I creating this thread a useful tool to help newbs and old hands.

What would you advise for someone starting in your faction.

The purpose of the post is to post 1000 and 2000 point lists (aretfacts not really necessary can include battalions) that won't get smashed up straight away and will stop them just buying random models that cost them in the end and just sit in the box of shame hoping to save people money in the long run.

Why- Best value for money is not always best value for your wallet, when coming back into the hobby it was this new rule of cool buy it it looks cool it will be fine on the tabletop, NOPE,(when I first started out 16 years ago the guys in the gw store would build a solid foundation around a faction you like I want to replicate this advice in my local independent retailer) in fact only 5 blood warriors and a bloodsecrator see the tabletop out of my first 150 quid back into the hobby. Now I'm stubborn play more get better buy some decent unit's but if someone new had spent 150 quid or more on an army to find out its  rubbish once they've built and painted they may put off. I want to be able to give good advice to our local gaming group and Newbie AOS players and what will be the best value in the long run for the player for the army they want.

    For example a Khorne player

    Bloodsecrator

    2x slaughter priest

    2x10 blood warriors gorefists

2x 10 blood reavers with meat ripper axes

    gorepilgrims

    skull altar

    1000 pts

now its not amazing but its a solid foundation and easily expanded to larger games and even smaller games you will still use bits from this cost 168.50 I've avoided the start collecting as you only get reaver blades, no gore glaive, no standard musician etc,

    expand to 2000pts

    3xBloodthirsters

advice magentise best preference or 1 of each

    255gbp

again not ground breaking but they then have a solid 2000pt list which is easy to add and remove models they won't get smashed off the table every game, I'd advise them on trying to get half wrath and rapture and a start collecting daemons box. so another 100quid.

obviously if they expressed an interest more in the mortal side I'd give them different advice wrath mongers, skull reapers, crushers, and still advise the half of wrath and a start collecting daemon and 1 bt for summoning.

Now my knowledge is pretty limited to khorne, dispossessed and wanderers so asking your ideas your solid foundations for your faction.

NOTE: this is not a who has the better list post its a post about helping others build a solid foundation so they can play a decent game while they workout whats best for them without buying 4 start collecting using 10 percent of it and that 10 percent need converting. Many thanks Guys and Girls all list suggestions with reasons are much appreciated.

Stawk’s 1000 point list guide comes to mind, though by now I’m sure it’s out of date and had more of a goal of getting you some kind of list on the cheap.

I think for most armies I’d start with the suggestion of one Start Collecting, getting a few games at ~500 points, then the book, and then fleshing out from there.

  2. I figure there’s no better place for Warcry fluff questions than here, and I’ve got two:

What warband is influenced by Nurgle? I want to say Splintered Fangs or Corvus Cabal. Seems clear that Iron Golems are Khorne, Unmade are Slaanesh, Cypher Lords are Tzeentch, and Untamed Beasts are, well, Beast of Chaos-related.

Is there going to be a warband for the Horned Rat? Or is fighting to be by Archaon’s side something that isn’t in the nature of the Skaven?

That's my point as well. There are no grand designs and GW didn't axe High Elves because they hate elves or hate elf players or suck at their jobs.  They did it to reduce the amount of inventory they have to create and store especially for the products that were not selling as highly as they expected.  Beyond that are concerns about game design and redundancy in the Battletome itself.

Lastly are lore concerns.  As annoying as inconsistency in the lore is, they can change it to be whatever they want at any time that suits them.  To put it another way, they can easily change the lore to match more important considerations but its pretty damn hard to adjust the financials to accommodate storing tons of high elf models that aren't selling because high elves are mentioned in the Realmgate Wars.

But what if it WAS because the High Elves were wrong about Malakith the whole time?

Weren't they unavailible for a long while when Spire of Dawn was re released? Or am I thinking of original Island of Blood? Not very important, really, I might remember it wrong. Still. Warpfire team.

    Yes.

This was also the only way to get most of the Swifthawk that wasn’t available anywhere else, and a cheap way to get a whole lotta Clanrats

Positively ancient, some from far away year of 2013 if one can imagine such faraway times ; ). Same time as Glottkin and the rest of large nurgle beasties, year older than such old things as Nagash and the Mortarchs [cool band name, to think of it...]

Sorry, just having a laugh, especially comparing it to the fact that the Skaven battletome had 20+ year old discontinued models actually *return* to the line. And beastmen still have THIS monstrosity availible in store :D

I know that it's been few years since, for instance, Skycutter was released, but well, it disappearing means that in two years from now basic stormcast and bloodbound units are not safe either, following the same logic.

