How did you not lose entire units to Ogors? 😲

For me they always feel like one of the toughest matchups for Nighthaunt, even before Tzeentch and Petrifexiarch Elitereapers. They bring way too many wounds to the table for a faction that hits so hard. Without a few Wave of Terrors, they retaliate as if I had done nothing before.

He didnt have any ironguts yet. And combining Mounrgul -1 to hit alongside Grief-Stricken -1 to hit really keeps them in check.

I did lose the chainrasp horde of 20 on bottom 3. But there was no reason to bring em back since they'd be out of range to do anything.

Are you aware of the Legion of Grief thread? @SleeperAgent

I am. I just usually post in here because Nighthaunt is what I normally run. This time it was because basically no LoG stuff was actually used. I dont know how you guys and your opponents play but I rarely seem to lose an entire unit so Endless Legions didn't do anything for me.

  3. Won another game tonight. It was Legion of Grief but I never got to use any abilities. None of my entire units died so I couldn't bring em back. So essentially I played Nighthaunt without any command traits, allegiance abilities, or artifacts. Against Ogor Mawtribes foot boys (not BCR) at 1500 points. Wanted to use Horrorghast but it just wouldn't fit.

    Allegiance: Legion of Grief
    Mortal Realm: Ghur
Lady Olynder, Mortarch of Grief (200)
    - General
    - Spell: Dread Withering
    Spirit Torment (120)
    - Artefact: Gryph-feather Charm
Knight of Shrouds on Ethereal Steed (120)
    20 x Chainrasp Horde (160)
    10 x Chainrasp Horde (80)
    12 x Myrmourn Banshees (210)
    Mourngul (280)
    Mourngul (280)
    Prismatic Palisade (30)
    Suffocating Gravetide (20)

    Total: 1500 / 1500
    Extra Command Points: 0
    Allies: 0 / 200
    Wounds: 80

The only thing LoG I did was gravesite 2 Banshees back and cast Dread Withering once. Grief Stricken was the mvp. I usually cannot cast spells for any amount of dice rolling, but I got it off every single turn and it was not unbound. Stacking that and a Mourngul aura is brutal.

Two new campaigns for AoS, guide for writing narrative campaigns ( with pdf map on WH community site!) and some new rules for Warcry.

Oh, and for 40k lovers - Jokaero in Blackstone Fortress! I think that's a bit unfair for enemies, how could they defeat a monkey that can make a minaiture  lascannon out of trash?

I really hope they collect all these realms of battle rules into one large book some day.

In theory it seems like a big block of 40 Chainrasps is actually fairly durable. 5+ ethereal and a 6+ ignore wounds should survive a single round, then give you a chance to run spectral lures and healing back. I know Nighthaunt are MSU but a single big block seems to make sense to me. Thoughts?

That's your anvil, and it'll do a fine job. You don't want minimum sized unit rasps because a wave of terror with them is pretty poor.  Run 20-40 and surround your important heroes like GoS and Spirit Torment.

it looks like magic/blood/whatever is being drawn from the chalice itself, which places it within the realm of Slaanesh or DOK I think. If DOK will get an updated book, maybe this is finally a hero separate from the shrine box??

I like the idea of surprise 2.0 books. DOK, Nurgle, Nighthaunt/LoG, and Stormcast plz.

Why? Why would you want something you enjoy to fail?

I don't want it to fail. I want the people in charge of pricing to realize they are pricing themselves out of reality and lower it. Example, MTG came out with a lot of sets that had a 9.99 price tag per booster pack (regular boosters are 3.99), a large number of these did not sell well, they have since curtailed the practice.

The big problem with GW's pricing is they have no real competition. If someone else were to come out with a fun, competitive, well written game then maybe GW would see them as actual competition and lower their prices. I didn't say I want GW to go under, just that the bubble needs to burst. It happens in other sectors (real estate especially) and it can happen to them. If they open up their new factory and prices go down I'll be ecstatic. But if they go up we will all know that its just a gouging tactic.

The terrain piece is expensive but the start collecting gives a decent discount, almost 40%.

