  1. Hey there,

Couldn't help but notice we don't have a Slaanesh discussion thread yet. I've been playing them a lot, and I think they're pretty fun. Fiends and Daemonettes are solid units and work well together, but there's some mounted units in there you can run in a thematic force as well, and they've all got great movement. I made a faction rundown video for them in case anyone's on the fence about taking them for a spin.

This is wear its gets interesting. You get lots of options here for viable lists. A good option without any Allies would be

    - 1 x Wrathmonger Leader

    - 1 x Khorgorath

    - 1 x Skullreaper

    - 6 x Blood Reavers with Reaver Axes

This gives you some hard hitters in the Khorgorath, the Skullreaper with his triple and the Wrathmonger with his quad and  leader triple to buff anyone around him.

I've been messing around with Khorne recently and I really wish I'd seen this post earlier, because I came to the exact same list eventually. I think this is the best build if you're trying to win since the Wrathmonger is the most aggressively costed leader and you want to have as many bloodreavers as possible. There's a big incentive to have 1 skullreaper and no more - even though it's not a great deal for the points the durability is useful and the ability is great to use once.  Then the Khorgorath is just everything the Ogor Breacher wishes it could be.

That said there's some sweet 'fun' lists possible with this varied roster. I really want to test the following out in a casual setting:

    140 - Bloodreaver Champion

    235 - Khorgorath

    235 - Khorgorath

    235 - Khorgorath

    65 - Bloodreaver Two Axes

    65 - Bloodreaver Two Axes

Not the most competitive thing you can be doing but monsters are a ton of fun.

On the Demon side I think the mobility of the Flesh Hound is being underrated a bit, and the Bloodcrusher is really good as a mobile anvil. The Bloodcrusher triple is the same as a whole bunch of other warbands, but it's more exciting on the Bloodcrusher because of the tankiness. The list variation is much lower with Demons but the units complement each other so well I find they play much more smoothly than they read. I had so much fun with them that I ended up recording a video, which I'd never done before.  There's some beginner mistakes in the recording that I hope people will forgive, and I think I can clear it up before the next time I do something like this.

Here's the vid. Any comments from fellow Khorne players would be greatly appreciated.  (btw the user names are different, bc of course I never thought to consider I should have the same name everywhere on the internet)

Agree with Jpjr that the shaft looks too thin to support the hammerhead here. Otherwise, A tree trunk with fancy casing feels somewhat close to the rumors we've heard about Sons of Behamut. The Sylvaneth tome mentions the Oakenbrow adopting SoBs after their godbeast died. I could see some hoity-toity giants adopted by ents using weapons like this.

Tyrion doesn't need to have a miniature the same way Sigmar or Gorkamorka doesn't have one. He has god stuff to do.

This has always bothered me about the intersection of models and the lore. When I read the Sylvaneth lore I'm never in awe of Alarielle the way I'm supposed to be. In the back of my head I'm thinking: how can she be the great defender of nature when 20 KO thunderers could just fly over and blast her to pieces like they do in games? Meanwhile GorkaMorka keeps his mystique because I hear about his adventures on an incredible, worldbending scale. I'm not thinking about how he'd lose a fight to just 1 of the thousands of ghoul kings that ride zombie dragons and happen to be wandering around the mortal realms.

  5. There's already a few channels out there doing battle reports, so try to figure out what makes yours different. There's definitely room for another, as long as you've got a unique flavor. For example RR1s are a little goofy and they definitely get across the idea that the game is supposed to be fun.

If you're doing a competitive report, maybe do a quick rundown of why you chose the lists you chose, and what they're each hoping to achieve. If you're doing a narrative report, anything you can do to make it feel like an immersive story will make it more fun to watch. A few of the channels out there are just "some dude showed up, here's his army, now we're playing. Here's a close up of a dice roll, because that's real fun to watch, right?" As long as you bring a little more than that to the table, I'm sure people will be into it.

Also it‘s pretty clear that the only other new models they‘ll reveal will be a bone-fortress of some sort which makes this army feel really small and lackluster?

