I do believe this but I've never really met anyone who is simply a collector? would love to see some numbers on players vs hobbyists vs collectors.

well where would you meet them? If they don't play the games they aren't as likely to be hanging out at stores or events. I'd say I fall mostly into this camp. I buy models I like but the only game I play these days is underworlds.

Feels like they split the release in half. We got most of the melee options already in that first box.

Next wave will be the range units and cannons.

also seems like there is likely a more religious slew of models to come too between possible flagellants, sisters, and whatever the cult of the wheel is.

  3. Bit off topic but I noticed GW didn't even directly share the painting videos for Seraphon thru Facebook. Guessing they don't want to post them anywhere where they can be called out for the fact that they no longer show the face of the painters.

  4. I preordered the Hollow King softcover awhile back on Amazon and it says it will be arriving April 25th. Perhaps that's some indication of roughly when the batlletomes are coming? That would line up with a pre-order announcement either next week or the week after.

I'm a little underwhelmed by the new Dante, but nice to another piece of the rumor puzzle fall into place. I know people are split on Valrak, but I put a lot of stock into what he's been saying about 10th. Interesting that he went out of his way to talk about Cities of Sigmar. I understand the concern that he could be mixing them up with Seraphon (he clearly doesn't care about the game). I don't necessarily think a launch box for Cities is completely out of the question. Leagues of Votann were announced on April 1st and came out around September. This could be a similar timeframe, though of course their army box was revealed much closer to release.

Maybe it's a Sisters of Battle type situation where the launch box comes out significantly earlier than the rest of the range. But I guess the most incongruous thing about such an announcement is that a lot of us are expecting a Seraphon army box as well. Announcing two army boxes of Age of Sigmar seems like a stretch.

Are we still expecting a Seraphon reveal next Monday? Or will it be saved for Adepticon?

I just went and listened to Valrak's LVO stream again during the Seraphon reveal and he claimed both them and Cities of Sigmar were getting new army boxes. Not sure what that's worth but interesting that this isn't a totally new claim...

  6. Do we really still think Nightmare Quest is going to have a Slaanesh warband? I can't see them releasing a Slaanesh tome so close to the warband without including the warband (and if it is going to have the warband I think they'd have spoiled it already so we don't learn about it first in the book this weekend).

On the topic of Seraphon, are there any rumors about the potential Kroxigor aesthetic? GW has done both a big-trex guy and also a gator krox for blood bowl. Any thoughts on the direction they may be taking them?

Pretty sure Whitefang described them as a new look from other representations and more dinosaur-y.

On a separate note, it seems to me that 1 of 2 things about Seraphon must be true. Either:

    1. The launch box contains a unit they haven't shown us yet, which is why they still haven't shown the launch box.

    2. Or there is no launch box.

The biggest problem for me was that I could not figure out which warbands and cards were still supported for the longest time. I hope they clean that up soon. I know there are now generic decks that any warband can use, but I hope they re-release the shadespire guys with new fighter cards, as well.

It's a difficult game to pitch right now:

Hey look, it's a miniature/card game hybrid by GW!

Oh, so you can army build like in Warhammer? -No.

But you can deck build like in magic, right? -Also no.

Well, at least you can play any warband against any other. -That is also not possible.

Right now, what you can do in Underworlds is pretty tightly constrained. It is truly best engaged with as a board game, where you buy something once and then it's complete. The avenue for expansion is not building up "your dudes", it is buying a different warband.

I suppose it is difficult to pitch if you're going to completely mispresent it.

    1. Yes you can deckbuild like magic. There are a variety of formats with different deckbuilding rules.

    2. Yes you can play any warband against any other warband.

    3. Every warband ever released (~50 now) is still valid to use and most all of them still see play. I went to a tournament recently where the winner was using Season 1 warband Magore's Fiends. In that same tournament a player was using the season 1 Stormcast.

