My buddy and I just started playing like a week before GHB19 came out. He plays NH and I play LoN. What were the huge blows to those armies? Dire Wolf & Grimghast point increase? Or am I missing something? Again, I just started playing so I very well could be ignorant to the nerfs, lol.

NH suffers from the increase of grimghast. LON suffers from several point increase, including nagash, arkhan, grimghast. grimghast increase is a pretty great blow since the 90 grimghast list might just be not possible anymore.

And a nice boot it is. Could fit with the mongolian theme the new ogre tyrant has. Allthough I don’t think this would fit an ogre... also resembles the Style of Ssyl’eske, so might be Slaaneshi. Cool pic whatever it is

It is too thin for an ogor.....

Hmmm not sure about the Ogors and New Death. Ogors might be just a battle box and no tome (yet), didn't we have something like that before?

And the new Death, yeah it might be this year. I just didn't include them because we don't really know anything about them. The others are confirmed to be Battletomes.

Either way: GW is really producing quite some books this year! 2019 is a new record for AoS releases. :)

    Edit:
As for the Tomes released shortly before 2.0, like LoN, IDK, DOK and Nurgle : I think they are fine. Back then GW said that they designed them with 2.0 already in mind, didn't they?

I am not 100% sure but both the new Death and the ogors trailer are closely related to "bone". So it is a reasonable assumption that the battlebox will be orgor vs new death.

IIRC GW released 8 or 9 Battletomes in 2016, that was the maximum so far.

This year there are 9 if I am not mistaken (counting Orruks, CoS and Sylvaneth already), I admit I'd be kinda surprised if there were more than two additional ones.

It would be a pleasant surprise though, especially if something scaly is involved. :)

Counting those confirmed but not released yet ones, it's alreay 11 tomes

Gitz, skaven, FEC, Khorne, Fyreslayer, S, Slyn, cities of sigmar, orruk, orgor, new death(probably skeleton)

There is at least one more chaos, so it will be at least 12 in total this year.

@Overread that seems a quite ambitious plan to close that many battletomes this year!! They said they would complete the roster by end of 2020, so it’s possible they can actually obtain this before mid 2020 but by the end of 2019 seems just too crammed... some battletomes seem a good occasion to add new miniatures so need more time in the busy schedule.

I personally don’t think we will see more than 2 of the tomes you mentioned this year. Maybe January will bring one or two more but seems more realistic they will be delivered within the next 12 months.

The question is: what will come after? Will we receive updates for existing 2.0 factions or only new armies or a mix?

It really depends, strictly speaking, Nurgle, DOK, idk, LON, SCE and nighthaunt are not fully 2.0 armys by now but none of them are desperate for an update like STD. If we ignore those, then the armies needed to be updated but has not been anounced yet are very few left: STD,  seraphon, KO and TZ.  If so, everything should be done before 2020 April then.

  6. For balance problem, I don't think it will be a big issues. The STD battletome can just empower the STD units in great scale and this won't affect how those units perform in the Chaos god army. For example, FEC dragon is very deadly in FEC army(strike first, attack twice without interruption, but anyone really try using it in LON list?

I am surprised to see the next three warbands out so soon. This must be the most aggressive release gw has ever had for a new product. Killteam had a lot of stuff early on but aside from the scenery it was all repacks of existing minis.

To have 15 warbands playable within a week of launch as well as three different terrain sets is pretty impressive.

It does make for some pretty difficult purchasing decisions. The new board is gorgeous and it looks like the box will be a good way of getting some of that dominion of sigmar scenery at a pretty good price. I have a feeling that it will sell out pretty quickly , so I might buy it instead of the main box.

As for the future, I think we will see at least one battletome on preorder on August 10th followed by a bunch of marine stuff for 40k.

September will be Ogors and maybe sisters.

October will see Beastgrave and the new specialist game.

The new death will go on preorder around Halloween but not actually release until November.

I think we will see a Tzeentch book in December alongside the last two Warcry warbands.

I really don’t expect to see slaves to Darkness until next year.

This is obviously all guesswork but It seems pretty plausible.

I think gw has one more 40k surprise this year. I have a feeling it will be exodites but that might be wishful thinking.

It’s looking pretty far ahead but next year could be very exciting:

KO, Seraphon, light Aelves, slaves to Darkness, Wanderers?!!? and I’m calling it now... a brand new destruction army!

Why tzeetch might get an update earlier than STD? Any sources or just personal guess? From all I know, STD has a much higher chance to get updated before tzeetch.

  8. I am neutral about it. Either leave it there or remove it will be just fine for me.  I do discover that some people hate it because it makes the game less predictable and somehow invalidate their strategy, which upsets them a lot. However, the double does cause some trouble when the damage output is getting more and more crazy because a double turn might just remove most of the army .

Considering the apoc and warcry, the next edition might just remove the battle turn mechanism we currently have and only the battle round is left.

It does if all you have are liberators :D. My first local tournament I HAD to play with what I owned. And that was 2x10liberators. I wish I had access to Azyros rerolls :)

Well, that's a very different story then, pretty hard to image that nowadays, someone will still take a bunch of liberator as the key unit.

