I wonder how he will fit into the story if it’s supposed to be alarielle

Actually a very interesting connection. Alarielle trapped him inside an unbreakable chaos repellent ruby in End Times, still not aware how he got out (kind of inverse Morathi - Slaanesh)

  2. Good catch! I wanted them for their lore about poetry and culture, seemed Hyshy

I wonder tho if there wd actually be fun drama in a post Bret / post Druchii alliance including and despite such ancient beef!

so with that in mind - which dukedom(s) would have had most historic enmity w DE? Generally coasts, but is there anything more specific out there?

Gotcha, though a point to consider, brets also disliked dark elves due to their habitual piracy and raiding of the brets armada and coastline, so you may want to make them descendants from one of the inland provinces of Bretonnia in your lore

Oddly enough they are! Vaguely thinking of them as Brionne / Parravon

  4. It’s a long story but basically the surviving humans have tired of being manipulated and used as mercenaries and auxiliaries by the Lumineth and have teamed up with various tattered groups of non Lumineth aelves of Hysh who also don’t trust Teclis’s children. It’s an alliance of the defeated, desperate and opportunistic. It has however been orchestrated in the shadows by Mysterious Entities

I’m now thinking Cities ruleswise with the knights and Bret heroes being SCE, the commoners being Freeguild, and City Aelf and DoK back up (the DoK are something else lorewise

EDIT - on elves and Brets. Brets and WE were of course buddies in 5th and much less so in 6th but still unavoidably connected, while various places reveal HE influence. But my Hysh ‘Brets’ are mostly working with ‘Dark Elves’ plus Shadow Warriors. It’s going to be a fraught, divided, suspicious force for sure!

  5. Latest list (themed to be sorta AoS Bretonnian with miscellaneous / mercenary aelven back up)

    LEADERS

    Sorceress, General, Hawk-eyed

    Sorceress, Adjutant

Lord (actually Lady) Arcanum on Tauralon

    Lord Aquilor, Patrician's Helm

    UNITS

    10 Corsairs, handbows

    10 Darkshards (Adjutant goes here)

10 Executioners, Honoured Retinue (General goes here, obviously)

    10 Freeguild Crossbowmen

    10 Freeguild Handgunners

    10 Shadow Warriors

2 Fulminators (Aquilor hangs out with these)

3 Evocators on Dracolines (Arcanum hangs out with these)

    10 Doomfire Warlocks (allies)

    Not a duardin in sight...!

  6. I'm developing a Mixed Order force representing descendants of Bretonnia in Hysh with various (non-Lumineth) aelven allies - can put up lore / poss  lists here if of interest! Model wise contains very few Bret models, just Questing Knights and a few archers, mostly Mordheim / Empire / DoW humans plus various aelves

  7. Side note - of all the oddnesses around Lumineth and their allies - Idoneth allowed, Cities not, though in background Cities seem to be fairly common and Idoneth more exceptional - no Phoenicium, fellow Hysh aelves, is at first glance surely the oddest

Maybe could be rationalised as Phoenicium suspecting lingering Slaaneshi taint in Lumineth? Bad blood resulting from Spirefall? I dunno

More deeply random and obsessive Bret thoughts -

Louen Orc Slayer is of the House of Bastonne, descended from Gilles le Breton and his son Louis the Rash, first crowned king of Bretonnia (Altho some newer stuff may make Gilles king too, I forget) and ancestor of Duke Bohemond Beastslayer of Bastonne in End Times setting we all know.

Note the names. Louis the Rash - Louen Orc Slayer - Louen Leoncoeur. I currently infer from this that Bretonnia actually only had two strictly hereditary royal dynasties, the Bastonnes and the Couronnes, and that the latter inherited through the female line (hence recurrence of family forename Louen). This further contextualises and explains at least three attempts at usurpation by the proud, bitter rulers of Mousillon (Merovech, Maldred, Mallobaude).

Also, Jules the Just hasn’t done his honourable jousting reforms yet so Bret nobles are all psychos who duel and kill each other for fun. The Border Princes have been colonised by Bret crusaders and there are loads of bloodthirsty land hungry knights errant spoiling for trouble.

Addendum - I have remembered a king of a third dynasty, Aquitaine, another Lou, Louis the Righteous, the Red Duke’s brother (not sure if older or younger)

on the whole it seems likely that the Bretonnian Crown, like the Imperial one, passes around the leading noble families. But I still like to think this is through a distinctive Bretonnian line of hereditary descent (including the female line, so more English than French)...

  9. Latest Misthavn list:

    LEADERS

    Dreadlord on Black Dragon (flanking)

    Exile Blade & Repeater Crossbow

    Sorceress

    Narcotic: Glatch Ink

    Freeguild General

    General

    Wily Foe

    Shadowsilk Armour

    Sorceress

    Assassin

    Adjutant

    UNITS

    10 Corsairs, handbows, flanking

    10 Dark Riders, flanking

    10 Darkshards

    5 Drakespawn Knights, flanking

    10 Executioners

    20 Freeguild Crossbowmen

    20 Freeguild Handgunners

    10 Greatswords

    Honoured Retinue

    10 Shadow Warriors, flanking

    Balewind Vortex

= 2000. Lots of aelves and humans on foot to spare and tempted in the longer term to find a way to increase knights to 10 but think will do for now!

  10. I have semi accidentally collected a Cities army which since Broken Realms I’ve been envisaging as a Misthavn force. While I’m still quite drawn in that direction the opposite idea struck me today - what if I stopped the agonised proxying, and instead leant into a unique concept and Mixed Order possibilities?

    The result is -

    Allegiance: Order

    Realm: Hysh

    Battlemage on Pegasus

    General, Strategic Genius

(My classic Tzarina on an old, small manticore)

    ***
    Bretonnian Lord

    Steed, Relic Blade

    (My Dogs of War general)

    ***
    Mistweaver Saih

(Probably old Isabella von Carstein or Neferata or one of various metal elf heroes)

    ***
    Tenebrael Shard

(An old Dark Elf Assassin or Wardancer or other elf hero)

    ***
    Loremaster

    (Mordheim Elf Ranger)

Then units, mostly actually WYSIWYG -

    5 Questing Knights

    ***
    10 Swordmasters

    ***
    10 Handbow Corsairs

    ***
    20 Freeguild Crossbowmen

    ***
    20 Freeguild Handgunners

(miscellaneous Mordheim black powder armed guys)

    ***
    10 Darkshards

    ***

    10 Freeguild Greatswords

(miscellaneous Mordheim great weapon armed guys)

    ***
    5 Doomfire Warlocks

    ***
    10 Shadow Warriors

Extra command point brings this up to 2000.

How fun / terrible do these guys look? I also own five more warlocks and a lot more Dogs of War / Mordheim / miscellaneous aelves and humans who could serve as Corsairs / Freeguild Guard / Shadowstalkers /Flagellants etc

EDIT: tempted to swap the command point in for a Witch Hunter and maybe a Maelstrom? :)
