  1. That’s what I’m saying, I hope the new edition will give us the wiggle room we need to do both and not have to choose if we fo Frenzy or Court CA! One can hope anyway
  2. So basically 40k’s system? If that’s the case I hope they give us the game size command points, like 12 for 2000pts. That would give plenty of Frenzies and give us some breathing room, and let other Courts shine. My problem with some courts was, why use their ability over Frenzy?
  3. Whoa, I never even thought of throwing the ghouls up the board! Though I’m a little worried that this is all gonna be irrelevant if/when they take away battalions in 3.0... I know its rumors at the moment but I’m a tad worried.
  4. I have come up with an interesting list that sort of encompasses all I want to do with the army. Feast Day Abhorrent Archregent (General: Dark Wizardry, the Dermal Robe) AGKoRTG (Spectral Host, Gruesome Bite) 10 Ghouls 10 ghouls ~Royal Mordants~ Vargulf 6 Flayers 3 Horrors 40 Ghouls Charnel Throne Extra CP total: 1970 My question: is the extra CP mandatory, or should I cut it for a Crypt Ghast Courtier to go with the 40 ghouls to ensure muster/frenzy? Update: the other alternative is running them as Hollowmourne. The difference is I run one less squad of Ghouls because the Horrors I have to take become battleline, the Mordant Varghulf I take becomes the General (because Graverobber is better on him) and he takes the Corpsefane gauntlet. This allows me access to the Hollowmourne command ability, and furthermore lets me take the extra CP and the Crypt Ghast while also sort of playing Smash Bat.
  5. So with that being said, what should I start building towards? Royal Mordants? I know I want a ATKoRTG and ghouls on the field (maybe not as many as Morgaunt field). Also it sounds like having two Varghulfs is a pretty solid choice? I’ve also heard about Smash Bat strategy... is it better to Hollowmourne for that or Feast Day and have the V pile in again? Also now its pretty mandatory to summon an extra Varghulf instead of 20 ghouls? And do I send the first Varghulf with the Flayers or do I have the summoned one be near them? It seems like the Varghulf from the battalion can’t keep up with the Flayers to give them frenzy, unless I’m missing something. (Edit: I confused the range of Frenzy and Muster. 12” from the Varghulf for Frenzy is a much easier ask.) It seems pretty complicated to someone still newer to the army.
  6. What do you mean no extra ghouls? Were we getting extra ghouls to begin with? Would a Feast Day list with Royal Mordants be strong enough? Also is the goal to keep the Varghulf in close with the Flayers?
  7. Hey everyone! It’s been a while. I never was able to get the time to build my FEC between my move and jobs. But I’m looking to get back into it. I see recently the Feast Day Ghoul Patrol list has kind of fallen out of favor. Are there any ways to still play with a bunch of ghouls, maybe include a Varghulf in the main list instead of summoning it in? I see Royal Mordants sees some play nowadays. Thanks!
  8. Serious question here. I was reading some Tomb Kings stuff out of curiosity and they had an ability that lets other leaders use command abilities even if they are not your general. That means only generals can use CAs? How does that affect summoning? Do we get around it because of our summoning CAs are in the movement phase? EDIT: nevermind apparently thats a 1.0 holdover not bothered to be taken off by GW, haha.
  9. Hello again, fellow kings and courtiers! I think I’ve come up with a cool list. Would like input but it feels strong. Feast Day AAR-Dark Wizardry, Dermal Robe, Deranged transformation AGKoRTG-gruesome bite, doppelcloak, spectral host AGK- Blood Feast Crypt Ghast Courtier 40 ghouls 10 ghouls 10 ghouls 6 Horrors Corpse Cart w/Lodestone Chalice of Ushoran Extra CP King’s Ghouls Realm: Ulgu Total: 2000 allies 80/400, 2cp to start with
  10. Hey there! Couple things. I’m still new but I’ve been asking around here and doing a lot of research (building up my army haha), there’s a few points I can help you with according to my own knowledge. First thing, Ghoul count. Its pretty much agreed that the best ways to run ghouls are as blocks of 40 or as basic 10-man squads. The only time I really have seen ghoul squads be 20 or 30 is a) Morgaunt or b) summoned with the Archregent. Which, it seems you’re going that route so it could work. I’d probably be prepared to switch gears though. Ask @XReN about his Morgaunt lists, they seemed pretty sweet! Second, it looks dangerous to not have any extra command points. This is a very CP hungry army and keeping one Archregent on the throne is great and all, but you’ll still have at least one or two other abhorrants summoning, and you may want extra feeding frenzies (Especially if you’re Morgaunt and not Feast Day), as well as emergency Inspiring Presence (though decrepit coronet should help). You should take at least a Ghoul Patrol Battalion for the extra CP and extra artefact. If you can, work in the 50 point extra CP you can get. Sure Ghoul Patrol is 180 points just to have it, but the option to outflank ghouls is really good. Also I think double Archregent is a bit much, but should be fine if you can’t jam a second behemoth mounted king. Hope this helps!
