  1. Not... The best lightening but I finally got ten of these boys done and just had to post them! I'll try to get some better shots.

I haven't had a lot of time to paint, which makes me rather sad. But really proud of what I've gotten done so far turned out!

I'm also trying something out with Das, trying to spread it out and letting it dry to make "slate" rocks. Anyone have any experience with this?

Weather or not he is useful I suspect depends on how magic heavy your local meta is. Three +2 unbinds can mess with a lot of armies.

My local players are Skaven/Legions of Nagash, Fyreslayers, Slyvaneth, Stormcast, Mawtribes, FEC, and CoS. So, it might be pretty good to unbind a lot of spells haha.

Yeah, I even see some taking Kata + Arkhan but I find that leaves you with a strange 100-120ish points deficit where you can't include anything else really.

Personally I swap between Katakros + Soulmason +Liege Kavalos\Boneshaper or Liege Kavalos + Soulmason + 2 Boneshapers and both work out well.. but I prefer Katakros a lot of the time simply for his massive utility and 5 RDP. It's really more of a "do you want everything else in your army to be pulling weight or do you want Nagash to pull the weight?" in my opinion.. and I'm seldom a fan of having all eggs in 1 basket.

Hmmm I already have Arkhan so i've been trying to make him work (but haven't had a chance to play much 2k games haha) but i've been heavily thinking of picking up Katakros soon. I'm not even so sure if the list i'm running at 2k is all that hot with Arkhan

I would never take him for tournament play simply because any competent player can easily bring him down quickly even in PE... and being nearly half your points that hurts especially bad in OBR. You're also only getting 1 RDP and maybe getting 4-6 rolls on top of that, not counting Arcane Command... but still. In those builds its Nagash that has all the power and I really think OBR does a lot better with the other hero's generating more RDP + buffs and letting things like Mortek, Stalkers, etc do all the work. Therefore I would consider it more of a fun build. Not to say it can't be used competitively, but I have plenty of other lists that would do far better in that contex and none of them have Nagash (or Arkhan for that matter).

Does it seem like Katakros is what people are taking if they want a big hero?

But the rules are slain models, so flavor wise its not damaged reapers being repaired, its dead ones, and in this case it would be the same dead one dying and being repaired over and over again in an instant lol. Im just arguing semantics at this point though. I appreciate the clarification on the rules.

If it helps you immersion, the Harvester has a ton of skeletons on his back. Maybe he is just hot swapping the damaged parts with the ones on his back? lol

I suspect this very thing will shift the crying from Mortek Guard to Nurgle warriors supported by shrines and demon princes in huge blobs.

100 pts per 5. Rerolls save for free when 10 or more in the unit. The warshrine of nurgle hands out +1 save and the 6++ save.

The Demon prince command gives a nurgle std unit a buff until next hero phase, causing each hit roll of 6 against them to deal d3 mortal wounds back. The enemy will die long before these guys die.

Imagine witch aelves attacing these guys, they will just explode themselves when they begin rolling dice.

Dang, I was thinking of picking some STD stuff up because while I love the undead I also really like chaos stuff... and my favored chaos god is either Tzeentch or Nurgle. I'm worried people will start thinking i'm "That guy". I just really like the models

I'm coming from a 1000p Meeting Engagement test game with the OBR. The one thing that's in the forefront of my mind right now: Stalkers and / or Petrifex Elite are overtuned.

Petrifex Elite should not have the incredible -1 Rend CA in addition to the already incredible +1 to save.

Stalkers should not get -1 Rend AND +1 Damage. It massively outshines the other 3 options.

I've had a min size Stalker unit deal 20 damage after all saves to a Lord of Affliction and it felt bad.

It seems to me that the Stalkers are really more like our version of say, Kurnoth Hunters. Instead of being able to deal a ton of mortal wounds and damage, they just have higher rend.

Imagine I could deal 25 damage after saves (+3) to your units on turn one. What would you feel the worst about loosing? Based on the tips, and on finishing the 1d4 page on OBR I'm thinking that if he has a Harvester that should die first. If he has one crawler I would also deal with that. But if he has two crawlers I would probably leave them and put the wounds into the Mortek Guard.

The crawlers can be pretty dangerous. While they don't have rend, they do deal 5 damage on wounds which could be pretty bad if your support heroes take a hit. Their special ammo might also be some cause for concern.

The harvester is killy, and can bring back guard. So taking it down quickly would probably be best, yeah. Do you know what kind of heroes the OBR player is running? Something like Katakros or Arkhan can bring a lot of pain.

I could hate on that pretty easily. We're playing an army that is currently seen as the new slaanesh.

I don't see anything wrong at all in making sure he can compete and make it an enjoyable game.

