I'm considering an Os & Gs army but only using Kruleboyz and a few gitz models.

I saw a post on reddit like this and they looked amazing. Just need a calvary kit. Snarlfang work but need orcs!

This is not my work but it's really nice. 👍 I'd give credit but don't know the painter.

    That's such a good idea!

Printed Highlands dwarfs & Brets, painting the former as I wait for the Bret launch box to get the book & peasants.

I'm seriously considering beginning a third army, and I'm split between Ogres, TK & WoC.

As other people have noticed on the internet, painting comparably less detailed R&F models (compared to contemporary 40k & AoS units) did wonders to my painting motivation

Yep, I'm whizzing through the basic gobbos and they still look good ranked up.

Not gonna lie, I am so happy.

EDIT: so a rough inventory to complement the potato pics

    • 32 glade guards
    • 20 eternal guards
    • 10 waywatchers
    • 10 wardancers
    • 5 glade riders
    • 5 old wild riders
    • 5 new wild riders
    • 11 driads
    • a couple of heroes in metal (Spellsinger, Waystalker, Highborn noble?, BSB, BSB on horse?)
    • two metal treemen

Oh wow, that's a awesome haul!!!

I never got to play fantasy. None of my friends were interested when I was younger. So I'm building the Dark Elves army I always wanted. Its a mix of modern and older models, which is proving to be a lot of fun.

You chose the best army - the Druchii!

A fun thing to do is to create your own book of grudges based on games you play. Back in the day I used it create my own lore around my Dawi army. Basing in on battles, I added short lore snippets. In a way, your local meta shapes your hold's history. My opponents appreciated it as well (especially those who beat me regularly :D).

Pretty sure it's the law to create a Book of Grudges when you're a dwarf player lol.

Now I just have to convince my wife to play a game with a 300 page rulebook...

I'm awaiting confirmation of the beastmen are gone from AoS rumor so I can find out whether to rebate on squares or converters but other than that my beastmen are ready to go minus painting up some Ghorgon and finishing some Ungor raiders I think I'm fully painted. I've also got an old wood elf army to run too so all in all I'm stoked for the old world!

Beastmen and wood elves, the classic match up!

Maybe, however if you look at the quantity and weight of the shipping (1423 Box and 4021K) I suspect its more smaller kits along the lines of The Old World or Lord of the Rings. Thats only if you look at the average weight of the items.

Going back to the one I'm excited about, which is 24737 BOX and 7842K, it screams boxed game to me. :D

I'm guessing it's the old stuff, the bret and tomb king army boxes and all the releases that went with it.

I have already shared in this thread, but I am working on a Winterheart Wood Elves army (The Winter Court) with the self-imposed challenge of not buying any new models. So it's basically a recycling project for stuff I am not using. The latest addition is a block of Eternal Guard made with Oathmark Elves and ASOIAF Free Folks:

bending my own self-imposed rules just a little bit, today I'll swap some of my Eldars for a box of old-ish Wood Elves from a clubmate. It's basically a mystery box so I'm curious to see what's inside :D

Haha, love a mystery box, please post what you get!!

I have quite a lot of projects going on parallel. I got a bit of headstart on ToW as I got back to WHFB 6th edition already '22 summer after playing couple of games with a friend that had been on a long break from miniature games (since 6th ed basically).

    The current status of each:

-Vampire counts, I just got 2000 point army completed start of Winter. Calculated my models and it's now 1900 points, so I have to do some strengthening. Warghulf is surely one thing that I'll add now when it's available in the army list.

-Wood elves, For these I have been steadily adding units. The models are all 5th edition or older. Just finished some archers and a wardancer command from Grenadier.

-Dwarfs, my original army, dug them out after a long while and even got a game already, painted some miners and currently doing a block of ironbreakers. Had collected surprisingly many models for them since the last game...

-Lizardmen, no plans yet, but I have around 80 metal saurus to add at some point

-Chaos, mostly Beastmen that I have been painting originally for 6th over the winter. Just agreed a first game for them tomorrow. I also have a small warrior detachment that I can field as allies now. They are originally for AoS, so waiting for the bases to get back in stock.

-High elves, I found out that I had bought enough high elves in various second hand deals that I actually have 2000 points of them already. I have couple of elven armies with bit different theme originally done for different games (Oathmark, Saga), that I have to still think how to incorporate everything into a coherent force. These are mostly in "to be started" level.

I'm doing a Cothique High Elf army, basically cos I like the scheme. Time has been tight in terms of getting my swordmasters up to the standard of the test model, but it's enjoyable. I have a loremaster, a dinky little 5th Ed mage, 15 Seaguard, 19 swordmasters, 20 archers, 8 shadow warriors and 5 reavers (if I can ever find the damn sprues for the last two). Gonna try and get good progress on the infantry so I can splurge on characters and phoenix guard when the range is actually on sale at normal prices.

Warriors of Chaos, using almost entirely new AoS sculpts (technically a handful are old WHFB I guess).

My old 6th edition stuff has long ago disappeared sadly. Got back into the hobby in 2021.

I sold off loads of my old stuff ages ago, regret it now!

