  1. I know it's little consolation for the inevitable, but it's worth reminding people that Beasts, Bonesplitterz and Sancrosanct will all get Index battletomes at the start of 4th ed. They won't be updated, but you still have about a year of playtime left with these models.

Again, it doesn't alleviate the pain, but these guys aren't dead quite yet. I say enjoy them while you can.

  2. That flag might be a little tone deaf considering the times we're currently living in. But I don't think they purposefully decided to reference ******. Black, red, and white have been Skaven primary colors since old Fantasy.

  3. Weapon profiles being merged is fantastic and should have been implemented long ago. This isn't a WYSIWG game. Let's not pretend people didn't ALWAYS build whatever the numerical "best" option was.

There was no strategy, no flavor to it. But now, we can build ANYTHING we want without worrying it'll be nerfed into being the worst option in the next update. All of the AOS players I've ever met already do this and just say their unit is using whatever regardless of what the models look like.

Power level is the number after wizard at the bottom, so Wizard (9) means you have a power level of 9 and can cast and dispel 9 times in a battle round.

Was kind of hoping we were moving to power dice or something to change up spellcasting, but that makes sense.

  5. The new warscrolls are brilliant. Improved clarity and readability. They're pleasant to look at. I honestly can't find a fault with this design--it's so good.

    Some other notes:
-No monster degradation table, just a simple battle-damaged ability, awesome.
-I'm wondering if Wizard(9) means how many power dice you get to cast spells. Either that or how many spells you can cast (could we get a confirmation from those "in the know?")

Two of the main people in charge of AoS are big Ogor fans, namely Phil Kelly and Jes Bickham. I'm not sure who it is that makes these kinds of calls but I'm pretty sure Ogors are safe.

Part of me says: "They just got new Gorgers and terrain, of course they're safe."
The other part says: "We still have ****** resin wizards."

Nothing has ever been safe. At what point, in which place has GW ever made a commitment to not cull armies and/or models? Every single release has a lifespan. And boy, both BoC and BS had a good run.

Warcry and Stormcast are a different story, but one that still makes sense. So yes, nothing is safe, and it's probably worth keeping in mind at all times, not just on days like today.

I'm an oldschool player, and you're absolutely right. This sort of behavior has been going on forever. But as someone mentioned, this process has only been getting quicker. Fewer years between cullings.

  8. Now nothing is safe. If they're willing to kill 5 year old mainline models, or an entire faction with year-old models, anything could be gone in the blink of an eye. Every 3 years we'll be gritting our teeth and waiting for the worst.

But they'll take my Ogres over my dead body.

At LVO folks asked GW about BoC and got response that essentially rumors about BoC squat are false.

That is truly despicable. This is why you can't ever trust a corporation.

Oh please no, we should go to a less aura-centric game, not more.

I'm going to predict that we'll have more aura abilities that aren't commands, but the abilities will be tied to a hero being within 3" of a unit.

They'll be in the bin again.
Kruleboyz are notoriously hero heavy. even 3 drop might be a stretch.
Ironjawz will be in a similar spot unless they're less reliant on warchanters.
I bet the good armies next edition will be ones that can get by on like 2 heroes.
Its legitimately gonna suck when 60% of the meta at any event is 3 drops by necessity and most of your t1 priority is decided by dice roll.

The whole game is changing. Nothing we know now about armies or the core rules is relevant in the next edition.

  12. If we're not going to a "alternating activations" system, the Priority Roll is a must to keep the game engaging.

I see people saying "I don't know anyone that likes the double turn!" This is all echo chamber bias. For me, I don't know anyone that doesn't like the priority roll. So we could go back and forth with it all day.

Am I the only one who feels 80% of all these articles sum up almost nothing? I would preferred for them to start later rather than having a daily post that gives 0 value.

It is egregiously slow and unhelpful. We still haven't seen either a new model (from a model making company) nor what the new warscrolls will look like (probably the most major component of the new edition).

Someone definitely spent time thinking about how long they could drag out each bit of info.

I think gw is emphasising modularity in order to try and break that habit.

I think there will always be a small set of people who insist that there's only one way to play. I've already heard arguments for it online and we're not even into the edition yet. It's usually the hyper competitive crowd. Which is fine, they can like whatever they want--as long as they aren't trying to force other people to play their way.

As for me. I look forward to experimenting with different modules.

TBH, they're putting the GHB in the launch box - I wouldn't be surprised if they're taking steps to certain rules for free

They actually say that the "Battle Plans and Tactics from the GHB will be in the launch box." They don't say the GHB will be.

People are already claiming that they will be using GHB for pickup games and even narrative events.

There will always be a contingent that refuses to do anything other than that. Playing any tabletop game is a contract between two or more people to have fun--which includes discussing whether or not you want to use certain elements.

Don't feel bullied by people who suggest there's only one real way to play.

  17. Modular system = Play how you want

I'm glad GW themselves are stating this intent. Perhaps it will be enough to convince a slice of the player base that they don't always have to strictly use all of the rules to play a "real game."

What if I told you that Endless Spells… are free? Or that all weapons choices have been rolled into one across warscrolls?

Rejoice. We can build models however we think looks cool without worrying about stats.

  19. Battleshock sucked. Lost more models for losing models. For 75% of factions battleshock meant nothing. For the rest, it was devastating. To this day I'm convinced nothing was balanced around battleshock at all.

    Good riddance.
