Honestly I truly believe it was to make money.   Otherwise if they were not better so many existing stormcast players would have less incentive to purchase the new units

By that logic everyone would be after Dracoline Evocators, the Tauralon and the Lord Exorcist... but they aren't. Evocators and Sequitors are internally imbalanced perhaps, but the idea that all the new units are immense to incentivise purchase doesn't hold up.

Evocators at 240 may be too much. 220 with the Paladins dropping as described should suffice. They are still pretty fragile and slow, so have some defined weaknesses.

    Sequitors should be 140.

Castigators as battleline if makes some sense, but 240 for your core tax is very cheap... don't know about that.

Dracoth cavalry should not be core - there is no reason to further emphasise the value of the star drake.

Prosecutors should just be battleline. Would add an additional bit of flavour to Stormcast armies, because they aren't replacing what Libs/Juds/Seqs do.

Has anyone had any experience with the Lord-Exorcist? I love the model so I'm pretty much painting it for that reason alone, but it seems like a pretty situational unit for 140pts.

    I have...

He's not great for his own spell - the range is preposterously low and the casting value means the chances of actually ever doing the thing he is supposed it is minimal. Gorgeous though. I will say, if you have endless spells it makes him a useful user of that because others can use their own actually useful spells for something. Something like starfall could be nice on him too. Plus an extra dispel is not to be sniffed at it. He's not bad, but an Incantor is clearly superior.

If they died, why use their models? :)

You said it was unthematic on the basis of old world emnities. Those no longer exist. Aesthetically I would agree that they don't match, but yoru argument to why they are unthematic is erroneous.

Can't agree. This anvilgard box is really anti-thematic. Especially if we remember what emotions where between old empire and dark elves. Yeah I know that now they are in the same grand alliance but just look at them. They don't  match. If i ever buy this box it'll be because i need stormcast minis and privateers minis for my two seperate armies.

Somebody who came up with allies mechanic earned GW a lot of money. It's almost obligatory if you want to be competetive and they sell old minis. It wasn't made to let people make more thematic armies.

How do you know this? The Allies rules haven't even been released.

Also there is no such thing as empire and dark elves. They all died.
