Was a hard matchup. I would have lost easily.

The lack of monster slayer makes life hard for Dark Elves.

    I faced a Tomb King on Dragon (4+, 4+, 5+) -> completely immortal

a Necrosphinx, two Scorpions, a Giant, 2 Blocks of Skeletons, each with a Necrotect,  one mage Lv4 (hieropant), one mage lv 1, and a tomb prince

I can’t deal enough damage to deal with the skeletons, my DE dragon has no chance to kill his, even after killing the Hierophant nothing crumbles due to the King‘s LD 10 bubble.
Every skeleton unit is an elite unit with hatred and +1 attack. And he heals on top of it all while 3 units have both killing blows. It’s not easy to get rid of the Necrotects as well.
It’s savage honestly no clue what to do about it as DE except for spamming Witch Elves and pray xD

    Any ideas?

Can always give your dreadlord on dragon the dragon slaying sword then go round and pick off his big stuff.

    Edit

Just built this as a monster killing army. Big weakness is no magic but the tag team of the 2 dragons should take down the bone dragon sphinx and giant easily.

The corsairs being open order, scouting dark riders and harpies are super mobile and should be able to dance around the slow undead and get in the way to allow your dragons free reign.

Bolt throwers to pepper the enemy and the bloodwracks are a bit of fun and the stony stares should cause some damage to I 1 troops, frenzy could be a pain tho. Saying that, both charging into a skeleton unit and either dark riders or corsairs in the flank could do alot of damage.

Could be a fun list to use or maybe fall flat on its face lol.

Received my job lot of Dark Elves yesterday. Now I've got to decide how to build them, starting with the basic Warriors.

My feeling is that Bleakswords aren't worth it compared to Dreadspears in TOW (which is great as spears look more like proper weapons of war than one handed swords). The question is how many Darkshards did I build out of my 60 warriors, and his many Dreadspears?

I would do 20 spears and 20 crossbows for sure.

Not sure for the other 20. I don't see more than 20 crossbows being useful due to space on the tabletop and I'll rather use the points of a 2nd unit of spears on other combat units.

It's such a no brainer to do isn't it. Even something as simple as using foot knight heads on old mounted knights will add a lot. Go a step further and you could go a long way to making the old kits feel fresh.

This. I'm having a ball building armies from old models and mixing in new one or just using AoS models but I don't want to do anything with the brets I got in the army box until I get the new knights on foot and switch and swap heads and weapons and such.

I'm can see the logic of not releasing the 2nd wave of stuff when some people haven't received the 1st wave yet. I wonder if they are producing extra stock.

  4. What are the expectations for tonight's coming next week article?

TOW maybe? Still have the rest of the bretonnians and tomb kings to be released.

I doubt DB 5 will be announced with DB 4 only hitting shelves yesterday.

    Maybe underworlds?

I got to play another game with my Winterheart Wood Elves. 1000 points again vs a clubmate's Ogres (again on a 48x48" table). We had to use 2d terrain as we were playing at his place on Friday evening (the dads' hour). We got to learn some more rules and I experimented on purpose with blocking/redirecting charges with the eagles with a 50% success rate :D Poisoned arrows and a surprisingly good performance from the Shadowdancer (lucky killing blows really hurt against such expensive models) carried my Wood Elves to the victory.

My opponent had basically two units (Bulls+Wizard and Ironguts+Tyrant) and a lot of points in chracters (almost 50%). My main concern, of course based on an extremely limited experience, is that the Wood Elves playstyle might not be the most engaging for my opponents. I'll see if the feeling is confirmed when we climb to 1500/2000pts and in case I'll just run more melee (and die)

Took a couple of pictures but the lighting was very bad:

Did you take special arrows on all your units? Been playing with some army lists and trying to figure what goes best with what.

Been thinking the - 2ap on glade guard, no penalty to move and shoot on glade riders and poisoned on waywatchers or maybe the multiple shot ones on them.

    Thoughts?

After 10 long years of painful absence, after watching my Old World Destroyed and watching the Beauty of that Lore Strewn across the universe like fragments of fleeting star dust, never to be seen again save through glimmers of bejewelled Light in an ever expanding void.

I thought I would never again set foot on the sands of those shores, nor would I venture in quests and journeys through those Woods and Forests. To set foot in the Lowest Dungeons and Hail from it’s tallest peaks. It is good to see you once more, my Old Friends.

Was wondering if the sloggoth would work for a chariot and fantastic news to see it does!!!

I think the artst of those pics I shared converted a good portion of the spears to face upwards.

I'm curious if the  killaboss vulcha or Gobsprakk would fit as a wyvern.

    Looks damn good though, @Ogregut

Edit: Also thought about converting up a gore grunta sorta of like a mini maw grunta with a kruleboy rider and an orruks on each side as a chariot.

Edit x2: I'd absolutely love to use the mirebrute but he's just such a beefy boy. Maybe a giant but too small and lose troll rules.

Yeah, the age old problem of ranking up! Even with 30mm bases. These are the easy to build gutripperz, I think I'll make a couple of unit fillers, that should help with the awkward spears.

Going to use Hobgoblins as normal goblins and the boss on the wolf/dog creature (forget it's name) as a warboss on chariot.

The vulture would be great as a wyvern, not sure about the base tho.

I thought about the mirebrute as a giant.

I have a mirebrute and vulture 0ainted in my kruleboyz army so I'll have to get them out to see if they are suitable for TOW.

I've having so much fun building old world armies, got a load of old chaos warriors having a bath in paint stripper at the moment and a box full of 4th edition wood elf metals crying out for new bases!

What really bothers me is that even with this massive billion dollar corporation the real reason they're going is that there isn't someone at GW who likes them enough. At least not anyone with sway. It seems like some armies are just some designers favorite and beasts are fittingly unloved by the fickle gods.

