so I was reading the production update on Soulbound and something has clicked.

They've made a production update for 2021, and for the AoS Soulbound line there is this listed:

    image.png.a34339eb50154e8ba07a23a340c3124d.png

They recently tied the release of one of the adventures in  Shadows of the Mist campaign book with the release of Broken Realms:Morathi, since it was set in Anvilgard.

soo... I'm starting to believe this could be another hint to a Soulblight/Legions of Nagash army release... or not, since there is also scheduled a Champions of Destruction book...

    So it begins!

    Hi all!

I got a lot of Sylvaneth for Christmas and I’d like some advice on what to build them as and how to build off it.

    i have

    1 x Start Collecting

    1 x Drycha

    1 x branchwych

    1 x Arch Revenant

    2 x Kurnoth Hunters

    4 x Tree Revenants/Spites

I like the idea of going for a kurnoth/tree Revenants and spite heavy if possible. What would you advise I build everything optional as?

Sylvaneth is in a tough spot right now, speaking as someone who finished 2k of Sylvaneth in 2020.   A rules refresh is most likely going to happen this year.

Do you have a certain list in mind?  I’d say the only surefire advice regardless of list is Kurnoth Hunters with Scythes or Swords.  And depending on you list either TLA or Spirit of Durthu.  I have two 5 man squads of Tree Revenants, but they only exist to snipe objects or be a teleporting screen.  They do almost no damage and die to a stiff breeze.  My suggestion would be to hold off on building your revenant kits until new rules come out.  The models are fantastic and I enjoyed painting up my Sylvaneth,, but they are in a rough spot on the table right now

  3. There’s no way Tyrion is coming in the wave of LRL from the New Years Day Teaser.  The pose of the rider on the mount is pretty similar to the Akhelian King.  I’d expect it’s a hero at the Akhelian King/Chaos Lord on Karkadrak/Liege Kavalos level.  Tyrion is going to be much more over the top, I mean come on haha...

  4. I started my Sylvaneth with a Wyldwood last holiday break and finished with an additional two sets of Wyldwoods a couple of days ago.  I finished:

    TLA

    Spirit of Durthu

    Branchwraith (Ylthari)

    Branchwych

    Arch-Revenant

    32 Dryads

    10 Tree Revenants

    9 Kurnoth Hunters

    3 Wyldwood Sets

    Vengeful Skullroot

just got to paint up my Spiteswarm Hive and add the basing accents and the army is done.  Working from home was a real deal breaker and I stayed motivated to get the army done because of the wonderful community and content producers of this hobby.  The only picture I have would be if this WIP(?) when I was working on my Durthu.

  5. Got my first game in with the BR: Morathi rules for IDK, I faced Stormcast with some of their new rules as well.  I really wanted to test the Leviadon and Allopex out.

I have been running Dhom Hain preciously, but switched to Fuethan to get a feel for the new rules.

    my list:

Akhelian King with Bladed Polearm, Lord of Storm and Sea, Cloud of Midnight, Voidchill Darkness.

    Soulscryer

    2 x Ishlaen Guard units of 3

1 x Morrsarr Guard of 6 and one of 3

    1 x Allopex unit of 3

    Leviadon with Reverberating Carapace

    Akhelian Corp

    Extra CP

     Battleplan was Total Conquest

I gave SCE the top of turn, he moved his Drakesworn and Concussors up backed by a unit of 10 Retributors towards the horizontal objective on my side of the board.  In my turn I killed off two Vanguard Hunters and put some wounds on the Retirbutors with shooting.  I won the roll off and gave him the top of turn 2 again, which he moved his Drakesworn and Concussors in to charge range .  My Ishlaen took some mortals from the Rain of Stars/Storm Blasts.  He charged in with his Drakesworn and did 0 damage to my Allopex unit and 1 damage to my Ishlaen with his Concussors.  I killed off a Concussor with my Ishlaen and one of the Allopex in the unit of three.  The other two put 7 or 8 damage into the Drakesworn (they were not getting extra bite attacks).   In my turn two I shot off some Freeguild Handgunners with my turtle and did some damage to the Star drake with Allopex harpoons.  I then charged my King and was able to finish off the Stardrake and Concussors with the Allopexes and King.  I ended up winning the roll off and the writing was on the wall.  The turtle charged in with the Akhelian King and Allopexes into the big Retributor unit and pasted them.  I wanted to see the output of the Leviadon and between him and the King, they almost killed what was the left of the unit, which the Allopexes finished off.  I still had my Soulscryer and 6 Morrsarr off the board and hadn’t even charged my MSU of Morrsarr and he only had a unit of Liberators, and what wasn’t shot off of the handgunners, and handful of SCE heroes.  So he conceded there.

