  1. the only think I'm not quite fond of most 3d printed stuff is that they only share the 3D rendering art. If the item is popular enough on a place like myminifactory someone probably would have shared their printed mini, but still is quite rare, so you don't know how exactly how the mini will look.

Specially the 28-32mm minis that have insane details, that look great on a 3d print, but printed at home, not so much.

But the minis I bought from pro-printers really look amazing.

And to share some proxies... the Ogre Conquistador from Titanforge is pretty cool to use as a Maneater

Yikes, thanks for bringing this to our attention, there are a couple in there I'll want ti get. I'd hoped they wouldn't need to do this, as they're quite happy to just squat fantasy stuff they no longer want to make, so I thought everything in danger of being rotated was probably gone already. I guess not...

With LotR amd now 40k they always set a deadline for When the models will go, and honour orders up to that point even if it means casting a few more. Did they specify that in the email you got?

nope the email just had a short text (I've machine translated it since I got it in spanish):

"The impending range rotation means a few warbands from past seasons of Warhammer Underworlds are leaving stores. Get your favorites while you can."

Grey is standard for when they sell WHU warbands as AoS units through the webstore, so to speak. Without cards and whatnot. They did the same with some S2 warbands for Mortal Realms.

And cool, this should be an affordable way to get some more OOP WHU warbands, if I can rustle up some cards to print, as well as the old Beastgrave terrain. Also nice for oddball minis as painting projects: killaboss, gutrippas, goblapooza, maybe the megaboss… All the better that they’re pulling from several ranges.

EDIT: for those who are interested, Fauxhammer has a breakdown of the first few issues: https://www.fauxhammer.com/partworks-magazines/warhammer-stormbringer-new-aos-partworks-magazine-from-hachette/

    1. Killaboss w. Stab-grot; Knight-Arcanum
    2. 10 Gutrippas
    3. 5 Vindictors
    4. Paints x4

Seems the whole premium add-on thing is happening again, where you pay more per issue but get additional minis down the line. In this case it'll be the fancy sprues from Dominion: Yndrasta/annihilators and the Gnashtooth Killaboss/murknob/boltboys.

what seems interesting from the premium minis is that this time are add ons to the factions present in the main collection (stormcast, kharadron, Gitz and Warclans), other collections gave you a taste of other factions that were not present.

Anasta Malkorion comes with the rules of a vanilla vampire, but her base is 32mm, not 40mm.

Does that mean that I have to change it so I can play with her by the rules, right?

are vampire lords on 40mm? The old winged one came in a 40mm, but the base sizes .pdf states that vampire lords go on 32mm bases...

Might be a bit off topic, but how do people normally follow the preview events?

Live on the twitch stream? (PC, TV, mobile?)

Via the live blog, catch up later?

    via forums, social media?

I had already cleared my diary for this Saturday (due to an UFC event), so will be sticking it on the TV live with lunch.

If I don't have anything else to do at the time of the stream, I'll watch it live. If I have something else to do, but tons of hype, I'll probably be checking the website like a madman, but a lot of times I just forgot and then I check the website when I remember.

This time I think I'll watch the stream.

By the way... are we specting a new warcry edition like the killteam one, or just a replacement for the box set?

Yeah, the more about it I see the more encouraging it looks. I love those lantern airships!

I think that the old world logo on TW3 is related to a branding strategy unifiying all the stuff from the warhammer setting.

Being the same setting/brand sure its going to share some stuff, but not everything on TW is going to show on TOW and the other way around.

If they keep reprinting old warhammer books I'm sure at some point they'll start rebranding them as ToW instead of Warhammer Legends.

this is about videogames, but nevertheless an interesting read as it touches the same topics discussed here.

    1. You can make similarity claims in the US (the status in the UK and Europe is significantly shakier), e.g. "partially compatible with X or on the same scale as Y"

maybe GW should take an approach similar to D&D OGL licesing so people could make stuff (maybe not minis 😅) "compatible with everyones favourite miniatures game"

For sure GW are still a major entry point into the hobby, but I wonder if they are still the main entry point for new players. Especially with the popularity of video games like Total War, I don't know if going to a GW or independent store is the first point of contact with warhammer for a lot of people.

Maybe my perspective is skewed here, because I very rarely visit GW stores. I know that even 10 years ago, I looked at a bunch of info on the internet to decide if I should actually be making a trip to the closest large city that actually had a GW store to buy models. And I would guess that since then, the number of people who come to the hobby through online ressources first or even mostly interact with it online has only grown.

yeah! our point of view here depends totally on our own situation.

I'm sure videogames are being now one of the main things that attract people to warhammer. Not sure if kiosk collectables are working well on that regard or are just buying them people who want to get minis on a discount.

I live in quite a big city with 3 GW stores and a lot more independant ones, so my experience is going to be super different.

I used to live for a while in a small city and I got warhammer stuff on a general hobby store.

And from what I experienced, in small cities they need to be extra nice with customers as there are not that many (as always this is what I experienced and I'm sure it's going to be different in other places)

I can only speak for myself, but when I was talking about when I started, I was trying to put a bit of context that things are better than they used to be.  I don't actually think anybody in this thread has said that the removal of downloadable warscrolls is a good move either?