  11. Getting started on my varghulf. Just the main base coating for now. I’m so glad this is the only furred model in my army. Going to have to touch up stray splotches after I get the rest of the mournfang on his fur. When I sell some chaos instead of getting my first ghoul box I’m going to get some new brushes instead, its past time.
  12. Hm, not a bad suggestion. But my main concern is if this is worth taking over a ghoul patrol with 40-10-10, an AAR, and both mounted ghoul kings. On one hand I get an extra monster-wizard, whos just going to summon in the Varghulf anyway, but I don’t really intend on using the ghoul patrol outflank, listening to the advice of @XReN. On the other hand, if I went with the King’s Ghouls variant, I’d lose the AGKoRZD but I’d save a cp for summoning, get a blob of 6 horrors and the block of 40 ghouls near the ghast would be flat out immune to battleshock, no Medal or IP needed. Also I’d get to play around with Stampede a bit. The Varghulf being the general is nice but I wouldn’t have much to screen him with that could keep up with him.
  13. Hmm, alright. I came up with a hypothetical variant of the list Im planning on running. Feast Day AAR-Dermal Robe, Dark Wizardry 240 AGKoRTG-gruesome bite, Doppelgänger cloak 420 Varghulf 160 Crypt ghast courtier 60 40 ghouls 360 10 ghouls 100 10 ghouls 100 6 Horrors 260 Chalice 50 Stampede 70 King’s Ghouls 120 Extra CP 50 It replaces the AGKoRZD from the other list with a main list Varghulf, 6 horrors, Stampede and now anything near the ghast courtier auto passes battleshock. Is losing a caster/behemoth worth it if it gets more bodies and saves a command point of summoning or two? Also how effective would the Grim Garland be on a mounted gheist king? Seems the bravery debuff can fish for more mortal wounds. But is it worth it over doppelcloak or feather?
  14. Huh, I didn’t know you could still put it in the middle, for some reason I thought it still had to be put closer to the board edge. Like it had to be >3” away from board and >3” away from other terrain, which means opponents could place their terrain placements just so that you couldn’t set your throne up.
  15. Well, it took some budgeting (a good bit...besides with what IRL has been throwing at me I deserve it) and a bit of headache but I did it. I successfully have taken my first step in this army. Sir Mordroi Ghulfang himself. He’s not glued onto his base yet because I am not sure if I’m going to edit the base or want to paint him separately from it so I can get the undercarriage. Thought I would get the one resin model out of the way. Probably the smartest move I’ve made thus far.
  16. Where do you usually put it on a 6x4 board? And who do you have hanging around to protect your AAR and AGK? Won’t the things you want to buff/drop chalice near be too far out of range?
  17. Wow. I’ve always been told to avoid it because it was a trap. Isn’t it near impossible to deploy now with terrain rules in GHB19? And would you use it in the ghoul patrol/double mounted king/aar list?
  18. You use the Charnel Throne? I thought its placement was too restrictive and you didn’t want them hanging back that far doing nothing. So in a stronger version you’d bring chalice?
  19. Actually while we’re here I had a few questions about choices in this list. -Why Necrotic Fangs over Razor-Clawed on the AGKoRZD? I was under the impression that adding rend was better for it. -What’s your reasoning for excluding Chalice in this list? Couldn’t this benefit extremely from it? -You’re summoning two Varghulfs in this list right? Off the AAR and mounted King? It feels like two Varghulfs supporting this can pull a lot of work. -If you first turn burn all your CP on summoning, how do you manage to balance Inspiring Presence and Feeding Frenzy? It still looks like a really juicy list overall. I hope it does well.
  20. Dude I hate that. I started Chaos in 40k beginning of last year. I had gotten a bunch of the short space marine models in their old SC and a few kits. By march they had the new updated larger marines, which was cool! Except my ocd made me buy them all again to keep immersion. Now I’m not even playing them—In fact I’m selling them to afford FEC! Even if they give us a new Varghulf, I still want the old one since I have one waiting for me at a LGS around here.
