    Rest in peace Dawnbringer shorts.

It's for the best.  The realms are a dangerous place with man-eating mosquitos and leeches and other dangers.  They really should be wearing full length pants instead of shorts on these crusades anyway.

  2. I would love it if gitmobs got broken out into a separate faction!  Having different "flavors" of a fantasy race is always so fun.  I know people joke about aelves having 4 factions, but I would love to see 4 different "flavors" of goblin too!  And duardin!  And Orruks! All of them :D

It really rare in AoS for a foot hero to have an alternative build into another hero. Sometimes we are lucky to even get a different weapon loadout.

If they do, the alternate build is usually a named character.

I feel like the loss of the BoC has really impacted the narrative this edition- The setup for something as good as the Broken Realms series exists, but it feels like they didn't commit to it because the plotline needed to set it up was scrapped. You can see this because I'm pretty sure every codex covers how the faction handles Incarnates, but the Incarnates themselves weren't ever used as a plot point outside of Thondia. (Speculation) This was probably due to both leading up to a BoC refresh and a different story than the Dawnbringer Crusades that probably focused more on Kragnos, . I think the only major through lines I can think of for the crusades that are actually starting to pay off are the CoS, FEC, Skaven, S2D, and the OBR of all people (Specifically the "Mysterious Hooded Speaker of Nagash's will" is literally Arkhan, the OBR battletome says that this is just what he's doing currently).

It feels weird, I think is the main point of all of this.

The lore in the Thondia book also heavily featured a BoC/Bonesplitterz team-up to control an incarnate.  I guess Yndrasta really just beat the ****** outta them :P

  5. Love the rules changes.  I agree the coherency stuff might be annoying, but I think some of you are thinking it's a more common issue than it is.  Yes, nighthaunt and wing-a-ling models won't like it.  I actually am super lazy and stick most of my dudes base to base anyway (a habit I picked up from my Lumineth army) and space-wise it works for most kits.

I own 17 armies at the moment:

    • Khorne
    • Tzeentch
    • Slaves to Darkness
    • Slaanesh
    • SCE
    • CoS
    • Seraphon
    • KO
    • IDK
    • Sylvaneth
    • Lumineth
    • DoK
    • Ogors
    • Warclans
    • GSG
    • SoB
    • Nighthaunt

I can confidently say that across all those armies the only units that I know will have issues with this are a few flyers (like terradons in my seraphon, the occasional skywarden spear jutting out the side, gossamids, spiteriders), a few ultra dynamic poses (namarti if you position them too much on the edge which I have done, witch elves in the same scenario).  It's a fairly niche issue that I'm confident can be resolved.

    Suposed new leaks.

I also don’t believe the Fyreslayers going away bit (even with BoC biting the dust). FS were one of the harbingers for the dawnbringers narrative which I’m fairly sure means they’ll see a significant expansion of sorts.

  7. Well I’m incredibly sad to see BoC leave AoS. I was pretty sure that wouldn’t happen. I guess i can still hope for an “AoSified” version of them later, but it’s a downer for sure. My first real aos army was boc after all. On top of that, sacrosanct leaving (probably without replacement models) is sad. I love those stupid chonky robey boys and girls. My bonesplitterz will be eating it up in green fungusy heaven. My 32 spire tyrants that i bought to be chaos marauders can obviously still be proxies, but i still feel sad for them.

I’ll get over it. I own like 15 aos armies the new stuff is always better in the long run, but it’s okay to be sad about it for a bit.

On the brightside, I guess I finally have an excuse to try old world.

