    true but lets say protectors you run 10/15 with them.. And charge them head on into a unit. 9/10 times when i did this for the last 100 matches or so the starsoul maces did most of that job. those extra hits felt oke and yeah i used CV +CP al the time because i could do it but never felt the need of giving these protectors more attacks. Cannot really think of 1 game i played where this matterd. Cause starsoul maces.. On decimators its even worse because even against hordes i always felt they underperformed. 40mm bases and terrein and screens. This units is 9/10 times just a protective meatshield for my 10 protecters and trying to keep people from objectives instead of killing power. 

    Not sure in practive you want to spend x amount of cp just for that extra attack on paladins.

    Why? you can give +1 attack with celestial vindicators aswel and +1 attack on the decimators or protectors isnt that big of a deal. Its decent but not going to spike that damage.

  3. Rip staunch runelord my gosh. Felt good playing it while i could.

    But damn dissapointed about waiting the whole month and hyped up with these meta watch stuff only to see no point changes.

    Sure, some armies will just obliterate 120 wounds very quickly, but with some smart placing (tagging the corner of units) even just blocking them in their deployment, a situation like: your turn 1 -> their turn 1 -> their turn 2 (your 120 wounds are dead) -> your turn 2 -> your turn 3 can lead to victory (after going through those 120 wounds there's still 60-80 more holding objectives).  More importantly, and this is the reason why I wanted to try this style, armies based on shooting and magic will only have their own turns to do damage so, for instance, I had a lot of success against lumineth: those 30 mortal wounds per turn would have been a disaster for an elite build (and they outrange even raptors), but with this build it was no big deal, and they have no teleport or flying. Another appeal was to be hero-agnostic: I am tired to imagine strategies which only work in the unlikely event of keeping those 5/6 wounds heroes alive for more than 1 turn.

    The biggest problem are unwinnable battleplans (like the ones that pjetski mentioned). On that I have no answer other than thinking: hey, this is better than losing 2 Stardrakes in one turn 100% from mortal wounds.

    im still trying differant lists every week. But most of the people i play just nuke these 2x30 or 1x30 liberators. The closest games i had right now is  stormkeep patrol on an objective and try to hold it of and not alpha striking. But i cannot help but hate that i feel like taking 9 longstrikes to even give my liberators a chance.. I love lib bombs but if i cannot take wizard or other mortal wound spam dudes out quickly these games are over before i can hit turn 3.  Most games where over when i got double turn against me. Where i skyborne slayers it doenst matter because i can keep stuff of the board. In stormkeep patrol im already engaged closely turn 1 and open for a double turn against me. This is the biggest weakness i fase most of the games. 

    We do however got a lot of potential with this battalion if we get any buffs in a new sce book or aos 3.0. Immagine liberators being stronger baseline then stormkeep patrol can finely do them justice. 40mm bases have to mean something because right now its just preventing me from getting enough attacks through to hurt people.

    Fasing a katakros bonereaper list tonight. with my 30 libs/9 longstrikes.

    I'm starting to think that the 2017 battletome with those wonky stormhost battalions and Aetherstrike was actually the best time to play Stormcast.

    Always when i read trough this old battletome i miss it so badly, yes it was wonky at best but in recent times it would make for some fun playz. That harbringer chamber concept was something i loved deeply. Today it would be good but not as opressive how it used to be because today people have insane tricks and damage aswell.

    i feel you, i played bretonnia since 5th al the way up to 8th. It was an uphill battle every time. The one thing i had going for me on tournaments is that i was the only bretonnia player at our tournament scene and most people never played them so made mistakes where i could play into. But damn the love was zero i got from GW.  Now with SCE i really hope we dont get another chamber and sigmar model or other bullsjit. I just want our book the be more balanced around the differant chambers. Fix the battalions and make battalions worth investing into. Stay strong to the theme of the chambers and let specific characters buff chamber units. Then we got a book with a lot of options with a lot of themes going on. With this book there is put zero effort into the oldschool models/battalions and the newer battalions and sacrosant units dont really work well together or getting outclassed by other stuff. Morathi book was a start but damn i still have to win my first game with a stormkeep patrol battalion.. 0-9 atm using differant tactics. Even my stormkeep garrisson did better. 

