  1. Btw do you guys think it's worth going host of the everchosen without varanguard?

    Something like:

Archaon -khorn - whispers of chaos
bel'akor -undivided - mask of darkness
    Choas lord -khorn
    Chaos sorverer lord - nurgle

    40x marauders -khorn
    5x knight - khorn - lances
    5x knights -khorn - lances

    Geminids of uhl-gysh
    Soulsnare shackles/prismatic palisade

    lots of shenanigans like :
    -1 attack/hit/wound
    movement ******/puppet
    Knowing who starts first
    Deepstrike marauders
    Buffing archaon

This is a thing that really mades me mad at any single game against Seraphon. They have all of the mentioned at a reasonable point cost, have access to flat D5 Weapons on their lizzards, have shooting, chaff, mobility, morale sheningans. Short said: They are a jack of all trades, having no downside. StD are quite narrow in what they can do (mostly you are tied to a gameplan due to the sublegion you choose) and it feels like many units were paing a premium for...what exactly?

Nevertheless, it is great that you picked up the game and made the best out of it! Your army looks fabulous and the rep was a goof read!

I don´t get the point here. You can use the Puppeteer-Ability when he is not you general, so what would be the difference in making him a general? But yes, the Ability is awesome!

It's exacly the same thing that makes me mad sometimes, especialy when the seraphon player saying i exaggerate. But this is where games workshop needs to act up in my opinion. Instead of once per year, balance stuff out more so people like to play the game without regretting picking a wrong army. No matter tho i gave it my best and i had a good time.

Your right i can just put in bel'akor, but it's hard without breaking PTW, maybe get out the manticore and get him in :)

Oh and thanks for the compliments on my army ! :D

  3. Dont be too harsh on my english please.

So i played my match vs seraphon yesterday.

I played with depsoilers and plaguetouch warband.

    Mark all nurgle ofc

-Deamonprince- axe- armour of tortured souls/radiance of dark glory
-Chaos lord on karkadrak - diabolic mantle
    -Sorcerer lord- mask of darkness
-Sorcerer lord on manticore- Call to glory
    -Chaos lord-Daemonbound s teel/reapersblade
    -15 Chaos warriors
    -10 Knights
    -5 Knights
    -5 Chaos chosen
    -Plaguetouch warband.

Battleplan: i dunno what it's called it was a new one from the 2020 handbook with 3 objectives in the middle of the board where you roll every turn which objective whould give you 3 points instead of 1.

Becouse i had a 2 drop army i was fishing for a double turn (sadly this never happend) and let the seraphon start the first round.  When we started the game my hopes were realy low couse i know seraphon is just a **** to play against. My opponent played Kroak and had 2 skinkpriest, one of them on a troglodon. First turn he got 4 command points off his allegiance ability and had +2 to cast on his kroak and +1 on his skinkpriests. He started of with some spells to buff some units but also managed to get off comets call (every ****** turn) spraying mortal wounds over my army, trying to pick of DP general/wizards. Over the progress of the game, having mortal wounds saves on most of my army this realy helps but still is nasty. He got off his ravenak's gnashing jaws turn 1 and put it in the middle of the battlefield in case i had a double turn. When it was my turn i moved in my army and had a unit of 5 knights to flank him from the side on one of the objectives(the one with the extra 3 points). Over the  course of the game he had been so lucky with where the main objective whould be places and i had to struggle to get points becouse of this.
When it was round 2 and he starded he deceided to move his army in with mostly saurusses and cast another geminids of uhl-gysh (damn nasty -1 attack/-1 to hit on those who got hit) And becouse his endless spells are bound as seraphon, there was little i can do and he could always moved them to his liking (OP LOL). I had only 2 wizards with 1 spell/dispell so i did not even bother to try to get them of the field becouse i knew he whould just cast them again next turn with maybe even more horrible consequence. From this turn on he whould also cast celestrial  deliverance from his kroak on a balewind to his priest on a troglodon. (spraying more MW jeej) He used his CP to buff his sauruswarriors to get +1 to hit/+1to wound and -1 rend? i'm not sure anymore. This is where i got supriced by the power of plaguetouch, even tho he ate 4 of my knights (1left) that where flanking  and had a ****** ton of attacks on my warriors. only 1 warrior died becouse of the reroll save rolls (i also had ocular vision on both my knights) but i did some dazeling MW back from plaguetouch woundrolls of 6 he did. Shrinking his Sauruswarriors ghehe. As it was my turn i charged in most of my units and whould use my chosen later (standing behind the  warriors in 3'' to fill the gap when those warriors whould die giving me reroll wound rolls for units in 12'') and tried to get most damage out. I parked my DP on a edge of the fight hoping to lure his heroes in with bloated blessings on himself.
From turn 3 as he started he took the bait with his carnosaur (in the end his carno kiled himself and we even had a debate about him choosing to attack or not lol) and from that point on it was just attacking from both sides every round. Both suffered losses, but in the end despite the nasty debuffs he gave me i prevailed with most units alive and some finaly getting some objectives (he had more models in the start making it hard to take objectives)
We ended up in round 5 having the same points and called it the day with a draw becouse it was such a lovely battle.

