Here's a Changehost list i'm toying with atm....thoughts? love the idea of so many spells but not sure if i should drop a few endless spells for another hero or not

    --Leaders--

    LoC

    Gaunt Summoner

    Blue Scribes

    --Units--

    10 BLues

    10 brims

    10 Brims

    10 PInks

    10 Pinks

    10 Pinks

    --Endless Spells--

    Balewind

    Cogs

    Purple Sun

    Pallisade

    Geminids

    Burning Head

    Pendulum

    Shackles

You are 1 horror unit short. try squeezing 1 more hero in and basically we play the same  :)

I guess that is the root of the problem. You really have to add something to the rule to make the "Lord of Change <-> Horror in a unit of at least 2 models"-switch possible. Understanding the "position of a model" as the center point of its base is the most simple and elegant understanding. Therefore, as I argues in the 1st point of the last post, we should use this interpretation about every other (more complicated) one. I would really like to hear why we should act otherwise - or why my perception of simplicity might be wrong.

Players wanting the rule to work as you suggested does not make it the correct usage.

In one ideal world, GW designers and rules writers would be 'simple', 'elegant' AND exhaustive, covering all aspects of each rule without the need of faqs and designers' commentaries. But we all know in which world we do live don't we?

I see two problems with this definition:

    1. There is no hard rules evidence for it. To be fair, neither is there for my proposition (using the center of the bases), but if there are two possible explanations, we should pick the easier one (which would be mine, see point 2 for this as well), would you not agree?
    2. You run into a pretty weird situation, where you make two different positions on the battlefield identical with each other. Let me use a quick diagram to explain:

    444175242_Switchingmodelsproblem.png.71b1e92c49cc1b2335819c0037fecfaf.png

A and A' are two possible positions of a Keeper of Secrets. B is the position of a Pink Horror.

I guess we can agree that A and A' are different positions on the battlefield.

Now picture the following scenario: A model switches its position two times. Each event is independent from the other. The first and the second switch happen with two different models occupying two different positions on the battlefield. I think it is pretty clear that the model should occupy two different positions after the switches.

Looking at the diagram above, the Horror can indeed switch the position with two different models and yet retain the same position in both cases (following your definition of "switching positions"). This would indicate that A and A' were identical to begin with, which is clearly not the case.

Despite your encomiable effort to make it clear using a diagram and despite my nuclear engineering degree (no joke here) , I miss your point. My feeling is that you are trying to prove your point (i.e. in some cases , due to its base size, LoC shouldn't be allowed to use the batallion ability  for which he's mandatory element btw) with some math . I gave a simple add on to the original rule to cover all possible cases and at the same time being pretty reasonable against exploits, since most players right now are  just picking a point below each pair of miniatures and make sure that part of their bases cover it after the switch, making the effective position after the switch 9"+2.5" for 2 units of pinks for example . This is just being greedy to me. My solution is more conservative. There's no gain in switching the same base sisez and  3" at most for LoC/blues or brims. However my opinion and yours are of little importance, let's wait for a faq.

PS: Calling our big chicken a "Keeper of Secrets" might upset acolytes around the worlds, we are into magic, not sodomism :D

  4. easy fix: "when swapping models with different base sizes, make sure that the space occupied by the smaller base is fully overlapped by the bigger one after the swap occurred , and the smaller base must be placed wholly inside the space occupied by the bigger base after the swap occured. ".

Whilst it's not exactly the same wording I think the FAQ for Morathi is telling:

I don't think this rule applies for 2 reasons:

    1) wording: changehost rule doesn't use "on the same spot" wording, but "take one model from each unit and have them spaw places on the battlefield"

    2) Good sense: makes no sense to me that LoC can swap place with 1 pink but can't with 2 or more , when 40 pinks could swap with other 40 with no problem. Get the hell out my way I'd say!

  6. Yesterday I had my first changehost game ever and it was a blast! I was able to enjoy it only 2 rounds because my LoC was oneshotted in turn 2 by an alpha strike Braggoth's big hammer hero with themalrider cloak+cogs . However due to the great amount of mw , shooting and luck on rolls off , I was able to win the game anyway. A couple of question arose, apologies if they are trivial but as said I'm fairly new to the game:

    1) assuming I want to changehost 2 units which are both out of combat but close to enemy lines, let's say 5" for example.  Am I allowed to end with one or both within 3" from the enemy, exploiting the 9" radius to engage the enemy?

