  1. I mean I did! Or atleasy thought DOK Shadowstalker Units meant transition to a DOK army. Honestly not even truly upset (a little frustrated) I am just infinitely amused, because like GW has removed my armies from the Fantasy/AOS or legality like 5 times now. There is a joke at my store any faction I choose in AoS doomed to get squatted.

  2. So while I find this utterly hilarious, I am not gonna lie, I am frustrated again. My Sigmar Army has gotten removed from the game again! For reference here:

    Fantasy: Bretonnia (Coming back in Old World)

    Age of Sigmar 1st Edition: Bretonnia-FreeGuild (I was planning on using Bretonnia (sense keyword shared) as a stepping stone to build FreeGuild army). Bretonnia lost FreeGuild keyword and then stuff like Order Knights got removed.

    Age of Sigmar 2nd Edition: Freeguild-Vampire Mercs. I transitioned to using Merc rules bought some Blood Knights, and otherwise. Relevant Mercs got removed from the game. 

    Age of Sigmar 2nd Edition Part 2: Shadowblade + Friends (Tempest Eye/Living City) I acquired some Stormcast, Wanderers, alongside other units and converted some of my Freeguild. Redid the army with a ShadowBlade Core + Assassin General. Realm Rules (Removal of Realm Facts, specifically Thermal Rider) ended that army. 

    Age of Sigmar 2nd/3rd Edition: Shadowblade + DoK/Stormcast Vangaurd (Hal Kuron and Misthaven). I more embraced the Shadowblade theme of shifty shifty, and began using DoK new units Khainte Units and/or Stormcast Vangaurd Rules. Originally intended for Hal Kuron, but then Legends rules for Uglu Wizard Aelves from that boardgames I transitioned to Misthavn. 

    Now ironically while Human Cavalry have returned, and alot of my hopes for genericier traits so my Assassin Generals wouldn’t feel meh. Shadowblade isn’t an army that can exist anymore. Furthermore Assassins only work with Aelf Units. Also I lost Stormcast Coalition. So like on principle I like new book and Bretonnia returning in ToW. But man getting my army removed from the game 5 times is book utterly hilarious and incredibly frustrating for me.

    If GW wants AOS to stand apart as its own high fantasy IP, something needs to be different. And being without the fantasy speciesism of their other two GIANT IPs will set Age of Sigmar as its own nobledark standard.

    I think there's a misunderstanding here: those of us who want the Cities redesign to include non-humans, want that because it would mean direct synergies and less/no redundant units.

    Yeah I agree Commissar, I just don’t agree with the concept or argument as the book is written as now that their is some harmonious crossover/intergratiom with subfactions

  4. So just to mention all those “Love Mixed Race!” Well cities has imho several core almost unsolvable problem:

    Few Direct Cross Faction Synergies. Subfactions are super xenophobic to each other. And multiple redundant units. We have:

    Dreadspears, Dreadblade, Eternal Gaurd, and Freeguild Gaurd. Then lesser extent Executioners, Black Gaurd, GreatSwords and Pheonix Gaurd. And list goes on, on units that serve fundamentally same roles. Further all the heroes only buff or work on certain subfactions. So in this way I am hoping Neo New Cities. Reworks the core design for “Sub” Factions Factions. Like units or armies shouldn’t be so painfully xenophobic.

    Big Aelf heroes do best buffs on Aelves but also buff or affect other mortals

    If I owned a Bretonnian army I would buy Flesh Eaters Court, find out which models were close and convert them up with some ghoul heads and arms.  

     

    If you don't want to do that buy Cities of Sigmar and figure out what works there.  

     

    There are lots of people who've played Warhammer Fantasy for years/decades and have been through the ups and downs and made it work.  

    I’ve kinda tried to NOT be doing Bretonnia. Its why my list is Shadowblade themed. And Bretonnia being here or there is not something matters to me. Like ultimately if I wanted Bretonnia, I’d play Bretonnia. What I want is bejng able to play my heroes and not feel awful*.
     

    And it seems verdict here is that non-monster heroes are terrible**. But are themselves not bad units. Because they provide strong support elements. And add abilities to the game that is lacking otherwise.

    Issue I posted this thread is the Monster Heroes, not Foot Heroes, but monsters like X character on X Monster Mount or literal monsters who are heroes. Just seems better than non monster hero equivalents. To point I was “why not just take this big character monster?” Like the small/non monsters characters felt like they do nothing. They have paltry and weak number of attacks. Their command abilities often are just weaker than the big monsters. And like yeah an 80 point Assassin might not be actively terrible. But that 80 point Assassin could be a Scourge Chariot which actively does something. 
     

    I do feel this thread proved to me its not the system its me being bias/oddlt specific circumstances which is the issue here.

    *I do want to stress this I am not angry Bretonnia was gone. I have my models, I have legend rukes and okd world is comjng and my larger issue always been the lack of cavalry/knight models to make more bretonnins and cavalry heroes. Both within last year AoS has provided (Luminith Cavalry and Legends). Both models and rulewise for conversions wnd for cavalry character in cities. 
     

    **As a unit they do actively nothing. A Freeguild footwalking general does nothing. He makes other units do great/better things. So terrible is there to unit own capabibility to do things
