  1. This update is pretty big honestly.

    First thoughts on everything

I think bringing 2 Monsters is fine (not counting Shaggoth) so Cockatrices, Chimera, or Ghorgons are all fine. Cygor only if you need to remove Endless spells.

    1. Bullgors has 2 weapons are are good now, Paired and Great. I feel Paired might be the better pick now.
    2. Bestigors still are meh to bring but 1 unit should be ok to bring now with -2/3 rend.
    3. Beastlord is slightly more optional now with -2/3 rend as a support hero. Gavespawn got a boost over all now too.
    4. +1PCP every player turn is very good!
    5. Allherd might be crazy good with +1PCP every turn, given CP that is 1 summoning every turn no matter what.
    6. Enlighten are just better and always were great.
    7. All Chaff got batter, DO's, Centigors, Hounds, etc.. bc -1 rend, still be careful bc many armies has ignore -1 rend units. Turn 3 this skyrockets making summoning turn 3 a lot more interesting. Heck this helps Cockatrice spam too lol.
    8. Ghorgons seem a lot stronger now, still glass cannons but high rend and healing, for sure an support bruiser.
    9. Herdstone can be placed almost anywhere and not care now.
    10. TEoF got a huge boost (any unit going from -1 to -2 rend did, but being so cheap already this is very important)
    11. Rally can be clutch good for us, but at the cost of no Immune Bravery, 3-6 mans might be the sweet spot now and 10man units less so.

New White Dwarf rules to remember for list building

    1. BoC Monstrous Rampages (some) can work against Hunters of the Heartland battalion bc they do not pick those units.
    2. Monstrous Rampages can work not in combat, Primal Road can give 1 PCP turn 1.
    3. Thunderscorn can heal while not in combat, so can sac to stone without worry about bravery
    4. Herdstone starts at 12" but table wide bonus to rend in melee, can hide it easier now and still be useful.
    5. Sevireth Scour doesn't smash terrain for purpose of Smash and Grand Strat

Overall we got a good power boost, with 1-2 more summons a game, getting to the -2 rend so much easier now. The Herdstone not needing to be up front is also a good boost. We still are a glass army though and that is fine.

February 18th huh... well I guess once I get my dose of dissapointment from that WD BoC release I can go wash it off with the global launch of Lost Ark heh... joking, the servers will be so pack It`ll be a miracle to even get into the game in the first place. :D

Yeah refreshing the line would be nice. Its funny how BoC minis for the most part managed to hold up consistently over a decade and a half. Just shows you how well designed those sculpts were. Now if only they did us justice and we got properly scaled Centigors, new pumbagors, etc (though I think at best we can expect maybe two updated unit model lines and maybe finally a proper BoC Chariot lord ?). Update for the goatboys to be more wild, skirmishy looking in order to loose up on the rank and file look carried over from Old Hammer.

And I would really like to get some proper Harpies... although, then again unless we got a proper rules overhaul so that the army can actually be good without resorting to several post launch massive price decreases, I am not really interested in miniatures. But I can see painters and collectors who would love that so for their sake I hope we can get something nice looking that also plays well.

Yeah... I am waiting for Lost Ark too lol

Hope not on bated breath.  Hope is the first step to disappointment or whatever.

TBH it will be something that will do something and likely a small boost if not a good one.

Its not about hope but it is new and could change my current list.

I was actually hoping for a new book.

now with the white dwarf update that seems very unlikely.

personally I’m hoping that we aren’t just getting some more meaningless buffs on gors.

Yep, I am going to guess at least a year away.

  5. My actual list I will be running is more like this

    Gargant or Khorne DP
    Shaggoth AA/MoM
    Shaman/Garshrak
    X hero (Tshaman or Doom)
    DO's x3 Optional 6
    DO's x3
    DO's x3
    TEoF or Bullgors
    TEoF or Bullgors
    Centigors x1 or x2
    Chariot x1 or x2
Depending on main Ally hero, will be Chimeras or Cockatrices

I have 3 Chimeras and 3 Cockatrices but now with DO's so cheap, I might do more of them and a Mega.

  6. Looking over the Flagellants new WD Battle tactic it got me thinking and I could not find it anywhere (though I could be over looking it or looking in wrong spots).

Can you choose a unit that is off the table to complete a Battle Tactic?

The only rules I found were

    Quote

3.1 Units cannot cast spells or use abilities while they are in reserve unless the spell or ability specifically says it can be used by reserve units.

And looking up what an ability is

    Quote

    22.4 ABILITIES
Most warscrolls include one or more abilities (see 1.6). You must use the rules on a unit’s warscroll if the unit is part of your army. The abilities section will also include information about any command abilities or magic the unit can use.