Since I ran my other unit of Ishlaen to the objective across the board from my deployment, they didn’t see combat either.  Basically my Leviadon, Allopexes, King, and one unit of Ishlaen did about 65 wounds worth of damage, and I didn’t lose a model.  I really like the Allopexes, but the turtle was the MVP.  Giving the +1 Save in 15” is huge and getting to three drops is amazing with Deepkin.  These changes feel really strong and getting some damage in during the shooting phase feels good to soften up big units.  Overall, really happy and hoping to get more games in soon.

For outrageously strong competitive build I give you the Akhelion Corps, with no fat at all

    270 Volturnos - -1 to be hit

    100 Akhelian Corps

    340 Leviadon - Ancient

    140 3x Ishalaan Guard

    140 3x Ishalaan Guard

    340 6x Morsaar Guard

    330 3x Sharks with Harpoons

    330 3x Shark with Harpoons

2 Drops, 3 major threat units for that crucial turn 3, the turtle to hide behind a 2+  or 3+ unrendable wall for the first few turns, a lot more ranged than classic builds. Also easy to drop a shark or 2 for either a soulscryer or substitute for more shield eels or more combat eels, or even a spicy eidolon. 3 drops is still pretty low.

At least more varied than other earlier builds, and I think will be quite potent. Would ironically do less well against other eel builds as its pretty vulnerable to mortal wounds, but would likely do better against t1 shooting threats like KO who will struggle to remove a wall of 2+ save unrendable eels.

I’m right there with you that Akhelian Corps is viable now, but without another hero I think ultimately this list isn’t competitive, Places of Arcane Power is probably an auto lose for this list.

I think you’re looking at a good list if you can add a Soulscryer.  My tough as nails Tournament list only includes Volturnos and a Soulscryer with Akhelian Corps in Dhom Hain.  Even two heroes is tricky.  I’d even suggest running the Morrsarr as MSU as well.  You only have three units to do the heavy lifting in the list.  I’m getting some games in soon with the BR: Morathi new rules and Akhelian Corps  will be tested.

    Ancient

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Wounds: 128

    Turn 1. (5-5)

    IDK:

I was given the fist turn. I moved up, still staying in my turtle bubble, tagged the 2 neutral objectives and shot at the pink horrors. With my 6 sharks and turtle combined i did 20 wounds. He saved 4 of them and used a destiny dice to bring back horrors and rolled a 6.

    Tzeentch:

In his magic phase he used his teleport to move the 20 pinks 9" away from me, summoned the bridge and used it to get the rest of his army close to me.
20 horrors, 3 units of flamers, an exalted flamer and the big bird shot at me and killed 3 Ishlaen guards and wounded 2 more.

    1.jpg.ed7f37aa3013f9e7d91c8d1787a77ad2.jpg

    Turn 2: (10-6 Tzeentch)

    Tzeentch:

He got the double turn and ended up spending his magic phase (i popped the cloud of midnight on my king here) and shooting phase only killing 3 Ishlaen guards and 2 sharks. He charged his unit of pinks into my sharks and my king.

    IDK:

My scryer and 2 net sharks came on this turn. All shark shots went into the pinks and the turtle shot and killed the exalted flamer.

I charged everything into flamers and horrors killing most of them and the turtle did som mortal wound biting on the Bird.

    2.jpg.4ccfd740ce60b1d2534cd61dbb435809.jpg

    Turn 3: (15-11 Tzeentch)

    IDK:

I got the double and here the game was over. Still locked in combat I used my CPs on the turtle, giving him more attacks, shooting at everything i could and ending up killing everything but a character, 2 units of brims and a unit of flamers.

    Tzeentch:

He ran away, trying to take as many points as he could

    3.jpg.231d485f984303c145d8d9df167d6674.jpg

    Turn 4: (20-20)

    Tzeentch:

He scored some more points but that was it

    IDK:

I tabled him and took all points

    4.jpg.1c06b40e8e2172ad75a563b91b12f111.jpg

    Turn 5: (29-20 IDK)

    Overall a really fun game.

He chose this list because we wanted to see how the new IDK would do against the Shooting/magic meta. Next up i want to try it out against LRL and Seraphon.

Awesome, thanks for typing that all out.  What did you find after having ZERO Morrsarr in the list?  Did Sharks output enough damage to compensate?  Did you run into any battleshock losses on the big shark units?  It seems like the updated Razorshell Harpoon profiles are actually putting in some work now.  Can’t wait to get some games in myself with the new scrolls!

  8. Good to see so much interest on this thread.  I’m going to be able to get some games in soon after I have the Morathi book in hand.  Really looking at Akhelian Corps with 15 Morrsarr, 3 Ishlaen, Allopex, and Leviadon with Volturnos and a Soulscryer w/Cloud of Midnight in Dhom-hain.

