  1. Thank you @That Guy I hate not having my Battletome here with me at work to look at things and completely overlooked Aventis being a named. Yea I want to build a shooter list. I am trying to lean more on a "Ask a question list" over "Answer question list". Asking list is hey buddy can you handle all of this shooting over the Answer list being oh you have magic I have an answer for that, you have melee charging I have a answer for that...

  2. This list is not complete and but wanted to see what the community thought.

I have 140 free points. I want to use the Libs as screens and objective holders. I didn't pick any artifacts. Not sure about grabbing Everblaze or an extra Ballista. Also should I change out Aventis for a cheaper general to free up more points?

  3. @HammerOfSigmar I am pretty sure when I read the BT for the seq's a unit of 5 can have two great mauls and the prime can take mace and shield or Great maul. Which would give the unit 3 Mauls. The host yea I screwed that up completely I have to have that weapon period. Maybe I should have used Hallowed Knights?

    *edit "to" correction "two"

  4. Had a friendly game with my buddy last night.

Pride leader with only 1 set of Dracolines is pretty useless and very cost heavy too. I still have to grasp that my leader and the dracolines are more of a support unit(s) not a roll in guns blazing kick ass take names unit. I lost my leader and Evo's on Draco's at the end of round 1. They should have stayed behind my big blocks of Seq's and came out when needed.
Not having any shooting really put me at a huge disadvantage as far as weaken enemies down before they charged in.

My golden stars were my Vex and Heraldor. Vex was able to drop Meteoric standard for some early damage to units and the Heraldor sweet horn blast wrecked some units a few times. They provided rerolls for charge and the Run plus charge was pretty sweet.

Another big mistake I made was putting my Retribtuors in reserve. Not only did miss my turn 1 deep strike deploy but I didn't put the Vex with them to help provide a re-roll if I needed it for a charge. Lucky for me it wasn't needed I rolled a 11 and got to my target.

All in all I am going to have to consider Libs over Seq's if I plan to dump Evo's. Adding in shooting guys is a must. Use Lib lines to protect my support guys as we advance. Ret's are still solid they came in and packed a mean punch just have to be ensured they can make that charge roll or it's for nothing.

In total I own about 10 Evo's on foot and 1 set of Evo's on dracolines. I assume I need another Dracoline box and how many more Evo's on foot?

Tbh, GW made the new edition very unfriendly to new players who like to get the full experience rather than just bits and pieces. It does not help that they are stuck in a mentality over a decade old as far as rules distribution and accessibility.

So 2.0 has 3 main rulebooks. The large core rulebook which contains the basic games rules, 6 missions, realm rules, and Grand Alliance rules. Then you have the Generals Handbook. The GHB is an annual publication that tweaks points values game wide, contains some army rules for some of the factions that do not yet have their own battletome, 12 more missions, and has the rules for matched play including matched play army construction. Malign Sorcery is the 3rd rulebook and contains the rules for Realm Artifacts, Endless Spells and Realm Spells.

Besides the main 3 rulebooks there are also battletomes for different armies. Battletomes will contain several special rules for their specific army, and also has points values. Always go by the latest publication for points values (in the case of Stormcast, the current GHB and battletome were published at the same time so have the same values).

Now I have a better idea why I am so damn confused. So I got the Corebook which was mostly story fluff and SC Battletome and thought I was good to go. I was using a friends GHB at the time of our games but haven't seen it or read any of it and I do not have the Malign Sorcery book at all. Honestly, thought with  Battletome I had everything I needed.

  7. Thank you Requizen.

I really want to be able to build a list that shows up to the table and does it's job  well. I don't have to win and winning isn't the only factor that matters to me. What is important is knowing how to build a list. I have a pretty sizeable army and have some options but building is just doesn't make sense to me it's never been my strong point in any game. I don't know the ends and outs of it.

Every list I build is about the same

    Stormhost - Hammers

General - Arcanum on Gryph charger

    Sequitors x 3 (10 units) Battleline

    Evocators x2 (5 units)

    Retributors x2

then I just fill in stuff.

I know my Evocators need to be with my Sequitors to give that buff to them. I bought the Evocator Dracoline box and really want to dump that gryph charger to run Arcanum on Draco with 3 evocators running on Draco's. I want to put in Long Strike guys or other units I have. However, I feel like there is a better way or a way to add to my existing list to make it better not just through junk into it. That's the part I don't get.