Some rumor engines may be giving us clues (I have a doubt for the 3rd... maybe an SBGL hero ?) :

Maybe a necromancer for the 3rd picture? It would make a lot of sense if SBGL is getting the single hero treatment. It felt a bit missing from the range refresh to not get a new necromancer.

    Aye, couple new bits.

    • Grozziks Gouge (looks squigly)
    • Drake's Rest (Stormcast and/or Canadian rapper's newest venue)
    • Pillars of Jade (in The Wyrdlights, Jade Obelisk associated)
    • Metzlpota's Gaze (lizzies?)
    • The Sundered Scales (also lizzies?)
    • Askurgan Bone-monasteries (funny that Count Moltaire's Bloodhunt is confirmed to not be associated with the Bloodhunt box)

I'm starting to think Seraphon are 1 of the 4 warbands in the next underworlds season.

It would make some sense if some or all of the 4 warbands are from 3rd edition tomes that haven't been released yet.

I'm fully expecting that as we get these Rapid-fire AoS battletomes, we're going to see 5 foot heroes in a row... There are a handful of Rumor Engines that could point to those things, but...

Well, let's put it this way. The Gloomspite Gitz release is the first one that broke the mold of 'if you're not getting a huge release, then all you get is a hero!' So anything is possible.

We also know that the Warcry Khorne warband will eventually be sold separately for Blades of Khorne, and if we do get a Slaanesh warcry warband that'd be nice for them to help flesh out the mortal line a little further.

    Honestly?

I see Salamander and Razordon getting squatted.

Assuming no new skink, and considering the Raptadon's add in a new fast ranged unit, and ALSO considering 'Salamander' isn't really that much of an IP-protectable name... Yeah, if I had to take a guess, I'd say Salamander/Razordon isn't in the cards.

I wonder what @Whitefang thinks of my logic?

He probably thinks "dude I already hearted a comment saying we're getting Salamanders!" :P

I'd be super happy with this, but seeing the winged serpent iconography across the new models so far (mini winged snake on slann and the astrolith banner redesign) I feel like the "new eggs" they've mentioned will be cóatls.

Doesn't mean we'll get a model this go around. There were dragons all over the Lumineth book and banners, etc. but we didn't get any.

Yay Astrolith Bearer was one of my predictions so glad that's come true. That model looks so gorgeous

Wild that it's rules are unchanged.

Yeah no rules changes is a bit concerning. I was hoping it would finally match the lore and have some sort of AOE damage.

I don't think we're getting new Saurus guard. Gw always seem to leave at least one kit mysteriously unchanged like the graveyard for Soulblight.

I'm pretty surprised to see both Warcry and Kill team in the same week. GW really does seem to be firing the kits out this year. As far as I'm aware the only winter/February thing they've promised and not given a date for is the Underworlds warband. It looks like GW might be starting spring early.

I'm not sure I'd call it "mysteriously unchanged." Perhaps, more like GW is avoiding visual identity clutter. Saurus warriors and Saurus guard are potentially a bit too similar to take 2 coveted slots in a refresh. They could cannibalize sales of each other a bit and also tamp down interest by the "sameyness" of it all. Take the Grave guard example. While the new warband is fantastic, selling a new box of those next to the new skeletons could be a bit too similar for a release at the same time. Better candidate to perhaps revisit later.

(Don't be fooled by the article title, the coin is 40k but the mini is a mortal realm roaming elf)

Didn't they say all the models of the month would be on a single sprue in the future rather than having to hack up a box of minis? I wonder if this is the result of supply chain issues. Sure feels like the most random mini of the month so far.

  17. Just realized a couple things:

    1. Still no Cursed City news? Paperback is still showing an October 12th release on Amazon and I think most were assuming October would be the relaunch/1st expansion.

    2. As I was assembling the new witch hunters, I noticed the sculpted bases have broken pillars with the same design as the Cursed City Vyrkos bloodborne. I know they reuse digital design but seems probable that these were designed as an expansion at one point.