    We got so much potential for a new book i just hope our new book is more about internal fixing then bringing out more stuff

    Cool theme, but the first problem i see is not being able to put these ballista in the sky really hurts them. Almost to the point of not taking them.

    Beyond the problems with screening and mobility, ballistas really suffer from losing the ordinator to the usual suspects which are good at hero sniping -considering that he might even be without lookout sir depending on where you have to drop the ballistas group- which makes them even more swingy + with the defensive eels having unrendable 2+ even clearing screens isn't really a done deal

    have to agree on this. Not sure if the incoming pointchange would matter at this point. We really need an overhaul.

    oke but to advice playing a whole other battalion with a lot of differant units in it is  a bit wierd. Its like playing another army because none of the poster his units are on the skyborne slayers format. And i dont believe skyborne slayers would beat giants that easy. Dok can be done but is not easy.

    Nice write up! and i do really like your list!. The game against sons was pretty much over when you faced them off in that senario. And dont worry i couldnt beat them with my skyborne slayers list on that senario even if i rolled well with 20 protectors. Super tough so dont feel to bad about losing that one.

    Morathi is hard but i feel like with your list you got some nice tricks aswell. The one thing you suffer is not going to choise who goes first against that list. If im right your higher drops and he alpha shoots most stuff of the table turn 1 where in your turn 1 your got this filthy morathi on your lines. Trust me when you play that list with your list a few times you might beat his ass;)

    Lord relictors: i love and hate this character. Love it when i make those 3+ and he teleports al over the map and heals, debuffs of shoot stuff off. But damn i got many games he did nothing so in my competative games i take a lord vexillor just for that ones per game treat.

  14. Alpha strike you can prevent when you take screens. Right now i see a lot of lists that dont bother taking screens. That means alpha strike lists play well into these lists. 

    I come from 5th edition whfb and i can tell you.. Balance was horrible there. Deamons where though but dont get me started on Elves. GW has always something with making Elf units really good. in 6/7 and 8th if i remember correctly Elfs where domination our local clubs. That always strikes first was horrible to play against. I played and played against them and even Elf into Elf was kind of sad. Right now i do feel the powercreep a little when i see newer units getting easy acces to ranged mortal wound output. For me thats the most horrible part of the game because i like the combat stuff. But with the double turn still in play i can do some stuff against it and over the years i learned to play with less netlists and more lists that favor my playstyle. Even with a weaker army i manage to do well. Sometimes the gamble on the double turn and sometimes to place screens so that if i get a double turn against me it wont hit me that hard. At my local game group most players that came from whfb love the balance of age of sigmar because we feel more balance now then we felt back in those days and the double turn is not something we hate. Games are hardly over at turn2/3 ( sometimes yes against heavy magic/shooting when you get double turned the game can be over very quick) but most of the times the games are close till turn 5. I try to ignore our experience from aos -1 because that was horrible and summons dominated everywhere. 

    remember this game is all about objective play. Even weaker units can do great on some senario's

    Strategy castle build as before with the fyreslayers all together near the middle. 1 Arkanaut unit on each side, one with thundrik and his mates and the other with veritant and the dog. Magmadroth can go where he wants but needs to avoid being smashed by something silly, other than that he's very survivable with the fyrewall and battlesmith occasionally falling in range. The gunhauler, brokk and the endrinriggers sit in range of thundrik for his RR ones buff. I drop the runesmiter and HGB last just behind the vulkites as this really messes with opponents deployment as they expect the alpha strike.

    The list further confuses opponents as  the HGBs reputation makes people fear them, even in a blob of 10. The fyreslayers infanty havent been the part that dishes out the damage though. Brokk flying high with the gunhauler and riggers is terrifying with the reroll and the plus 1 to charge from the skyhook. I dont typically use this first turn as everything is too compact and i want to hit the valuable things so for the first couple of turns i will stay where i am or edge forward to get the ArCo on the objectives for their buff using the flamespitter to do a few mortals but little else. When they're a bit more stetched out then i start moving forward and drop brokk and the shock troops on one of the flanks, the riggers die to a stiff breeze but dish out horrendous damage with their saws, also dont shoot the unit you want to charge after flying high otherwise your charge roll needs to be higher.