2)Assuming I cast all my endless in turn 1, Can I unbind one of them at the start of turn 2   and recast it  later in the same turn?

    3) Paradoxical shield question. My GS saves  at 6+. With PS (assuming no rend) he has to reroll 6s, he will save successfully with 5s and 4s, fail the rest.  If he's on a balewind vortex and in cover (+2 save) how does this work? Do I reroll on my first save roll only 6s or also 4s and 5s?  Basically my question is: the save modifiers due to BW and cover are added up to the PS or to my basic save? How do we take rend into account?

Thanks to anybody providing insight on this matter!

I think that u really need spell portal innsead of geminids, so u can Cast purple sun from changeling and then u can switch him with something, and u can cast gaunt summoner spell throw the portal.

wrong, switchings happen at the start of the hero phase, once you cast the sun you are on yor own and in trouble if you don't  get the double turn. However it's funny to see all these players who used to run enlightened lists jumping in the demon bandwagon. I started playing Aos in February aiming to build a changehost from the start, so I'm feeling lucky with these changes

Last game I played I deployed Changeling right in the heart of the enemy army and cast Purple Sun.  It was hilarious!

And did he survive your opponent's turn 1? Did he kill at least 200 enemy points ? I'm not convinced this would be it's most optimal use., but I'm here to be proven wrong

Hello! I'm new to Tzeentch and have two questions regarding Lord of Change.

    1. If you give LoC the artefact Mark of the Conjurer, does he gain two fate points per automatic since his casting roll always will be a double?

    2. If I use the Change Host batallion, can I swap places on my LoC and another unit? I say that I can since he is in his own 27" bubble, but my friends say thst I can't. How do you intepret the wording of this rule?

    yes to both questions

  10. I'm considering moving the Changeling in a changehost 2000 pts army. What's the best use for him to repay its 200 pts cost? Just keeping him hidden to halve the movment for 1 unit seems not enough and once revealed he can survive only if he strikes first. Thanks a lot for all insights :)

  11. I can see why

You can't re-roll a re-roll, so you would have to choose between either using arcane sacrifice if that says you can re-roll both dice, or re-roll the 1 from WoAM, but not one then the other, then using the WoAM a second time.

For my current Seraphon list, I often can either re-roll ones to charge, or do the command ability to re-roll both dice. So very much the same situation, but I have to pick which to use as I would be re-rolling a re-roll to use both.

thanks for this, all clear now :)

  12. I had my first AoS game yesterday and it was a blast, I had great fun with all the magic and summoning. One (amongst many) question arose, when my Gaunt summoner cast its spells using both arcane sacrifice and wellspring od arcane might. Let's say I roll 1-5 to cast a difficulty 8 spell. I reroll the 1 (WoAM) getting a 2, still a fail. Then I reroll both (arcane sacrifice) getting 1-3. I reroll 1 getting 6-3, finally a success. This is how we played it but I'm unsure of it since it looks too powerful. Is this procedure correct? if no, how does it work?  Thanks all :)

  13. I'm fairly new to the game, still have to play the 1st match, but lurking these pages and reading the rules makes me pretty sure that you will need 30+ blue horrors and brimstones for summining purposes. Then I'm confident that 9 enlightened on disks will be suggested by many others :)

Hi all! I'm a new AoS player (despite being a wargamer for over 20 years now) and atm I'm a bit lost reading the corebook, general's handbook, DoT tome and all the errata. This said, I currently own the Silver tower models , 1X start collecting demons of T , 1X blue horrors&brimstones, 1X LoC. Since I've not mastered the rules yet, I'm asking for advices for putting together a 1k pts list, starting with what I got.  Also, if I'm short in points , which would the best new entries be? Thanks all for the help provided!

Since my plea for help fell unheard , I'm changing the question: which units do you recommend as mandatory BOTH for 1k and 2k list? Looking forward to expand my actual pieces above with anything that could be used for 1k matches for a start but that won't be put apart in larger battles. Thanks all in advance :)
