Still they're a lot better for smaller skirmish matches and I love all the models and the chance to pick up units from factions I dont collect so still going straight into the basket. Personally I just think they should just make the (smaller model count) support units a bit more elite than their massed rank standard unit counterparts even if just giving them an extra wound or some kind of built in MW save.

I always thought it would be cool if you could upgrade regular units using the Underworlds warbands.

Like, this unit of skeletons gets upgraded to become the Sepulchral Guard, and the Sepulchral Warden replaces the usual unit champion and can resurrect any of them. Or this unit of thirty Bloodreavers is now Garrek's Reavers, and when he claims trophies he buffs the whole lot.

Wouldn't work for all of them, but most of them have a corresponding "regular" unit in AoS. Might be a fun idea for open/narrative play if nothing else.

There seems to be a manflayer warband in warcry according to the different warband logos. So it might be that as well ;)

Sure, if you want to be all sensible about it, but I thought we were going for rampant speculation here.

Besides what if that warband is actually LED BY THE LICHEMASTER? 😮

The cloth patchwork with face is probably new fabius bile. He has a face on his cloak

You know who else wears flayed skin with a face on it?

    Heinrich Kemmler.

He died in the End Times, but not before pledging allegiance to Chaos over Nagash, and there's a few Chaos champions from the World That Was who've turned up in the Mortal Realms...

I for one would love a Death faction led by the Lichemaster in defiance of Nagash.

Adepticon is next week. I’m hoping for more Warcry too, but it wasn’t that long since the trailer so I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get much more so soon after.

If they've showed off minis in the trailer, I could see them being put out on display in a cabinet at Adepticon and some better static pics put up online.

My money's on more Forbidden Powers info.

Can anyone spot the 5th and 6th faction? I see Gladiators, Darkoath, Beastmen, Harpies. For a moment I thought there was a Skaven, but now I think that's just a Darkoath with a skull hat.

The one on the left looks like a flayed face, and I'm pretty sure the one on the right is Thulsa Doom. 😉

I know people are not exactly happy with that product either but aos skirmish is exactly the product you are asking for @Shankelton I was not into the idea of chaos only when we first heard about it but that was a failure of imagination on my part.

One of the best things about this reveal is that we have seen three warbands so far and none of them are just new Khorne, Tzeentch,  Nurgle,  Slaanesh or Skaven warbands.

From the icons, I am guessing that none of the first six warbands will.

Then we have multi tiered scenery which will be usable in skirmish too, campaign play,  character advancement etc. It very much feels like Aos Mordheim which didn't have warbands from every faction either.

Bolded that last bit for emphasis.

I've seen a few people on FB making complaints about the lack of variety compared to Mordheim; they're either forgetting or are ignorant of how narrow the focus of those initial warbands was. At launch, we had humans, hairy humans, rich humans, religious humans, differently religious humans, Chaos humans, undead humans, and Skaven. All of those Empire factions made sense, because the game was set in the ruins of an Empire city, just like Warcry is set in a Chaos wasteland.

It was through Town Cryer that we eventually got rules for so many warbands in Mordheim, and there's a good chance we'll see the same for Warcry in White Dwarf.

"Over time, these melanges of races and creeds have intermingled, forming new alliances and factions thirsty to prove themselves or to avenge their predecessors. An army or garrison from a Sigmarite city may include a dozen different kinds of footsoldiers, knightly orders, beast riders, proven militia and city guard, all with their own uniforms, traditions and rivalries. .”

It does mention other races as to imply it is not just humans in the ranks of the Freeguilds, but the problem comes back that it is still humans that make up the ranks of the Freeguilds.

You're making a big assumption about what they mean by "races". Could just as easily be taking about human ethnicity.

  8. I think the interesting thing to take away from the Stormvault game is that it's clearly something to do with all four of the Chaos gods judging by the cards at the front of the picture - which gives some indication that Chaos may play a big part in the Forbidden Powers expansion, probably tying in with Warcry and a Darkoath and/or Slaanesh release.

  9. I could actually see this being way more focused on narrative play. Consider that Underworlds is 100% focused on competitive, matched play - it's already there for people who want a tight, balanced, tournament-friendly game - meanwhile Path to Glory is no longer in print, and out of date with the new edition of AoS, so this could be the perfect thing to replace it as an entry-level narrative campaign system.

I think, the Dispossessed would only need new Warriors, Thunderers and Quarrellers that fit with the Ironbreakers, Longbeards, Ironbreakers and Hammerers and they would mostly be fine.

Honestly I could see them just dropping the warriors and thunderers/quarrelers.

Longbeards, Hammerers, and Ironbreakers already look great as the basis for an army of armoured Dwarf infantry, just the same as the Irondrakes are an impressive-looking missile unit.

Most battletomes don't have more than that many options for infantry. I think purely from a design standpoint, there's not much to be added to the look of the army by making new kits for the basic Dwarf grunts.
