Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Jordan at SoW puts in 20+ hours of work for each of his "Gold Standard" reports. I'm lucky to get 2 hours a week these days and those 2 hours are spent mowing the lawn. And, I'm several episodes of Warhammer weekly behind and a bunch of SoW batreps!

Remember back when we had more time? Yeah... those were the days!

There are 4 2 day GT's within a 5 hour drive of me in the next 3 months. I can not attend any of them.

Season of War (Toronto), Canhammer (Ottawa), Montreal GT (I'm running it), and Red Harvest (Oshawa).

Then there is Nova which is a 10 hour drive.

In November there is Da Boyz (Rochester) and December is Everwinter (Boston) I'm hoping for at least one of those two.

Is anyone here going to any of these?

I wish I could go to an event. I'm sure there is one in the Seattle area, but even that's 30 miles from me. Eh, really I'm just making excuses because I'm low-key sure that I'll be tabled turn 2 and be knocked out of the running.

Either way, what I really miss is the sitting around the table, slow-playing a game, going over each of the rounds with my 2 or 3 friends in the room, and still having time for a second game, and then going to dinner to keep talking about it more. Going to the local shop and bouncing off the local meta. Getting chuckles when I unboxed my NH and no one seeing the knowing smirk of the shop owner because he knew I was about to hand someone their butt on a plate. Ah, good times.

Some advice how to play against Stormcast? I think mostly units from last starter, maybe evocators and/or dragons.

I'm not sure it's a major threat to us right now. Shut down casting and be wary of their ability to do mortals when they're killed, which I think depends on chamber. I like to weaken units but not necessarily wipe them, knowing that they can Cycle of the Storm them back.

Here is the link to the battle reports I did Vlog style:

Nighthaunt are super fun. I hope someone can find these useful.

This was a nice watch. I actually retained information this time! It makes me miss how I used to go over potential lists and get a lot of games in with my friends.

  4. *cough, cough...hack, cough WHEEZE*

Alright, you degenerates. I've updated the guide.

    Now, permit me to die.

    Change log

    • Updated existing Universal Endless Spells and added all missing ones
    • Architectures of Torture is now just for Nighthaunt grand strats and battle tactics
    • New section, Of Quire and Scribe, built out for the current battlepack
      • Right now it's only the new 2022-23 battlepack. If people would like I can add Contest of Generals since that's always going to be valid, and return Seasons of War: Thondia since that's the current narrative battlepack, but at the moment I had no plans to
    • Pointed out in Of Quire and Scribe that all wizards know the Realmsphere spell, even allies
    • Added Instant Black Hole Sun to the Consider Some Tricks section
      • Still looking for more dirty tactics and tomfoolery. Please submit your tricks and treats!
    • Several grammar and spelling fixes

I'm trying to be a better player, while not being able to play much. Here is the first video in my semi Vlog about taking Nighthaunt to an event this weekend. https://youtu.be/Hu7GX0YaSqY

Who am I top talk about Nighthaunt? No one really, but there is a lot of cool stuff out there and hopefully I can help someone (Anyone!) become a better player!

Hey, nice first go at it. I commented the same on the video itself.

I'm not able to offer more substantial feedback right now, I took a turn for the worse and am barely conscious right now, but it was nice to hear some NH content.

Mortals Terminexus was buffed by extending the range from 12" to 18"

Shyish Reaper and Vault of Souls have been nerfed considerably by removing all boni against terrified units.

Shyish Reaper doesn't get the +1 to beat the save characteristic anymore

Vault got double-whammy'd. It doesn't deal a Mortal on 5+ against terrified targets and after it explodes it's not d6+1 mortals anymore.

Was that really necessary? Nighthaunt have the single most expensive set of faction Endless Spells after the latest points adjustments

Is it not just a mistake and they've listed old scrolls accidentally? I've not had a proper look but are they just duplicates of the old scrolls?

I'm not sure if it's just copium but I have a pretty strong feeling this is exactly what happened. DoK spell also lost the changes they got in their new book

The Android version of the WH AoS app just updated, and the change log included the "Summer Update and all FAQs."

Though the search is now broken and crashes the app, manually looking up the Shyish Reaper under Nighthaunt still shows a terrified interaction.

The spell appears nowhere else in the app I can find. So I'd hazard a guess that the print was a mistake.

  7. Apologies for not being active here and not updating the guide for the new GHB yet, or sounding off on any asks that have been here. I'm currently COVID positive, and between that and my current work contract coming to an end, I've not been able to do much of anything else than slowly die miserably.

Now that the book's out, what are some of the takeways we can get from it?

  8. 4 hours ago, Boggler said:

    Yeah.

The big thing for the Battle Tactics is that my opponent won't be scoring an extra point with a Monster anymore. It really hurt Nighthaunt to be down a point from Ferocious Advance (Run 3 Monsters), Not be able to do Broken Ranks, Bring It Down, or Slay The Warlord for a bonus point. Not even be able to do Monstrous Takeover!

We're in a good place. The Battle Tactics are way easier for us compared to before.

You're not a true Nighthaunt player until you play the army live. You have to experience the barrel of Monkeys style latching on of model on model on model that happens consistently with literally all of our units every time you move them. And sure, Spirit Hosts are a pain in the ass to assemble, but they are super low maintenance after that...

God. Super finnicky, fragile, tiny thin appaendages and weapons sticking out all over tangling together, with often one teeeeny wisp connecting them to their bases 🤯

I got that beat. Not only do I have to deal with all the spindly bits, but I've magnetized my entire army. Can you imagine what happens if you happen to lift a Chainrasp and accidentally get too close to the next one? You know how in TTS you can shake a selection of models and they bunch together? That. That happens. A lot. In real life.