    So what are my thoughts?
-I think i did realy well overal with my first 2k army vs a verry skilled seraphon player.
    - Plaguetouch warband realy gave me a chance, dealing massive MW back to the attackers (whitout i doubt i stood a chance  + my rerolls on saves)
    - I had allot of luck on those heals from despoilers
    - I had low expectations of chaos warriors becouse of all talk people had about them ,but they did surprisingly well.
    - I think seraphon is in a better tier then slaves becouse of several reasons: they get so many command points (i had to spread mine over turns and even get an artifact for a extra D3), spellcasting is no match against seraphon's dispell over the entire map+ bound spells (realy realy strong), the +1/2 to cast, casting with kroak through skinkpriest. But especialy spraying mortal wounds over the map.. , Oh and not to forget -1 damage from EVERY attack on ANY dino.
    - I lost some units in the battleshockphase where my opponent just had command points ready for pretty much every battleshock test.
    - I feel like bringing my list to a tourney you are in for some real struggle against heavy magic lists, i'm not sure how well cabalist whould do. Or heck maybe a plaguetouch cabalist list?
    - I think bel'akor should maybe even be picked as general even if that makes you miss out a command trait, imagine using his puppet abilty on the turn you go into combat and use it on his kroak lol (or high value targets in other armies)

Ofcourse feel free to ask questions if you wanna know more :)

The ma in problem i have with ptw in STD is the following (i played half a dozen of games with it then dropped it):

You are paying 180 points in order to get:

-an extra artefact (since artefacts are not that great and realm artefact have been cut there isn't much to say, the only book artefact worth taking is diabolic mantle).

    - an extra CP: all good there

    - a bouncing MW on 6s to wound.

However you need to fill the 8 units requirements, you cannot include in it any Nurgle ally (Harbinger, lob) or STD daemon prince, warcry bands and such

The problem is that you come up with some min size unit that are nothing special.

I am not saying it is bad, i am saying that i think there is something better and more fun to play in this army.

Oh and btw it really is only good vs Saurus/Saurus guard, everything else in the Dino roster does not care about ptw.

The almost monodrop is nice tho. Is without a doubt the strongest marked battalion of the book

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I guess we will see now. I absoluty hate playing versus serphon, i never liked it. I think they are a bit on the overpowered side with there shenanigans. Normaly i pick my skaven army to rip them apart with my own shenanigans, but i wanna play with my slaves and see how they do.

I do think that sallies are still in, they will not be spammed like before but they still rock.

I do not particularly like ptw tbh. Seems hard to fit everything in and you do not include DP or other things in it.

tbh PTW is thing that gives your army even a chance, whitout it i say GL againt dino's. The thing that makes it worth its 2 drop and the mortalwound output when defending. Seraphon has near nothing against MW. So if i get attack by a blop of saurusguards with a lot of attacks or a carno it might delete my unit, but i all those woundrolls of 6 bite back. + a extra artifact for your battelion and spray D3 mortals on a 3+ might be just that extra you needed.

Fitting everything in is no problem at, especially now with the point drops. I have yet to paint my 40 marauders so i will use chaos warriors and knights mainly.