I don't think either this is a good move, but I also believe that this will impact the most "hobby knowledgeable" people (that already play AoS or that come from another game).

without numbers we can just guess from our biased point of view and its kind of hard to make some kind of prediction on how this is going to impact the arrival of new players.

From my experience, GW stores have a very well planned funnel to get into the hobby new players. Running path to glory campaigns, painting challenges, etc..

Independent stores have been kind of hit or miss. Some are really nice and others look that they're run by a group of friends and if you're new, probably won't get much attention.

The same goes for getting random games. GW stores tend to have a more chill, noob friendly environment, and in independent stores you can find anything, but probably the more crunchy players are going to be there.

As said before... I think this is going to affect people in the hobby that wants to try AoS more than totally new people, but I can just guess -_-

Purely anecdotal, but the free and continued availability of all (updated) rules for competing games (ASOIAF in particular) has been a huge draw for new players in my club. So, probably they are not going to check the rules before purchasing stuff, but when they hear that they 100% need a battletome or a subscription ( 😮 ) just to be able to USE the miniatures they are buying -IF warscrolls become paywalled, ofc- these beginners are going to think twice about committing to such a system. Unfortunately for me, since I am now one the very few remaining AoS players at my club

yeah, but you always have needed to have the army book to play warhammer since 4th edition. As has previously said in the thread, free warscrolls lets you have a peek to get an idea of how an army works or play some casual games with the random minis you own (since the core rules are still free)

but you always needed the army books with full rules to play competively or as intended.

we can discuss if rules (core and army/unit) should be free as a hook for getting newer players. But I think it doesn't make much difference using the random minis you own without the book but with full warscrolls thant without the book and the capped warscrolls that are currently in the mini boxes.

Sure! Although I have to immediately say that painting guides and lore videos by GW have moved behind WH+ - which isn't an issue...as long as there's alternatives by third parties. Again not an issue to /us/, the "hardcore hobbyist" but as per my original post I'm trying to look from the perspective of someone who's just starting the hobby - maybe they saw a GW store, liked a Warhammer videogame or a friend tries to get them in the hobby...you know, someone we all were at one time. Is your first stop going to be Duncan Rhodes and Wahapedia or Games Workshop itself?

And that leads to my point: Games Workshop isn't making this hobby accessible. Yes, /you/ might not need new miniatures. /I/ might not need new miniatures. /We/ might afford new miniatures we wanted to buy, and if we don't it, won't matter as we got enough greys to last a long, long time. I know it's heresy to question GW as this forum has close ties with our corporate overlord, but if I who start pushing 30 (oof owie) feel things are being too steep, how is little Billy going to afford this? I'm sure I'll be in this hobby in 10 years, even in 20 years - I've already been close to 20! And I know young!P.U.D would not have been able to afford this hobby as it is today.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm worried this all leads - as I mentioned earlier - to this hobby become "elite". Where only in time, the community is aging and distinctly from a particular age group and economic background (which increases the risk of the hobbyists being less diverse in general - but that's a bit too "political" take to say here).

but the main discussion here on hobby accessibility is missing the free warscrolls. And by reading this thread, the main concern is from people who like playing to a certain competitive degree and want to check the rules before deciding wich army to start or check rivals rules so they can tweak/grow their army.

In that case even having complete warscrolls in the boxes wouldn't matter. They want to know the rules before making the purchase, not after.

I don't think most beginners (old or young) are going to check all the rules before deciding the army. They are going to go to a gw or a local store and ask for advice, on lore, looks, playstyle...

the Knight Incantor isn't in the pack?? It's an Evocator Prime which is a unit leader... that announcement has me extremely confused. You can't do anything with the prime without 4 more bodies + can't get the Incantor anywhere but ebay or if you find one of the old starter boxes

the cheapest way to get a knight incantor was from 2nd ed magazine or Mortal Realms collection.

Currently you can get an Incantor from Stormsire Cursebreaker's box or build one from the evocator's box.

And like @sandlemad said, since the weapons are the same, you could run the prime as an incantor.

I thought that they were going to do a couple start collecting sets with both halves of the Soul Wars box, but taking of the lord arcanum seems weird...

That's technically also Europe, geographically speaking.

I've read that some boardgames website was contacted by hasbro announcing that heroquest was going to be translated into spanish and have standard brick & mortar shop distribution.

I assume that this also could mean translation to other european languages and distribution there

So I've just been looking at the new skeleton warscroll ... Am I missing something ? ... Because this looks like garbage to me

    https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/AoS_Warscrolls/Eng_Deathrattle_Skeletons.pdf

1" range spears .... And only Res models killed in THAT phase? ..... Hmmm ... Thoughts?

Edit ... FFS even bloody goblins get 2" range spears ... ****** this army! ... I'm going home! 🤣😜

lets hope that they streamline some stuff (like it seems with merging weapon stats) in 3.0 and spears auto attack on 2 ranks or something like that

In addition, the core rules state that if the number of wounds allocated to a model equals it's wounds characteristic than the model is slain. Since the number of wounds would be 3 and the wounds characteristic would now also be 3 it would be slain.

also with big monsters (zombie dragon) that change their stats, the output is calculated with wounds suffered, not wounds remaining.
