of being original and being able to copyright it, but then completely missing the mark.

I was just coming on to ask about the FAQ and Base Sizes, any rumors of rumors of updates?

I come here and am like -

(Topic) = (Skaven) or (AoS rumors or leaks of Enemy’s of Skaven) then Read.

Anything else, Warcry, computer games, I pass on reading.  I have effectively cured my OCD to limit 1 game system 1 army.  So much less stress.

I am starting to think Skaven dont exist though. I really want an all-eshin release. Maybe a more elite focused Eshin army.
