With the battalion they act like have charged, and thanks to the allegiances they can pile in where they want and 6", so you can make moves as you want in combat phase xD

PLus, Sevireth is pretty good and the mage is decent for his points, and have two or three nasty spells to choose.

Well, those are joining the army soon then! Thanks for the help 😃.

You can try Illiatha addind one more box of Sentinels and Wardens + loreseeker and blademasters. Adding hurakan will be more expensive, but you can try to just fill the battalion with Sevireth+Windmage+2x5 Windchargers, so you can try to harass and get to the objectives fast and then arrive with wardens to hold up those objectives.

That sounds great! I'll put those on my buy list. I love the windmage model, but wasn't sure about his warscroll.

I like the 10 windcharger plan. I wonder how viable they are going to be, though.

It depends. What you already have? What you want to try?

So far I have (on the way): 2 units of wardens, 2 units of sentinels, 1x Dawnriders, 1x Sevireth, 1x Eltharion and 1x Cathallar. I tried to keep it as basic as possible until this release and now don't know what to get first.

So I think 5 or 10 bladelords for the Cathallar may be a good pick, a loreseeker and the scenery?

Originally I was planning to get a second unit of Dawnriders, but perhaps Windchargers can fill the role of objective grabbers.

As people become more familiar playing against LRL, my original concerns about the faction seem to becoming a reality

    - a low level of ability to get out of the deployment zone

    - low ability to do focused damage

    - very low ability the redeploy or correct general deployment errors

I haven't been able to game recently to test this out for myself but what are people's experiences lately?

I think it's better to wait for the new models before we can make a solid statement about it =). They are here soon after all. Right now you are mostly correct.

Yes, that's was also my thinking about the glaives, because they mentioned blades and we have sword masters already, and glaives also would match the more asian-style that the Lumineth have, and we don't have pole arms yet.

Dragons could be zenith, yup. I'm really looking forward to what's going on with the Sun Spirit, the meeting between it and Tyrion was one of the more wonderfully weird stories in our Battletome.

I study Asian war history, and I can't help but see such strong paralels between Lumineth warfare and the things you'd see a historical Korean army, for example, pull off. So I wouldn't put it past them to add more asian-style weaponry.

I thin I've posted this elsewhere and maybe here too... but I too have mixed feelings about the Cathallar model.  I made a stand in (since she wasn't avail yet) out of a Tidecaster, Witch,  water elemental, and a spear from somewhere...  I still >might< get the actual model.  But until then this is my stand in.

Really nicely done! =] Thats a neat conversion you made!

I see, perfect. It’s what I did too, as my second Cathallar. And yeah, you can just use the model without any conversions at all.

I did a few very minor ones with spare parts from Wardens (changed sword arm, slapped a small half moon at the bottom of the staff and added a few tassels).

It’s a really good looking model as Austin said, great that you already have it.

Hopefully you find the freedom at some point to get a Stonemage : ), even if it’s just for fun.

Indeed! =] I plan to add some sentinel bits/shoulder pads, etc. I have quite a lot of idoneth bits, so I may find some stuff among there as well. Wish I had a helmless elven maiden head somewhere, I think it would look amazing on this model.

You can use the model without conversion at all in my opinion.

Also, just so you know the Cathallar model looks significantly better in person than it does through pictures (particularly the GW pictures).  I am not sure why this is, but its kinda crazy how much better it looks not online.  The 360 view is better than the static picture, but doesn't do it justice.

I see! =] I was afraid it may get a bit problematic since the stonemage looks much bigger to me. I was considering doing some head swap or reducing the height a bit, but that awesome gorinto would go to waste XD.

The cathallar just looks out of proportion to me, unlike the other elves in lumineth. Like the hand at the front is almost half the size of the head, lol.

Do you like the Mistweaver model? That’s a good stand in, even without any conversions. And with a few small ones, you can make her easily look almost 100% like a Lumineth.

