I'm thinking of running 60 blocks with Stabbas (not Spears)...you won't get as many in, but the better "To Hit" roll makes up for it a lot of the time, especially if you are trying to roll as many wound rolls as possible to trigger Mortal Wounds.

I'm considering using Stabbas instead of Spears as well, firstly cos I dont think it makes that much different, but secondly because of our beloved Loonshrine. A units of 60 Stabbas will return as a unit of 30 and "Stabbas" work much better compared to spears in smaller unit sizes.

Could you just dump the loonshrine on top of an objective?  Objectives are not scenery and objectives can be placed on scenery.

It might be big enough to ensure no one can then take that objective. Amazing for something like Battle For The Pass.

Hadn’t thought about it but yeah, you could.  It’s an amazing tool to have for us, the way we can manipulate the board with such a big LOS blocking piece could be quite game changing/breaking at times I think.

    Rockgut or Fellwater Troggoths?

-Insert “why not both” meme here-

I quite like Fellwater Troggoths, they arnt as tanky as the Rockgut but they get the -1 to hit, 2 more attacks in combat (but 1 less rend and damage) and a good short ranged attack.

I would like to pause the discussion for a second and reflect upon something absutely amazing.

Right now there is a lot of discussion about which of a number of good options is the absolute best.  When does that ever happen for a Destruction faction - let alone one comprised of grots and trolls?  Usually the discussion often revolves around squeezing the best use out of mediocre stuff.

    How great is that?!

It’s fantastic! And I’m looking forward to a few weeks time when we have  managed to get some games in to see how our theoryhammer plays out

  5. Agree on the warscroll cards, I used to really, really not like them in the old format. But now I think they are great! And if any changes to warscroll occur, hopefully it’ll be easy enough to just write on the warscroll ourselves with whatever change happened.

It is really difficult to construct lists with Gloomspite Gitz. I love that! A very good indicator that they've got so many good choices, and different ways to play, that you have to pick a direction. Can't just do everything at once.

To that end, I'm actively struggling on deciding whether I want to use Skragrot or not. Is he able to give us a turn 1 bad moon? I'm reading it as a yes, but if it's a no, that'll make the decision for me.

My core is going to be 60 stabbas (with tiny stabbas) to form my battleshock immune spine. They'll fight around center/one other flank. Will go either 2x20 shootas, or 2x5 squig herds depending on whether I need to save points or not. And also squigs are great, so why not.

For the rest of the army, I've got 30 bounderz ready to go, but might just go with one unit of 15, or 3 units of 5. The 15 benefits from Sneaky Snufflers, whereas the 3x5 are far safer, and able to cover multiple fronts simultaneously, which is a regular strategy I employ. Decisions smecisions.

Gonna have one Mangler Squig no matter what I do. Too good! Too cool! Probably a Loonboss on it, but not married to the idea. Are 2 manglers too much?

The real brainwracker is whether I want to go heavily into magic or not. I usually forgo the whole magic phase in favour of more troops, but with such good spell lores.. Well.

    Send help. Going mad!

No, turn one moon isn’t possible Unfortunatley, as the command ability says “before you roll the dice to determine how far the Bad Moon” and you don’t start rolling until turn 2, so the earliest you can use the command ability is turn 2.

  7. What do people think about running multiple 20 strong units instead of big blobs? I remember Nick’s army that won a Heat last year or the year before did something to that effect. It probably misses out on making the most out of the buffs that can be stacked on them but uses the grots in a more block, defensive role to cover the harder hitting units. What do we think is a better way to run our little grots?

With the book in hand, has anyone rethinked their way of building the army?  😊

The book has so much potential for different builds I’m finding it hard to work out a list I wanna stick with, I still think grot heavy with squig support is the way to go though.

Small thing I just noticed about the Gobbapalooza warscrolls, none of them have the HERO keyword (though they get called 'heroes' several times in the product description and some are Wizards (and unlike other non-Hero Wizards, such as Doomfire Warlocks, operate as single models not a unit). I guess that's so they don't take up all your Hero slots.

Also the Wizards amongst them dont get Mystic Shield or Arcane Bolt just their Warscroll spell.

Anyone have the Battletome yet and have the points for them / the Gobbapalloza battalion to hand?

240 for the models, 110 for the battalion mate. It’s nice they have them the -1 to hit mechanic like hero’s get as well.

I'm thinking the madcap shaman will be the better default shaman as cheaper, access to artefacts and can still double cast spells.

I'm currently working on my list which will be as follows.

