Would be nice if Lumineth had semi slave, at least serfs/vassals, made up by those formerly proud human realms of the wise. Arrogants being slaved by even more arrogant masters would be a cool Warhammer twist.

We'll see if this fits in with lore, but if they're called Realm-Lords without having some kind of auxiliary or cross-species army... wasted potential.

There's some talk of "a mix of Greece, Persian and Egyptian themes" in the aesthetics. Show them to be, because all I see is swirly designs clearly inspired by the new 40k Eldar look, and Greek-like crests. There's no Egyptian feel to anything (pyramids and sphynxes are not exclusive to the Egyptians, and one cannot say "a sphynx is Egyptian" unless said Sphynx looks like an Egyptian sphynx. It's like saying every dragon is Chinese, even if it doesn't look like a Chinese dragon).

That said, I don't dislike the general feel and look of the new elves. The basic troops look nice, but I'd rather they didn't have so many swirly bits. They promised pointy elves. For swirly elves, we have the fish elves already.

Not at home so these are quickly found pics, but it's definitely the feeling I get having played way too much Rome 2 and being a fan of that historical time period. Ptolemaic Egypt was a blend of those 3 cultures, and it's not a 1:1 aesthetic but it definitely seems inspired. Sphinx are best known from Egyptian and Greek mythology. Teclis' puffy pants are remniscient of Persian clothing.

The helm frills on the infantry = Greek hoplite plumes:

    Ptolemaic Companions, as historical figs:

    Successor Kingdom cavalry:

Also related: these Successor Kingdom Greeks (lords of...realms technically) would have been the elite soldiers of these armies. Persian, Greek, Egyptian cultures also had large focuses on knowledge and learning.

  2. From this post, it doesn't seem like The Arrogance is coming back--they pour their emotions into the aetherquartz. Interested in how their increasing aloofness fits in with Sigmar and the problems Stormcast forging has.

Greater enlightenment for the Lumineth came through harnessing the unique properties of aetherquartz, the Hyshian realmstone, in specially designed jewellery. They discovered that they could endlessly reflect the power of Hysh within this realmstone to empower the mind, body and soul. This did not come without a cost, for even as it offered illumination, the aetherquartz crystal eventually grew dim, and so drained the emotions of its bearer to restore its inner light. To the Lumineth, who sought perfection in all things, such a sacrifice was well worth paying, for emotion was a path to corruption… to Slaanesh.

  3. Gonna post my thoughts over from Rumours since it'll get lost there:

Teclis is giving off a pseudo-Egyptian theme here, Hysh art has some pyramid type monuments/buildings.

Sphinx are heavily related to Egypt in pop culture.

The spear troops have a Greco-aesthetic, the cavalry do as well (armor at least).

I'm going to guess that the rest of the Lumineth will have a Ptolemaic Egypt aesthetic. Again, hopefully this means that the Realm-Lords will include non-aelven and/or auxiliary troops--as a reflection of how diverse the Ptolemaic Kingdom's armies were.

  5. I don't mind Lumineth as a Hysh-descriptor, my pause is with "Realm-Lords" because this implies... hierarchy? Are they protectors like Stormcast or are they rulers? With a title like that, the Lumineth should be getting auxiliary troops that aren't aelven for sure.

I friggin love the troops' aesthetic, wondering if Teclis is due to the paint job bc his Sphinx is FANTASTIC.

Really hoping the box comes with archers or an elite type unit since High Elves were known for archery and cavalry.

I’m looking forward to seeing what actual troops of the army looks like. They are more important to me than a center piece special character. Allthough what we’ve seen of teclis is very promising.

100x this... I'm ready to immediately pre-order whatever box they release if the actual troops look cool and fun to paint

  7. This is mentioned every so often but I'll plug it again: to prevent GW hearing too much negativity about SCE, comment on facebook (and I guess twitter if they're active there too). Not sure if store managers can relay feedback but that might be an option?

Stormcast have the unfortunate effect of collecting the "posterchild" hate, which from what I can tell means that outside of competitive circles, they catch the most complaints :/

  8. i'm excited to see if there will be aesthetic-divisions among the Hysh aelves either between Tyrion or Teclis, or between Teclis' experiments!! I don't necessarily regret buying into SCE for AOS, but I have always regretted not going High Elves in WHFB... so I'm so pumped to see high fantasy high elves :D

It looks like a gutplate for a gargant considering the size of the skulls. It looks to piecemeal and shoddy even by Ogor standard (despite it all).

It also does not really fit with Ironjawz either, so the gargant rumor and other large strange objects in the rumor engine lately seems to fit this.

if they're dwarf skulls it could be an Ironjaws hero shield? Since dwarves are tiny compared to brutes

Just a nudge but can we get back to rumours please?

Think the next preview is the Las Vegas Open on 24th Jan which hopefully we will hear what other name the Pointy Aelves go by

    Let's take a look!

WHFB elves: Asrai (wood), Asur (high), Druchii (dark)
Are now Wanderers, Highborn, and Exiles

Teclis' created/saved aelves he named Cythai ("awakened"), before they morphed into Idoneth Deepkin

Morathi's created/saved aelves are called The Scathborn, but the units have -ai as names, not sure if they've got elven meanings. She also has leathanam which are "worker drones".

We have beast aelves named Kurnothi after the hunting god Kurnoth, who is a combination of Kurnous and the other elven god I can't remember right now.

I think the Hysh aelves will have a name that Teclis gave them, especially since his first try failed. Now my guess, is that the faction name will be an aelven word--the question is what is related to "awakened"? Maybe they'll be "The Ascended" instead, since this is Teclis' successful magic?

If the aelven name is based on Hysh itself, we have some main components of the realm to go by: logic, reason, symmetry,  and aetherquartz as their magical resource means geometric and crystalline aesthetics for the realm.

GW may separate the faction title from the aelf term like DOK, of which I think it will have something to do with this "Lumination" that the wiki mentions. But Idoneth are both faction and race name so it's really up for grabs I guess... I'm dying over this wait y'all

    (inb4 they're still called Cythai)

According to many retailers the Paladins box is being taken off store shelves, to be either moved to direct only or discontinued entirely. I wonder if this means we will get a new Start Collecting?

The full sprue box, or the original Start Collecting? Seems weird to take a whole kit off, but maybe the lack of sales from them being blech are showing...

Do we think "Pointy Aelves" will include any older models (not talking squatted ones, just current ones)?  Bonereapers included Morghasts so I'm wondering if Pointy Aelves might include Phoenix Temple or something.

judging from the teaser video, I would guess yes. Even the Teclis model they silhouetted looks similar in style to his WHFB model, albeit BIGGER because God.

  13. My local store owner hadn't seen the New Year's reveals when I stopped in the day after to ask about it, but he did say releases are usually ~3mo after model reveals. Since we only got concept art........ hopefully the models are shown in February so we can get our hands on these light aelves in time for the sun's return to the Northern Hemisphere.

Orks have claws, and the watch and binoculars look imperial not Orky. I think it might be Catachan.

the bulging muscle doesn't seem very human to me though looking at it a second time, I do agree the binocs look Imperial. But why redo Catachan when us Guard peeps have been asking for literally anything else besides Cadia/Catachan plastic sculpts...