Surprisingly enough, that is exactly the model I am currently planning to convert as soon as I have spare time. I had one built for ages with the top of the staff missing, so I am now stripping off the arms and head and using spare Lumineth parts. I'm super happy the Cathallar doesn't have an actual weapon load-out, so WYSIWYG works :).

I know I want to build a wind temple-themed army, so trying to avoid stone temple until I know more about the ruleset. I'm self-employed and living off 200$/month (creating content on Youtube & writing full time), so I don't have the financial freedom (yet) to spend money on models simply because I like the look of them. I just love that Stonemage model, lol.

  10. Well, if Teclis does get to spend his days in a faraway holiday retreat, at least the nightmare of carrying it to a game store is over. The new general seems much easier to transport. I have been holding off on buying Teclis simply because I have no idea how you even carry that thing in public transport and the likes.

It is a good example of the situations that make me completely livid at WYSIWYG rules in tournaments -which seems to be the norm where I play. The idea that one would need to buy two (likely expensive) kits in order to legally play the two versions while in practice you would have to put yourself at table level and play "find the differences" to distinguish them is just bonkers.

Just magnetize the quiver. Done. Poses and such should NOT count in WYSIWYG, if so, every slightly converted space marine pose would be unplayable.

    @Kugane

I always suspected the idea that matte varnishes were 'weaker' came from other unrelated products like cars and wood, where (historically) non-glossy finishes could be a pain in the ****** to maintain evenly. I don't think that's even true anymore though, and even then that had more to do with the punishing environmental conditions of stuff that spends most of its life outside subject to the elements.

Edit: TIL apparently TGA censors the word a-r-s-e lol

Also, maybe there used to be a time when varnishes were of inferior quality and gloss was better, but thats not the case anymore nowadays =]. Now if they could only revolutionize the spray varnishes to function in all conditions... Frosting is the most annoying miniature painting thing ever XD.

  13. Biochemist here and I've put varnishes under some stress tests. Gloss varnish being stronger is a myth that has been around for a long time. The only benefit of gloss varnish is that its easy to see if you covered every spot on a model before applying the matt varnish, which again, makes it easy to spot if you covered everything with gloss varnish first. I do find that matte varnish sometimes covers poorly on gloss since it slightly dissolves the gloss layer, so nowadays I just go straight to matte varnish and use a giant brush to cover large areas quickly and evenly, especially areas that are likely to be touched a lot.

On top of that, I haven't found much of a difference between 1 or multiple layers of varnish.

My go-to brand right now for durability is Army painter's anti shine brush on varnish, however Vallejo does well as well. You can get the same varnish from art stores at larger volumes, but it'll cost more than a small bottle, so I just stick with hobby varnishes for now.

Army painter's varnish does sometimes leave a slightly rough/bubbly texture when it dries in crevices, which isn't optimal, so make sure you don't get build up or varnish foam anywhere.

  14. Hey all,

as some of you may know, I have a (somewhat) growing MTG youtube community over at https://youtube.com/KuganeGaming

However, currently I'm starting to consider to do some Warhammer videos, mainly Age of Sigmar. The thing I am considering the most is painting tutorials, does any of you have any suggestions what I could add? =]

I have considered battlereports in a similar fashion that I handle the magic footage, but with Covid being a thing, I have no idea how to properly set that.

Either way! Any tips would be appreciated^^. Perhaps I could stick with Warhammer video games, lol.

  15. Is it too late for pirate vampires though?

On a side note, glad the new warband finally discovered that walking barefoot on a battlefield full of spikes and debris may not be a good plan. Kind of wonder whats up with GW and making bald bare chest, bare feet miniatures XD

So GW seems to run their usual buisness: reate 1-2 new kits, write a book and here it is: the new ARMY. I´m not sold though I immediately looked where I could get an Aleguzzler kit. :D

And then to top it all off, finding out that the ugliest giant variant is the go-to competitive option rules-wise.
