Finished up a set of phoenix guard and related heroes / champions recently. 29 models in total, certainly the most I've ever painted in a single batch... some fatigue when I got to all the gems! The units span 3 generations (4ED / 6ED / 8ED WHFB) and are irregular sizes because I cribbed them together from eBay lots, but as display units I love all their sculpts (even the old ones)!
Bonus: three heroes (Anointed, Caradryan and a generic hero with sword and shield) ready to lead the charge!

Painted up a White Lion Chariot in the same classic color scheme as the White Lions in the previous post. Happy with how it came out! Several assorted thoughts:
contrast made the manes incredibly easy (just diluted gryph charger grey) not super happy with the freehand on the banner -- I wish I had just done a simpler elvish rune -- but hey, you learn as you go this was my first time painting / assembling a vehicle. Overall it wasn't easier or harder than painting a character but all the subassemblies definitely made things more fiddly pinning is so important to get all the bits to stick together (the banner to the chariot, the lions to the milliput road, etc).

I got sick of batch painting and decided to paint up all the mages I had found through eBay or miniswap. Magical spell effects are one of the most fun things to paint!
And if you saw the first post (with all the Island of Blood models) and wondered where the archmage was, here's your answer...

Had a good time painting up a set of Dragon Princes and Silver Helms. Because these were scavenged from eBay, you'll notice that the Silver Helms carry a hodgepodge of all types of different shields, including a couple with Dark Elf shapes! I actually don't mind this and like the visual variety.

I've been in the hobby for just under two years now, so I have absolutely zero nostalgia for the old world. My first introduction to the classic High Elf range was actually when most of the range got squatted last July / August when the Cities of Sigmar book was announced. Reading through all the outrage, I realized I really liked the look of the range. That was the start of this journey to hunt down as many OOP High Elf kits and models as I could on eBay, FLGSes and other places...
Some of you may have seen me share paintjobs on Reddit (under the same username); I figured a TGA blog is just as a good a place to chronicle a longer term project!
One of the nice things about painting purely for display is that I don't need to bother with legal unit sizes or army lists. I just paint the models I enjoy in the quantities I enjoy! No spearmen in this army.
First up - Island of Blood / Spire of Dawn

Spent some time painting up both the old metal and the newer plastic incarnations of White Lions; very happy with the results!
The metal ones actually have a certain charm, especially in the way the pelts drape around the body, even if the single-piece side profile poses get a bit old. The plastic kit was spectacular; I'm sad that it's now OOP. As usual, there are way too many gems -- I count 14 (!!) on just the champion alone, but I'm good at painting batch painting them at this point.

Next up, the White Lion Chariot!