3.0 battletome update: Forgotten Nightmares applies to magic as well as shooting. That would help with the MW spam I think.

Totally, there aren’t that many other changes I’d like at this point.  Give me 2” reach on Thralls, rewrite the Soulrender and Aspect of the Sea scroll and give us some CA’s beside the  Lord of Tides.  Maybe some Enclave rewrites, and  make Rituals prayers.  Ok, so maybe a few changes,  but overall the army is fun to play even at competitive levels.  And the models are superb.

If you just care about models there is a pretty strong chance underworlds season 4 will feature deepkin.

There is a low chance warcry will have a deepkin warband (on the basis they will probably do destruction and death ones first, plus the next order one is not likely to be elves again).

Otherwise I suspect one day, maybe next year, there will be a single character released in a box set (I'd bet embaillor) as most battletome armies seem to get that eventually.

Plus 3rd edition means an inevitable new battletome which may or may not coincide with a new model (likely late 2021).

The lack of rumour engines corresponding to deepkin like features makes me think we're a way off yet. With the exception of that crab claw which might be from an underworlds warband.

I was talking about new models across all armies for Broken Realms!  Trust me, I’m eagerly awaiting my Deepkin underworlds warband.

sure I agree with you that sharks work to pump (as does any unit really) my comment was just that you will likely find it more effective to pump a unit of eels as they have many more attack profiles / point cost. ie 6 eels (340 pts) get +18 attacks as they have spear/tail/bite each where 3 sharks (330pts) only get +6 attacks since the only get 1 bite and one hooks etc each. and hence from an efficiency point of view eels still beat sharks in the "turn 3 all out attack volty build"

again the entangle ability is good though and I think akhelian corps battalion got much better now as both shark and turtle has been buffed

I’m not disagreeing with you, I’m just saying large units of Sharks may be useful.  Deepkin don’t do well in protracted combat.  But with sharks -2 rend in their bites with more attacks, they might be able to stay in a fight and still be relevant.

  12. 27 minutes ago, woolf said:

eidolon of storm dmg seems actually be lower now as he lost the rr1 on hit/wound and the +wound aura doesn't do much for him as wounding on 2 anyways. however extra survivability and point drop could make him viable perhaps.

sharks interesting in particular the entangle ability, although eels probably stronger as get more from king cmd ability with more attack profiles

leviadon buffs seem quite solid though and now with more survivable aspect of Sea I think there could be a viable defensive build between debuffs from eidolon spells coupled with +save aura which also stacks with cover save in turn 1 / from spell

I’m not disappointed by the changes, but the one thing Deepkin lack is a CA.  We still ONLY have the High Tide CA from Volturnos/Akhelian King.  There’s definitely an opportunity to pump the CA on a unit of multiple sharks, plus their +1 attack from the new ability on the scroll.

  13. All good changes, I was running an Aspect of the Storm before COVID anyway, +1 to wound is huge for an army that is wounding on 3’s to begin with.  The Leviadon needs to see some time on the table still to make the decision on how useful it will be.  The direction they took seems to me like it’s supposed to anchor your battleline, so it’s got to be able to survive in protracted combat, which is something Deepkin does not do well before BR Morathi.  I’m super hyped about Allopex though.  Unfortunately I think Aspect of the Sea just doesn’t belong anywhere still.

If we get a new faction during Broken Realms, my money would be on the Death thing they have been teasing for months now. I don't really think there is room for two substantial things (new faction or big range update) in the timespan. I could see Slaanesh getting one or two units, but not a full battletome update before 3..0.

Right?  It feels like there is a new Death related rumour engine every other week, that’s been going on for months now.  A new Death faction that’s been teased feels right in Broken Realms.

Very nice pricing on these kits. Most of the boxes are equivalent discounts to SC boxes and Shadow and Pain is looking to be approximately  55-60% of retail even after you discount the contained kits for their start collecting box values. At full MSRP its like 50% off.

Where are you seeing the prices on these bad boys?

  16. 7 hours ago, DocKeule said:

That wouldn't be much of a battalion.

Allopex are getting new scrolls.  Battalions have also changed a ton since the IDK book came out.  Let’s be honest the new scrolls for IDK are a sigh of relief, points could not fix those units that have new scrolls coming.

  17. 14 hours ago, OkayestDM said:

We should consider too that this may only be our first wave of new warscroll battalions. If they do a Destruction book that covers the siege of Excelcis, there's almost certainly going to be more for the Knights Excelsior.

I was thinking too, a big faction like Cities might get more than just new Ulgu rules in a different Broken Realms book.
