  1. One thing that bothers me about the new app, didn’t they explicitly say that they built the new app because Path To Glory wasn’t compatible with the old app? And yet the new app doesn’t currently support Path To Glory either, and the 40K app still doesn’t support Crusade.

they should have maintained the old app until Path To Glory was supported by the new app and THEN replaced it.

there are things I like and prefer about each app, but I think overall the old one was better.

the issues I have with the new app are:
-tablet screens not supported, so you end up with black bars around the edges and only half the screen is used
-list builder doesn’t incorporate weapon options
-list builder by default has all possible ally units listed when you go to add units to your list, you can filter them out, but I think personally it should have been the other way round.
-it has nothing like the My Battle feature of the old app. You can access the warscrolls in the list builder, but it requires an extra step that My Battle didn’t.
-when you exit out of a warscroll, it takes you back to the top of the list of warscrolls (a massive pain for Stormcast who have 50 heroes to scroll through before you get to the other units)
-like the old app, the model image for the Warden King is a very old metal one rather than the current plastic model (not a big deal, just something that’s always bothered me and they carried it forward to the new app as well)
-you need a constant internet connection (wifi or mobile data) to use the app, as it’s programmed to check your subscription status upon opening the app (although the app is currently free, the function of checking subscription status is built into the app, so without internet it will give you an error message and you can’t do anything)

things I like about the new app:
-unlike the 40K one, you can rotate it into landscape rather than locked to portrait
-unlike the 40K one, when updates apply to a battletome via another book (eg Broken Realms), those changes are reflected in the battletome section as well, proved the update replaced something (eg a new warscroll)
-unlike Azyr, the list builder seems to be mostly correct and functions as intended (I gave up on Azyr and just used Warscroll Builder because there were too many errors and slow to update it)
-I think the presentation is a bit better, and the warscrolls are a big improvement over the old app
-this app feels like more effort has gone into it, despite the few issues it has, which should be a good sign for the future

Most likely we will be fighting in Ghur for some years, for the whole 3.0. There is no point on moving so quickly from Ghur as it would be detrimental for the game in the long run. They need to develop teh history here in Ghur and then make another "Broken Realms" to move to a new edition in Ulgu, where we will get new faction focus.

So we will have this season of Underworlds that will last for 1.5 years and then another for the same time span, and then we will move from this realm to Ulgu and Underworlds will move too to the next realm.

If each GHB doesn’t move to a different realm and we’re stuck with Ghur for all of AoS3 that would be a massive disappointment and missed opportunity. Each GHB should cover a different realm

Everything to do with battalions in the army builder is a hot mess - how they are displayed on the main screen, how they aren't clearly differentiated if you take more than one of the same battalion, how you choose which slot they go into, etc.

Also it doesn't let you choose a generic spell lore spell for an ally wizard, which seems wrong to me unless I've played that wrong all this time - ally wizards still get the spell enhancement, don't they? They just can't take from your faction-specific spell lore?

Nope allies don’t get anything except what’s on their warscroll

40k app requires a book code to check any given army's stats, I don't see why the AoS app would be different, specially seeing this return to absolute greediness from GW

Not true, I can view the stats of any unit I haven’t bought the codex for (Orks, Grey Knights etc), however the abilities are locked

Really disliking the navigation for this app. It is also clearly designed for tablets, because A TON of text does not fit when holding my phone vertically; I need to rotate it for all text to fit.

Also, I was only able to open the app once. Today it will not open, Android tells me "this app keeps crashing, do you want to close it?"

It most certainly is not, half the screen is unused (black bars on either side) on tablets, as is the 40K app over a year later

Can you clarify what you mean by (abilities not included). You mean like army rules and spells and stuff yeah?

Can you subscribe to the app separately from subscribing to W+ and if so do you know if that has changed since the launch of W+

If they make the warscrolls free and lock the book rules behind purchase of books and the army builder behind a subscription that would be fine with me. Still a step backwards since the battletome rules aren't really equal to a digital battletome but it's also "free" if you buy the 50 dollar book that just went up in cost... this got less fine as I typed. All at what I assume (no proof one way or the other) will be an increased cost.

