I played a 2k test game against my fiancée using a real hodge podge collection of Lumineth stuff.  I pulled out what I think is my meanest Stormcast stuff, and ran into Ellania and Ellathor in a bad way.

At 285 points they are steep, but you have to kill them with ranged mortals, or make sure you kill them in combat before they get to swing.  If you don’t fulfill either of these requirements they just don’t die... and then they go Nuclear.

For the first three turns they stood in Combat with a Tauralon, Gryphcharger and 10 Sequitors.  The Lord Arcanums had to leave to deal with a Loreseeker on my back objective and I wasn’t closing the warlord kill I was trying to get from the Twins at all so abandoned that idea.   They then proceeded to Finest Hour through the last of the Sequitors and teleport to an objective on Turn 5 that my Warlord Tauralon and 3 Evocators were sitting on fighting Lyrior Uthralle on his last 4 wounds.  They cut half of the wounds out of both units with their laser beam and finished the Tauralon, while Lyrior helped take the Evocators to one left and outnumber for the objective.

Im putting this here because I hear a lot about how they seem too expensive, but I have a really good feeling about them.  I’ve designed a couple Alumnia lists they’ll fit a lot better into, with Heroic Healing and all the CP Lumineth can generate they were always on a 2+/5+ and were a great spot for Protection of Hysh because they’ll likely outlive everything in their bubble before teleporting out, unless your opponent pours everything into them which Bladelords can really help with.

I had two questions though.  Can they really automatically come back to life on D6 if they die as long as they fight in the fight phase?  It’s sort of worded as such, but seems way too awesome, we laughed and said let’s have it work this way until the internet tells us it doesn’t; I’d still think they were extremely powerful without this (after rereading it like 7 times it doesn’t work this way, looks like they need to be alive to be removed from the table) Also, can I make them the general and get a free CP on 4+?  With Lyrior and a Calligrave in the Shrine I was able to push Commands without even thinking about it, even more might be too many!

Im glad someone else is realising this. All of my lists in 3.0 so far have had them and emerald lifeswarm to become an unkillable mess if not seriously targeted by round 1-2 minimum.

Most definitely, there's been some exciting changes to the game! :)

I am by no means an expert in AoS, so I cannot foretell how the new rules will affect our list building. Overall, I believe that the new points and list building system are going to be healthy for all factions. Maybe we'll be able to shake off our NPE stigma. Myself, I'm finally going to try a non-Teclis Iliatha list.

However, as of late, I have been getting fed up with the calculator to add up all the points any time I wanted to indulge in list building, so I built myself a very basic calculator tool in Excel based on the GHB points compilation by AoS Shorts, with a personal touch to reflect the restrictions on unit limits. I thought I'll leave it here, since it may be useful to some of y'all as well. Please keep in mind it was intended as a personal way of drafting LRL-only armies really quick, so it's a first version that doesn't include great nations, artifacts, batallions, or the possibility to include allies. Feel free to use and modify it to your liking!

But it looks to be doubling down on the OP things for LRL. Boosting sentinels to 30 from 20 is great for command efficiency. Teclis was already quite hard a model to kill, and now heals 4 wounds a turn, so if you aren't set up to take him out fast, you simply are never killing him. MSU boosts teclis' magical nuke. It also boosts his ability to force opponents to double the cost for command abilities, which hardcore screws a lot of armies now that command points go away and are such a big deal.

Everything is, obviously, pending points costs, but the head rules dude for AoS also really really likes elves.

That said, you don't have to make LRL OP. It's not like 2.0 seraphon where you can oopsie into OP builds by just throwing units together, LRL require a bit of thought behind the list making process. If you avoid teclis and a few other units, you'll probably be fine.

Whilst i agree, i dont think you'll see squads of 30 sentinels for 2 reinforcements slots.

Also 1500 is likely to be more main stream and teclis likely to see points at 760 removes him from 1500 games.

Theres too much up in the air at the moment.

Not very familiar with AoS but a buddy's looking to getting into LRL and is rethinking it due to claims of OPedness.

Would anyone be so kind as to give me a quick summary of why LRL are considered OP? Much obliged in advance.

no point really explaining any of it when sigmar 3.0 will change the vast majority of pros and cons, OP'ness.

Man...no army looks as good uniformly painted as Lumineth do. Awesome job @mjay9090.

On less optimistic note, I do agree with @Yondaime that the removal of warscroll battalions and new coherency rules have cemented Wardens and Sentinels as the go-to core of list building, even more so than before. Stoneguard, and to a certain extent Windchargers, just dont feel right outside of their respective temple battalions, to say nothing of their mathematical effectiveness.

I'm very curious to see where Lumineth land with new points...I could see Teclis going WAY up since he's a hero and monster, as well as an increased discrepancy between the normal Spirit of the Mountain and Avalenor, since he's also a hero+monster. I think as a competitive faction Lumineth stand to do very well in the new edition as long as they aren't pointed exorbitantly high.

Teclis is expected to go up to 760 points like the other characters to stop people taking them in 1500 point games.

So having read through the 3.0 core rules, there are some cool changes that effect Lumineth.

    - They changed the section about 'most wizards" having access to Mystic shield and Arcane Bolt, to "All Wizards know the arcane bolt and Mystic Shield Spells"

So our Vanari wizard champions can finally have access to both arcane bolt and Mystic shield. Pretty awesome since mystic shield is now back to being a +1 to save, not reroll 1's.

    Miscasts are back!

An unmodified casting roll of 2 is a miscast, and your wizards spell automatically fails, they then suffer d3 mortal wounds. Additionally, for multicasters, if you miscast a spell, you cannot cast any further spells with that wizard in that hero phase.

    Something else super powerful

The "Magnificent" bonus for using certain core battalions allows you to choose several additional enhancements for your army, artefacts, spells, triumphs.

The 'Spell lores Enhancement' is of particular interest to us, in that it allows every wizard in your army to learn 1 additional spell choosing from any spell lores they have access too. I first thought this must be my own misreading, as it seemed super powerful compared to the artefact enhancement only giving 1 additional artefact for 1 hero. But in the core rules, on the side bar, they clarify it by underling "allows every Wizard to know" 1 more spell from a spell lore.

Also mystic shield can now be used to scare off potential charges since its D3 within 3inch rather than just D1.

I also thought the spell lores enhancement must be a typo. Its far too strong for a army of wizards.

You need one more battleline, right now the list is not valid

It is when its not matched but we play with points anyways,

but then just add 5 more horses remove Arch kavalos add the nightmare predator

    Question still stands
