Kharadron Overlords: Ride of the valkyries (Richard Wagner)

If you field a lot of Frigates, Yellow Submarine from the Beatles fits well.

Fyreslayers would work with Feuer Frei (Rammstein) or Firestarter (Prodigy).

Disposessed would be the entire oeuvre of Wind Rose.

This really depends on whether you decide to take the WFB into account. He was the Witch King after all. But even in AoS - my perception is that Morathi is a second-tier god and Malerion is the real Druchii Chad, just waiting to be unleashed.

I really don't think taking wfb too much in account is worthwhile. If he's a leader in the book (and model) but Morathi stays the face, that would be better than another male led faction on the heap.

A few lines in books but also a surprisingly high number of Dark Elves, currently residing, for a lack of better place, in the CoS faction. The unification of Druchii is not impossible.

But why reunificate under that guy instead of Morathi?

I think it would be the other way around, DoK would be removed and Morathi would join Malerion.

Why that way around? DoK is an existing faction with a famous figurehead and quite a few players. Malarion (or some other version of the name) is just a few lines in books.

Yeah, it's one thing to loose a hero to spell with limited range so you can at least have a chance to position the hero out of range or to normal wounds which you have a chance to defend against.

But unlimited range MW is bad design no matter if it's comets call or this prayer since you as a player can not do anything to try to mitigate the effects, and this is to all your mage/priests on the board.

(Functionally) unlimited mw you can't hide from is exactly why Sentinels were so hated.

just my 2 cent. i suppose capitalist fans play karhadron "Overlords" 😁

Hey! One can enjoy fantasy capitalists while disliking real capitalists!

karl franz would be also great in the vanguard, the mini is gorgeous(better than the new humans for many of us) and the box art would be great with a big miniature.

i also i would love if it have a steam tank,i never got one because for me it is overpriced in money for the amount of plastic and how small it is,but if it is inside a box with disscount i would get it

The General on Griffin set also has a warmage and general on foot with only minor sculpting. I love the kit.

Well if you look close at one fighter in the vid she does appear to have aelven ears. Might be some more head choices in that flavor.

my favorite bits are the baroque critters. More walking fish because the magical sulphuric seas of Aqshy sped up that evolution, skull head for the chaotic hellscapes and little sock Dobby for the fey creatures even Berserk manga payed homage to.

Always a big win when we get to see the bizarre fauna & flora of the Mortal Realms to immerse us in the surreal magic of the realmscapes. 🍻 💫

The small critters look so much like medieval illuminations or Bosch paintings. I love all of them and will build and paint these before the actual models.

Also love the (half?) elven head, mixed units have long been a wish of mine.

Yes the pictured unit looks great!

I feel in general GW were struggling with their aesthetic in between the somewhat realistic-looking late metal era, around 6th-7th edition or so when they had changed from the very colourful and also cartoonish 4th and 5th edition, and AoS (or at least End Times). They feel rushed, like they neither have the personality of the old models or the details of the newer ones. For example, the last dwarf (now Dispossessed) range doesn't do it for me either. Ditto for the savage orc (now Bonesplitterz) range (and also several other orc units from that era, such as generic Boar Boyz). Or the by now completely squatted late High Elves range.

I guess early AoS also had some vestiges of this problem: for example, the Fyreslayer units (but not heroes and droths) feel like this too... I am not sure what happened around that time, but I've heard it suggested that they were adjusting to digital sculpting processes?

However, I think the release of Nagash for End Times was a pivotal point. There they clearly took a step forward and released what I think is one of their absolutely strongest miniatures all things considered. Same with Mortarchs, Stormfiends, lots of Nurgle stuff... There they showed that they had started to master whatever sculpting tools they use now. And now almost everything they release is excellent, whether new armies like Ossiarchs, Nighthaunt and Idoneth or updates like the Lizards, SBGL or StD. It's truly gorgeous stuff.

EDIT: I realize I didn't really address the ghouls themselves. I like the metal ones because you can see they are humans who are in the process of losing it. They don't look *that* different from flagellants, who also are on the verge of going crazy, but the ghouls have stepped over a line that the flagellants haven't quite yet. Whereas the plastic spiky bone boys have devolved a bit too much to make sense. They look like generic cartoon monsters. So I actually feel the old metal ones are more like Gollum whereas the plastic ones feel more like something from Warcraft.