I felt a little empty too, but to their credit they've got basic foot troops, elite foot, cav, a big hero, 2 flavors of little hero, and an artillery piece. I think that's about the same as Ironjawz? At least within one.  I think it's enough to sink into if you love the look.

Personally I let out a huge sigh of relief when I saw them and didn't like them. Finally a new kit I don't have to pine for.

Bestigors also run and charge, its what the musician does for the unit.

Wow. So for 1500 pts you can get 2 blocks of 30 bestigors into a depraved drove with a shaman and 3x30 gors.

Lets say you spend the other 500 on things that stick to the battalion. Thats 152-185 or so models moving 14" pre-charge on turn 1 to clog up all the objectives. They all have 4+ save and you can inspiring presence 1 of them to make up for the low bravery. Now the larger base size could even be an advantage. How's your opponent supposed to maneuver around the board? That's a bit more painting than I'm willing to do, but for a tournament player the rewards could be real.

They're faster than daemonettes by a minimum of 4". You have to bring a character for Depraved Drove so you bring a Great Bray Shaman who has an aura +3 Move buff and the Bestigors get +1 to run and pile in moves from their banner. The larger base is a negative (harder to bring the entirety of the unit to bear) but speed wise they outpace daemonettes.

Daemonettes actually move 9.5" because of their run and charge rule, but yes, that Shaman totally negates the mobility difference.

  9. Thanks. Between Syll'Esske's CA working well with mortals and the Manticore Lord, there might be a nice StD Supreme Sybarites Battalion list in this book somewhere. Maybe with Godseekers to make it easier for the spear knights to hit their high-damage charge turns.

Those bestigor numbers look really strong. You have to give up some space for the great demon heroes to run depraved drove, but it's crazy that they cost the same as daemonettes. I don't have a great sense for whether larger base size and lower mobility make up for it, but thats a lot more damage per model and better durability. Maybe the Daemonette battleshock shananigans play better on the table than they look on paper?

  10. Hey I noticed the exploding 6s allegiance ability doesn't effect all attacks profiles equally. An attack that hits on 3s&4s and an attack that hits on 4s&3s normally both do .333 dmg per swing. However with the slaanesh buff the 3s&4s deals .416, and the 4s&3s attack deals .444. It isnt a huge difference, but it adds up over time.

Unfortunately most of the slaanesh book is on 4s to wound. Are there any good units out there with 3s to wound that can be a part of a Slaanesh army? I found Chaos Warriors with greatblades, and Chaos Knights with spears, but if anyone has other ideas I'd love help brainstorming. Alternately, any wizards with a +1 to wound buff would find their spell amplified by an allegiance to She who Thirsts. Are there any buffs like that in StD or BoC?

    Persian Cow People Confirmed!

Ok I would actually buy a slaaneshi bullgor box with robes and a mix of cows and bulls. They could have those elegant persian maces instead of the normal axes.

Part of me thinks that if they had two sweet boxes of mortal troops they would have shown them. Why not shoot your best shot in the biggest preview show of the year? However, I think the warcry rollout could give some people hope. They accidentally gave the impression it was chaos only because they just wanted to have a cool theme for their first preview vid. Maybe they just wanted a "demon champions" theme for their adepticon preview? It seems like an odd approach to me, bit they've done it successfully in the past.

  12. Hi,

I just went to my first ever Warhammer tournament yesterday. Here's my report, and my impressions of the army.