Abilities not included meaning stuff like the Evocators lightning rule is locked (at least this is how the 40K app does things)

40k, you could subscribe without Warhammer+ unsure if that’s still an option and unsure for the AoS app

  7. Just to clarify for those who aren’t aware, this app appears to be built off the 40K app (layout and functionality appear almost identical)

the way the 40K app is ‘paywalled’ is as follows, and I expect AoS to be the same:
-free access to datasheets/warscrolls to see their stats (abilities however are locked).
-subscription to the app/Warhammer+ gives you access to all the rules for the existing books, points costs and the list builder.
-as a new book is released, the old one is removed. You can access the datasheets to see their stats (abilities however are locked) but need the code from a physical book to unlock the rules content (allegiance abilities, spells, full datasheets etc). You do NOT need a subscription to access the rules content for any books you have a code for, but will not be able to use the list builder without one.

SpikeyBits is reporting that the next four battletomes after the ones going up for preorder are rumored to be Maggotkin, Ogres, Beasts of Chaos and Gloomspire Gitz.

    https://spikeybits.com/2021/09/rumors-the-next-battletomes-for-age-of-sigmar.html

Not sure what their rumors are based on.

Unsure of Nurgle, but previously posted rumours said the following
-Ogor Mawtribes: new Start Collecting box with new Gluttons, new Leadelchers and new Butcher (like the Slaves To Darkness start collecting, these models were said to be exclusive with the old kits remaining on sale)
-Beasts Of Chaos/Gloomspite Gitz: dual army box consisting of new Bullgors, new Doombull, new Jabberscythe, Spiderriders, Araknarock, new spider boss

  9. I care not what my opponent does with their models*. I would prefer painted but I don’t care.

public events, like tournaments however, I 100% agree with having painting standards. I don’t want to pay $50nz for a 2-day 5 game event and face all the top netlists unpainted. I’ll openly admit I have a huge bias against waac or hyper competitive players and people who only run netlists, so I support painting standards at events. You’re not going to ruin my fun with that kind of play while having unpainted models. (Note that I attend tournaments not to try and win, but just as an opportunity to play more games. Sadly, the hyper competitive players make the events less enjoyable. There used to be a time where if you lost your first game, you’d spend the rest of the tournament in the middle or bottom tables playing the fun armies like Gloomspite Gitz etc. but nowadays, it’s more common to bounce up and down the tables, so unless you purposely lose every game, you can’t avoid playing the hyper competitive players anymore 😥 )

*conversions are sometimes an issue. As long as I can tell what it is without having to ask every time I want to attack something what it is then it’s usually fine. One example of something I don’t like, someone had converted a dead syvaneth army as Legions Of Nagash and I couldn’t tell what anything was supposed to be. It looked great, but I couldn’t tell what anything was supposed to be and that is a problem

Battletome prices going up by €5 equivalent

This is rough. I hope it won't come true. Currently the tomes are already heavily overpriced. We are far above the 30€ mark already, which would be okayish if the quality of the product was worth it. But we talk about a book that was not even touched by an professional proofreader, not to start talking about the quality of their ruleswriting and the day-1-FAQ's required.

I'd really prefer old WHFB style tomes without a hardback back at this point. The overall composition just felt smoother, with unit lore on the same page as the warscroll/profiles and instead of a advertising type of faction description we had some short stories that made the tome worth reading.

Based on the 9th edition 40K codexes which also saw a price increase from 8th edition to 9th, the increase is paying for the digital content unlocked in the app and recovering a bit of the lost revenue from having no digital sales

No sign of the app (last commitment was “before the first battletomes of the edition”) so no joy with AoS next week. Expect wave 2 of 40k orks and maybe, if we’re lucky, an announcement of the AoS app.

Once that is announced we might see things lining up for the 18th but probably more realistically the 25th.