With the dwarves, it's the faces. They all have blank expressions, and the designer thought that would be invisible under the beard.

I think geographical location is really important to remember when having discussions like this. Price and population density can massively impact the perception of the hobby and those vary wildly depending on where you are in the world. I've been in the hobby for nearly 25 years now and I struggle to understand how it's possible anybody could buy these models from a pure hobby perspective with no care for the rules whatsoever. In my part of the world they're just too expensive to consider for me if I'm not going to get the full enjoyment of modelling, painting, and gaming. If I lived in the UK with their prices then maybe I could imagine a world where I didn't care that my models were suddenly unusable, but as is it's just mind blowing to hear.

Even the concept of playing purely with friends in a basement is a little bizarre to me. I first got into the game with a friend, but I've never been able to convince any other friends to get into the game and stick with it. Models are too expensive and there's too much time commitment. After high school my friend couldn't afford the game anymore and I was left with playing at a LGS exclusively. That hasn't changed in the last 18 or so years. Nobody I know has even the slightest interest in dropping thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours. Again maybe in a part of the world where the game has more general popularity and is more affordable I could see basement gaming being more prevalent, but here it just seems impossible.

Alternate gaming systems are also almost laughable for me. I've seen a few come and go, and played a number of them myself, but the only one that's sticks is Warhammer plain and simple. There just aren't enough people where I live for there to be any type of regular gaming on a variety of systems. Just for an example, the population density of the UK is about 280 people per square kilometer. The density in my province is about 6.7. I live in one of the biggest cities in my country with a little over a million people. The next closest city around that size is a little over 3 hours away by car. The next is about 12 hours away.

I guess to bring this on topic, people experience the hobby if vastly different ways around the world. If you bought some models with some pocket change and got dozens of games in with your mates then yeah you'll probably feel like you got your money's worth and won't mind too much when they get rotated out. If you had to save for a month to buy a single infantry kit and you can only play at a gaming store that's a 40 minute drive away once a month then your perception of value will be wildly different.

I buy models to paint them, and sometime use them for non-warhammer games. I never play GW games.

A search of historical 28mm minis for the Italian Wars will turn up some similar models based on the illustration. These models will typically be smaller than current fantasy models. I have something similar to Durer's illustration in 20mm soft plastic, but I doubt that is what you are after.

If you scroll down to the light cavalry, they have some models based on this illustration.

Eureka have something similar, though this is a French 'Archer' (why is a heavy cavalry trooper called an archer...long story):

There would be other stuff out there. These Lancer minis look good, but don't yet have the one you want in their range. Maybe pester them to produce it?

Here's what their Zweihander look like (usable as Empire Greatswordsmen).

    https://lancerminiatures.com/product/zweihander-x4/

Not that WFB Empire armies look anything like armies of this period...wait, yes they do!

I looked at my models, and I think I can make a decent attempt with a Demigryph knight (empire knight is plainer) Pistoleer horse, beastman and some form of vampire for Death. There is no great dog, so I'll have to print that

The Landsknecht idea reflects the choice of the early modern era for the setting. Take a look at Albrecht Durer's art style to see where a lot of Warhammer art gets it's inspiration from.

The Italian Wars are a great period to wargame. Warhammer takes that and adds monsters and magic. Modern fantasy, or should I say late modern era fantasy, doesn't have the same aesthetic. AoS seems to be more contemporary in it's fantasy style, hence the D&D like feel.

If anyone knows miniatures based on this woodcarving, I'd be very much interested.

I get that. I really do. And I'm sure your mind is made up. But this is just going to keep happening. GW is going to GW you over and over again. So it might actually be worth considering learning a new system and recruiting your friends.

    Think of it this way:

    - You can keep using all your models, and buy whatever new models GW releases that you like.
    - You don't have to buy and learn a new version of teh same game every 3 years.
    - You don't have to worry about your army suddenly becoming illegal or getting squatted.
    - You don't have to spend money on GW books unless you want to read the fluff and look at the art.
    - You don't have to deal with random changes to your army every edition.

Of course, there are plenty of downsides too! But maybe its worth considering? I was personally so much happier after leaving 40K for Infinity. As neat as AoS is and as much as I love the models it has been very hard to come back and engage with GW as a business.

Also, OPR is a lot less pages due to the base game being one page.