Because seraphon is in the meta with bastiladons and salamanders Nurgle becomes interesting as a mark of chaos. It will be almost impossible to snipe your herpes due to pitch black, -1 to hit from the general aura, -1 to hit from look out sir. From this after los check bastiladons are hitting herpes on 6s and everything else on 5s. Pretty useful.

The only thing that pushes Nurgle back is the nerfed daemon prince that right now is awful beyond imagination compared to the khorne one. In order to have paragon of ruin, aka the only despoilers trait you want, you need a prince that also becomes your general and the general aura in khorne/Nurgle is very important

Salamanders are out with 30 point increase lol. But jeh i agree on nurgle being best suited for the job.

I was doubting to go nurgle allegiance with a full slaves army + rogtigus for some extra mortal wounds. But i think there might be no point with +2 Dispell and unlimited dispell range from slannpriest in serphon. I might get 1 spell off, not worth it. So i will probely stick with our STD book and go for nurgle despoilers + plaguetouch warband.

  7. Hey guys, what kind of list do you think works best vs seraphon? heavy magic, -1 damage weapons becouse of the scales.  Nasty teleports etc.

Mainly talking desoilers now. Do you think go max damage khorn or like plaguetouch warband nurgle? -1 shooting from nurgle doenst matter this time becouse we play melee heavy.

I think plaguetouch can realy good since mortal wounds is a weakness of seraphon.

I know everyone talking about how to use S2D in Nurgle (or other god books) is Just attempting to show the viability of the units, and I completely agree, the units are 100% better suited for use in those books...

I just wish they made S2D book better, argh it’s so frustrating lol!  I wanted it to be it’s own stand alone book and not a supplement.  Oh well, guess we will have to wait until the next S2D book release.

I dont think our book is bad, i think you should keep your options open/be openminded what you can do with STD units. They can be used in many armies (lucky us).

  9. A bit nurgle related but since we are talking about it anyway,

Let me give you a example for buffing a slaves army: Rotigus/sorcerer-plague squall/Rampant Disease spray tons of mortal wounds over the entire battlefield (no range limits) Have epidemius in your army well protected (when you killed 14 enemy models) you will have reroll hit/wound rolls of 1 on your entire army.

Make a big units of knights (or multiple) together with the chaos lord on karkadrak as mentiont above, buff your knights with his CA,  fecund vigour gives you 1 to wound roll if you have it on your cycle of corroption.

You can even put in a plaguetouched warband if you feel like it.

Khorn might give you more oopmf but nurgle has some realy good magic and some other tricks up it sleeve. Just try it out ;)

    What? What artefact.

Exuse me, i ment that command trait.

The command trait i was talking about was cirulent contagion : improve the rend characteristic by 1 for attacks made your general in the combat phase

Rustfang is for rotbringer heroes. So not for slaves mortals.

However you can use the The carrion dirge artefact to subtract 2 from the bravery of enemies in 12'' bubble. Together with knights/Mindstealer sphinx this can be devestating vs armies that are sensitive for battleshocks.  You could even take Hideous visage: subtract 2 from the bravery characteristic of enemy units while they ware whitin 3'' of your general.

@Gistradagis I play both slaves and nurgle and i can tell you that Slaves in a nurgle army (especialy with the new point reduction of our knights/chaos lord on karkadrak) is actualy realy powerfull with the right list and has way more damage output then the slaves book with the right list. To not even forget the summoning you get to obtain objectives end game instead of having to send units to it.

  11. 24 minutes ago, Grimrock said:

Yeah if the shadowblade still existed I'd say that the Karkadrak discount was amazing, but without it I really don't think he has any place. Without any rend on the halberd his average damage is absolutely abysmal for his points, even as a general with the mark of Khorne. The only way I can see him working is in ruinbringer but even then I don't think he'll put in enough work to make up for his cost. Too bad since I love the model, but I don't think I'll be using him again outside of the Khorne alleigance where he can still get some functional command traits and artifacts.