Oh I know the SC is good value, they usually are. But now with terrain and endless spells GW is just inflating the things you need to play armies or accept being less competitive. Its getting very tiresome as they already have the most expensive tabletop game prices.

Is Legion of Grief still considered the superior option vs Nighthaunt? The battalions from the Emerald Host seem to have given the faction a boost overall right? I’ve been seeing some better tournament results posted lately at any rate.

The armies are played very differently. With a lot of NH you want minimum sized units to fish for wave of terror.  Whereas LoG wants larger units to just bring them back for one command point when they get wiped. I've played it both ways and NH seems like a more fun, "different" army all about speed and teleporting. Whereas LoG seems just like Legions of Nagash with different units.  I do hope they make a new narrative book for Death and clean up the NH/LoG rules. NH needs better abilities and LoG is awful for Olynder because she misses out on the great command abilities so she is rarely taken.

Sorry to burst your bubble but this is a Core Rules thing for Named Characters:

Sorry to counter burst your bubble, but a command TRAIT and a command ABILITY are two very different things. And Spectral Summons is an army wide command ABILITY.

  11. I know they FAQ'd it the other way, but what does everyone think about Infernal Enrapturess going back to the broken way and each one generating depravity equal to the number of Enrapturess' you bring? Assuming you lose none before your hero phase you can generate 36 depravity with 6 Enrapturess, which means at the earliest you could summon a Keeper at the end of your second hero phase. It also means you can't have any other heros in your army and lose all other hero options until later.  It cannot be modified by the Syll'Esskan host.

If your general isn't a named character, spectral summons allows you to teleport units not in combat as long as your general isn't either.

Where does it say a named character can't use it? I've never heard this before.

I don't think that's completely necessary. Some units need a rewrite (hello Glaives!), but I think taking our allegiance abilities and then stacking that with sub faction abilities could do the trick. Imagine if we could choose from any of the following sub faction abilities:

3D6 charges where you get choose one die to discard. Still would allow Wave of Terror.

An additional -2 bravery on the charge.

Frightful touch army wide, then 5+ for units that already get it.

+1 to casting rolls, unbinds, dispels, and a 5+ shrug of spell effects.

A sub faction that had summoning.

Any of those with our current rules would make for really strong or fun builds.

This. Give Chainrasps mortals on 6 or go down to 4+ save. Spirit Hosts should go to double mortal wounds on 6's if we are gonna start comparing to other armies (COUGHfyreslayers 2 mw's on 6 and keep attackingCOUGH).

As HeyWoah says, we're currently "racing to the bottom" by trying to fix everything with point drops and that just isn't gonna cut it. A lot of things need to be changed. Give Black Coach it's own 5+ shrug aura. Give our heroes a few more wounds each. Let us deal mortal wounds like all the other armies that copied our homework and did it WAY BETTER.

3d6 charges and wave of terror sounds amazing though.

Way more bravery debuffs are needed to make stuff like Tomb Banshees worth it.

Casting bonuses would be huge for me. Because no matter what I do I can AT BEST get Spectral Lure off once a game, even with the Wychlight Lantern. Either give better buffs, or let every Guardian of Souls cast it like Skaven with Warp Lightning.

It'll be another Wrath of the Everchosen style book but with a Death focus, so new allegiances for all Death factions. There will be one for Order and another for Destruction. No idea on the Order, but I'd expect a big Chaos invasion to Shyish after Death's invasion of the Eightpoints, so Death would seem likely to be up next.

This would be fine if Nighthaunt actually got a whole new set of abilities. With the way the narrative is it seems like OBR will get even more goodies and NH will get to ally into OBR.

*takes 6 Tomb Banshees and deepstrikes them all to deal 12d6 mortal wounds for an average of 42 mw in the shooting phase*

That would only kill 2/3rds of a full Grot-unit. I am 100% on board with this idea 😁

Considering what Tzeentch can do with flamers this is a viable option seeing as they can do something like 27d3 with rend 1. And their flamers can be battleline.

I hope for new tomes right around the GHB. It'll have been 2 years for NH and SC. And both of them are woefully underpowered. But more than likely we'll go to ghb allegiance rules. If that happens hopefully the consolidate all the Legion of Grief stuff into NH and give each of them a slight bump.