  8. So if your really new to this game and have new player questions what or where is the best place to ask them?

I see the builds you guys put up and I try to build things myself and I don't know how to give my army these badass items to really power them up and build syenergy for my team. I don't even really know the best way to ask a question about how to deal with certain kinds of things. Maybe this forum isn't the best for me I don't know. I have about 5 games under my belt so I know without a doubt I don't know how to build much less how to play above average or even at average.

  9. What is the best way to deal with Khrone juggernauts (guys on silly beast dog things) I fought a champ in a game some months ago and he had a crazy save like 2 or something. I was thinking using 10 Retributors with a Knight-Vexillor. Deep strike in us the Vex to help with a re-roll on the charge to make sure they get in there. Use the Soulstar maces to pump in free mortal wounds to try and kill him off ASAP.

But would a knight herald be a better option for running and then charging?

I’m averaging about 4-5 hours per model these days. Baring in mind that’s everything, from plastic on the sprue to completely finished product. In calendar days it’s working out to roughly two weeks per unit. So in a year I can more or less finish about 26 “projects” of various sizes. However larger centrepiece models can take up to three times that long, which is why I’m often reticent to start larger projects. I only tend to paint a huge model maybe once a year.

I’ve attached a sample of the quality of work that I aim for, for reference.

Further to the above, I don’t like cutting corners, and I’ve found that if I try to go much faster, the model just looks worse. If anything, if I wanted a better quality, the solution would be to spend even more time on them.

I think if I could learn to use an airbrush effectively, I might be able to shave an hour or two off the process, sometimes. Especially with larger projects. But I’m not terribly concerned because I actually enjoy painting.

    Very Nice Work!
I am no pro painter I just want to get paint on the model and get it on the table. I haven't really messed with bases yet I can come back for those parts

Command abilities have the potential to drastically impact games of AOS.  This is not true of every command ability though.  The CAs with the most potential for abuse often can stack, or they trigger an effect with more impact than simply dice-fixing.

The tempest lords caught my eye because their battle trait has significant potential in comparison to the other stormhosts. But unfortunately, the command abilities with the most potential for abuse are limited to Hammers of Sigmar, Anvils of the Heldenhammer, and even Celestial Warbringers.

For your vanguard chamber units, lords of the azyrite hurricane can't be 'spammed', and vanguard units are typically fielded in small units that prefer to shoot rather than charge. This means that inspiring presence, at the double, and forward to victory are all next to useless. Tempest lords provide almost no help to Vanguard units.

The story is better for sacrosanct units. There is one particular unit combination that would be effective with tempest lords. Take a lord-arcanum on dracoline, and run him near a unit of evocators on dracolines, take the pride leader mount trait on the lord arcanum. If that hero is within 6" of any of your units, he will have +1 to hit and +1 to wound on all of his attacks. Hitting and wounding on 2s with 7 multi-damage attacks is fantastic, and don't forget to break your spirit flasks on the turn you charge. I just recently man-handled a 20-strong unit of grimghast reapers with a lord-arcanum on dracoline charge. This lord arcanum has a great outlet for all of those extra tempest lord command points. If you can keep your formation tight enough, you can "spam" pack alpha, giving you as many additional dracoline attacks for the evocators as you have CPs.

As to whether or not you should 'give up' on tempest lords.... it depends. If you have painted your models in tempest lords colors and it is important to you that your model colors match their stormhost, you should keep going with tempest lords.  Embrace their character as noble lords and peerless battlefield commanders. Lean in to their strengths, which are leveraging the most powerful generic command abilities and having an extra hard-hitting warlord.

If you painted your models in a generic scheme, or it doesn't matter to you if the colors match the stormhost, then experiment with the others. My personal opinion is that staunch defender has lost a lot of its AOS1.0 luster. Having played many games using Hammers of Sigmar and Anvils of the Heldenhammer stormhosts, it became apparent that it wasn't as necessary as it first seemed. In my meta, my stormcast armies are not winning many attrition battles. My success against maggotkin, daughters of khaine, and sylvaneth has been achieved by surrendering early victory points, appearing in aggressive locations, delivering a crippling attack, then keeping the pressure up until I table (or essentially table) my opponent.  Bonds of noble duty would be welcome help for that strategy.

    Long live the Blue-Blooded! :)

If I have Astreia Solbright can I use her as a lord-arcanum and run that war scroll?
Also, I am very new to the Stormcast and keep making some simply mistakes. How many Great Mauls can be used in a unit of 5
Sequitors? I assumed it was 1 Great Maul for 5 but I think I saw something it might be 2 Great mauls for a unit of 5.
