anyone have any tips for hobby fatigue? I still got 8 sentinels to paint before my next ten wardens, and I am not looking forward to it...

I try to have two things on the go all of the time, I apply the same to reading  and work too. One thing ‘serious’ and one thing fun.  Serious doesn’t actually need to be serious, but could be the harder choice. I’ve been treating my elves as the serious option lately (so much trim :( ) and rebasing my ww2 15mm for a new game as my fun hobby. It’s good to do something low key and still feel productive. And stops me getting grumpy at something that is meant to be for fun lol.

They're coming along well.  Red and Green are complimentary, so a bit of green on the base should offset the red nicely.  Do you have a realm in mind for your Lumineth, as that may give you ideas for the basing.

    Thanks!
No I don't really know much about the setting, these are my first age of sigmar models, and haven't really looked into it aside from whats in the battletome. - but I think the green is the correct choice as far as colour goes.

The African influence is a great idea, they really do have that feel with the teardrop shields and spears.

  3. Hello everyone.

Just thought Id post an update on my dawnrider build, two completed so far - pending the basing, unsure what to do for these yet.
Maybe running across a lush field? Green would go nicely here.
I need to buy some paint, but the white gems may still be turned into green gems. as per the conversation further up the thread.

Yup, the painting and assembly of the Dawnriders is nightmarish - so much so that I'm probably stopping at my initial 5, even though I've had a lot of lists in mind that would have included 10. They're that bad.

For my part, I've done mine in sub-assemblies - horses alone, then the riders, then the shield as separate components. For the riders, I've tried doing them with one leg attached and one leg detached, or with both legs detached (the way they're designed means you can't attach both legs before putting them on the horses, unless you file down the notches they've positioned where the legs should meet the saddle).

Whichever way you do it, it's rough. Attaching the riders in the saddle tends to leave gaps between the legs and pelvis, and depending on how you've positioned the arms you inevitably run into issues aligning the reins with the tassels and the bit with the horse's mouth (possibly snapping off the reins from the rider's hand in the process). Also, you need to be careful how you position the arm holding the banner on the banner bearer - I thought I had mine perfectly positioned, but when final assembly came it turned out I had it tilted slightly, making it impossible to attach the right leg, and forcing me to remove the arm and re-position it.

I've still got 2 to go, so the verdict is still out, but I'm honestly coming around to just painting the damn things fully assembled. There'll be more gaps and areas where the paint job is a bit rough, but trying to assemble them after they're fully painted is just maddening. If anyone's got any tips or tricks they've come up with to make the process easier, please let me know. I'm doing my Eltharion right now just to take a breather from fiddling with horses, because I was growing concerned for my own sanity 🤬

I've done the same but with  fully assembled legs, and I'm paying for it now. I did a dry fit pre paint, and everything slid into place ok, with a little flex and convincing, but the paint on each component has been enough just to really ruin that approach.
I had a failure with a leg joint and some damage on my second rider, and needed a little putty to fill the split from forcing it too much - it was very silly and I'm not happy with myself at all.  Luckily its the rider with the low spear, so some sanding and correct colour should hide it well enough under his elbow.

I'm in a little deep now, and think ill need to cut the notches off of the horses capes to get the riders to sit down so their feet are at the correct height - not so concerned about them sitting off the saddle a little, as I think its smore important to have their feet at the correct spot - but still , wind is out of my sails for sure.

    Happy final release day everyone!

Back when we got the first Stone Guard pictures, there was a lot of conversion talk. One popular option was using the Bull faces on top of the helmets as masks. So I tried to do just that, and I think it works out pretty well!

    IMG_20200918_214937__01.jpg.b11d9443e3e1f1e9d092845a55344425.jpgIMG_20200918_214944__01.jpg.9cc32118714271fc44cbdf83ec62cd72.jpg

This is fantastic. A purchase of this box was pending wether this idea was going to look ok, 3rd party helmets just are not quite right. On any model.
Also the diamond picks are great! I was worried that the mallets felt a little animaniacs, but these look like actual warhammers.
I love the cow imagery and this works so well.
Dam im all keen again. Going to go and paint.

You aint!  That sums me up as well.  I've always liked the idea of a fantasy mini game.  I glanced at Warmachine/Hoards, Runewars, Frostgrave... even Wild West Exodus.  They all looked cool, but didn't grab me.  I always shied away from GW stuff due to price and sprues.  Then Legion came out... sucker!  I'm in like Flynn.   And when the LRL box was previewed, I pretty much went Heck Yeah.  I do wish AoS stuff was less expensive like Runewars is/was, but ce la vie.... but I will say the models, while a pain in the but to build sometimes and paint, they are very well sculpted.

oh matey, they're so very expensive!
not complaining too much, as they are lovely models. but having played and collected 15mm WW2 and historical for many years. Its a shock to drop so much money on 5 little men - but I still do 😅

Here is a little WIP of a dawnrider for fun - he'll get his spear this evening.