So I see no reason why I can not, but it feels like you should not be able to.

It's great that Nighthaunt and FEC can run him now, but his warscroll was ~heavily~ nerfed with no reduction in points value.  He might still see some play in Nighthaunt, who are desperate for decent monster heroes, but FEC already have fantastic, points efficient monstrous heroes.  His points would have to come down A LOT to see regular play in competitive FEC lists imo, especially since his invocation as written can't be used on any FEC units.

Unless maybe crypt ghouls will get the 'summonable' keyword back next time around?

Anyway, it's nice to see him for fluff reasons and for narrative big games, but I don't think his new warscroll will be making a significant competitive splash any time soon.  We'll see, though.

What was actually nerfed? I never actually played him and everytime i played against i just ignored and sat on points letting him basically kill 1 unit a turn.

No, you don't need to talk about that if you don't want. Nobody will force you to write here!!!
Btw, this post will not change anything,. It's just to have some fun talking about our favorite and expensive hobby, and maybe even learn something new!!

That's a really good question. I was one of the dudes that didn't want anything to do with SvsT, but after 3.0 and reading Orruks and SCE warscrolls, I'm thinking again and again about exactly the same thing:

    Dual-wielding Liberators.
Why someone want to use them over sword+board? Not sure, but maybe S vs T (even some profile tweaks) could be the answer.
Having a 110 p battleline unite that can threaten 20 Goblins, Zombies or even Orruks will change the persepctive of just having a "hammer" unit to do all the work. I don't know how this could be accomplished, but it could help other similar units like Prosecutors.

Btw,  @PJetski  is doing an awesome work (just read SCE discussion)!! I'm going to use your S and T list to just see what happens.

My points was, everything has already been said in the other post, nothing enough changed from 2nd to 3rd to matter.

  9. Now I want to play lists like this... thanks GW for making it even more DO/Cockatrice focus and leaving Brayherds off the table. Yeah I have Grashrak but only bc Herdstone and his spell.

    Shaggoth 155
    Shaggoth 155
    Grashrak 150
    Dragon Ogres x6 250
    Dragon Ogres x6 250
    Dragon Ogres x3 125
    Dragon Ogres x3 125
    Dragon Ogres x3 125
    Grashrak's Despoilers
    Cockatrice 95
    Cockatrice 95
    Cockatrice 95
    Cockatrice 95
    Cockatrice 95
    Cockatrice 95
    Cockatrice 95

so I guess Dos spamming armies can now be considered a horde army.

Their only purpose, dying in droves.

They are a bit more tanky than you would think. But I could see 18 in an army now, thats only 750pts, they are 8.33 points per wounds, thats 0.83ppm more than Gors and DOs are better in almost every way.

  11. As a BoC player I am both happy and mad at the same time. DO and Bullgors/Warherds are where they need to be at for their terrible rules, but it just makes Bestigors/Brayherd even more bad than it was before..... which was bad already.

All my lists I am coming up with are basically 3 units of DO's, Bullgors, Cockatrices, and heroes. IDK if any Brayherd list is actually viable anymore compare to what we can take.

Also the AoD change kind of makes me sad, they should have said anything over 9 wounds is a 6+++ and let us take it on smaller heroes to give them the ability to not die from 1 rock throw or 2 units of Sentinels.

Its amazing how this change didn't touch Bestigors but they now feel so much worse now that they are more expensive than both Bullgors and Dragon Ogors.

This was my biggest issue with it.... But oh boy are DOs and Bullgors better.

To be fair Grand Strategies in general were pretty botched. There are two or three auto takes and the rest are just completely ignored (unless someone gets bored and wants a challenge). It's pretty tough to write a faction specific grand strategy easier than Hold the Line or Prized Sorcery for the right armies.

As far as battle tactics go I haven't seen stormcast or kruelboyz, but the maggotkin list has some interesting choices. About half of them are definitely attainable in most games, but what I find most interesting is they're more difficult to counter than the standard tactics. For example when someone picks Break Their Ranks the opponent knows what unit they're going after so they can redeploy/all out defense and do everything to try to protect that unit. In maggotkin there is a tactic to kill more units than you lose. That can be more challenging than killing a single battleline unit, but it doesn't specify a target so a single good redeploy roll or all out defense isn't likely to ruin the whole thing. There are others that are completely dice dependent and unlikely to ever be picked, but there are enough decent ones that I'm happy the list is there.

I think that has something more to do with the meta and you must pick it for your army than the options themselves. If you could pick it when you start the game it would be massively different of importance.

According to this vote BoC isnt even doing that bad this year. If they ever get an update i might consider buying them as my first chaos army to be honest.

That was the point, just bc an army isn't updated much or bad doesn't mean people can't love them :)
