You can't if you want to use them in matched play unless they change the official base size.

Wrong! Re-read the Designers Commentary again, specifically the lines about "suggested" base sizes, and what to do if it's on a different size.

So, you can mount your spiders on say, a 60mm round base for aesthetics, but make sure there's a 60 x 35mm marking on the base to help measure from

  2. So new WD has landed. Nothing extra to report but it did give me an army theme idea.

Aqushy Goblins - A tribe that lives in the Realm of Fire to collect rare fungi and lichen that grow in the fire scorched realm. Better equiped and smaller in numbers due to the dangerous conditions and rich rewards on offer, they tend to wear red / orange robes, often badly skorched and their skin is naturally darker to better stand the heat (thinking Dark Angels green)

Squigs will tend to be brighter yellows, or maybe some striking purples to better contrast with the red robed riders

What do people think? Nifty concept??

    Some early morning musings

Can anyone hazard a guess why the loonsmasha fanatics kit comes with 5 grots and a 6th “dead” grot? Looking at the photo of the unit there’s a 6th based grot that seems to be dead, or possibly passed out in his own vomit.

could the unit have some sort of lasting effect that needs a token to mark their position on the board, even after the unit is destroyed? Otherwise why base a dead  grot by itself? At first I thought it was supposed to be a comic relief piece where the grot fanatic crushed himself, but that would mean the kit has 6 fanatics, not 5, and the article explicitly states you can make 5 from the kit.

I got a job lot off eBay about June time. Still got a bunch to paint but it's got things like the forgeworld squig boss, a colossal squig and a none gw rogue idol I've been gwing that will be PERFECT to go with the army.

He attached the bad moon banners and snotling but the rest is me.

Hoping with enough gw extras it will be accepted at tournaments including warhammer world.

Got the same model for my Rogue Idol, it's a bit short and definitely won't get accepted at Warhammer World as it's from another company, no matter how many bits you stick on it

  5. Previews are all looking good, and it's good that they've combined the various Grot and Troggoth factions together, even if it does mean saying bye to the Doomdiver and Wolf chariots.

The overal army vibe is very strong, a bunch of lunatics who are in it for the hell of it.

Definitely gotta buy a Skarsnik model now, and look to kitbash it with the newer models for a unique vibe

  6. Currently I think 2019 is a predominately 40k year, with Vigilus shaping up, plus Blackstone Fortress proving popular, AoS will get 3 to 4 armies.

Popular choices include Grots, Slaanesh, some new aelf choice (my money's on flying aelves or shadow based teleporting aelves), Ogors are possible, but they'll need to have a seriously good theme in mind, Ricky's Suneaters might give them some ideas for fire-based Ogor tribes as a counter-point to the BeastClaw Riders.

Outside army concepts are Freepeople (they have some ideas there thanks to Nick Horth's work via Callis and Toll series), Dispossesed etc.

Skaven are likely heading to a Beasts of Chaos style release with few new miniatures and a way to link together the clans.

The problem is though is that there are no Battalions (currently) with 2 Allegiances.

Currently the Warcrolls section says "this section includes Beasts of Chaos warscrolls, warscroll battalions, endless spells, and scenery warscrolls."

RAW, all battalions are Beasts of Chaos only.

If the Battalion said "This Battalion is both Beasts of Chaos and [God Allegiance]" then there would be a lot less confusion. But the only phrase is "Units from this battalion gain the [God Allegiance] Keyword.

By no means am I saying they're not suppose to be used with God Allegiances. I am in the RAI camp, but we're all super nervous after Everchosen, Nigthhaunt, ahh heck even Clan Pestilens.

Right, found the quoted FAQ in the Designer's Commentary.

It's specifically saying that Allies don't count as Allies if the Batallion is the same allegiance

However, here's the thing, as the models in the Batallion have the correct keyword, they're not allies, so that FAQ part doesn't apply

At best, rules as written, you can argue that the Batallion cost comes from your allies allowance, but the units in it? Well they've got the correct Keyword.

There may be a tiny grey area over the Allies matrix being out of date, but frankly, arguing that Brayherd != Beasts of Chaos because the faction got a rename is douchebaggery of the highest order.