I’m guessing the app will release on a Wednesday at the same time new content is added to Warhammer+ so that doesn’t nescessirly rule out the battletome preorders, however I personally think it’ll be wave 2 of 40K orks first

  12. Talk to me about Warherd

ive been enjoying playing Ogors lately, but I would like something more visually appealing that plays a similar way. On paper, Bullgors look like they’d play quite similar to the Ogors and the models are more appealing (except the resin Doombull, I’ve have to convert them out of the Ogriod models instead)

I'll be the first to admit something I hadn't thought of. If the boxes come with the warscroll then it increases the chance that GW isnt getting rid of free online warscrolls.

The warscrolls we are seeing from reboxings are the same way 40K includes the datasheets, but you need the app and/or codex to actually use them as they don’t have any of the rules only characteristics.

so far, none of the new Stormcast or Kruelboyz have their warscrolls available for download. The fact said models are only available in starter sets currently is irrelevant as Soul Wars still had the warscroll downloads. Additionally, the only time prior to this that a warscroll was not posted until a later date after the models release was The Crimson Court underworlds warband who’s warscroll was not posted until the battletome went up for preorder. Worth noting that the Bonesplitterz warband was released after them and yet had its warscroll posted as normal, so I’m not convinced that waiting for the battletome is the reason. Unfortunately it really does look like free PDF warscrolls are gone and you’ll need the app or battletomes going forward

Might be the way going forwards for big stuff. Rather than giving it better saves, will just have average save and more wounds

This is how it was since the beginning of AoS and it always annoyed me. Wounds is NOT a good way to represent how tough something is due to multiple damage weapons

  15. I have a quick question about running purely Khorne daemons, is it better to run Khorne allegiance or legion of the first prince?

my opinion of Khorne allegiance is that it wants you to take mortals to get the most from it (prayers for example)

I would assume that if the house rule agreement is to not take Amulet of Destiny on a 10+ wound model then any artifact that functions in a similar fashion (ward save of 5+ or better) would also be out.

My personal question for the OP. Do you think there should be a limit to how many monsters someone brings to the table, baring armies like SoB that are pure monster, for a better experience or do you find that no matter how many monsters someone brings it doesn't change gameplay too much in either direction?

Gargants have an artefact for a 6+ ward, they have no heroes with less than 35 wounds so they shouldn’t be allowed to use one of their artefacts?

this is the problem with house rules, unintended consequences

They do release digital army books. Just not for free.

    https://www.games-workshop.com/fr-BE/Codex-Adeptus-Custodes-ipad-2018

And honestly, if you think that saves some trees, you should better look on the paper industry and how they recycle books already.

I do believe your concern has nothing to do with trees, though. More about you being angry GW doesn't release all rules of their games for free.

GW stopped doing digital books for 40K with 9th edition. Instead, the physical book comes with a code that unlocks the rules content within the app (note: rules content only, not the lore). As there is no digital Core Rulebook (the full one including the Path To Glory rules) or GHB21, and they’ve said they’re doing the whole code thing with battletomes, it’s safe to assume that gw are no longer doing digital books for 40K or AoS.

additionally, some other recent rulebooks were not released in digital despite the prior ones, for example Warcry:
Agents Of Chaos, Sentinels Of Order, Harbingers Of Destruction, Bringers Of Death, Catacombs and Tome Of Champions 2020 do not have digital releases despite all prior Warcry books being available

  18. Tribes do not function like other subfactions though, usually there is a single Command Trait and Artefact you are forced to take and the subfaction rules specifically state this, whereas Tribes have a full list of Command Traits and Artefacts to choose from with no specific requirement to take them. Keep in mind that Sons do not have a list of generic ones and must choose a Tribe to access them at all (note however that choosing a Tribe is not mandatory unlike the Slaves To Darkness legions which state you must choose a Legion)

personally I think it’s a little unclear, but the intention should be that they can choose from the universal ones instead if they want

It is an allegiance that includes both command traits and artifacts, meaning the general HAS to take that trait and the first artifact MUST be from that allegiance.

I disagree, unlike the usual subfaction rules, the Tribes do not state anywhere that the command trait and artefact have to come from that list (I would obviously argue against trying to take them from a different Tribe of course). I see no reason why you couldn’t take the universal ones instead