That just doesn't make any sense. If (and it's a big if) beasts are going extinct it will be based on financial motivation not sentimentally.

Beasts of chaos are the last army that doesn't have IP protectable names, Skaven are a GW invention and ogres are now ogors etc.

I can see them getting a big overhaul with new models and new protectable names.

I really hope this is the case as I'll love to see what GW come up with.

Actually, I’m pretty sure they had good intel on Dwarfs… just got the reveal date wrong. I’ve got reasons other than the leaked dice to expect Dwarfs will be one of the next TOW releases.

Well it's a one in six chance lol.

Makes sense to be dwarves to follow the greenskins as natural enemies.

We're on a 2 week preorder window (which is really annoying for me personally) so it wouldn't surprise me if they updated the app on the saturday after this one.

Ah yes, forgot about the 2 week preorder window now. Good catch.

I'm considering an Os & Gs army but only using Kruleboyz and a few gitz models.

I saw a post on reddit like this and they looked amazing. Just need a calvary kit. Snarlfang work but need orcs!

This is not my work but it's really nice. 👍 I'd give credit but don't know the painter.

Printed Highlands dwarfs & Brets, painting the former as I wait for the Bret launch box to get the book & peasants.

I'm seriously considering beginning a third army, and I'm split between Ogres, TK & WoC.

As other people have noticed on the internet, painting comparably less detailed R&F models (compared to contemporary 40k & AoS units) did wonders to my painting motivation

    IMG_20240128_001847.jpg

Yep, I'm whizzing through the basic gobbos and they still look good ranked up.

EDIT: so a rough inventory to complement the potato pics

    • 32 glade guards
    • 20 eternal guards
    • 10 waywatchers
    • 10 wardancers
    • 5 glade riders
    • 5 old wild riders
    • 5 new wild riders
    • 11 driads
    • a couple of heroes in metal (Spellsinger, Waystalker, Highborn noble?, BSB, BSB on horse?)
    • two metal treemen

Oh wow, that's a awesome haul!!!

A fun thing to do is to create your own book of grudges based on games you play. Back in the day I used it create my own lore around my Dawi army. Basing in on battles, I added short lore snippets. In a way, your local meta shapes your hold's history. My opponents appreciated it as well (especially those who beat me regularly :D).

Pretty sure it's the law to create a Book of Grudges when you're a dwarf player lol.

I'm awaiting confirmation of the beastmen are gone from AoS rumor so I can find out whether to rebate on squares or converters but other than that my beastmen are ready to go minus painting up some Ghorgon and finishing some Ungor raiders I think I'm fully painted. I've also got an old wood elf army to run too so all in all I'm stoked for the old world!

Beastmen and wood elves, the classic match up!

Maybe, however if you look at the quantity and weight of the shipping (1423 Box and 4021K) I suspect its more smaller kits along the lines of The Old World or Lord of the Rings. Thats only if you look at the average weight of the items.

Going back to the one I'm excited about, which is 24737 BOX and 7842K, it screams boxed game to me. :D

I'm guessing it's the old stuff, the bret and tomb king army boxes and all the releases that went with it.

I have already shared in this thread, but I am working on a Winterheart Wood Elves army (The Winter Court) with the self-imposed challenge of not buying any new models. So it's basically a recycling project for stuff I am not using. The latest addition is a block of Eternal Guard made with Oathmark Elves and ASOIAF Free Folks:

bending my own self-imposed rules just a little bit, today I'll swap some of my Eldars for a box of old-ish Wood Elves from a clubmate. It's basically a mystery box so I'm curious to see what's inside :D

Haha, love a mystery box, please post what you get!!

I have quite a lot of projects going on parallel. I got a bit of headstart on ToW as I got back to WHFB 6th edition already '22 summer after playing couple of games with a friend that had been on a long break from miniature games (since 6th ed basically).

    The current status of each:

-Vampire counts, I just got 2000 point army completed start of Winter. Calculated my models and it's now 1900 points, so I have to do some strengthening. Warghulf is surely one thing that I'll add now when it's available in the army list.

-Wood elves, For these I have been steadily adding units. The models are all 5th edition or older. Just finished some archers and a wardancer command from Grenadier.

-Dwarfs, my original army, dug them out after a long while and even got a game already, painted some miners and currently doing a block of ironbreakers. Had collected surprisingly many models for them since the last game...

-Lizardmen, no plans yet, but I have around 80 metal saurus to add at some point

-Chaos, mostly Beastmen that I have been painting originally for 6th over the winter. Just agreed a first game for them tomorrow. I also have a small warrior detachment that I can field as allies now. They are originally for AoS, so waiting for the bases to get back in stock.

-High elves, I found out that I had bought enough high elves in various second hand deals that I actually have 2000 points of them already. I have couple of elven armies with bit different theme originally done for different games (Oathmark, Saga), that I have to still think how to incorporate everything into a coherent force. These are mostly in "to be started" level.

I'm doing a Cothique High Elf army, basically cos I like the scheme. Time has been tight in terms of getting my swordmasters up to the standard of the test model, but it's enjoyable. I have a loremaster, a dinky little 5th Ed mage, 15 Seaguard, 19 swordmasters, 20 archers, 8 shadow warriors and 5 reavers (if I can ever find the damn sprues for the last two). Gonna try and get good progress on the infantry so I can splurge on characters and phoenix guard when the range is actually on sale at normal prices.

My old 6th edition stuff has long ago disappeared sadly. Got back into the hobby in 2021.

Tho I have been collecting 4th edition armies for dark elves, wood elves, o+g and chaos for a few years.

I'm loving there is so much choice at the moment!