  21. Is the CC going to get removed with a new book, or is there any chance of that happening? Also does anyone think the Varghulf will get a new plastic sculpt in the future? Its the only one in our army that isn’t plastic. Usually I’m vehemently against Failcast models, because they get warped and messed up in production too easily, but the bigger ones have always come out alright for me. Back in 40k I’ve had the old Dark Apostle and Cryptek models just be absolutely unusable out of the kit. However the Space Wolf mounted lord and the old Chaos Sorcerer models came out fine. The Varghulf is a bit of a thicker model with next to no flimsy parts to get ruined or snapped so it should be fine.
  22. Interesting! See I just use BS for listkeeping. I’d just cut one AGK from the list and add one RZD/TG mounted king and just shrug and go “Hey, RAW says it’s good.” BS is just for quick reference of stat blocks and abilities anyway. Not anyone’s fault the coding for the app is so strict. So would it be worth buying a corpse cart eventually? I see a lot of lists enjoying it.
  23. Out of curiosity, I tried putting it into battlescribe and it automatically put in 2 footslogging AGKs, with no option of giving them mounts. Weird. Youre right about it being obscure, though. The Charnel Throne, on the other end of the spectrum, specifies the footslogging AGK and AAR. Weird how both extremes are here, ha.
  24. (Personal Court character files. Also some character erratas from the story I posted.) Meet the Gravegorge Court! King Vladislaus Veindrinker- The Sovereign-Eternal, Propserous Ruler, the Hand of Benevolence, among many other titles. The King who once grieved for the loss of his queen, Aleera, and accepted the aid of a mysterious stranger to bring her back and restore his kingdom to prosperity. [In reality, he is the Abhorrant Archregent, the one responsible for opening the ravaged lands of his kingdom to madness, and bringing back the souls of his queen and her court as Nighthaunt.] Prince Viktor- Sky-Captain of the Gryphonheart Order and younger sibling of the King, Prince Viktor can often be seen patrolling the borders of the Kingdom atop his loyal Gryphon steed, Screamwing, flanked by his battalions of winged Sky-Knights. [In reality, while he once was the King’s brother, he was overwhelmed by madness and dark magic, and gave in to his brother’s gift. He is now an Abhorrant Ghoul King who rides atop a horrific Terrorgheist, usually surrounded by a flock of Crypt Flayers.] Prince Vorrik- The only son of the King, Prince Vorrik always wanted to become a Sky-Knight. His uncle warned him that it was forbidden for him to take part in the Rite of the Gryphon, for doing so involved imbibing Gryphon’s blood to induce the holy transformation, and that would taint his Royal Blood. As a solution, he scoured the land for his own mount, until he found a rare dragon and tamed it. The Prince is often watched over by his Father’s champion, Mordroi, who is always a call away. [In reality, the king’s son gave into the weight of his father’s power and delusion just as his uncle did. He is now an Abhorrant Ghoul King riding his Zombie Dragon, who can summon a voracious Varghulf at a moment’s notice.] Sir Mordroi Ghulfang, the Indomitable- The King’s own champion and mightiest warrior, Sir Mordroi’s mere presence inspires zealotry in serfs and knights alike. With the King’s blessing, he often separates from formation to seek either hordes of enemies or mighty, heroic foes to test his blades against. He has kept vigil over the king’s son since his birth, always a silent caretaker or short-spoken mentor to the boy. [In reality, he is the primary Varghulf of the court. He seeks prey on the battlefield, be it lone figures or scrums of cowering enemies. His will can easily be overruled by an Abhorrant’s call.] Sir Reginald von Fleshbaron, the Stoic—Voice of the People, King’s Advisor. Not a native to Veindrinker’s lands, Sir Reginald is an knight-emissary sent from a foreign court, ambushed near his destination by savage barbarians. A hunting party from the Gravegorge court stumbled upon the scene and heroically chased the savages away, killing what miserable creatures Sir Reginald hadn’t already slain. They adopted Sir Reginald into the court with King Vladislaus’ blessing. Since then he has won the hearts of the commonfolk, so much so that the King appointed him mayor of the colony-town of Ghoulhaven, on the savage frontier. [In reality, he is a crypt ghast courtier from a foreign area that was absorbed into the delusion of King Veindrinker.] There are other characters, but they are merely among the Crypt Flayers and Horrors of the court, and I’ve spent enough time writing this all down! Hope you all enjoyed the character I’m attempting to give my future army!
  25. I think I’ve come up with a solid 1000 point starter list that can be made with two ghoul boxes, a Start Collecting, and a separate ghast courtier: Feast Day AGKoRTG (spectral host, gruesome bite, gryph feather charm, Majestic Horror) Crypt Ghast Courtier 40 ghouls 10 ghouls Extra Cp summoning flayers