  8. 14 hours ago, Duke of Gisoreux said:

That's completely wrong. The Beasts of Chaos units don't have the KHORNE keyword on their warscroll and don't have the option to choose it. The Slaves to Darkness units have that option on their warscroll. The battalion that gives the KHORNE keyword to Beasts of Chaos units doesn't have the Khorne allegiance itself, but has the Beasts of Chaos allegiance instead. As Beasts of Chaos are currently no valid option als allies for Blades of Khorne your are not allowed at all to include the battalion in a Blades of Khorne army, not even as allies. Currently the battalion is only allowed in Beasts of Chaos, Everchosen (as allies) and Grand Alliance Chaos armies at the moment unless there will be a FAQ that says otherwise. All units in a battalion count as having the allegiance the battailion has regardless which keywords they have themselves.

See, I've seen the arguement, that they have the alleigance of the batallion but there's nothing saying you get only one alleigance on a unit.

Tzaangor get Tzeentch and Beasts of Chaos as an example

Also, unless I'm really blind, the quoted FAQ is no longer present? At least not in the AoS app FAQ document?

No benefit? The batt is competitively priced for what it gives.

Once the FAQ lets BoK take the Battalion then we can have some fun!

Bloodsecrator works on all Khorne, so extra attacks, no battleshock, and relic banners (I’ll Taketo’s banner of rage to make the re-roll 1s to hit into re-roll all within 8”).

Bloodstoker works on all Khorne so +3 to run and charge, and re-roll 1s to wound.

Slaughterpriest prayers work on all Khorne too, so you can have +1 to saves, +1 to hit or D3 wounds healed for example.

    Lots of options! :D

    ...gotta get that FAQ though.

No FAQ needed, it has the KHORNE keyword, that's all you need to join a Blades of Khorne army. Same as Maggotkin of Nurgle is just the NURGLE keyword or Disciples of Tzeentch is just the TZEENTCH keyword.

That's why you can include things like Slaves to Darkness models in the army directly

SUPPOSEDLY there is some sort of "rule breaker" text that allows the God Battalions to not count towards allies.

Said text doesn't seem to actually be in the book, so it could be in a FAQ/Errata. Kind of like what happened to Space Wolves, but Space Wolves they flat out said they goofed up. They haven't been as official on this on the Warhammer Community site, we've been using the facebook page/stream content.

Yes, they don't count as Allies as they had the God keyword. So your allegiance is Blades of Khorne and therefore you can include a Brass Despoilers formation as all the models gain the KHORNE keyword.

Means you don't get a Herdstone, the choice of a Great Frey, any ambush abilities etc.

However the members of the Brass Despoilers get any allegiance abilities of Blades of Khorne

kill-slay for us and you might not get eaten-gnawed to death.

    Yes-Yes

That'd be cool if added as a fifth Mark of Chaos, the Horned Rat

I think as long as it's a decently looking chariot with a Bestigor and Gor crew, anything goes!

Personally I'm using some Gorebeast Chariots for mine, partially because I've been able to get some cheaply, partially because the Gorebeast is an amazing model and partially because my "theme" is a Knightly Order of Nurgle pledged Beastmen

I'm trying to think about what could work while waiting for the book to drop.
But, do you think that Dragon Ogors are best used at MSU, just like Bullgors ?

I'd like a Thunderscorn heavy list as I love the models, and now they seem to be viable again !

No, units of 6 to make them easier to buff with your Shoggoth.

With a cunning mix of Saraus warrior and maurauder you could also build some Bestigor or Gors which are lizard legs and human torsos to fit into the army theme

  14. So, building an Order of the Flies themed army, mixing in Chaos Warrior, Knights and Chariot models to keep the feel of a bestial knightly order (as Gors/Bestigors, Centigors and Razigor Charriots)

How could I convert some of the larger models into the army?

    No problem. Happy to help

I’ll echo this. When I look for new members for my IT team, I’m looking more so for somebody who has that drive to fix things. You can teach and shape the skill set but it’s having that drive and desire to do it. It’s a spark that some people have and if you can nurture it, you get somebody amazing.

Third this! It's why I gave up spending too much time looking at CV's when hiring, and instead went straight to phone and f2f interviews.

  16. I think a yearly funding drive to try and build up enough to cover a year's costs would be a good idea. There's plenty of approaches to handle that, and you can also open up "fund a feature" point when it becomes relevant.

As for adverts, personally I'd include them, and offer a £1 to 2 a month subscription to remove them. Particularly if they sit as a row in the middle of forum posts for non subscribers