    Stormhost: Tempest Lords

Lord Arcanum on Gryph - Thundershock

    Knight Incantor - Azyrite Halo

    2x5 Sequitors

    5 Evocators

    3 Castigators

    1 Celestar Ballista

Round 1 - Nighthaunt: This was my first ever game of warhammer. We played one with 4 objectives in a diamond pattern around the board. I sat my ballista on my home objective and it did WORK. I crushed Reikenor and some Harridans coming down my right flank, but I think I sent too many resources that way, because I got destroyed on my left objective. We ended up tied on VPs, but I got a minor loss on kill points. I may have had poor threat assessment, because I only did 2 damage to his unit of 30 Grimghast reapers before they entered combat, and they tore through everything they touched.  Lessons learned in this one - keep the heroes close to the action, but don't rush them into combat. I missed out on some buffs because my general wasn't close enough to the front lines, then I overcorrected and got run over by reapers. The Knight Incantor did an incredible amount of spell damage until I ran her into combat with a Dreadblade Harrow.  After the game a bystander told me I could have won if I'd retreated my last surviving Sequitor and the Knight in order to deny the kill points.

Round 2 - Khorne:  We played Take and Hold. I set up my Castigators and Ballista on my home objective behind 5 Sequitors and the heroes. Later my Evos and the other Sequitors deepstriked near the Bloodreavers holding his objective. My poor opponent had to slog across the board while taking Ballista shots and the Incantor spell to the face. Blood Tithe table encourages MSU, but the Knight Incantor really punishes that approach. I got my first win!

Round 3 - Flesh eater courts: The scenario didn't matter. My opponent's army was just 3 monsters. That was it. My whole army died on turn 1. I actually almost won because I deep striked onto his abandoned objectives and got way ahead on points, but once he finished eating my main army, he came and ate the reserves. This opponent's only loss was to another FEC army, which won the tournament.

Impressions of the army: I liked it.  The Knight Incantor and the Celestar Ballista were much more effective than I thought they'd be.  The sequitors did exactly what I expected. The Evocators were great, but my opponents knew they were great so played around them. I don't think I ever got the hang of the best way to use the Lord Arcanum on Gryph. He did well in combat, but I never wanted to risk him, because his buffs were so important.  That might take some experience. Meanwhile, the castigators were terrible They did nothing all day. Opponents laughed off their shots. They were weirdly durable in combat, but if your castigators are in combat you're already losing, so  that doesn't help at all. What should I replace them with? Maybe 10 Skink allies and a 20 point spell? I don't know but I'm open to suggestions.

Where would you go as far as expanding this to 2K? Recently bought 10 more Sequitors and some Evos on cats, but that still leaves a lot of room.

  13. Hey there,

New to stormcast and looking for advice. My first army was a 1300 pt mishmash of Seraphon, but I've never played at 2k pts before. After getting the stormcast 1/2 of soul wars, I'm fairly certain I want to build toward the following army core:

240 Lord Arcanum on GC (general)

    240 Lord Arcanum on CD

    400 20 Sequitors

    120 5 Sequitors

    200 5 Evocators

    300 3 Evo Thundercats

    120 Cleansing Phalanx

    1620 pts 94 wounds 1 extra cp

I'm at a loss for what to do with the final 380 pts. I need to include 1 battleline, but otherwise it could be anything. I'll probably start with a Knight Incantor, 3 Castigators and 5 Judicators, since I have the models, but that seems a bit unfocused. I have a few ideas for the final chunk of the force, but could use some advice from ppl who have actually played at the higher pt totals. Here's the 3 ideas I've been kicking around, but I'm open to completely different suggestions too.

Lane Blocking: (might be weak to flying but can otherwise drop down from the sky to block off major areas of the board with bodies and the Lord's defensive buff)

    100 Lord Castellant

    200 2x5 Liberators

    60 10 Skinks (allies)

    20 Soul Snare Shackles

Shooting Support: (I've heard shooting is worse in 2.0, but archers still seem like the only way to camp an objective and still contribute to the main fight)

    120 1 Knight Venator

    160 5 Judicators

100 3 Prosecutor Javs or a celestar ballista

    The Comet:

    140 Knight Incantor

    100 Everblaze Comet

    120 5 Sequitors

Any advice/help on the best way to spend 380 pts in SCE would be much appreciated. I'm hoping for a list hard enough to go to a tournament and feel like I have a chance in every game, but I'm a casual/social gamer at heart so I need something that won't make anyone salty at the FLGS.