  10. Actually, it doesn't really matters......liberator is not a unit that you will expect to do damage in most list.... In most cases,  it is taken for battleline option and might either use it to capture points or as meatshield against not crazy attacks.

  11. The average damage output of a 5-man hunter unit is better than a 5-man liberator in fact in normal cases(against model with less 5 wounds), hunter just lose the reroll 1 save rolls but have better mobility. Another bad thing for hunter is that it is a conditional battleline, but if you are just using one or two small unit, there is no making a big difference. Consider their special ability to DS 7" within an enemy unit, I think their points are fine currently, at least when comparing with the liberators. I have no idea how you guys draw the conclusion that hunter are terrible while liberator are fine.

  12. Well, one thing that worth mentioning is that while some player dislike the idea of cities of sigmar style soup tomb and want to get their separate ones, there will be a problem if all of them get their separate one--its about the update cycle. Even GW keeps the updating speed of this year, it will takes three year to finish a cycle once the cities of sigmar get separated again and some new fractions come out. If GW slow down the updating speed, it might takes four year or more, then it will just go back to the what happens before the cities of sigmar tome come out,  a lot people keeps complaining GW not updating their favorite fraction while waiting for a long time. Do you guys really want this?

this is why I'm upset Leena Stormspire was a Liberator Prime and not a Questor... who tf is taking liberators with swords

are you saying the swords are a closer matchup, since they'd go up to 4+ and not 5+?

I am not saying the sword is definitely better, I just want to remind you guys of the missing thing when do the maths🙂

So what's missing so far (battletomes for existing factions/very likely factions in the future)

    Order

    • Seraphon 2.0
    • KO (maybe included in cities of sigmar)

    Chaos

    • Chaos undiv.
    • Tzeentch & Nurgle 2.0 (unlikely)

    Death

I don't think Soulblight gonna be a thing although it would be cool to get an entire vampire themed army with vamp infantrie (imagine deathguard from TW:WH as your heavy armoured battleline :x), bloodknights 2.0 etc.

    Destruction

Here too, I don't know if they include BCR in the ogre battletome, if they do so, destrucion is finished as death is.

If I'm not missing anything, there is not much work left for GW. So if they keep up pumping out the missing battletomes untill next spring, they can bring up all existing AoS armies to 2.0 level.

From that time on, they can release as many new factions as the want - Light aelves for example.

IAs long as GW is preparing well for AoS 3.0 so they can update all then existing battletomes in a short time, I don't see much of a problem in having at least as much BT as 40k has. Imho they did a good job now in souping severeal subfactions in one battletome and they seem to end that process with Ogors, cities of Sigmar and the Orc BT.

Time for some brand new armies for Death and Destrucion ;)

"Stormcast Eternals into their main force, while Tempest’s Eye and The Living City can draw on aid from the Kharadron Overlords and Sylvaneth, respectively, as full members of your army that share your allegiance abilities."

So KO won't be included in cities of sigmar.

  15. Based on the current state and some assumption, AOS have the following fractions:

    Order

    1. Stormcast
    2. Fyreslayers
    3. Sylvaneth
    4. Seraphon
    5. Kharadron Overlords
    6. Daughters of Khaine
    7. Cities of Sigmar
    8. Hysh Aelf(assumption)
    9. Ulgu Aelf(assumption)

    Chaos

    1. Blades of Khorne
    2. Disciples of Tzeentch
    3. Hedonites of Slaanesh
    4. Maggotkin of Nurgle
    5. Skaven
    6. Beast of Chaos
    7. Slaves to Darkness &  the Everchosen (assumption)
    8. Chaos dwarf(although it is a FW thing, it is a complete army with allegiance ability)

    Death

    1. Legions of Nagash
    2. Nighthaunt
    3. Flesheater Courts
    4. Skeletons(assuptions)

    Destruction

    1. Orruk Warclans
    2. Gloomspite Gitz
    3. Ogor Mawtribes (assumption)

Therefore, 23+1 fractions either already exist or will probably be released in the future.  Assuming, GW keeps the current update speed, 12 books per year, it still takes about two years to update everything.  Hence, I think 24 is somewhat close to the upper limit, more fractions might come out but I don't think there will be a bunch.  From my point of view, the total number should be somewhat below 30,  3 years update cycle is a bit too long.

None of those characters are "Returning to the mortal realms" as far as I know?

Also they survived Sigmars hammer, Krell was dead before the ascent of Sigmar.

    Same goes for Settra.

and Vlad is just a complete rando suggestion lol

We don't know what actually happens in age of myth, so all those old character can be candidate.

Where can I find a rule for that ? I was told by a GW manager it does count as a move this afternoon.

Scoins of the Storm counts as normal reserve, in the latest core rule, reserve unit arriving battlefield does not count as normal move. In the last version, this thing does count as a normal move, so probably that's why the GW manage tell you so. In the latest version, in the latest version, it no longer counts as a move.