    Loonking 260pts

    Loonboss on giant squig 110pts

    Madcap shaman moppit 80pts

    60 stabba, 9 nets, poking spears 360pts

    6 squig herds 70pts

    6 squig herds 70pts

    15 squig hoppers 270pts

    15 squig hoppers 270pts

    15 boinggrot knights 300pts

    5 sneaky smugglers 70pts

    Squig stampede 90pts

    1950pts

Loonkings 220 points mate, like the look of this though.

  11. On the topic of lists... I have been scribbling away thinking about it and here’s the one I have come up with and on paper I really like the look of it. Let’s hope it works when the actual book is out! What do we think?

    Skragrott the Loonking - General

    Madcap Shaman

    Loonboss

Loonboss on Mangler Squig with that Doppleganger Cloak

    40 Stabbas - Battleline

    40 Stabbas - Battleline

    5 Loonsmasha Fanatics

    5 Loonsmasha Fanatics

    5 Shroom Fanatics

    5 Sneaky Snufflers

    10 Boingrot Bounders

    12 Squig Herd - Battleline

    2000 points on the nose

I actually really like the colour scheme on these trolls, any ideas how I might achieve a similar effect? I'm thinking starting from a pale base colour, either grey or white and building up thin layers of washes/ thinned paints maybe.

Looks like a wash over white to me, maybe Druchi Violet, then drybrush with pallid Wych flesh.

What do we think about the new shootas? At 130 points for 20 with no discount at full unit, I'm unsure if they're worth it over the cheaper, tankier regular stabbas.

    Thoughts?

Basically gonna use them to sit by the Loonshrine/on a backfield objective and maybe plink away some shots at range. But I see what you mean. I may end up swapping them out for a little stabba unit with the swords eventually.

Did anyone hear anything of note in the battle report?

Errr what can I remember... (or half remember)

Loonshrine recycles half the unit size of a Grot unit on a dice roll ( I assume s 4+) . There is a battalion that allows bringing back of the whole unit size.

    Mangler Squigs now FLY.

    Cave Squigs are now 2a/4+/3+/-1/1

The Sneaky Snufflers give a unit wholly with 12” +1 attack if they themselves don’t move.

Loonboss on Mangler had a trait that let it retreat after combat on a 4+.

Fanatics have changed. They no longer charge in your opponents turn. They can still hide in units, when they appear and charge in your turn they are attivated at the start of the combat phase before anything else. They are also d6 damage as well I think.

The new mushroom fanatics block LOS if a unit has to draw a line wholly through the unit (or something like that). They also provide a buff of some sort but can’t remember.

I’m sure there is plenty more.

I'm definitely going troggoths probably with a couple of large grot units for bodies. @PlasticCraic had some great tactics for troggoths inside grot units iirc?

Honestly though this just ticks everything I want in an army 😍

I think that’s referring to having Fellwaters behind or near Grot Netters for a sweat -2 to hit in combat against them, as well as being able to strike over the top of them :)

If you buy a bunch of these, you want them to look unique right? It's great, see how there are 10 hoppers pictured and some people still think there are 10 to a set of sprues, despite the fact that there are clearly 2 sets of duplicate bodies

Yes clearly 5 different bodies, but parts to build at least 10 different variations as of the pictures, which means with every box, we will be left with at least 5 waste squig faces, or however its seperated, at least to my understanding. Which to me is a waste.

Doesnt take away from how fantastic the models are though

Hey all, me and the fiance are thinking about doing a Sylvaneth army and I simply ADORE Kurnoth Hunters and Dryads, could a army with say 6 squads of kurnoth hunters with a mixture of scythes and bows work? Or are Kurnoth hunters just not worth using?

Kurnoth Hunters are amazing and 6 units of them would most importantly look amazing! The only variant thats been hit is the bows, the sword and scythes are still as good as ever.

  18. Unrelated question, can treesong set off Roused my magic twice? One from within the spell itself setting it off, then again following normal Roused by Magic from the nearby wood? Im getting conflicting opinion as some think as it automatically triggers Roused by magic, then it doesnt go off as it would normally when a spell is cast near a wood. My interpretation is that even though the spell immediatly sets is off, that doesnt prevent rolling the 5+ to set it off as it would otherwise.

Is "Blood for the Blood God" deck pre new extensions? If it is, it is outdated: the reavers have a lot of better new cards now.

It is.  But I dont have the latest packs yet so rolled with it.  Still getting my head round these cards let along two whole new packs worth! No idea
