Do also note that increased gating by GW makes that NPE worse.

Previously, the (in this case LRL) faction abilities were gated behind a paywall, which was annoying

Locking the warscrolls away as well increases the "Gotcha" effect because only people that pirate or fork over hundreds of euros in books they don't need have any idea what an opponent is capable of doing.

This is a reason why I won't return to GW games.

    But... they aren't gated????

  2. Yup, I get why people who haven't received a book might feel miffed but it is better for the game that they do. Their book is a disaster zone. Obnoxious units/interactions and a huge swathe of poorly designed/useless units. It is bad for everyone.

Good news for all of you who are tired of the Gitz destroying the meta for the previous month's!

Not only are gitz mounted on squigs not GV and thereby being able to count as three or contest certain objectives, but they also seem to lack the possibility to fight in two ranks since as I understand it that is tied to being GV.

Seems like my squig army will collect some more dust for this Generals handbook year.

On the other hand three of your units get +1 dmg vs those big units. Plus there's less resilience to your monstrous rampages from your mangler...

Oh really? why the hell would they have printed non-changes then...

They include all points, but have REPEATEDLY said that there will be a digital points update on release (which will potentially include changes for newer books).

In future I suspect there will be no physical points at all (as will now be the case in 40k), but it was too late to change it this time.

Bounty Hunters is a super easy fix, just make it only work on stuff taken in the counts-as-3 bat. Then it admittedly does become a true game of battalion chicken, but that's ok because you have to opt into it to play it. If you want GV that aren't super vulnerable you can have that, if you want to go for broke with the counts-as-3 thing and chance it on whether someone picks the counter batallion, you can risk it for the biscuit. But you're not shut out of taking the whole infantry thing seriously because in fact for some bizarre reason veteran units are far squishier than non-veteran ones.

Maybe play a game with it before suggesting fixes?

They stand on objectives and die. It's all they really need to do, tbh, but it's all they're really capable of. At best they'll force an unleashed hell or strip a few wounds off of a character. If they were 3 attacks each or had their own buff character like the Gladiatrix, maybe they'd be good. They don't, so Heartrenders are better in 99% of situations.

That's what I am saying, there's still plenty of utility in the unit, it just pales in comparison to renders...

I wonder if Lifetakers might have a use yet. I keep looking at their warscroll and if you're using Morathi, they'll have 16 attacks in the buff range. +1 charge. Potentially 2+/2+ -1 1. 50% chance to dip out of combat before being attacked back. In Hagg Nar or Khalibron they might be good for striking lone heroes or small objective camping units.

Heartrenders are good because of the free move after shooting, but they're never going to kill anything. Lifetakers might have a chance in the right build. I do wish they were a little cheaper though, they're so susceptible to getting blasted by a simple D3 mortals or handful of shooting attacks. If Lifetakers were 70 points, I think you could get some interesting things going and not feel bad about it (the points-to-wound ratio wouldn't be so horrible).

What I will say is that the scroll itself isn't bad. It's just that for 5 points more you get heartrenders who are guaranteed the extra move. Taking a unit of them is absolutely fine; they'll still do plenty.

  8. The great thing about the book is that there are really good reasons for both choices.

The more I look at the book, the more I think they've done a phenomenal job with the internal balance. Units (except the foot slaughter queen and melee khinera) all have their reasons for use, as do the subfactions. Love it.

  9. Bonesplitterz are definitely better than people thought. That book is a classic example of people looking at what was lost rather than judging it on its own merits. It has a LOT of good things in its favour. Not to say people are wrong to dislike it, especially if they liked the style of the previous book.

  10. Good spot. the 3+ save is huge. Especially with both wyldwoods and the built in save boost (they will almost never want to pile in 3).

With such resilience it means we could well get 4-5 turns of shooting out of them.

Not to mention our best current list uses them.

    As the Krondspine got mentioned.

The timing isn’t excellent, but we have to ask outselves, what we do *against* it, as it blocks retreats, which are a staple of ours.

At least the Bladegheist faction should take a hard look at Awlrach. For that exact reason.

The one upside to having no monsters is that it can't level up!

New chosen are awesome! I like new demon prince miniature, but I don't love it...

There seem to be new warbands from warcry and new heroes. Also a new ogroid!

The lord on demonic mount finally has a miniature of the right proportion

Maybe the demon prince will be double kit with a named character?

It appears that the daemon prince is a double kit with a 'blade of teh first prince' character.
