  1. Due to our discussion yesterday I got some ideas for asymmetric battle plans, maybe bound into some loose campaign structure.  I will see what I can write up in the days to come to expand on that idea.

I also found the idea of underground tunnel fights quite interesting. There is a system for this in Border Town Burning, where the opponents explore a tunnel system by pulling floor tiles at random once they reach the end of the current tile. Shouldn’t be too difficult to change the tunnel size so it can accommodate a small AoS-army of, say, 1000-1200 p. Maybe even starting divided and lost, with Meeting Engagement rules.

ps.:Border Town Burning is a great inspirational source for AoS-scenarios I think. Main theme is the exploration and conquering of exotic lands, which should fit nicely into the unexplored areas of the Realms. And it’s fan made and free to download on the Internet. Just google it. 😊

  2. Since I am quite new to this forum: Is there a thread here where creative home-brew battle plans can be presented and discussed; maybe even including actual battle reports of playing them? Should be the right format to encourage others getting  into a more experimental mindset, I would think.

  3. I think you’re absolutely right.

I myself come from a RPG background. What really fascinated me with AoS is not only the possibility, but the actual encouragement to play more open, scenario-based, even deliberately asymmetrical games. I do hope that they expand those ideas in the future.  So much to explore there: Sieges, suicide missions, last stands....

  4. My army actually started as a Mordheim Warband. While I built the miniatures, I realized that I almost got enough minis for a 1000 points game in my hands 😄

So now I am sitting on 1500 Points of almost painted Ogors. Still haven’t played a single game, but enjoying it nonetheless. Now with the new book, anything can happen...😊

  5. I still like the Old World more.

Then, again, I was never into Rank&File, which just seemed wrong with only a few dozen, max 200 fighters on the battlefield, which would still only be a skirmish in real life. Also I like short basic  rules

So, win some lose some, I’d say 😄

Kinda ironic how the only model they replaced was one that is now subpar. A new butcher would have been nice and much more useful.

I am sure new models will come next year for most armies, now that almost all armies are sorted out.  We already have a new tyrant, new hunter is on the way, so the next Ogor mini will be a butcher I think. Until then, kitbash away. 😁

Oh, and I will definitely try out the 6shot tyrant, looks like a fun plinker 😄

  7. Honestly, even though currently I do have the money to buy anything I could want miniatureswise, it does affect me if something feels unreasonably expensive. Of course, it’s highly subjective; I’d say a big and highly detailed model doesn’t feel overpriced in the 50-70 € category, but it does in the 100+ category; basic infantry is ok for 30ish for 10, but not for 50 and so on. Where it is over that threshold, I try to circumvent.

    Luckily, I chose Ogors. 😄

So, you mean that with 2 or more kits, you are ready to get everything you need?

As long as you don’t want multiples of each (and don’t care for an empty saddle, which can be easily filled with a magnetized harness out of barrels and chests): Yes. 😊

speaking of magnetization, it seem that there are 5 variants of big guys, am I right?

    Frostlord / Beastriders  ON Stonehorn

Huskard / Frostlord / Beastriders ON Thundertusk

Is the total magnetization possible? Or does it render like trash? If you have to sacrify on or 2 build for an easy magnetization, how would you do it?

Magnetizing riders wasn’t that big of a problem, even for a beginner like me.  If you put two saddles on, and buy a third optional rider from bitzstores, you have all three options.

I am somewhat doubtful as to magnetizing the heads of the beasts, though. It makes the whole sculpt a lot more fragile .

You might want to consider upgrading the beast riders to a huskard instead, more expensive, but gets you access to prayers and a mount trait, which could be worthwhile.

Still an option. Luckily I’ve magnetized the riders 😅

As far as I see, though, the Huskards Prayers only work on BCR units, so no healing the Ogors. May still be worth it though.

  11. Ok, that would mean Hunter as general, Frostsabers (actually classic fenrisian wolves 😁) as Battleline, right?

Isn‘t a block of 12 Ogor a bit unwieldy, meaning that oftentimes only a part of them gets to fight anyway? On the plus side, as you say, they would be the perfect target for Slaughtermasters buffs and the Tyrant command...

    Hmm

  12. BTW, my army list so far:

    Winterbite Mawtribe

    Tyrant

    Butcher

    Butcher

    Hunter

    9 Ogor (3/3/3 or 6/3, MSU)

10 Frostsaber (don’t know how to divide them)

    Thundertusk Beastriders

    Skal Battalion

    Mawpot

    =1520 p

I am completely new to this, just picked the miniatures I really like. Basic idea is to have the butchers, mawpot and thundertusk as artillery, with Ogors and sabers as hunters within the threat range of the casters and shooters.

Some yhetees would be really fitting I think, but those sculpts.... Meh.

    Ideas? Opinions?