Sounds like you're already playing with cheat codes on if you're playing OBR 😙

    Rich

I see it somewhat often in other army forums I occasionally skim, players having an issue with certain army so they ask the players of that army "Hey, what are your weaknesses?".

I don't really see anything wrong with it.

It's Grey Seer primer,Space Wolf Grey contrast, Grey Seer dry brush, white db.

I really liked trying a super white-ish bone, but in the end I just liked the warmer tones better.

I can't wait for my bases to get here!!! I'll be able to rip these guys off their bases and give them new permanent homes.

If i may ask, what kind of base did you go with?

  11. 5 minutes ago, Phasteon said:

Yeah i just double checked it. Lots of new rules to learn, its quite unusual since its either worded unmodified 6 or X+ in other rules where + (or higher) means it can be modified.

What a shame, no 2+ exploding hits for spear kavalos riders then, but 4+ will suffice.

I take it you took spears over swords on your deathriders?

I dont know about the Harvesters tbh, are they really as good as they look on paper?

I did not lose enough Mortek Guards so far to feel that i need the resurrection and i feel like the Crawlers really help against those synergy pieces

I actually haven't had a chance to deploy them yet (I just really like the models) but from what I've read on here they tend to do pretty well!

tbh they are probably the best unit in the book and i‘ve considered playing 2x 10, but i didnt like the aesthetics of whats left after that.

Even 5 of them were enough to contest objectices on weaker flanks and they are so incredibly fast

They do seem pretty strong! I picked up five, thinking about getting more if I like them after using them soon.

What i'm thinking of running is

    Arkhan
    Liege Kavalos
    Soulmason

    20 mortek guard
    20 mortek guard
    5 deathriders

    Harvester
    Harvester
    Crawler

Haven't had a chance to test it out yet, but I imagine it'll be pretty alright.

I‘m gonna play this list in a local tournament soon:

    Petrifex

    Arkhan

    Liege Kavalos, General, Godbone

    Soulmason, Gothizzar Cartouche

    30 Mortek Guard

    2x5 Kavalos

    2 Mortek Crawler

    Kavalos Battalion

    Bone Tithe Shrieker

100% winrate so far, with the Mortek Crawler being the most efficient so far (tried the same core list but with morghasts/ immortis guard before)

How're you liking the kavalos in that list?

  15. So i've been slowly churning away, and almost have 10 mortek guard complete. Though i'm running into an issue... i'm not sure what to do with the tabards and straps on the weapons.

In the above picture, I went with blue. But the more I look at it the more I think (maybe that's too much blue). Could be because it's the same shade as the armor? I thought about trying a different grey tone, but it blended too much with the bone... Maybe trying a red since it contrasts with blue? But i'm not sure if having bits of red would detract too much from the "Cool" tone of the bones.

remember that Arkhan, as a special character, cannot have the command trait and artifact

Totally forgot about that! Thanks! Remind me, Arkhan also take up a behemoth slot? I assume so since he has the keyword, but since he's a leader too i wasn't too sure if it mattered or not

Your problem will be the mobility: you friend got it with some (super) heavy hitters. I'd suggest:

    - maybe a ES to slow down some of the enemies

    - one fast unit (riders) to counter a flank and go with the liege.

    - maybe only one unit of the guards need to be 20 (with arkhan giving life back...). Not sure. To be tested. If you can replace the 130pts by another hero (for more DP and magic, boneshaper would be my take)

I like these ideas! Though i'm not sure what you mean by "ES", i'm away from my book at the moment. And I forgot to mention, I do have the terrain piece to help out a tiny bit

    So something like

    Petrifex

    Arkhan

    Liege Kavalos

    Boneshaper

    20xmortek guard

    10xmortek guard

    5xDeathriders

    Mortek Crawler

    Bone-tithe shrieker

    Bone-tithe Nexus

  18. So my buddy is playing mawtribes and going a pretty heavy cavalry  list, we're playing a 1500 points game in the next few days and i was thinking of something like this

    Petrifex Elite

Arkhan the black: Mighty Archaeossian / Godbone armor

    Liege Kavalos

    20 Mortek Guard

    20 Mortek Guard

    3 Stalkers

    1 Mortek Crawler

    Soulstealer Carrion

I would have preferred to run two harvesters,  but can only take two behemoths at 1500. I believe he's taking 3 stonehorns (he said his general allows him to take some of them as battleline?), 2x4 mournfangs, and 2 butchers. So i'm taking the crawler to hopefully snipe the butchers. Used the leftover points to take the stalkers, not sure how well they'll do.

Think this list will stand up well to all those charges in my future?

People have been writing alot about forced artifacts dye to subfaction. Does this mean you cant pick Artifact when going petrifex? And instead you have to use godbone armor? This forcing you to take a battalion in order to get the helm for the liege?

That's correct. Picking petrifex locks you into a trait and artifact.