  9. On the topic of 5th edition speculation (if you tell me it's too early, then I'll be forced to share my thoughts on rules-changes coming in 6th edition), I actually think 5th will be order "focused".
1st: A lot of people see this as the "chaos edition" since it was Khorne vs SCE.  However, the real "victors" of 1st edition were the forces of order, not chaos.  Chaos already held almost the entirety of the realms before Sigmar's Tempest and the founding of the Cities of Sigmar was the great triumph of order in 1st edition.  In my mind, 1st edition is actually an "order edition" that happened to have a chaos opponent.  Notably this edition also included the release of KO, IDK, Syvaneth, Fyreslayers all with substantial new model waves. Chaos did also get major Khorne and Tzeetch waves, but Destruction only got IJ and Death got mostly nothing if memory serves (they got a couple tomes, but no model waves).
2nd: Obviously the "death edition".  You had 3 new waves of death models and Nighthaunt, OBR and Soulblight all either were or felt like new armies.  Sure, you had your Lumineth, your SoB, GSG, CoS, but Death got a lot.  Death made lots of gain narratively bringing themselves into relevance.
3rd: A decent "destruction edition".  Never really got narrative focus, but you got quite a few things for GSG (like 4 kits), SoB (2 new builds which for them is a lot I guess lol), 1 "new faction" KB, a refresh plus expansion to IJ.  Only Ogors missed the invite to the party, but even then they got a hero and a unit (gorgers) and a new terrain piece, so not nothing. Oh and a large displaced centigor.  Arguably this edition was not too focused on destruction though as much as 2nd felt like it was for death. Most notably, destruction didn't really feel like it had a big "win" this edition.  At least not to me.
4th: Apparently the "chaos edition".  Skaven making a big impact certainly is a way to set the edition off in that direction.  If rumors are to be believed (and they are because Whitefang is awesome) then Chorfs are on the way this edition as well.  I suppose if BoC actually do get removed at some point, then that could put a damper on the chaos edition, but I'd imagine that narratively Chaos will make significant gains this edition.

Thus, my theory is that 5th will see order making the narrative "gains" into 5th again.  Does that mean an order v order launch box?  Maybe?  I actually would love to see SCE/CoS vs Malerion, but that's probably a pipedream.  I could see order stabilizing a bunch after whatever setbacks they suffer in 4th.  I do think it will feel like an order edition at least in a narrative sense.  Easy to see how Kurnothi/Malerion/Lumineth-Temples/Grungni-dwarves/Gholemkind/others could all swoop in during that 2027-2030 timeframe to really make it feel like an order edition though.

If every rumor turns out to be wrong then I'll be more excited than any hype build could possibly do.

I still don't believe the BoC leaving rumor.  That's in large part because I don't want it to be true, but also because I just can't see any logical reason for it.  If they do "leave" I imagine it would be just the current models mostly leaving alongside a largish model refresh akin to the seraphon one.  I have no source for this, but it's what makes sense to me.

This looks like cash grab mobile game art. I know it's not but geez is that a step-down in art quality.

See, I actually love this style, but I do prefer this aesthetic to some of the oldhammer arts that many seem to love.

  12. Sons of TGA! Of Morghur! My beast-brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of the weak manlings. A day may come when our tome is squatted, when we forsake our horns and break all bonds of the herdstone, but it is not this day. An hour of the man-god and shattered hooves when the Age of the beast comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we bray! By all that you hold dear on this foul earth, I bid you stand, Beasts of Chaos!

Obviously Wave 3 for LRL. Like I say IDK have been squatted. There is zero interest at GW in supporting them.

I have nothing to back this up of course, but I really really really don't think IDK are going anywhere.  Sure, they might not get any major expansions for a good while, but sooner or later they'll have their day in the sun... or well maybe not the sun since they like the bottom of the ocean, but y'know, their day in the geothermal vents or whatever.

EDIT: Actually I can back it up a little, but only by inference.  At various points in the last 4 years or so people were doom posting about humans in AoS and Ironjawz in AoS.  People doom posted about Sylvaneth.  People doom posted about Skaven and many more.  Today, it's all IDK, Beasts of Chaos and Bonesplitterz.  I mean, obviously I can't see the future and yes GW does deprecate armies occasionally, but especially nowadays they seem to love revitalization... it just takes time.

Star wars: Legion uses a similar system, and it works very well. You blindly choose tokens representing orders for the types of units you activate, but you also have lots of options for control. Some commanders can activate units, some units generate their own orders and can activate themselves. Some units benefit from being activated sooner or later. Its a fantastically complex and tactical system and once I played it I found I hate going back to the traditional GW style.

I'll counter and say that I loathe Star Wars Legion and a large part of that is its order system.  I like alternating activations though (mostly).

  16. No one ever mentions the slaaneshi stage of children. I had a 2-3 year old of mine once tell my wife (who was feeding our 1 year-old), “Mom, I wish your [apparently you can’t say this word] had more nipples, then they could be a cactus 🌵 “.

EDIT: Apparently my three year old knows naughty words according to the censor

  17. I've got a rumor for y'all today.  Comes straight from a dream I had last night plus a few extra ideas I had on them since this morning :D.  I guess technically it's not a rumor per-se or is it????