How popular do you think Lumineth is currently? I’m seeing GW advertise the army fairly hard with the posts on the FB site and my local shops sold out of the entire range very quickly.   It def looks like despite the controversy it could be more popular than armies that sold badly like Fyreslayers and Idoneth.

    Hello 👋

obviously this is just my experience. But I can’t be the only person to do so, but I had zero interest in any of the age of sigmar range until the lumineth were released. I was browsing for a new painting project, and the dawnriders came up in my search. A few months later and I have the starter box and a few new releases on the way! Stunning models and I think they will be popular with painters.

the game sounds fun enough and I think I’ll try and play a few games once we’re out of lockdown in Melbourne.

    • In that respect, I think the Swordwoman won't be from a River Temple. Her armour looks more like Vanari Armour (I think the River Temple will also get some special armour like the Alarith) and she doesn't have any kind of River symbol on her as far as we can tell. All Alarith units feature the mountain symbol prominently. The banner looks like a tower or something similar. She could be a loreseeker for example, or another type of Vanari. The Underworld bands receive a ton of cards, so one having something to do with River, doesn't have to mean much. Could be totally wrong of course, lol.

I really hope the Swordswoman is just a generic Vanari General!

    Ahhh!!  Makes more sense now....

8 Nations... now, with the LRL recent release, how looooong will we have to wait for another set of Nations, ie the Tyronic side?  The next battle tome?  They come out what, 2-3 years?  That's a long wait!!!

4 Temples found in any Nation.  Thus an Alarith Stonemage, or a Thalarith Zenithmage,  or Orealith Windmage.... could be from any nation.  Hmmm I can dig it.

Vanari is to War/warriors, as Scinari is to....  Preists/??

Now, with the Vanari, theres another keyword: Auralan...  And only with the Sentinels and Wardens..I've not found a "meaning " of it in the battle tome yet.  Does this relate to Temples or Nations?

    Hello!

I could be wrong here, but 'Auralan' just looks to be the name of the unit, in the same way that each unit has its name as a 'keyword' in the battletome.
Its not on its own as keyword, its either  'auralan wardens' or 'auralan sentinels'
I guess so it can be the target of a specific ability if required?

But I think you're correct in noting no spell or ability calls them out specifically, as yet.
"Vanari is to War/warriors, as Scinari is to....  Preists/??" - surely so :)

Thanks for all the sub-assembly ideas for the Dawnriders. I’m about to try one this week and not gonna lie.... a wee bit scared of mold lines and painting....  How do they compare to LoE?  He was a challenge but I kept him in three or so subs.

While the mould lines look shocking, they are really quite soft and sit proud of everything else, so come away nicely.

just got to keep that knife sharp :) - I found them easier to clean up than LoE, there was just so much more of it on the Dawnriders.

I broke both of his arms off while painting, clever.

I originally only planned with 5 in my trial 2,000 list, and I'm so happy that I did that. I have 15 though ..., and likely will paint an additional 5 in the future (so 10 altogether), once I can muster the strength lol. I think, that might work better in the end.

I agree though, they will look very cool once finished. If you really make 20, that would look awesome, I'm sure. The models are really nice. Lots of cool details and very dynamic.

Well hopefully there are some deals on ebay as punters become frustrated by them!

This is my list currently, its purely around models I like. Keen to do the stone guard with cut down cow helms, maybe a plume on top if the rules require a similar height? I dunno.

    Leaders
    Scinari Cathallar (140)
    - General
    Alarith Stonemage (130)
    The Light of Eltharion (220)

    Battleline
    10 x Vanari Auralan Wardens (120)
    10 x Vanari Auralan Wardens (120)
    10 x Vanari Dawnriders (260)
    10 x Vanari Dawnriders (260)

    Units
    5 x Alarith Stoneguard (100)
    - Stone Mallets
    10 x Vanari Auralan Sentinels (140)
    10 x Vanari Auralan Sentinels (140)

    Behemoths
Alarith Spirit of the Mountain (340)

Endless Spells / Terrain / CPs
    Hyshian Twinstones (30)

Well done with the Dawnriders! I painted two of them mostly finished - and they and I barely survived the process. 3 to go including the banner "shudders".

Thanks, they're the reason I picked up the box.
but you're right, they are hard on the soul.

I had grand ideas of building  two units of 10 , (yet to play a game, so this might be a terrible idea)  but they are a huge amount of work - but would be very cool  once completed.
