This is nice list. I didn't consider taking thundrik, especially in two different contingents. Nice one.

Yea. I just thought that they are too good for the cost and fit very well inside the gunhaulers. Plus when combined with alchemists 3d6 /3+/4+/-2/1 (with towound rerolls) it could be very deadly.

Do you have any ideas for viable ME lists?

    I use this list

    Mainbody - 5 thunderers(fumigator+rifles), Thundrick, Navigator, Frigate

    Spearhead - Gunhauler(with 5man garrison), Alchemist(general with +1 tohit artefact), 4 thundrick guys

    Rearguard - Gunhauler(with mw on a charge)

If meeting engagement will ever be a thing KO will be 100% the god tier army of this playstyle at the moment by how skyvessels work.

It's true. I was on ME tournament last weekend we play in uglu with 12 inch and 18 inch range of shooting and I have 2 wins 1 draw and 1 loss. And ONLY because that was my first ME games.

I think you and @satyricalsophist have hit the nail on the head here- can you imagine an ironclad with 10 thunderers and a khemist on board, floating around with a -2 to hit bubble in combat (-3 to hit the units inside) that then counts as 22 models on an objective and can teleport?

GW designers should have this in mind at first place when they implementing such rules. That's why our book looks like it was written by 5 different persons... and only one of them actually play AoS.

Does he play Ironfist with one or two mawcrushers? Because that's the main theme I saw with the tournament lists on the Honest Wargamer.
And bringing it back to the need or lack of need for screening units I feel these are good examples you will want some. If you know what you're playing things could be different sure. But as a general tournament list I would def take 2x10 minimum.
But again what works for one doesn't necessarily work for others.

Yea. Exactly that) something around 24 + 2d6 charge first turn)

Good luck dealing with the rest of the army the next turn and the potential double. Not to mention getting lower drops.
Did a quick check but the Ironjawz lists that do well in the last few tournaments all feature Ironfist (extra movement) that house all the units + 2/3 heroes. So you need a 2 drop list to be sure and at three you likely need to win the roll off for deployment.
But if it works to you more power to you.

I know one IJ player with alot of models. Wanna try to play against him) probably will be painfull experience)

How Thunderers should be built? Fulmigator and then what? Planning to run 5 first, expand to 10 later.

    5 man - rifles + 1 fumigator(optional)

    10 man - rifles + 1 mortar + 2 cannons + 2 sweepers + 1 or 2 fumigators

    15 man - rifles + 1 mortar + 3 cannons + 3 sweepers + 3 fumigators

    20 man - rifles + 1-4 mortars + 4 cannons + 4 sweepers + 4 fumigators.

But you always can go full rifles if you have no plans to engage your enemy and want to harass your enemy from 18 inch range.

I make a clear example for you @cofaxest so you and many others understand the difference between constructive criticism and toxic negativity.

„Thunderers cant use their abilities from inside the ship.

I‘d suggest using them outside the boat then for maximum efficiency.

I dont like it though, as I prefer them being inside the ship“

    Constructive

It's not even criticism it's just constatation.

    11 minutes ago, Phasteon said:

"Thunderers have so crappy ruling, why the hell would you give them a rule that only works outside a ship when the army theme is using boats?? GW hates me“

You see the difference? Doesnt make you look very competent if you write things like that nonstop.

And this is not toxic at all. It's just a person who spend alot of money on his minis and not happy with ruling.

And both examples are perfectly fine for me.

For me toxic behavior is more like this:"Your opinion about X is irrelevant because I have different experience with X".

And constructive is: "I have different opinion about X because of my experience with it".

It’s great that our ships fly high and as such can set up in the corner. But what will you do against those crazy fast gore grunta’s? Or anything that has the same threat range as us?
Arkanauts are tough to fit in because all the toys cost so much. But I haven’t played a single army I didn’t have a use for 1 or 2 screening units.

Go first and kill it? But I will be very happy to have 200 more pts that I can spend on 20 screening arco.

All the people talking about how bad/disappointing this book is achieve nothing but creating a negative vibe about this amazing army. Thats why I and probably so many others are disagreeing so aggressively.

Just for clarification. Bad book doesn't mean weak faction.

  11. 1 hour ago, Phasteon said:

    a) Arkanauts for example are labelled ground troops in the background, so they are supposed to do boarding action/ leaving the ships to claim prospects

    b) It would be boring if we never actually saw those models we painted on the table because its the better choice to just leave them inside the ship.

You are right, but the main problem is that I still can't see my troops until ship is crashed. I play barak-urbaz with only one transport ship with big unit of thunderers and 2 heroes. Everything else are gunhaulers and skyriggers. So most of the time I can't use 40-50% of my rules.

Ofc if you really like sky squadron battalion/zilfin/admiral with command trait your formula will work, but don't you think that this is abit too restrictive?

    1 hour ago, Phasteon said:

Thats why I think that you dont care for immersion, just for powerlevel because you would be obviously perfectly fine with leaving your units inside the ship, otherwise we wouldnt have this conversation. And thats sad imo.

Of course they need to „balance“ the rules around their background - otherwise the army wouldnt be played as intended.

How is this connected. Even if my units can score when they inside I still would like to disembark them for more dmg. The main difference is that they more tanky inside and more deadly outsoutside.

Unit of 20 thunderers and 2 heroes inside huge ship sitting on the point and doing nothing to protect it. This is what breaks immersion for me.

And just because you dislike something doesnt mean that it is wrong/bad.

Pls stop pretending you know better.

Its my right to disagree with you.

It is bad FOR ME. It's bad from MY perspective. Nothing more and nothing less.

It's your right to disagree but noone give you right to tell me how I should think and feel.