He is actualy realy good in nurgle, they have a artifact that gives him -1 rend extra on all his weapons

  12. I haven't said a bad thing about our battletome so far. I like the book but i agree it's not 100% there yet and need a little fixing. I can especialy feel with the whole topic about chaos warrios, they just dont feel great bringing them along, but they are battleline, iconic and should feel better. i feel like giving them reroll save rolls from the start whould make them feel a bit more usefull, instead having to have 300 points for 15 in a unit that feels bad. Or atleast, give them rerolls from the start if they are in 18/12 range of a hero for example.

All we can hope for is that the devs are reading these posts and bring some love to our most elite units, which let's be honnest we all like to bring to the table without having regrets.

That being said, i also think becouse of the corona crisis most things got delayed.. aswell as warhammer stuff. they measure the strenght of armies with tournaments, those were on a halt.  so let's just wait a little longer and see how we wil end up when a FAQ comes out :)

  13. Oh jeh, and bloab whould also be cool and give you some more vallue in the later game. possibly you could get in him in for sorcerer + lord of blights?

From experience if you want more chaos warriors it has to be atleast 15 or it will be kinda useless

  14. 1 hour ago, meatpipeline said:

I like what you are doing here.  Pull the enemy towards you with MW, then smash them with charges.  Also, you'll want to use Rotigus to set the wheel every turn for more mortal wound output.  So basically, you are focusing on two things:

    - Long range mortal wound output

    - High damage charges with Chaos Knights, Chaos Lord

There are two places that I think are room for improvement.

Lord of Plagues - His command ability isn't worth it.  (if my math is correct) 7d6 aiming for 6s, there is 27.9% of 0, 39% chance of 1, 20% of 2, 10% chance of 3.  This isn't much better than an Arcane Bolt.  Plus you want to be using the Chaos Lord's command ability every turn to smash with the Knights.  I don't think he fills the role well.  I would rather have a Lord of Blights in this spot.  He has a good shooting attack and gives your BKs shooting as well, increasing their overall threat range.  I would ignore his command ability.

Horti - I never want to build around "getting lucky" with my lists.  The question I would ask myself is what am I using summoning for: damage (Plague Drones) or holding objectives (PB, Nerglings).  If I'm aiming to summon Plague Drones for damage, I want them down on turn 3 which means Horti is valuable (3D3 by turn 3, average 6 pts).  This makes it far more likely to get 21 points by turn 3.  If you are going for objective holders, I'd skip Horti.

As for replacing Horti, I can think of a few interesting / non-standard ways to go:

    - Epidemius , use remaining points for 70 pts trash screen allied from STD

    - Chaos Lord on Demonic Mount, use remaining 100 pts for more Chaos Warriors

    - Ally in Karanak (hard hitting, decent movement, adds summoning), use remaining 130 pts for ???

I think the Chaos Lord on Demonic Mount route is the best.  You get the same command ability as the other Chaos Lord, which means you have more freedom of movement with both Lords and can still use it if one dies.

I'd like to add that Bloab Rotspawned is a mortal wizard, so another source of Plague Squall.  He's more durable than your Sorcerer and Miasma of Pestilence is really good with the number of phases you wound in (Hero, Spell, Shooting (with LoB), Combat).  I'll have to ponder this a bit more...

Hey, thanks for replying and thinking with me :) !

I like the idea of swapping in lord of blights for the lord of plague.

Down to summoning, i indeed like the idea of having a extra unit of drones coming down the moment you wanna have that extra punch, i have to say i also realy realy like the idea of epidemius. Think about it, those mortal wounds you spit out at the start of the game to fill the tallyman effect, do you think 7/14 points are easy to get (meaning you have to kill those amount of models of your enemy)  ? I guess that realy depends who your fighting with (sons of behemat RIP haha). But rerolling wound and hit rolls of 1  on your knights... oef.

Personaly i dont have karanak + the units he summons. It whould not be my first choice.

I guess swapping in the chaos lord on demonic mount for karkadraks gets you 80 point extra, and maybe taking out lord of blights for 140, for epidemius could be a good option? that leaves you with a total of 70 points to do w/e tho. or just horti out for epdiemius. I realy like karkadraks with the artifact tho. having that extra rend on all his weapons is realy sick imo.