    Typically i wait to be charged in more cases than i do the charge.

    Its all going quite well but with only one dispell i know a magic heavy build will rinse the small heroes on this army.

    Yeah i feel like this aswel. Its not that i hate every non GW model but these are way to much for me i ques. ;) not the most populair oppinion it seems. 
    Ive seen some of these lost kingdom lizardmen in IRL and they just didnt do it for me. Where others loved it. I know some of the models from GW are over the top aswel but not in the way these models are. But im glad others like them.

    i can understand people like these models but for me they feel way to much. There is so much going on in these models that they dont feel good in the age of sigmar vibe. For another game i might like these but with this setting i even like the way the old brets where over this.

    Maybe they can get additionnal rules depending on the type of general leading them, they are supposed to be the spine of every stormhost and some custom rules could really help them to adapt to the flavor of each type of stormcast army:

    -If a lord Arcanum is the general they get exploding hits (6's to hit deals 2 wounds.....magic thunder don't ask for more).
    -If a lord aquilor is the general they get +1 to run and charge.
    At 90pts for 10 wounds and a 4+ save they are pretty cheap and i like it that way, that's why minor buffs like this is a solution i'm hoping for.

    I like the idea of specific heroes work with buffs like this. I also love the chamber idea where specific unit combo's buff one another.
    I would like stormcast to be more expensive and are better on the board. I dont mind smaller units but they need to feel like a strong unit. For example i dont like a unit of 15 protectors but 15 do work wonders. I would love for 5 protectors to be expensive and be as strong as 8/10 are now. So we got a smaller army but unit do hit harder. I love my 30 libs but i feel im playing horde armies right now.

  19. I would have loved to be proven wrong and withness the 60 liberator bomb destroy tournaments for once. But as of now im struggling to see anything from the morathi book work.

    I 100% argee with Jhamslam that the garrison battalion doesnt really work in a competative point of view. Its to slow and the wholly within 12 inch is super anoying.

    i hope people make the stormkeep patrol work. Im trying my best to play with differant lists but as of now i cannot seem to make it work in my competative envoirment. I did try 60 libs. Failed to win 3 times. did try 30 libs 20 juds. Failed to win twice. Tomorrow im going for the 9 hurricane raptors. To look how that goes, list goes up to a 4 drop then. 

    If we get a new book what do people want for liberators? i feel like we want to be able to put some buffs on them to make them killy enough to do stuff. I think the basic liberator can be oke if we got acces to +1 rend or +1 damage buffs. ( ive tryed the vanguard wing but the damage on a 6 is just terrible). These guys are on 40mm they should be stronger.

  20. The one thing i notice right away is why the stormtower garrison ability. ill ques for lower drops and give the retributors +1 save. I did a 1 day tournament with it and went 2-1 but all three games i did notice its hard to keep the +1 save on the retributors and im really not sure its worth the 160 points.

    to get that +1 save you need to keep 1 unit of liberators wholly within 12 inch. Thats a unit Liberators in the bubble of the retributors. So it makes the retributors like 80/180 points more expensive on top of the battalion. And this all for +1 save. ( the +1 hit is okay but with retributors you want those mortal wounds anyway)
    Then the next question i have is why celestial vindicators. They only really help your consuccors because this is the only unit that can get a charge of and your lord celestant is with them. 
     

    I think my advice is: Drop the retributors and focus on more dracoths+ get an knight heraldor. Drop the battalion. If you're over 4 drops you might aswel go 11 drops.

    Or keep the retributors and build around them. From my limited experience you want a lord relictor with them to teleport them around so they keep that save and bump it up with a lord castellant. Els Retributors die faster then liberators. 

    10 liberators and even 15 without a lord castellant die super fast. Even with a 3+ save from not moving. They need support because they cannot fight there way out of stuff or survive over the rounds of combat.