And still I would like to see your opinion about question above.

Just tell me then. Why ship is scoring but it's crew is not? Why models inside building - scoring but when they inside ship - not? What kind of logic is this

  13. 2 minutes ago, Phasteon said:

But you have a battalion that allows Arkanauts to be deployed after the ships movement which is a very strong rule imo. (Probably thats what you meant by „normally“ so why not point that out as a strong point?)

The logic that a crew garrisoning a ship is not really holding an objective on the ground. They are „holding“ their ship.

You know that famous „a small step“ quote? Moon wasnt „claimed“ from inside the shuttle. The man had to get out to place a flag lol.

It‘s ok to disagree, but pls don‘t pretend your argument (balance) to be mine when its clearly not.

Just tell me then. Why ship is scoring but it's crew is not? Why models inside building - scoring but when they inside ship - not? What kind of logic is this?

You know, when you like something it doesn't mean that this is right. And pls stop pretending that you know better.

  14. 51 minutes ago, Phasteon said:

    Then disembark?

Edit: Its stupid to think that our GROUND TROOPS should be able to claim objectives from inside a FLYING ship, and I dont care for competitiveness in this regard (I‘m very competitive myself) instead I‘m glad GW put logic and background over „strong“ ruling

Normally you can't after you move the ship.

What logic?) Our ship is flying only when it's moving. Then it stays still it can flow not so hight above the point. So I can't see any reason (other then balance) that can stop models in garrison or ships crew from scoring.

  15. 2 minutes ago, Phasteon said:

You are all far too negative about the „garrison restrictions“.

You dont get punished or „anti synergies“ in ships, you get rewarded for leaving the ships so you actually see ypur beautifully painted skyfarers on the table and not just inside a boat

For me it's not about punishment or reward. It's just rule construction. You always must remember so many little nuances... And the only one thing that I can consider as BAD is that we can't score when our units are in the ship. So 1 ogor count as more models then fully loaded ironclad. (which is so stupid to be honest)

Having bad options is worse than having no options?

So you could have a heart attack and die or...... you could lose an arm or...... an eyeball.

Would you like to choose a bad option or would you like to not have options and you’re just freaking dead???

There is a TON of things to complain about in this book, going from 1 battleline option to 6 IS NOT ONE OF THEM.

    Nothing but bad options?

Thunderers are one of our best units and part of a great battalion , endrinriggers/ skywardens are one of our best units in the book and can be battleline in ANY BARAK and are part of 2 battalions

gunhaulers are one of our best unit and a freaking boat that provides a ton of utility on top of its profile AND can be taken in battalion

frigates are one of our main units and a boat that provides our utility and is part of a battalion. You can have a whole army of boats if you want 8 at 2k omg so restrictive!! (I guess you would need a general)

what units CANT be battleline???? Ironclad and characters. 1 unit in the entire book that CANT be battleline. So restrictive.

If you thought it was so much better when you COULD ONLY take arkos as battleline then just do that and quit crying about all the options that you now have that you don’t like ANY of. Try just a little!

i seriously can’t even comprehend that you’re saying our battleline options ARE MORE RESTRICTIVE now that you have 6 options instead of 1. Every single unit in the book besides 1 and characters can be battleline.

with all these new books having their own allegiance abilities each with their own restrictions, list building is all about choices. You don’t get it all. If you think it’s awesome gunhaulers can be battleline, that’s a choice you have to run with.

Everybody has units that are battleline with a certain general, or unlock certain battleines in certain allegiances.

Everybody has to make tough decisions.

if everyone is writing the same lists pls post a cpl so I can show you 3-5 TOTALLY different lists that are trying to do different things.

Dont you you dare use anything as battleline besides arkos because nobody likes choices and you’re so restricted by having 6 options.

Youd rather just have 1 so let’s see it.

I'm happy with alot of things that is in the book, but you must admit that almost every our option have some restrictions.

You can take Skyriggers as bl but with 220pt hero

You can take thunderers as bt but only in barak-nar

You can take frigates as bt but only in barak-zilfin

You can take gunhaulers as bt but only in barak-urbaz

You can have +1 tohit for thunderers but only outside of the ship

You can have +1 attack for thunderers but only outside of the ship

You can give -1 tohit for fumigator but only outside of the ship

Alchemist can buff your troops but only outside of the ship

Admiral command abilities useful only then he is in the ship

You can use garrison rule but can't score when using it

And I even not including aethergold and skyports restrictions

I was lucky that my fav skyport (urbaz) let me take my fav ship (gunhaulers) as battleline in my fav battalion (escort wing) But I can imagine how frustrating it could be for someone who was not so lucky

Plus another problem is that we have too many deploy choices right now.

Is no one else surprised that they have entirely squatted tyrion now. I knew it was coming but it does seem odd we just have to forget he ever existed. Especially as teclis is still clearly a magic guy. Tyrion was a good representation of martial elves. Completely getting rid of him just seems weird.

It will be cool (and very strange) if Tyrion will lead Idoneth in the end to make peace between two "hight" aelves nations) If I'm remember correctly Tyrion saves them from Teclis.

My battletome hasn't arrived yet, so I'm unclear.  Can Marines start the game deployed in the Frigates and Ironclads, or do they have to enter in the first movement phase?

Also, the marines can enter the transport and THEN you move the transport, right?  They just couldn't leave that same phase.

Yes, you can. But probably each unit you put inside your ship will be separate deploy.

Thought it was going to be all bad ;)

joking of course. But congrats on the games. Against pretty cheesy lists good results.

    how did the gunhaulers fare?

Maybe my gunhaulers was broken but with drill I deal 5-6 wounds each round. 3 mw on 5+ tohit and rend -3 is very dangerous.