I will prolly test one of these build out soon with some competitive playing friend and see how it works out. :)

  15. 48 minutes ago, Hannibal said:
    • I think you´re still including to many weak units like Lord of Plagues and the plain and simple sorcerer.
    • You gain 40 pts by point reductions. If you really want to get most out of the new points, you should include more of the points reduced stuff like more Blightkings, Lord of Afflictions,...
    • I lost all my battles due to not beeing able to dish out enough damage. I cannot see how your list will solve this problem.
    • IMO you need speed to get the best possible scenario play. Speed is also important when it comes down to summoning which is another base of good scenario play.

    Thanks for replying :)

You have to look at the whole picture here and the point i'm making with unlimited *  range. I don't think a plain sorcerer with plague squall for 120 points is weak.  Lord of plague could deffo get switched out, i like to hear what you think whould fit in better.

Ofcourse i can make a list with blightkings etc. like 9/10 lists are or have been. That was not my point. I want to try to make a competive list without the regular battelions or with lots and lots of blightkings.

Dishing out damage is gonna be even more of a pain  now with the new rule of having a max of 2 saves.

Ofcourse if summoning is your thing, you can go for a full demon list of body bags, but with this list you actualy have some damage.

  16. With the point changes in the new handbook i was looking what could be done with nurgle and came up with a list.

    Heroes:

    220 Horticulous slimux

    320 Rotigus -glorious afflictions

    120 Sorcerer -plague squall

    140 Lord of plagues

    General:

250 Chaos lord on karkadraks (mark of nurgle) -Virulent contagion/The carrion dirge

    Battleline:

100 Chaos warriors x5 (mark of nurgle)

300 Chaos warriors x15 (mark of nurgle)

    140 Putrid blightkings x5

    Other:

360 Chaos knights (mark of nurgle) (prob. lances)

    Spells/CP:

50 Purple sun of shysh/Aethervoid pendulum/CP (whatever you think works best)

    2000/2000

you get 40 extra points from the recent point changes on rotigus/blightkings

So the idea here is as followed:

First of all you got a pretty substainable army but with more damage output then your usual nurgle list.

With the extra gnarlmaw from slimux you can get some realy good summoning out if your lucky. Also forcing your opponent to get in and block gnarlmaw for contagion points. Chaos knights can be realy realy powerfull together with the chaos lord + his command ability and the +1 rend on the chaos lords weapons and the -3 bravery (you could also change the +1 rend for Hideous Visage artifact for a -2 bravery for a total of -5 bravery bomb, but i like more punch)  And ofcourse make good use of the run+charge from gnarlmaws when possible.

When the deploying the idea is to drop your rotigus/sorcerer/lord of plagues last, having plague squall and deluge of nurgle with endless range you can spray allot of mortal wounds on the battlefield, and having lord of plagues top it of if within 21" of a enemy for some extra.
With some luck of rampant disease you can deal allot of mortal wounds around the field.

You can use the warriors as a good blocker with the reroll on saves (the  15 unit) and use your blightings together with the lord of plague for rerolls

Weakness of this army is facing armies with lots of healing/raise units back.

    Let me know your thoughts.

this is what they did say:

Like in last year’s edition, we’ll be ensuring that armies released after the General’s Handbook went to print (that’s everything since Cities of Sigmar) will have their matched play profiles updated for free with a set of downloads in the very near future.

Thanks man, i guess we wait and see!

Alright. After seeing the changes made to Cities of Sigmar I highly doubt GE gets that Std are in trouble AT ALL.

the two worst offenders of Cities remained untouched (Wizard on Griffon and Sorceress in Dragon) - wth?

What will be the Point changes for Chaos then? -10 pts for a spawn and -10 pts for the chariots?

Where did you see changes being made?

@Jonko thanks for the reply! Nah not looking for an S tier army, more so one that just doesn't get tabled and can hold its own.

Ill have to suss the tome and see if anything catches my eye then! I really love the chaos knight models.

Np @RUNCMD ! Same here! If the leaks are true and they will be 160 points they are realy beast. Lets hope so.

Anyway: STD has always  been about heroes that buff the other units, if that's a playstyle you like you're good. With the new book they realy gave the new heroes allot better defense, i realy like this.

If you want more shooty armies you have to go skaven imo (which is my other army) Slaves is pure punch and shields.
