  1. @CrashStacy The Mirkwood spiders are nice models but they're huge, they're on 60mm bases. The spiders for WHQ are actually very small, the original minis were on 25mm bases. It's hard to get spiders that size these days.

For the rats I'm using some old metal ones from the Skaven range, they used to come with a packmaster. I got mine for Mordheim originally. I have a few plastic rats of various sizes from different Skaven sprues as well, some of which are big enough to do the job (or can be paired up on 25mm rounds to make them a bit more imposing).

How about a gnashtoof cavalry? My pour wallet... 😢

I don't think it's a good idea to pour anything in your wallet. ;)
Is there a rumour of a cavalry unit? I haven't seen it. I'd like us to get one! (and it would make the "great" gnashtoof make more sense if there were regular size ones as a unit..)

  3. Yes, they did a short (and poorly advertised) AoS run of those models as "Spire of Dawn" in some territories before disappearing them back into oblivion. It's a shame, because that set is the only place the skaven mortar has ever existed, the clanrats are pretty nice, and the engineer is very good for a starter set mini of his era. If TOW means they want people to start stacking clanrats into 40-strong rectangles again, bringing back those sprues would make it a lot easier.

  4. The temple range from Gamer's Grass will get you ruined flagstones like this in every size, but you'd need to add your own roots and leaves to them. Leaves are pretty simple to make, so this wouldn't be too taxing if you did them in batches.

Just looked at sprue again on Gdubs site, i didn't see any drums on the Hobs sprue.

Can someone who has it confirm?

There's a drum and a horn, yes. They only have pictures of two of the three hobgrot sprues on the website, for some reason.

  6. BoC and S2D currently have too many units between them to share a book, I think. I'd rather see a refreshed and expanded BoC line with coalition rules allowing them to work with Slaves to Darkness. If they were crammed into the same book, I'd expect to see a lot of old Beasts stuff disappear.

  7. Anything with the "Leader" battlefield role, unless I'm missing something.

If your general has the right W stat to qualify, there's no reason you couldn't have that model take up a subcommander slot in a core battalion. It's a little odd thematically, but it seems fine rules-wise.

We need a hero to paint three subfactions in the same tone, tbh

Then we can truly see the overall effect, the official showcase just doesn’t work.

I'm on it, but since I'm the slowest hobbyist alive you might have to wait a few years. ;)

I do think brutes and gutrippas will look great in variations the same colour scheme, though.

  9. The former I think. He still doesn't have the relevant keywords to use the allegiance abilities himself, he just doesn't disrupt your allegiance. Archaon has the same rule so he can be taken in a Blades of Khorne or Maggotkin army (etc) without having to be an ally. Neither Ironjawz nor Kragnos got much out of the new FAQs.

  10. New models are incredible, even better than I was expecting. Very surprised by multipart man-skewers. The sludgeraker is my new favourite Warhammer monster.

The AoS books going hardback-only with just the rules in the app, though... that sucks a lot.

Honestly, at this point, I would look for images and design ideas for a 3D printer and just make your own. (.stl). Any originals, you’ll have to pay out the butt for.

    I would if I had access to a 3D printer, but I don't unfortunately.

Anyway, new spiders from Spellcrow: https://www.spellcrow.com/forest-spider-pre-order-p-971.html

These look good and they're the ideal size for WHQ 95. Actually obtaining them could be awkward, but I'll keep an eye out.

  12. I'm glad they've confirmed new FAQs and erratas for all factions on launch. That's the kind of information we needed 2 weeks ago, but I'm still glad to see it!

"Regular updates to points values" kind of suggests they might be aware there are problems with the GHB already. We'll see I guess.

  13. I gotta reiterate how much I like getting access to the lore sections of old campaign books like the Realmgate Wars. I wouldn't want to buy a book like that at full price, but I snapped up the ebooks of Gathering Storm when they bundled those at a steep discount just to get the art/lore. What I'm hoping with this WH+ vault is that these books will be easy to access and read on a variety of devices, and also that the format will be preserved. If this is the case, the vault and the painting videos will be worth the subscription price for me.

On the subject of digital publications, which is all I talk about lately, that Warcry pdf for Soulblight is very good. I'd like to see more of that. It does make me sad that the ToC and the grand alliance books were print-only though, because clearly all Warcry material could have been like this.

GW: I just want to be able to pack my wee orruks in a little case in a bag with my tablet and have everything I need to get on a train and go to a game somewhere. You can do it. You can make that possible. (in a future where it's safe to do this, obviously)

The 40k situation is worse than that. Now if you buy the physical version you get a code which unlocks the rules in the app but only the rules and only in the rather ugly format that the app uses. There is absolutely no way to access the lore or the art digitally. I like to take my iPad with me and read the lore on my lunch break but if they copy the 40k app that won't be possible. That's the big worry.

I stopped buying 40k books because of this. I likewise do my reading on my tablet and I mainly buy books for lore, art and painting/modelling inspiration. Definitely not buying hardbacks to unlock just the parts I don't need in the app. The one codex I did buy this edition was so light on lore content anyway it made me really glad I had the 8E books for my factions. Hopefully battletomes don't go the same way - though we should be fine if the Soulblight book was written with 3E in mind.

  15. That seems extremely clear. Your old content stays on the old app. If you want to retain access to books you bought in the old app, you have to keep it installed. No transfer.

Is that a terrible way to go about it? Why, yes it is.