So I asked Midjorn ey what it thought Lady Olynder would look like pretending to mourn for her lost lovers. Here are a few results.

Here are a couple others with different prompts. Unfortunately, I've taxed out my free allotment of pictures, so that's it for now.

Okay after some tweaking of lists, reading of rules and playing my first game with the ghosts (tts) they play way differently to sbg and I love it.

They're *so fast* and manoeuvrable with retreat and charge. Olynder had put in work.

The chagr ability they all get is tasty. I've only played one game but already feels like cheap screens and landing your charges is even more important with the ghosts.

Ethereal is still sweet. Was thinking 4+ ethereal won't be as great now everyone has such easy access to save stacking, but it's nice being able to just not care about what rend is coming in.

My chainrasps suffered. I think msu or bigger blobs is needed in the new ghb.

Black coach is f***** awesome. Near enough always has 4+ ward and shooting 3d3 mortals and then d3 on charge is sick.

Welcome! And hopefully this is the first of a long line of great games with your new favorite faction!

Sorry, it's probably in the chat thread but I can't find it. What's the interaction between mortis engines and coven thrones and how does this relate to night haunt?

They don't. It's just a hold back from before Nighthaunt were their own army. In Legions of Nagash all vampire, undead, and ghosts were together, and so the kit that could be built to be the Mortis Engine, or Palanquin, or Coven Throne were put together based on what you wanted to play. The Mortis Engine was very much aesthetically and power-wise a great unit to have with other Malignant ghosts.

Once we got our own battletome we expected the Mortis Engine to come along with it. We got the Black Coach instead, which is beautiful, but always missed that this thing couldn't be used in our army.

Now that Soulblight is their own book, we have allies in the faction, but the warscrolls have to be a benefit on their own since a lot of the abilities won't work between fractions. And the Mortis Engine sucks outside the Soulblight. But the Coven Throne is pretty good.

I have a use for Covetous Familiar!

It's perfect for a hero that is close to Harridans. Doesn't even need to be directly babysitting them or be engaged with the same enemy unit. It's 6" for Harridans to smell the blood of the living and Covetous Familiar deals a guaranteed mortal wound (instead of something like needing a 2+ roll).

For allies I can also recommend the Coven Throne. These fine ladies have the Malignant keyword, come on James...

Anyway, everything it does is completely self-sufficient and doesn't need other Soulblight units to function. She brings a very strong spell to the table that makes her untargettable for one unit that opens itself for all kinds of shenanigans.

Now she also has 25 weak attacks. Nothing to write home about. But than there is her Command Ability, holy smokes. +1 to hit, +1 to wound and +1 to save. In Soulblight that would bring her attacks to an okay level, so they rather use it to buff a real combat unit. In Nighthaunt however she fights against units that get several minuses to save. And as they are debuffs on enemy units, her being an ally doesn't matter. I tried bringing her to friendly games just to accidentally see her soundly outdamage Kurdoss and a beefed up KoS combined. Oops

(On a more cynical note. I will never forgive Legions of Nagash back in the day using Reapers so much more efficiently than we ever could. Which forevermore raised their points costs while we continued to head down to the 3X% win rates. Now it's our time to make better use of their own units.)

That's a good take. Both of them, really. I'll read through it and add them to the guide.

Also, the core rules state you “can” roll a ward roll for each wound or mortal wound, meaning Reikenor can choose not to ward save his own corpse candle for that sweet +3 to cast now.

Is that true? I'll double-check and if so I'll add it to the guide.

  13. Guide update!

    • Did you guys catch that Reikenor's candles no longer target enemy models? Because I didn't. That's been updated throughout the guide.
    • Shadows Edge mistakenly had its trigger as a 6 to hit. It's 6 to wound. Rewrote the paragraph containing that interaction and consideration.
    • Reworded Vial of Manticore Venom to better illustrate its use.
    • Battle Regiment mistakenly said 1 Behemoth or Artillery when it's 0-1 Behemoth or Artillery.
    • Clarified the Knight of Shroud's attack-in-tandem effect.
    • Mentioned that the Black Coach's Soulreach Grasp's range coincides with its Evocation of Death ability, giving it a safe(ish) way to get a level or two.
    • Fixed several typos.

Random one for you ghost boys...

Thinking about collecting Nighthaunt. I already collect Soulblight, FEC, and Necrons in 40k... you can probably see a bit of a theme. I like 'undead style armies, love the new rules for Nighthaunt, seem super cool and thematic.

My question is - how do they play in comparison to my other armies who have a lot of 'tankiness' in terms of models coming back to life, whole units coming back etc.

Nighthaunt, from what I can see, only have the one hero (not including Olynder) who can regularly bring ghosts back - the little wizard dude, can't remember his name, and the mortalis terminexus endless which is quite pricey.

Do you feel the hits when your elite ghosts die, such as Bladegheists? One of my favourite things about soulblight is how it never feels too bad losing some Grave Guard, as they will come back anyway (unless fully destroyed - which still may come back half strength). Do ghosts have anything similar to this that I've missed?

I'm going to try some games on TTS and get a feel for them before I commit, but thought I'd come here too!

And to add on to what the others have already said really well, we do have a guide that gets into every ability and synergy we've got. Give it a look. And, since you're new to the Nighthaunt your feedback on it would be valuable.
