  1. I like to run a Chaos Lord Sorcerer as an ally with a unit of Furies. Sorcerer gives you great buffs & an extra chance to unbind/dispell. The Furies can fly onto objectives, and if they get killed, your Sorcerer can just summon them back onto it. I'm going with that until I can buy/build/paint some K'daai Fireborn.

(Note: I am an open/narrative gamer so using Furies as allies may not work for matched/tourney but the Sorcerer is legit, take him no matter what)

  2. Just curious if anyone has ever done a 500pt escalation league match with just Kroak (450pts) paired to either a Razordon or Salamander (40pts)? I imagine this wouldn't fly either tactically or in terms of being a good opponent but I must admit being curious to try it.

  3. While some of our Seraphon models are really old and outdated looking, I'm patient enough to wait for GW to eventually update them.

Edit: I'd most like to see Salamanders & Kroxigors updated.

@Televiper11With the Wanderers army, I would recommend using the Slann's Command Ability. I've played Wanderers and that shooting phase re-roll is a great asset against them. And be sure you're screening against their board edge teleport.

    Thanks for the advice.

  5. Looking at starting a BoC army to pair with my Legion Of Azgorh for a (casual) doubles tournament next year. Want to keep the Bull aesthetic so that they complement my LoA Bull Centaurs.

Anyone have any success with Doombull as general and 3 units of Bullgors as battleline? I'd probably also take a full compliment of Ungor Raiders and maybe some Dragon Ogors.

@Televiper11 Do you know your opponents army? I assume you'll be using the 2 units of 10x Saurus to screen with and Knights for objectives (if there are any)?

Also, if you're able to use Malign Portent artefacts, Ghyrstrike from Ghyan on the Sunblood is an excellent choice.

I'll be facing two armies over two nights: Wanderers & Gutbusters. We are not using Malign Portent artefacts or Realm rules.

I do intend to use the army as you mentioned: screen with 2x10 SW, Knights to hold objectives, Trog as distraction.

No you can make a list with just the firelance and sunclaws, You still get the buffs from those starhosts themselves. It's just the lowest drops you could get to is 2 with both of those heavy on the amount of troops in each unit for them, obviously you don't get the fangs or dracothians buffs with just those two.

Thanks! Here is the list I came up with:

    Slann Starmaster (260)
    - General
    - Trait: Great Rememberer
    - Artefact: Incandescent Rectrices
    Saurus Astrolith Bearer (160)
    - Artefact: Light of Dracothion
    Saurus Sunblood (120)
    - Artefact: Coronal Shield
Saurus Scar-Veteran on Cold One (100)
    40 x Saurus Warriors (360)
    - Spears
    10 x Saurus Warriors (100)
    - Clubs
    10 x Saurus Warriors (100)
    - Clubs
    5 x Saurus Knights (90)
    - Lances
    5 x Saurus Knights (90)
    - Lances
    5 x Saurus Knights (90)
    - Lances
    Troglodon (160)
    Firelance Starhost (150)
    Sunclaw Starhost (130)
    Prismatic Palisade (30)
    Chronomantic Cogs (60)

    Total: 2000 / 2000
    Extra Command Points: 2
    Allies: 0 / 400
    Wounds: 129

Thoughts? It is for a casual, open play event...

  8. I could use some battalion advice. I have the models needed to build both Firelance Starhost & Sunclaw  Starhost. Can I run these two in a 2K list without expanding them into either Fangs Of Sotek or Dracothian's Tail? Or are those two necessary to get the proper buffs I need?

  9. Anyone here frustrated about LoA not having access to BoC as allies? It seems like a natural compliment given the Hashut-like nature of Doombulls, etc. I'd love to see the Herdstone standing behind my troops, for example, or run unit of Bullgors behind my Bull Centaur Renders.

As anyone tried the Magewrath Throne as a terrain piece, maybe for their Daemonsmith?

@Televiper11 I don't own that model and thus haven't played it. Curse of Fates seems like an under-appreciated spell, though the Starpriest's Ability seems more useful, imo. Again, it comes down point value: 80 vs 200. The Starseer has only one cast and unbind, just like the Starpriest, so it comes down to the Spell and Ability. For 1250 pts and below, you want that Starpriest.

Thanks, I appreciate your help while I figure out how to build a better list.

@Televiper11 The Starpriest is a must in any list 1250 and below. Additionally, he's good enough for many lists above that as well.  He's one of only 4 Wizards the Seraphon have and has a great spell cast for an 80 point model. Additionally, Serpent's Staff is great to use in a Saurus list. I've used him in every battle I've played with Seraphon.

Do you prefer the Starpriest over the Starseer?

It can dishout a lot of damage, is very useful for moving the magmas up since they can't run, and has surprising survivability, I've had my enemy pile on 3 units or more trying to kill it. It has a great save and is a threat in its own way, best to keep out of combat if able. I never go without it. On top of all that I'd say it was probably my favorite model in the range to assemble!

Cool! How is it to paint?

  13. Hi Everyone,

    I have a couple compare/contrast questions:

    • Slann Starmaster vs Lord Kroak
    • Stegadon vs Engine Of Gods
    • Skinks vs. Chameleon Skinks

Kroak's spell casting  abilities are insane. I already have a Slann but could I field both? Do people just prefer the Slann cuz it is cheaper?

I have a Stegadon already but could easily convert it to the EotG. Given that the points cost are the same, not sure which is preferable or if I should devise it so that I can swap the model back-and-forth between the two depending on the type of game I'm playing.

I do have 20 Skinks but was wondering if the Chameleons are  worth replacing them with in a terrain heavy game due to their Perfect Mimicry. I am also intrigued by their Ambush ability.

Just noted my phone auto-corrected my reply 🙄

What Azgorh or Chaos models do you have, might help in building a list?

I'm not sold on the Hellcannon at all, not sure why you're giving a daemonsmith the cloak? I'd use that on a support character for mobile CC units, i.e. on the BSB to buff Kdaai or Renders

The Chalice might be another idea for the daemonsmith to potentially shutdown an opponents magic phase

I was debating using the Chalice, might go back to that.

I like the Hellcannon for two reasons: mortal wounds output & distraction (the few opponents I've played target it because of its size, leaving the Magma alone until too late).

For Azgorh, I have another 10 x Infernal Guard Ironsworn  & 10 x Infernal Guard Fireglaives. And another Infernal Guard Command. Have a bid in on a Deathshrieker. Don't own any other Chaos units but could change that on a good recommendation. Am totally new to all this so no real inventory to choose from.

Who is the Sorcerer Lord Interesse to buff? You hardly have any bodies on the table...

"Daemonic Power:  The Sorcerer bestows his followers with daemonic essence, boosting their skill, strength and resilience to unholy levels. Daemonic Power has a casting value of 5. If successfully cast, pick the caster or a unit within 18". Until your next hero phase, you can re-roll any hit rolls of 1, wound rolls of 1 and save rolls of 1 made for that unit."

The above plus Oracular Visions is pretty helpful; casting Daemonic Power on Taur'ruk is gonna be awesome!

Plus, given my lack of cavalry/mobility, I added Furies to my list and if they get killed quickly, the Sorcerer Lord can summon more.

That was my thinking after seeing him allied to a lot of LoA lists I found online.