Tho I have been collecting 4th edition armies for dark elves, wood elves, o+g and chaos for a few years.

I'm loving there is so much choice at the moment!

In this case, they are offering their usual 15% discount on the TOW books, which is as good or even better than a lot of other 3rd party sellers are/were.

They sold the army boxes at full price, put them on the site during the week after the release weekend.

Got a question am I the only one who interpreted the Martial Prowess rule to grant the ability to do supporting attacks and in addition towards all directions? (No one in our local club could make sense of the rule, reddit however was very clear in the response)

In short: Am I the only one who thinks this isn‘t well formulated? (I know its intend is to only work with models that can fight in an extra rank)

    citation:

„A unit with this special rule can make supporting attacks to its flank or rear, as well as to its front.“

Isn't that the point of the rule? They can fight in 2 ranks (if charged) in any direction.

Glad I could help. I cancelled my WG order at the weekend, deciding if just order them if/when they became available again. Only reason I checked EG today was to see if they had a discount on 30mm bases (I was in Warhammer World and weighing up whether to buy them the or not) and what do you know, they have stock.

My guess is their decision not to do online orders initially might have allowed them to build stock where others didn't, and now they feel comfortable selling online again.

They do that quite often, they don't sell online, wait until everyone sells out then put stuff online at full price.

You can still get some of the Xmas battleforces, again at full price.

I was rummaging through various boxes and dusty chests in the forgotten depths of my game room, and look what I found! Over a couple of hours, I've managed to cobble together a rag-tag collection of High Elves that have most definitely seen better days. (I don't think they have even seen the light of day for 20 years) Chips, cracks, broken weapons, missing shields and tails (Although I was happy to be able to find all the parts for the broken-up Prince on Griffon at the top right). Time to order some correctly sized bases, pull out the Isopropyl, greenstuff and modelling tools and hit up eBay for some missing components!

The janky High Elves of the dusty box shall ride again!

What a beautiful sight!!! Love they are getting their time to shine!

  12. Absolutely loving painting this army, didn't realise how much I've missed painting rank and flank.

Still need to add some grass to the bases when I decide what colour.

And finally I've been able to order a loonshrine, got a email it's back in stock today.

I have read similar takes several times and think you have it backwards. AoS is the driving decision for ToW. The core factions in ToW are made up of the factions not present in AoS.

Apart from orc & goblins and chaos warriors.

This negativity around beasts is tiring, especially because it was caused by another non-rumour like 6 pagez back. Let's switch it up by talking about new design possibilities for beasts. Personally I wouldn't deviate too much from the established goat look, as for a fantasy beastmen race it is pretty unique for the core of the Warhammer beastman to be a goat. However there is space for adding other elements to the beastmen in other parts of their bodies (look at centigors for example). For example, new minotaurs could get muscular bear arms. I am also a big fan of the jabberslythe and in my opinion it is the epitome of a beast of chaos, so more lizard and insect elements do also fit in. Imagine ungor raiders with dog legs for better running around in a skirmish, bestigors with pangolin scales for extra armor etc.

The new beastlord and the underworld warband are excellent models and I hope they do lean into more animals than just goats.

I look forward to the revamp, the AoS design team is the best going at the moment and I'm sure they will come up with something to delight yet horrify us with the Dark Kin.

I've written some stuff that contradicts what I believe are the principles that determine what gets made to order, but I want to believe XD

    • Iconic/Nostalgic
    • Has a profile on the army list
    • Is not a named character

    Dwarves:

    • Gotrek & Felix
    • gyrocopter
    • Thorgrim
    • Bugman

    High Elves:

    • "snake dragon" (Imrik)
    • Tyrion & Teclis
    • Griffon (Eltharion)

    Chaos:

    • Two Headed Dragon (Galrauch)
    • Slambo
    • Harry the hammer
    • random assortment of champions

    Beastman:

    • Minotaurs

    Wood Elves

    • 4th ed "snake dragon"
    • Orion & Ariel
    • Treemen
    • Metal Dryads

    Empire

    • Halfling Hot-pot
    • Steam Tank
    • Knight Grandmasters
    • War Altar
    • Knights Panther/White Wolf, etc..
    • Forgeworld stuff from Black Pass

Great list! Iike to see Egrimm as well for Chaos.

I'm hoping the Kev Adams night goblins and orc warriors come to MTO, some of the best O&G models of all time.

Plausible. Would make for more threats the enemy has to deal with.

A big block works good against shooty enemies (because some will get on target xD)

Witches are great against heavy hitters: rend -2? Who cares? I don’t have armour

some classic vamp counts heroes I never got around to painting as Soulblight Gravelords, ready to be re-re-based back to squares for the Old World.

Love the carstien models, I'm got some in a box somewhere.

  16. I'm in two minds as to how to run my witch elves.

The rules suggest a big unit as they have the horde rule which means they need at least 20 (4 ranks of 5) to benefit from the +3 rank bonus but seeing as they have no armour, 30+ 7 wide would be better.

However I think they would be better in smaller units say 12 - 14 strong 6 or 7 wide in 2 ranks. Set them up in the front of the army and slam into the enemy knowing they will all die but doing as much damage as possible.

    Thoughts?