    Fyreslayers -

    • Diabladroth.  Thing of a cross between the Diablo 3 incarnation of Diablo and a Magmadroth.  It's a 14 wound monster on a 100mm base that stands upright.
    • Salamand Riders.  Flying salamander-mounted duardin cavalry. Not as big as stormdrake riders.
    • Lava Gholems.  Just fiery gholem-kind.  Or something like that... I think.  The dream is fuzzy at that point with FS.

    Kharadron Overlords -

    • Grundstok Pummeler - Think Primaris Invictor Tactical Warsuit, but with the style of Big Daddy from Bioshock.  Idk how it plays, but in my dream it came in units of 2 at around 100 points per model.
    • Arkanaut Interceptors... I think - Fuzzy on this one too, but it was basically a 1-man gunhauler.  Sorta intrudes on the space of gyrocopters I guess, but I think the idea was that it was a squadron of 3-5 or something.
    • Grundstok Aethermatic Platform - Think Chinese Spy Balloon but with guns.  Unmanned floating platform controlled remotely via some techno-aethermatic process.  Not as mobile and unable to control objectives or transport anything, but has good guns and maybe a magic dampening field.
    • Aether Gholems.  Same as the lava gholems, but all kharadron-y.

I know I dreamt about some other factions too, but I can't remember them at all now :(

Oh, so maybe it'll be a Horns of Hashut =/= Chorfs situation 😥

Except Chorfs are coming... eventually.  Those steam engines and bulky armored dudes don't move that quickly!  Takes even longer when they have to get all the hobgrots moving too!

There's some WFB minis in AoS that I think are going nowhere, like for example the End Times stuff, Witch Elves, the demons...

Talking about CoS, we have now 7 kits revealed. Seeing the Nids have had 13 kits for their range refresh, I would expect another 6 on their way for us. Not counting the scenery which is something more for broader AoS players than just for us. Obviously there's the artillery, but I feel there's likely some foot hero(es) waiting around the corner.

Good point, i guess i meant more in the context of CoS because yeah, i doubt witch elves will go anywhere

  20. Yeah, I think at this point if you have any WHFB minis then you should realize their days of use in AoS (other than as proxies) is numbered.

EDIT: I don't say this to be a pessimist.  I have demis and phoenix temple and wanderers (all painted and everything and I even bought them for AoS; I never played WHFB).  I'm not mad about them leaving.  It makes sense to me.  It also makes sense to me to no longer assume that older minis will stick around for long.

I get that. I am always super drawn towards infantry heavy armies as well. But I also know that there is a pretty big gap between my enthusiasm for having an infantery army and for painting it. So I have to pace myself, haha.

Personally, I’m much more terrified to paint the cavaliers lol. Those things are awesome, but crazy

    25. • Black Ark Corsairs
    26. • Black Guard
    27. • Dark Riders
    28. • Drakespawn Chariots
    29. • Drakespawn Knights
    30. • Executioners
    31. • Gyrobombers
    32. • Gyrocopters
    33. • Hammerers
    34. • Irondrakes
    35. • Scourgerunner Chariots
    36. • Celestial Hurricanum
    37. • Kharibdyss
    38. • Luminark of Hysh
    39. • Steam Tank
    40. • War Hydra
    41. Steelhelms
    42. Cavaliers
    43. Fusiliers
    44. Marshall
    45. Alchemite
    46. Thalia Vedra
    47. Warhulk
    48. Cannon (whitefang confirmed)
    49. Elites (Big Axe Render)
    50. Big Religious Kit (Religious bits render)
    51. Unrevealed Unit 1 (e,g Warpriest)
    52. Unrevealed Unit 2 (e.g Witch Hunter)
    53. Unrevealed Unit 3 (e.g. Outriders)
    54. Unrevealed Unit 4 (e.g THE WAR WAGON)

Now includes the two griffons and Flagellants. Looks like the Flagellants will be the Grave Guard of Cities.

This leaves us with at most 6 7 more kits to be revealed.

EDIT: Forgot to remove Shadow Warriors even though I just posted about them.

Even better!  In the current CoS warscrolls, the Hurricanum and Luminark hero and non-hero profiles are actually merged onto the same physical warscroll.  So instead of taking up 4 slots, they only take up 2 IF they keep doing that the same way with this new book.  So there's potential that could be 9 kits.
