    Anethum, Branchwych of The Graveroot Wargrove, Sylvaneth from The Harrowmark in the Realm of Death.

    Most of the Harrowmark is virtually impenetrable forest: Seemingly endless miles of dark, tangled, twisted and unnatural forest. It is a corrupted land: the dead trees are warped by dark-magic, skull-formed rock formations and other symbols and motifs of death are everywhere. Things live in these forests: malignant, spiteful things. It is a brave soul that ventures under the dark bowers, brave or foolish, as few who attempt to navigate the winding pathways ever emerge again. The forests are shaped by the death magic that permeates them and the forest spirits that dwell within are equally affected.

    This warband is intended as a small group of NPCs for The Harrowmark: a maximum of 100 Renown for AoS Skirmish. I plan on getting up to three boxes of models and a Hero. This Branchwych, Kurnoth Hunters, Spite-Revenants and Dryads.

    This idea owes a huge debt to Vikingpainting

    I started work on the changes but I did hit a few snags. Despite their similarities there are a number of differences to how a campaign plays out. In Skirmish it's super fast and although your Warband starts incredibly small it can be dizzyingly large after just a few games. Campaigns are also built around 6 games rather than being ever ongoing. So I've not been too sure on the best way to proceed.

    In our current AoS Skirmish campaign we started at 35 Renown but we have halved the Renown gained after each game, including the random bonuses from the Triumph table. It has slowed down the warband size increase a little but maybe not enough for my taste.

    I also feel there is a bit of a problem in rewarding success: giving the warband that wins a game more Renown than to looser means they are more likely to win the next game, so you start to get into a loop of success breeding success. :( I'm thinking about introducing fixed Renown increases for our next campaign - maybe with a small random factor on top...

    Sure!
    The legs and torsos are Empire (Freeguild) Greatswords. The heads are Wood Elf Wildwood rangers, the arms and guns are 40k Adeptus Mechanicus Skitarri Rangers, the pouches are from Dwarf Thunderers.

  4. Elatine Jast and the Realmgate Wardens patrol the Realmgates of Shyish, checking for corrupted gates and scouting for signs of Chaos incursions. They have been in the wilds of The Harrowmark for a very long time now, only returning to the Free Cities to resupply when they have to. But they harbour a dark secret: They have been exposed to the corrupting but subtle influences of The Changer of Ways. They do their best to hide their corruption and continue their work but it is getting more difficult as the months go by...

  5. Mossblade the Knight of Spades - Crypt Haunter Courtier. 

     

    Steed galloping over green fields / loping barefoot under the dark bowers.

    Sun glinting on silvery armour / filthy claws and fetid breath.

    Lance crashing into the shield of a worthy foe; a fellow knight / skull "helmet" smashing the ribs of a terrified, defenceless victim.

    Beastman Ungor head, skulls on belt from Ork Nobz, right hand from Orruk Brutes, crown made from 2 Plaguebearer heads chopped up, shield from Ogre Ironguts looted gear, greenstuffed "royal regalia", horned skull on back from Grey Knights (? I think...). Base made of chopped up Citadel Woods.

    The Court of Spades

    The Mordants of Hunger Woods are wretched creatures that dwell in the vast dark and twisted forests that surround Wortbad in the Harrowmark. The Kyng of Spades and his court are just as twisted as their home. In their madness they see themselves as a dynasty of “The Blood Royale” - a warrior-king and his retinue. They see the dark forest as their castle and it’s surrounding lands. The mad king of a hidden court; Mudshroud, The Kyng of Spades is an Abhorrant Ghoul King who sees the dark and twisted forest as his mighty castle and it's surrounding lands. His rotted retinue seen through his eyes are a band of mighty heroes and fair maidens, wise and just and pure of heart. The truth is dark and unpleasant.

I attached some of the images that served as a reference to my recent model efforts. Though I feel that the total grimness and hopelessness of some of Blanche's works fit the 40k universe perfectly (and Inq28 consequently) I would like to point out that, to me,  AoS is a peculiar setting where aspects of both high and dark fantasy cohesist (or at least this is how I envision it) and I feel that both deserve being reflected in AoS28 projects if that happen to be the intention of the author.

    I'm right with you on this @Hagen - the campaigns that I have been playing are very much influenced by the images and ideas you have posted, and though they may not look like AoS28 games I feel that the ethos and aims of my little group's gaming is exactly the same: the things that happen to the "little people" not seen in the main plots, but still in the fantastical and outlandish settings of the Mortal Realms.

  10. The crew of the Ogresun. Pirates of Ghur.

    Kaptain Salty Ogbad and the Ogresuns were a Mordheim warband for years before they became adventures in the Mortal Realms. Their backstory has been updated a little but their misadventures continue. They are about to embark on a new one inspired by John Blanche's Voodoo Forest setting - flying ships, floating islands and endless tangled forests will play a big part.