There’s no such thing as ‘The Old World’. This is your new reality now.

  6. This month’s Pledge: Paint a model 😅

I didn’t get anything painted for AoS last month. I spent the first weekend at the office, the second weekend helping my in-laws move, and during the third week we found out that the wife is pregnant with twins, so I’ve been going through my Magic cards to find things to sell (and then promptly had a payment issue with the company I was trying to sell to).

So new Beastgrave Black Library book coming out https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/08/03/from-darkness-to-death/#gallery-4

The image has a beastman fighting against a pretty cool looking branchwraith...new sylvaneth warband? Just good art?

They just had Ylthari, which looks nothing like the cover, which looks more like a Branchwych, which looks nothing like the Beastgrave elves.

i can’t help but wonder if the rumor that the creative teams don’t always talk to each other is true.

It's your Last Chance to Buy these classic Aelf, Duardin and Free Peoples models! If you've always dreamed of owning these miniatures, this is your final opportunity to secure yours – they're going fast and not coming back.

Only 3 and a half hours until I get my notification email!

  9. I don't know what to think when most of the High Elf stuff is gone, but the StD Godsworn Warband is still available.

Chariots, Loremaster, Unforged and all of the metal Elves are what remain.

Also, it's worse than just this for High Elf players. Minus Phoenix Guard, Phoenixes, Shadow Warriors, and Sisters of the Watch, they've lost everything. Swifthawk Agents haven't had most of their things available for years.

I don't think the "get rid of all horses" logic follows, as the Celestial Hurricanum/Luminark kit still has horses, as do Pistoliers/Outriders.

Horses that have been axed by GW since the start of AoS: Most Empire Knights, Silver Helms, Glade Riders, and all of those Bretonnia Knights

New models that have had Horses: Varanguard

Not to mention that horses don't scream the same kind of Fantasy world that AoS has built from the beginning.

The thing that strikes me as strange about this is that the decisions seem largely about metal/finecast and model count in the box rather than the actual role of the units. As it is, a lot of the things are getting squatted are things that would actually add an interesting dimension to Cities, and a lot of the things that remain are really redundant. I hope that this means we will see some significant warscroll re-writes.

Aside from that, I think that there is one very big silver lining that is largely getting ignored. If a lot of these warscrolls are going away, it will increase the justification for using the models that you prefer as "counts as". For example, when Quarrelers and Thunderers were their own thing, it was a bit questionable to take them to a tournament and say that they are Freeguild Crossbows or Handgunners. Now I don't think there is any excuse not to allow it.

    Everything can be summed into:

    • Metal/Finecast
    • Mounted/Unmounted Two Heroes kits (GW have already committed a number of horse-cides in the past, so this is likely standard-fare)
    • Old-Fashioned Dwarfs (Those not covered head to toe in metal)
    • High Elves that didn't have Phoenix in it (I hate to pile on, but you can't buy anything for Swifthawk Agents other than Shadow Warriors now either)
    • War Altar of Sigmar (I assume it's because of the equines)
    • Glade Guard (Assume its because theyre a box of 16, but we still have Dryads)

I really like the XBows/HGuns idea. Now I have to ask why GW didn't think of doing that.

Last chance to buy does Not mean they are going away entirely.

It has in the past and could very well mean "last chance to buy in this format"

    Because that hasn't ever happened.

Plenty of things received a rebox without going last chance.

Minus the Warhammer Legends, Last Chance has meant Last Chance.

I'm still waiting for a reprint of Ushabti to pick up a box.

  13. Is there anyone else like myself who just tries to collect a nice chunk of every army?

I'm at roughly 63,000 total points (not including scenery). Stormcast and Skaven are the only two over 4,000 points, sitting at 4801 and 4393 respectively. Although, if everything for Free Cities stays, that army will probably exist somewhere over 10,000 points.

I have weird stigmas for what I purchase too. So little of what I have is big models, and so much is just a combination of what comes in the two-Army battleboxes, Start Collecting boxes, and Holiday Battleforces. I only sometimes buy a kit more than once, and usually only if it is a Battleline unit, or builds a completely different model/unit (as opposed to a different weapon loadout).

how TF did a guy riding a giant snail kill a God...

Probably the same way that fatso Festus killed the great King Louen Leoncoeur: Let him kill a GUO, then jump him while he's wounded.

To be fair, Horticulous is one of Nurgle's first children, so he's probably more powerful than he looks.
